Small Snacks But I've Plenty of Great Memories With It: Munching Steamed Jackfruit Seeds with The Fam!

I first learned that we can eat the jackfruit seeds from Mama, when I was a kid and we'll eat jackfruit at home, she will keep all the seeds and put it on top of rice that is just about to be cooked. She said we can boil it too but for me, steaming it that way is so much better and I think the jackfruit seeds taste good that way. Even Mommy D didn't know about it. That just cooking it with rice is so much better She said, though they eat them, but they just boil them and if there's too much they will just throw them away. Well, they have tree of it so its understandable that not everything will be eaten.

Anyways, because we don't eat them that often, when we received ripe jackfruit from Auntie V, I made sure to save all the seeds because I really miss eating it. Surely, Mama feel that same way. Hehe. We saved a lot of the seeds that we had them on different days. The best time to eat them is while its hot actually. I dunno, I enjoyed it when its hot coz, its texture just feel so good in my mouth. And really, I made sure to eat lots of them because I know, it will take more time before we can eat them again. If ever we received another Jackfruit from Auntie V, Mommy D just might cook them coz they taste awesome when cooked in coconut milk too.

So here how I easily steamed these seeds. Its easy, really, as you can see I literally just drop them on top of the rice. I leave it there for like 4 minutes and let it get steamed inside of it.

Then i picked them all after that 4 minutes. I already tried one here actually and it is already cooked. I can't really compare thus to a peanut or pili nut. Its different but its really good.

For the taste, hmmmmm, there is a really just milf bitterness in it. I can't call it sweet, but the slight bitterness in it just added to its whole taste? Its really hard to explain. I wish y'all can taste test it too in here

But the way, before we can eat them, we of course needs to remove its skin, aside from its hard peel, it is also another think skin that is very attached to the flesh. Removing is completely hard. But coz its thin, I sometimes just eat it with the flesh hahaha. I mean, why make it hard for myself no? Lol

Anyways, I am so, so happy that I get to eat this again after a long time. Its rare for us to eat ripe jackfruit coz the fam like the unripe one to cook it as a dish, especially with coconut milk. It also feels good to remember the time I ate them with the fam as a kid. Hihi... and sooooooooo, I ate these while doing something. When I watch movie or a series, this a good snacks to munch on. It just feel like having peanuts or junkfood while watching. Hihi. Now, have y'all tried a Jackfruit Seeds?.

Hindi ko na alam ang lasa niyan. Bata pa yata ako nung last akong kumain ng ganyan. 🤣 Anyways, it is nice that your Mama taught you how to cook them by steaming with rice. That sounds simple but also very tasty. I agree that steaming gives a better flavor compared to boiling. It is interesting that Mommy D did not know about this way of cooking, even though they eat jackfruit seeds too. 😁 I think it shows how families have different traditions with food. For me, I like how you did not waste the seeds and found a delicious way to enjoy them. Thank you for sharing this memory, because it makes me curious to try jackfruit seeds myself again. 😂
