Paradise Street (Eng/Esp)

English version

I keep discovering art in new corners of the city; now Paraíso Street welcomes me with a new mural depicting two musicians who, with an accordion and a drum, radiate joy.

Also featured are a cuatro, a mandolin, and a pair of maracas—symbols of our eastern joropo. The mural also depicts the silhouettes of couples dancing, a tradition that continues to this day.

Another notable element is the cayena, a very beautiful flower that is characteristic of the popular joroperas—women who wear it in one ear to enhance their beauty and add color to their attire. Although this flower is not native to the country, it has a significant presence here; it has adapted so well to this tropical climate that it can be found in every region.

If we walk a little further, we’ll find another mural, which has been restored and depicts the Virgen del Valle, the patron saint of eastern Venezuela and protector of fishermen and sailors—hence the great devotion she inspires in different corners of this land.

As for Paraíso Street, it’s an important thoroughfare because it connects us to the city center. Here we find significant landmarks such as the Luis Mariano Rivera Theater, which borders Francisco de Miranda Square; the Ipostel headquarters; and Juncal Boulevard, which provides access to the Sucre State Government headquarters.

Whenever I pay close attention to the street, I discover new elements—details that bring me closer to our unique character. In this case, each mural seeks to celebrate customs and traditions, helping to leave a tangible legacy for future generations.
