The armor of the "I can handle everything"

Hello Empowertalent friends, I hope you are all doing very well. Here in my country, the weather has been very changeable, and that forced me to take a pause today because I have the flu. It is very rare for me to get sick—it almost never happens to me—but when I do feel unwell, it hits me very hard. Today is one of those days when my body asked me to rest after days of effort and of always carrying the armor of the "I can handle everything." And that is what this week's topic is about: talking about the armors that we often carry out of obligation or by our own choice, perhaps consciously or unconsciously.
Armor serves us for a certain period, to seem strong and to face whatever each day has in store for us. But a moment comes when the body screams what the mouth is unable to put into words, and that is one of the hardest things a human being can go through. I have always thought that illnesses are the result of prolonged stress or poorly managed emotion that tries to come out and does so in the worst ways, such as illnesses that can be quite serious and even cost us our lives.
Today I don't feel well; I feel like the weather affected me quite a bit after yesterday's rain, and even though I had an umbrella, I still ended up getting wet. I thought the discomfort would pass quickly because I don't catch the flu very often, but yesterday I really felt that I gave my all regarding my class activities and my personal ones, which I have been focusing on so as not to miss the opportunity to concentrate on my studies. But not everything goes as planned, and my body told me "that's enough," even though it was hard for me to make the decision to miss class because of the general malaise I feel.

The idea of taking a day off because I feel sick didn't sit well with me; I don't like missing class or letting days go by without attending. It is important to always be present and fulfill our obligations, but seeing the initiative reminded me that I have been wearing the armor of the "I can handle everything" for a long time. It is not something I am proud of; rather, it makes me feel a bit bad because I know my body gives all it can so that I can have a reasonably normal life, but it is complicated to deal with the desire to be better and at the same time recognize that you must take a break when necessary.
Many of us probably use this armor. Deep down, the fear of being insufficient or not being able to accomplish all the things we want to do might make us feel like we have let down our ideal of being the most efficient. In psychology, there is the term "Burnout"—perhaps that is what happened to me after several months of having more activities to do than before. I am not making excuses, but it is a huge effort that my body, and especially my legs, make to be able to walk, move around, and climb stairs every day without rest. I have to acknowledge that I have truly been responsible and have given more than I have to do the things I need to accomplish.
The takeaway for me is that the body is wise; we cannot deny or ignore it for a long time, especially the symptoms of fatigue and lack of self-care in order to be active every day. I don't like stopping, I am not proud of doing it, nor do I like making excuses or trying to use my leg condition to express that I feel tired. But it is the reality; I truly feel exhausted—more than I have expressed—yet I still hope to wake up tomorrow with a better mood and health to continue fulfilling my activities. I am reminding myself that it is necessary to take real breaks so that the body can recover and not be pushed to the limit, ending up in a state of weariness and exhaustion that can bring serious consequences to my health.
