Exploring the East Side of the Beach (Eng/Esp)

I spent some time with my family at Maigualida Beach, right in the area designated for swimmers, but the eastern part of the beach drew me in to explore those grounds—it looked like a forest—so I put my shoes back on, since I didn’t know what kind of terrain I might encounter in this place I was visiting for the first time.

The view was incredible; the beach seemed to transform into a beautiful lake, offering the kind of images of a paradise island you see in movies. I made my way toward the mangrove area, but I knew it would be impenetrable—there was no visible path that would allow access by land without exposing myself to too many dangers. So I decided to walk along the shore, which quickly changed from sand to mud, causing me to sink with every step.

Some branches covered much of the shore, so if I wanted to keep going, I had to take off my shoes and get my feet wet to continue along the beach. As I was doing this, I stopped for a few seconds and noticed some insects fluttering above me—they were horseflies buzzing in my ear. When I heard them, I ran off because I thought they were bees. They chased me for quite a while.

I ran a long way with the flies right behind me, waving my hands—but they didn’t seem to get the message—until finally my Liketu cap saved me when I waved it vigorously in the air, chasing the insects away. My heart was pounding; I thought they were going to sting me, so it turned out to be an excellent cardiovascular workout. The good thing was that I’d gotten out of sight of the spa, so they didn’t see me running and waving my arms around like a crazy person.

It was worth the effort, although I realized that this part of the beach isn’t suitable for swimming because the tide reaches all the way to the dense vegetation and washes up black mud full of insects and debris. Plus, the shore is muddy, which makes it unsafe to walk far into the beach due to the risk of getting a sharp object stuck in your feet.

The view was spectacular in this hidden paradise; boats could be seen in the distance, but you’d have to swim to reach them, and my adventurous spirit doesn’t extend that far today. The mangrove forest was beautiful; here, the vegetation and the sea blended together splendidly. I really enjoyed this glimpse of nature.

Compartí con mi familia un rato en la playa Maigualida justo en la zona destinada a los bañistas, pero la zona Este me invitaba a conocer esos predios, porque parecía un bosque, así que nuevamente me calcé pues desconocía cuáles superficies podría encontrarme en este lugar que visitaba por vez primera.

La vista era increíble, la playa parecía transfigurarse en un hermoso lago, ofreciendo esas imágenes de isla paradisíaca que se aprecia en las películas. Avancé hacia el lado del mangle, sin embargo, sabía que sería impenetrable, no se observaba ningún camino que permitiera acceder por tierra sin exponerse a demasiados peligros. Por tanto, decidí ir por la orilla, la cual rápidamente cambió de arena a fango, hundiéndome a cada paso.

Algunas ramas cubrían gran parte de la orilla, así que si quería continuar debía abandonar mis zapatos y mojar mis pies para continuar por la playa, mientras hacia esto me detuve unos segundos y me percaté que tenía unos insectos revoloteando encima, eran unos pegones que zumbaban en mi oído, al escucharlos salí corriendo porque pensé que eran unas abejas. Me persiguieron un buen rato.

Estuve corriendo un gran trayecto y los pegones detrás de mí, hacia movimiento con las manos y no entendían el mensaje, hasta que finalmente mi gorra de Liketu me salvó al batirla con intensidad en el aire y de esta forma alejar los insectos. El corazón me latió muy fuerte, pensé que me picarían, así que fue un excelente ejercicio cardiovascular. Lo bueno es que había superado el ángulo de vista desde el balneario, así que no me vieron corriendo y agitando los brazos como una loca.

Valió la pena el esfuerzo, aunque me di cuenta de que este lado de la playa no es apto para bañarse porque la marea llega hasta la vegetación abundante y se trae de vuelta una tierra negra llena de insectos y desperdicios. Además que la orilla es fangosa, superficie que no es adecuada para internarse en la playa por el riesgo de enterrarse un objeto filoso en los pies.

La vista era espectacular en este paraíso escondido, más allá se observaban botes, pero había que llegar nadando y mi espíritu aventurero hoy no llega a tales extremos. El manglar era hermoso, aquí se combinaba vegetación y mar de forma espléndida. Disfruté mucho de esta mirada a la naturaleza.
