At certain moments in our lives, it may be necessary to remain silent.
Hello friends from Empowertalent, I hope you are all doing very well and that you have a great weekend. I was reading the initiative, and our fellow member @purrix's post really caught my attention. It’s incredible how we can come to think that because we are full of good vibes and intentions, others must feel or think the same way we do. But that’s not how life works, and it’s through hard lessons that we begin to understand that not everything should be said, and that not everyone will be happy to see your progress or even just to see a smile on your face.
Since I tend to be so talkative when I feel comfortable, I can somehow end up sharing personal things that perhaps I shouldn't say. For example, projects or goals I want to achieve—things that should bring joy to me and to those around me. However, not everyone who shares your blood or who has been a long-time friend will feel good about seeing you constantly grow. It happened to me within my own family and also with people I considered sincere friends, who simply didn't feel the same excitement for my achievements.
When I decided to go back to university, I thought I wouldn't get the chance; I even believed that everything was over for me in that regard. I dreamed of studying the major I am in now—so strongly that I didn't want to be doing anything other than this, which is my passion. But it took me a long time to get the opportunity and the right conditions to start studying. And when I was given the small chance to apply to see if I made it into the university, practically only my siblings and my parents knew about it.
In a way, I felt that if I got too excited or if I kept telling other people about it, things would end up going wrong. I decided that I would only talk about it once it was a done deal, and I was enrolled and ready to start. I didn't do this out of fear of criticism or judgment, but out of fear that if I told people in advance, the opportunity wouldn't materialize for me. I know that not everyone is happy with my happiness, and even though I don't understand envy because I don't feel that way toward the people around me—not even toward those I call "acquaintances"—I think it does exist.
To start maturing, it took me a long time to understand how someone could envy what you have, and even what you don't have. It's like thinking that a person who has everything couldn't possibly care about what someone else has, yet it still happens that they desire what another person possesses, even if it seems insignificant or trivial. It's incredible, but it happens. It's hard for me to comprehend this, but we are in the real world and people have feelings that we may never come to understand, and that's okay as long as it doesn't harm us.
I like seeing others grow, overcome their obstacles, and conquer their fears. To me, it feels strange to be in a mindset of envying someone or wishing them harm. Why would I waste valuable time on something so unimportant, like wanting to be someone else? It's odd, but as you grow up, you realize that not everyone is a friend, a good family member, or a good companion. But anyway, life goes on, and we shouldn't get bogged down in trying to understand why others act the way they do. We need to focus on ourselves and on what we need to become better people and feel good about our own lives.
