[ENG/ESP] A Friday spent working, organizing, and exploring the island.

I wish you all a happy weekend, filled with peace and good times. Today marks the end of my last day at work, and another time I’ll tell you in more detail how it went when we changed the filter media in a 15,000-liter-per-hour filter—a task that always requires precision, dedication, and a lot of coordination. But for now, I want to share with you how my Friday went—a day filled with preparations and little moments that, as always, are part of our daily life on this beautiful island. This Friday started off at a leisurely pace. We didn’t have to leave too early because we were headed to the Sunsol Unik hotel to submit our invoices and coordinate everything related to Saturday’s work at Sunsol Ecoland. Since our appointment wasn’t until after 9:00 a.m., we decided to take our time, enjoying the pleasant weather the island treated us to from the early morning hours. The sky was clear, the air was fresh, and every stretch of the road seemed to invite us to take a deep breath and be grateful for living surrounded by so much natural beauty.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with the warmth that always characterizes the staff at Unik. We submitted our invoices for the work performed, and everything went smoothly—that kind of harmony that makes administrative tasks much more manageable.

With that first mission accomplished, it was time for us to head to the municipality of Gómez to coordinate Saturday’s work—a day we knew would be demanding because of the responsibility of working on the desalination plant without interrupting its operation. On the way, we passed by the house of a friend who sells fruit. He had fresh patilla, and for those unfamiliar with this fruit, it’s what we call “melon” back in my homeland. It’s usually sweet, juicy, and perfect for hydrating the body, especially on hot days. My husband and I couldn’t resist the temptation and immediately ate a nice slice—the kind that lifts your spirits and gives you the energy to keep going.

Then we climbed up through Portachuelo, enjoying urban landscapes that seemed more vibrant than usual. The daylight highlighted every detail: the houses, the trees, and the roads winding through the hills.

We also passed by the beautiful La Playa lagoon, which always welcomes us with its boats anchored there after a day’s work. That image—so ordinary and so familiar to us—has a way of making us pause for a second, as if the landscape wanted to remind us that the island also works, breathes, and rests alongside us.

We finally arrived at the Sunsol Ecoland Hotel to coordinate everything related to Saturday’s work. The task was important: replacing the filter cartridges without shutting down the desalination plant. Although it may sound simple, it’s a process that requires precision, organization, and a great deal of responsibility, because the hotel’s water supply depends on that plant—and, consequently, so do the well-being of all the guests and the smooth operation of the facility.

After going over every detail and getting everything ready for the next day, we headed home to rest and prepare for the challenge that lay ahead. It was a productive day, filled with little breaks, beautiful scenery, and the satisfaction of making steady progress on each task with calm and dedication. So I’ll see you in another one of my posts, where I’ll share another little glimpse into our daily life on this island we love so much.
See you soon.
Bye

Chao

The pleasant weather and beautiful landscapes made your journey more enjoyable. I especially liked reading about the stop for fresh patilla. It sounds like a perfect treat on a busy day.
