Today I want to show you my latest experiment—hehe, yes, that's right. You see, whenever I get the chance, I like to experiment with coffee and the different ways to drink it. Obviously, I don't use the most sophisticated barista methods; it’s just me explaining what I do from time to time with the ingredients I have on hand. So, I should start by telling you that I call this delicious concoction "Cafélate" (because it’s a blend of chocolate and coffee). Of course, this already exists and is called a "mocha" (or *mocaccino*), but as I said, I’m not following conventional or sophisticated methods, nor am I sticking to a specific recipe.
I started by preparing the coffee the traditional way: I brought water to a boil, added the coffee, gave it a quick stir with a spoon, and turned off the heat; personally, I like to put a lid on it and let the coffee steep for a good while to intensify the flavor.
Then, I strained it the traditional way using a cloth strainer; during this process, you can catch the delicious aroma—I feel it comes through more intensely this way.
For what I wanted to make, I experimented with this brand of Colombian chocolate, which is enriched with sweet spices like cloves and cinnamon. Generally, Colombian chocolate is fattier than Venezuelan chocolate and has a very different texture, but I like it nonetheless.
Since I only wanted to make a couple of cups of coffee, I boiled a separate cup of water and melted half a bar of chocolate in it; I didn't want to overpower the coffee's flavor, but rather give it a chocolatey touch.
Once the chocolate had melted, I added a tablespoon of powdered milk and whisked it by hand; it is important to whisk vigorously to avoid lumps, though it doesn't matter if a few remain, since we will be putting the mixture into the blender later.
Next, I added the milk and chocolate mixture to the coffee in the blender to incorporate air and make the mixture frothy. In my case, I waited for everything to cool down before proceeding with the blending step. Look how delicious this mixture looks.
The result is delicious—perfect for a wonderful rainy day in the warmth of home.
Thank you for letting me share my crazy and delicious experiment with you; I hope you enjoyed it. See you next time, God willing.
