Good evening, blog friends—how are you? Today I’m taking you on another journey with me; we’re heading out into the countryside again. This time, we’re venturing a bit further afield toward Fucecchio, in the province of Florence—or rather, right on the border between Pistoia and Florence. Fucecchio is a large municipality surrounded by the famous Padule di Fucecchio (marshlands) and vast rural areas. Today, we’re exploring the borderlands between Pistoia and Florence by visiting two localities: Cerbaia and Poggioni. Cerbaia takes its name from the low hills surrounding the area—the Colline Cerbaie. I haven’t visited them yet, but they are said to be incredibly rich in unique flora and fauna, including some rare plant and animal species; I’ll have to visit those hills sooner or later. In any case, both Cerbaia and Poggioni are rural areas set amidst sprawling countryside; you can travel for kilometers along these roads without encountering a single house or business. It felt like traveling through the middle of nowhere, and I kept praying the car wouldn't break down, especially since the mobile signal wasn't great. To reach Cerbaia—the first stop on the route—you have to drive along long, isolated roads flanked by open fields.
Cerbaia and Poggioni are located practically halfway between Montecatini and Fucecchio; getting there is quite easy. While the roads run through isolated countryside and open fields, they are well-maintained—unlike some other rural areas, there are no potholes or speed bumps—though, being surrounded by nature, one must watch out for the occasional animal crossing the road. In any case, the countryside around Cerbaia truly enchanted me; like much of the local landscape, it is surrounded by vast fields of sunflowers—my favorite flowers. These fields are beautiful and well-tended, lifting the spirits, even if the extreme temperatures have left the blooms looking a bit lackluster rather than at their best. Let’s hope autumn brings some rain for the fields and crops—it is sorely needed; we are all weary of the extreme heat, and nature is suffering from it, too. The threat of drought is looming.

Buenas tardes, amigos del blog: ¿cómo están? Hoy los llevo conmigo a otro viaje; nos dirigimos de nuevo al campo. Esta vez, nos aventuramos un poco más lejos, hacia Fucecchio, en la provincia de Florencia —o mejor dicho, justo en el límite entre Pistoia y Florencia—. Fucecchio es un municipio extenso rodeado por el famoso Padule di Fucecchio (una zona de marismas) y vastas áreas rurales. Hoy exploramos la zona fronteriza entre Pistoia y Florencia visitando dos localidades: Cerbaia y Poggioni. Cerbaia toma su nombre de las colinas bajas que rodean la zona: las Colline Cerbaie. Aún no las he visitado, pero se dice que poseen una flora y fauna increíblemente ricas y únicas, incluidas algunas especies de plantas y animales poco comunes; tendré que visitar esas colinas tarde o temprano. En cualquier caso, tanto Cerbaia como Poggioni son zonas rurales enclavadas en un paisaje campestre inmenso; se pueden recorrer kilómetros por estas carreteras sin encontrar ni una sola casa o negocio. Cerbaia y Poggioni se encuentran prácticamente a medio camino entre Montecatini y Fucecchio; llegar hasta allí es bastante sencillo. Aunque las carreteras atraviesan zonas rurales aisladas y campos abiertos, están bien conservadas —a diferencia de otras áreas rurales, no hay baches ni resaltos—; no obstante, al estar rodeado de naturaleza, hay que estar atento por si algún animal cruza la vía. En cualquier caso, el paisaje que rodea Cerbaia me cautivó por completo; como gran parte del entorno local, está rodeado de vastos campos de girasoles, mis flores favoritas. Estos campos son hermosos y están bien cuidados, lo que reconforta el ánimo, aunque las temperaturas extremas hayan hecho que las flores luzcan algo apagadas en lugar de mostrar todo su esplendor. Esperemos que el otoño traiga algo de lluvia para los campos y los cultivos, pues hace mucha falta; todos estamos agotados por el calor extremo y la naturaleza también lo está sufriendo. La amenaza de la sequía se cierne sobre nosotros.
Then we headed toward the countryside of Poggioni, located in the municipality of Cerreto Guidi. The roads leading there were very isolated; we passed few cars and saw no people—partly because there were very few houses and only the occasional abandoned farmhouse, so I imagine the area is sparsely populated. Naturally, there were no businesses, shops, or anything of the sort. The surrounding countryside, however, was beautiful: fields stretching endlessly and greenery everywhere.
At Poggioni, however, we also found a different kind of landscape—there were more trees, such as poplars, pines, and cedars, and in the distance, we could even see some settlements. Luego nos dirigimos hacia la zona rural de Poggioni, situada en el municipio de Cerreto Guidi. Las carreteras que llevaban allí estaban muy solitarias; nos cruzamos con pocos coches y no vimos a nadie, en parte porque había muy pocas casas y solo alguna que otra granja abandonada, por lo que imagino que la zona está escasamente poblada. Como era de esperar, no había negocios, tiendas ni nada por el estilo. Sin embargo, el paisaje circundante era hermoso: campos que se extendían hasta el infinito y vegetación por todas partes.
Sin embargo, en Poggioni encontramos un paisaje diferente: había más árboles, como álamos, pinos y cedros, e incluso podíamos divisar algunos asentamientos a lo lejos. Son lugares hermosos si buscas naturaleza y tranquilidad; aquí puedes recorrer la zona o caminar sin interrupciones.
