5 styling tips for writing better hive posts

5. Transparente PNGs

While developing the Crypto Space app, I noticed that Hive posts are quite a mess. Almost like Geocities 2.0.

Historically, Hive (or Steem) has allowed both Markdown and HTML tags, which is a stylistic disaster but offers greater technical flexibility.

I think it would have been better if we had stuck to Markdown exclusively, but there’s no changing that now.

1. Markdown instead of HTML

My first tip, therefore, is to use only Markdown and as little formatting as possible, leaving the formatting rather to the front-ends.

2. Do not use tables for layout

Web designers from the early 2000s will know this tip all too well. Don’t use tables as a substitute for layout; use tables only when you really want to post tabular content.

3. Avoid excessive use of separator lines and footers

Don’t use too many divider lines or overly long footers. It just doesn’t look good.

4. Start headings at h2

If you use headings, start with h2 headings ## since the post title already uses h1.

5. Use transparent PNGs

Last but not least, use transparent PNGs for artwork so they’re compatible with both light and dark themes.

Okay, those were the five most important tips I’ve noticed.

What other useful tips do you think there are? Or should everyone just do it however they want?

Great tips. I really like the heading one. ;)
