Follow Friday: It's a steal!

The News

You probably heard that Binance got hacked for over $6bn. That was bound to hit crypto prices. @ds-tech had some thoughts on that.

Prices from @coingecko

$HIVE and the legacy coin have closed the gap and I hope to see Team Red take a clear lead soon. We are still waiting for whatever can help us break through. I saw that reddit were locking down their content a bit so maybe we can capitalise on that. I do not like it when sites do not let you see content without logging in when there are no privacy issues. I want anyone to be able to see my Hive posts.

$HBD is still way off peg at over $1.70. I do not know if that is being addressed, but it may not be viable to most people to sell at that price if it is only on certain exchanges.

People also need to be aware that there is an issue with Claude in VS Code. I expect we will see more of this as people rush to exploit new tools.

Friday Follows

  • I enjoy the posts by @normie.fitness about health and exercise. He just hit a weight milestone after moving more to running rather than just pumping iron. You need exercise and a good diet to shift weight.
  • With all the hype about AI it was interesting to read some thoughts from the @ecency team on how much difference it can actually make to a project like theirs. In a similar vein I saw this from the Ardour audio software project. A lot of the open source world are suspicious of AI, but even the Linux founder is trying it.
  • @ravenmus1c is also using AI to develop a game based around music production.
  • @thelogicaldude 3d-printed a server rack. I did something similar to tidy my network gear. We have lots of people here into 3d-printing and it is cool to see what people make.
  • I have been trying the new features of @threespeak such as chapters. That project is making great progress, but @meno addresses the issues around storage. Video needs a lot of it and it may not be viable to store everything forever with their resources. We may need to pay to keep our videos online. We can only earn from them for a week via Hive, but 3speak can pay you in the longer term if you allow ads in your videos.
  • I see @gtg just posted about a quick way to set up a Hive exchange node. I would like to look into contributing to the Hive infrastructure, but I may need more of an idiot's guide. I am fairly technical, but not in that area. We need to know about the different types of node, their hardware requirements and the required steps to set them up as well as on-going maintenance. It is possible that information is already out there. With current memory and storage prices it may be more expensive to set these things up now.

The Dog House

I do not like to be seen as 'having a go' at people who are just trying to make something from Hive, but there is a thing known as the 'Reply Guy' who may just comment more than they should. Of course I want engagement on Hive, but I get a lot that is variations on 'well done' or is telling me how I must feel. I am very aware of how I feel and am more interested in what others really think about what I post. Some of these comments do look as if they could come from an AI that has analysed the post and the commenting frequency may suggest that a human did not have time to read all the posts they comment on.

Quality matters more than quantity and it applies to comments too.

I know that some people will use translation tools and possibly AI to write their comments, but you should be doing your best to appear to be human. I will make my own judgement on replies I get and apply votes according to that. If you fail my 'Turing test' then you cannot expect to earn much.

I would hope that Hive can be about human interaction, but the online world is changing. The earning aspect can distort things and people will exploit available technology to make more.

The End

We are almost into November and running out of year. The next HPUD is imminent and I plan to boost my HP again. I have been converting some Hive Engine tokens I do not really use as I would prefer to increase my vote. I have previously sold game assets as I only play @risingstargame these days and that is not for profit in my case.

I wish you all a great weekend. Stay human and Hive five!

  • Thank you for teaching the term “Reply Guy.” I figured there had to be a term for that behaviour.

Some more of those that follow you around officially did the same for me this week. 😜

I agree that quality is more important than quantity, especially when it comes to comments.

Good weekly update; it seems lots have happened on Hive this week. The Binance hack is the headline, for sure. It will be interesting seeing the effects over the coming days, even weeks.

Shame about the doghouse I notice I get spammy comments on peakD snaps normally but occasionally on my blog posts too.

    Have a good weekend.

The Binance hack hitting prices and Reddit locking things down makes for a grim news week, though Hive closing the gap on the legacy coin is a brighter spot.

  • That was bound to hit crypto prices.

There was a hit, but even if the amounts represented the higher hack on crypto, the impacto was not that big compared to past events.

Did you see the story about the latest Reaper? It came with a whole load of new instruments which the software has never been released with before. Thing is they were vibe coded which caused some consternation. A day later the plugins have been dropped!

  • @gtg(76)· 1d

That weird price of HBD you are seeing is because of the isolated upbit that stopped deposits there (so people can't actually bring there more). As for the nodes - sure, hardware prices went up but our software is pretty damn good, so you can run it on a 6 years old smartphone (pruned and from snapshot, but still :-) )

  • I think some AI-based translators may sound like an AI-generated comment.
