Travel Journal: Zylinderhaus (Automobile Museum) & Trier (Germany)

After leaving Lieser, we continued our journey to Trier. Before heading into the city, however, we wanted to spend the morning at the Zylinderhaus, an automobile museum featuring a private collection of cars as well as plenty of nostalgia from days gone by.

It’s hard to believe, but the entire museum is based on the private collection of entrepreneur Bernd Benninghoven. He founded the classic car and nostalgia museum in 2017 and continues to run it through the company behind the museum.

My girlfriend and I were really impressed by the incredible variety of the exhibition and the attention to detail throughout the museum! Here are lots of impressions from our visit:

After that, we continued on to Trier. We spent the rest of the day walking around the city and taking in plenty of sights and impressions:

We also had dinner in Trier. After enjoying more upscale cuisine over the previous few days, we were craving a good burger, so we went to Burger Amt. The burgers were delicious, and the restaurant had a really cool atmosphere.

Of course, we needed something sweet after our burgers, so we stopped at the Turkish bakery next door and got some sütlaç, a delicious Turkish rice pudding.

Finally, we headed to Hotel Kloster Pfalzel, located just outside Trier. Unfortunately, our room wasn’t air-conditioned, but overall it was really charming and cozy. The breakfast was particularly excellent!

In the next post, we’ll continue on to Edesheim. This is where we left the Moselle behind and headed towards the Rhine, exploring another wine-growing region along the German Wine Route.

Stay tuned!
