I hope you’re having a lovely, restful Sunday—one of those days that feels so good after a busy week. Today, finally, it’s my turn to rest, and I want to take some time to recharge my energy and share peaceful moments with my family, who are always my refuge and my source of strength. But before I fully immerse myself in this well-deserved rest, I want to tell you about my workday this past Saturday, a day that began early and ended with the satisfaction of a job well done. As I mentioned in my previous post, this Saturday I had to work at the Sunsol Ecoland hotel’s desalination plant because we had to install and seal one of its filters with the new media. It was an important and meticulous job, so we were up and running very early. We had to pick up the crew, and two of them live quite a distance away, so to arrive at our destination on time, we literally had to set out at dawn. Even so, the weather gave us a break that day; it didn’t feel as hot as it had on previous days, and that made our trip more pleasant, accompanied by beautiful scenery and that gentle coolness you only feel at dawn on the island.
Espero que estén teniendo un lindo y reparador domingo, uno de esos días que se sienten muy bien después de una semana intensa. Hoy, por fin, me toca descansar, y quiero dedicarle un poco de tiempo a recargar mis energías y compartir momentos tranquilos con mi familia, que siempre es mi refugio y mi impulso. Pero antes de sumergirme por completo en este descanso merecido, quiero contarles cómo fue mi día de trabajo este sábado que recién culminó, un día que comenzó temprano y terminó con la satisfacción del deber cumplido. Como les comenté en mi publicación anterior, este sábado me tocó trabajar en la planta desalinizadora del hotel Sunsol Ecoland, porque teníamos que colocar y sellar uno de sus filtros con las cargas nuevas. Era un trabajo importante y minucioso, así que desde muy temprano ya estábamos en movimiento. Teníamos que recoger al personal, y dos de ellos viven un tanto distantes, por lo que para llegar a tiempo a nuestro destino era necesario amanecer, literalmente. Aun así, el clima este día nos dio un respiro; no se sentía tan caluroso como en días anteriores, y eso hizo que nuestro recorrido fuera más agradable, acompañado de paisajes hermosos y ese frescor suave que solo se siente al amanecer en la Isla.
After picking up all the staff, we took the Portachuelo Road, which was the closest route from where we were. That road always surprises us with its urban and natural landscapes—a combination that turns every trip into a little visual spectacle. It’s impossible not to admire the beauty of Margarita, even when you’re on your way to a demanding job.
Después de recoger a todo el personal, tomamos la vía Portachuelo, que era la ruta más cercana desde donde nos encontrábamos. Ese camino siempre nos sorprende con sus paisajes urbanos y naturales, una mezcla que convierte cada trayecto en un pequeño espectáculo visual. Es imposible no admirar la belleza de Margarita incluso cuando uno va rumbo a un trabajo exigente.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed, as always, and we immediately got down to business to make the most of Saturday. Everyone knew what their job was. In my case, I was responsible for repairing the filter screen with a fiberglass mixture, because it was damaged and there are currently no replacement parts available on the island. While we’re waiting for the order to arrive from abroad, we had to resolve the situation with what we had on hand, and I set out to do my best.
Al llegar al hotel fuimos bien recibidos, como siempre, y enseguida nos pusimos manos a la obra para aprovechar el sábado. Cada quien sabía cuál era su labor. En mi caso, me correspondía reparar la araña del filtro con una mezcla de fibra de vidrio, porque estaba dañada y en estos momentos no hay reemplazo disponible en la Isla. Mientras se hace la solicitud para comprar la pieza en el exterior, teníamos que resolver la situación con lo que teníamos, y yo me dispuse a hacer mi tarea lo mejor posible.
However, I spent a long time bent over while working, and that caused me severe pain in the pit of my stomach, which worried me. They immediately took me to the nearest clinic, where they prescribed medication that provided significant relief and allowed me to get back to work. When I returned, they had already brushed the filter and loaded the machine. Everyone was a little concerned because I’m usually the one cheering them on, and they noticed I seemed serious and downcast—something that’s not typical of me. Luckily, it all blew over. The doctor explained that my stomach muscle had contracted due to my posture, which was uncomfortable but temporary.
Sin embargo, estuve mucho rato doblada trabajando, y eso me provocó un dolor fuerte en la boca del estómago que me preocupó. De inmediato me llevaron al ambulatorio más cercano, donde me indicaron un medicamento que me alivió bastante y me permitió reincorporarme. Cuando regresé, ya habían cepillado el filtro y colocado la carga. Todos estaban un poco inquietos porque siempre ando dándoles ánimo, y me notaban seria y decaída, algo que no es común en mí. Por suerte, todo pasó. El doctor me explicó que el músculo del estómago se había contraído por la posición, que era molesto pero pasajero.
Once we got into the swing of things, the work moved along at a good pace. We began sealing the filter, laying down the fiberglass layers from thinnest to thickest and rolling them generously until the process was complete.
Ya más activa, el trabajo fluyó con buen ritmo. Comenzamos a sellar el filtro, colocando las capas de fibra de vidrio de menor a mayor, pasando el rodillo generosamente hasta culminar el proceso.
Once everything was ready and done right, we took a short tour of the hotel, enjoying the beautiful weather and the sense of calm that comes when you know you’ve done your job. That’s how our Saturday went: intense, productive, and full of dedication. We ended the day feeling satisfied and ready for our well-deserved rest.
Cuando todo quedó listo y bien hecho, dimos un pequeño recorrido por el hotel, disfrutando del clima hermoso y de la tranquilidad que llega cuando uno sabe que cumplió con su labor. Así transcurrió nuestro sábado; intenso, productivo y lleno de compromiso. Terminamos satisfechos y listos para nuestro merecido descanso.
