Yesterday at 10:24am (CEST) summer officially started and it was a really hot day! Today is the same and according to the weather forecast it will between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius this entire week. Only in the evening it was nice to go to the garden to check it out since it was Sunday which means day off from any work!
I was mainly checking out fruit trees and this pear is so abundant this year! Maybe there's even too much fruit on this one tree and I'm not entirely sure how good or bad this can be. But I hope pears will reach full ripeness because I know how much my mom loves them! I'll definitely have to reach out for them more as they tend to be really juicy and sweet.
In the past couple of posts I've been sharing photos and updates about nectarines and I already mentioned how much I love this fruit! Since I'm used to share my parents' garden, I haven't even shared what I have in my yard now that I'm married - I'll have to remember to take photos and show you all the interesting stuff we are growing such as nectarines and peaches.
I've noticed a few plums turning purple and it reminded me to keep an eye on them since I am very specific when it comes to eating plums. I only eat them when when are 50-75% ripe and I don't like them when they are soft. I'm not sure why but it almost gives me an ick so I go around and squeeze plums until I find ones that are still hard but not totally green. I don't know if this makes any sense or if anyone else doesn't like fruits that are too soft and squishy, let me know in the comments.
First ripe cherry tomato this season! Yay! I am a big fan of cherry tomatoes, they taste amazing and they don't need any preparation - I just wash them and sprinkle some dry herbs on top and my "salad" is done. It's also easy to combine them with many different foods since they go along with pretty much anything. I cannot wait to harvest them!
Here's two rows of carrots, one row of parsley and in the top left corner you can see some beetroot and chard. This year carrots and parsley are doing really well, maybe it's the new spot that fits them as they haven't been planted here before.
Finally here's a pretty sunset pic even though it didn't pick up the colors that well. Looking from our garden there's only land for planting so nothing block the sunset view. I have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets from this spot and I hope I'll capture better photos to share with you in future posts.
