This is our last stop from our recent trip up north. We were heading home from Edinburgh and that is a long way so we looked for somewhere to stop via the Nation Trust app. I found Crook Hall Gardens that is not far from Durham city centre.
This is really just a garden as I do not think the house is open. They do have a cafe by the entrance where we could get some lunch. There is a maze near that, but we did not try it.
The garden was looking lush despite the recent dry weather. There are a number of different areas that have been designed around various themes.
You can walk through a small part of the building that looks old.
I think these were new beds that are shaped like church windows with the cathedral in the distance.
There was a new area they have reclaimed from a field. We had a chat with some of the volunteers there who were busy tending the beds. There was also an interesting display of different types of composting. I have a few bins of my own to recycle out waste.
We are always looking for ideas and liked this bed. We have plenty of old bricks we could use.
We have been to Durham before, but did not know about this place. It made for a nice break from the long drive.
