Becoming Aware and Living One Second at a Time.

Hello, Holos & Lotus friends! I wish you all a happy weekend. Recently, I’ve been reflecting on the things I have to do every day. And I’ve realized that sometimes I’m on autopilot; I live through experiences, but afterward, I somehow feel like it was a bit like a movie that just passed by, without me even realizing all the effort I put into doing each of my activities. This is what it means to live automatically and not be truly conscious of my present.

A lot of this has to do with living with a bit of anxiety; sometimes I want to do everything in a single day, leaving nothing pending so I can have rest time. When I notice that I’m rushing too much, I feel that I must stop, because it’s not healthy to live this way. It’s something that initially makes me feel like a productive person, but at the same time, it’s a trick to avoid feeling like I’m wasting time or letting opportunities pass me by.

Mental health specialists often state with certainty that it is necessary to carry out each activity mindfully and in a way that allows us to fully enjoy what we are doing. When you live out of anxiety, everything seems to need to be done immediately, and for me, this has been a challenge because I know I must give myself space so I don't overthink as much or push myself in an unhealthy way. I have to find a balance between fulfilling my responsibilities and being gentle with myself.

Sometimes we think we are doing things mindfully, but even doing what is normal, like brushing your teeth or taking a shower, can turn into a habit that we do in a hurry. I believe everything has its time, and knowing how to plan is also part of not feeling like we are neglecting important things, while also not forgetting to care for ourselves and the things we need to do. Saying it is simple enough, but putting it into practice can be a bit challenging.

At times, I become aware of how fast I’m doing something, and I try to process what I’m doing more slowly, without pressuring or rushing myself. That makes me feel more connected to the present, to my body, and to the way I am treating it. It’s a process, and like everything, it takes time. I know I need to improve this and also add other habits that allow me to feel good without having to strive to do things perfectly or routinely.

Living one second at a time is something I am putting into practice, because I really gain nothing by rushing; it only generates more stress. I am becoming aware that my body also deserves moments of tranquility, quietness, and slowing down to feel better. Life isn’t going to end because I don’t do something faster; we just have to find a way to be more present in everything we do and live in a way that allows us to enjoy every moment we are moving and engaging in an activity.

Dear Mamita, that really resonated with me—how we do so many things on autopilot that, in the end, it feels like the day just slipped by. Sometimes we confuse productivity with rushing around, and we don’t realize how much we’re pushing ourselves. Living one second at a time seems simple, but it really takes practice. As always, I really loved your reflection.
