RESTORE THE LIBERATOR'S HOUSE [ENG/ESP]

During my time away from the blog, I had several extraordinary experiences using my creative skills in the visual arts. I recently shared my experience participating in the restoration of the Church of La Pastora in Caracas, Venezuela. This was the beginning of my journey restoring cultural heritage sites in the nation. Today, I'm sharing something even more incredible: I had the opportunity to participate in the restoration of the house of Simón Bolívar, the Liberator.
En este tiempo que pasé ausente del blog pude vivir varias experiencias extraordinarias usando mis habilidades creativas en las artes plásticas; hace poco compartí mi experiencia participando en la restauración de la Iglesia de la Pastora en la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela. Este fue mi inicio por un recorrido restaurando patrimonios culturales de la nación; hoy les vengo a compartir algo aún más increíble, tuve la oportunidad de participar en la restauración de la casa del Libertador Simón Bolívar.
The work I did at the Pastora church turned out excellent, so they hired me again, but this time to participate in the restoration of the building that currently houses the "Bolivarian Society of Venezuela." This colonial house is located in the historic center of the city of Caracas, right next to the birthplace of Simón Bolívar. The area is called the "Bolívar block," and all of these properties at some point in history belonged to the liberator.
El trabajo que realice en la iglesia de la Pastora quedo excelente, por eso me volvieron a contratar, pero esta vez para participar en la restauración de la edificación donde se aloja actualmente la "Sociedad Bolivariana de Venezuela" esta casa colonial se encuentra ubicada en el casco histórico de la ciudad de Caracas, justo a un lado de la casa natal de Simón Bolívar, la zona es llamada la "cuadra Bolívar", todas esas propiedades en algún momento de la historia pertenecieron al libertador.
They had been working on the restoration for a few months; only the final details were missing. My main job was to work on the facade, but when I arrived, the bricklayers still had some finishing touches to complete. So, they offered me some other tasks while the facade was being finished. The first thing I did was help restore a large library located within the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela. We had to take the books off the shelves, detach the shelves from the wall, and restore the frieze and wall paint. Then we had to put everything back in order. That was easy, but it took us two weeks because the library was so large.
En el lugar llevaban unos cuantos meses trabajando en la restauración, solo faltaban los detalles finales, mi labor principal era trabajar en la fachada, pero cuando llegue todavía faltaban algunos detalles por parte de los albañiles, entonces me ofrecieron realizar algunas otras labores mientras estaba listo lo otro. Lo primero que hice fue ayudar en la restauración de una gran biblioteca que se encuentra dentro de la sociedad bolivariana de Venezuela; teníamos que bajar los libros de los estantes, separar los estantes de la pared y restaurar friso y pintura de la pared, luego volver a organizar todo, eso fue fácil, pero nos tardamos dos semanas, ya que la biblioteca era grande.
Then I went to a small auditorium. That space had been almost completely restored; the seats had new cushions, and I was tasked with replacing the felt on some of the panels along the side walls to improve the acoustics. This task initially intimidated me because it seemed a bit difficult to do alone, but I ended up doing it with ease. I restored five panels; I also restored the felt on the main auditorium door and replaced the tacks with gold ones.
Luego pase a un pequeño auditorio que hay, ese espacio fue restaurado casi completamente, a los asientos le hicieron nuevos cojines y a mí me toco remplazar el fieltro de algunos de los paneles que hay en las paredes laterales para mejorar la acústica. Esta tarea al principio me intimido porque la vi algo un poco difícil de hacer yo solo, pero luego lo hice con mucha facilidad, restaure 5 paneles; también restaure los fieltros de la puerta principal del auditorio y remplace las tachuelas por unas doradas.
Finally, I restored a drawing on the cornice of the building's facade. When it came time for this, I had a limited timeframe of three days, so I called Brother Diego, with whom I've worked before and know to be responsible, to help me finish within that time, as this was a slightly more demanding task. We made the most of those three days, working late into the night to meet the deadline, but we succeeded and achieved a high-quality result.
Por último, restaure un dibujo en la cornisa de la fachada de la edificación, para cuando me toco hacer esto ya tenía un tiempo limitado de 3 días, así que llame al hermano Diego, con quien he trabajado y sé que es responsable, para poder culminar en ese tiempo, ya que esta si era una labor un poco más exigente. El tiempo en estos tres días lo usamos al máximo, trabajamos hasta tarde para poder cumplir con esa entrega, pero se logró con éxito y calidad.
Currently, the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela doesn't play a relevant role, so I consider the capital invested in these kinds of things a waste. However, I don't control those decisions, which is why I choose to focus on the history and what this colonial house represents as part of the nation's cultural heritage. This is the second heritage restoration project I can add to my professional resume. I hope you enjoyed this extraordinary experience. Good vibes.
En la actualidad la Sociedad bolivariana de Venezuela no cumple algún rol relevante, así que para mí el capital que se invierte en este tipo de cosas lo considero un desperdicio, pero yo no controlo esas decisiones, por esa razón decido poner el valor en la historia y en lo que representa esta casa colonial como parte del patrimonio cultural de la nación. Esta es la segunda restauración patrimonial que puedo sumar a mi currículo profesional, espero que les haya gustado esta extraordinaria experiencia, buenas vibras.
