ENGLISH

Today I want to contribute to this new installment of our beloved @syllem’s “Inspiring Letters” series, as follows:
They say experience is a degree, but in my case, it sometimes feels more like an honorary doctorate in “screwing things up big time.”
There was a time in my life when diplomacy, patience, and that whole “think before you act” thing simply didn’t exist on my mental map. I was impulsiveness personified: I acted first, asked questions later, and, if I was lucky, picked up the pieces afterward. Mistakes? Plenty. Hefty bills that still weigh on me? Ugh… let’s not even go there; the outstanding balance is still there, racking up interest.
Life is a pretty strict teacher. Sometimes it teaches with patience, but other times we have to learn the hard way. That’s how I came to understand, perhaps a little late that impulsiveness isn’t always a good guide.

I went from being a wildfire of uncontrolled energy to becoming a sort of forensic investigator of my own decisions. Now I dissect everything: I analyze possibilities, imagine scenarios, and weigh the pros and cons before taking a step. And although it sounds responsible, it often stems from the fear of making the same mistake again.
But on the other hand, going to the other extreme, the over-analyzer emerged. That version of me who wants to have all the answers before getting started, who gets frustrated by uncertainty and feels like the wait is taking forever. My mind sometimes feels like a computer with too many tabs open: it processes, calculates, anticipates… until it ends up exhausted before taking action.
Luckily, over the years I’ve also developed a certain knack for practicality. I’ve learned that not everything requires a board meeting, a three-month audit, or an endless list of possibilities. There are small situations that simply get resolved as they come up, without needing to turn them into a matter of life and death like a trip to the beach, a hike in the mountains, grabbing coffee with a friend, having ice cream with my son, watching a good Netflix series, or finishing that book I left forgotten in the bottom drawer of my nightstand.
In the end, I think it’s about finding a balance with that pendulum: not going back to being someone who reacts without thinking, but also not letting myself become paralyzed by overthinking everything. The goal isn’t to have absolute control, because that’s impossible. Maybe it’s about thinking enough to act consciously, and then letting go a little to maintain my peace of mind.
