ENGLISH VERSION

The Halloween Party (Week 02): A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Very grateful to the Scrobble @hive-110713 community and @wiseagent for being one of the winners of this first week's activity.

Now I want to encourage more friends to participate, everything you need to know is in this link, so if you have a horror movie in mind, this is the opportunity to write about it.

Now, let the movie roll.

🎬 A bit of context

It turns out that it all starts with Tina Gray, a girl from Elm Street who begins to have a terrifying nightmare: a disfigured man, wearing a striped sweater, a hat, and gloves with blades, chases her relentlessly. The worst part is that, upon waking up, she has real wounds that exactly match what happened to her in the dream.

Tina tells her friends Nancy, Glen, and Rod what happened, but none of them really understand what's going on. Shortly after, Tina dies in a brutal manner while she sleeps. The unsettling thing is that her friends are present, and it seems that something invisible is attacking her.

From there, Nancy begins to experience the same nightmares and discovers that the killer can attack his victims while they sleep.

Nancy starts to investigate and discovers that Freddy is not simply a creature of her dreams. Years ago, Freddy Krueger had been a child killer who lived on Elm Street. He was captured, but was released due to a mistake.

The parents of the murdered children, enraged because Freddy had not received his deserved punishment, decided to take revenge into their own hands and burned him alive. However, he returned in a strange supernatural way.

Now he can enter the dreams of teenagers and kill them while they sleep. That means if you die in the dream, you also die in reality, and that's the most terrifying part for them.

Nancy tries to stay awake to prevent Freddy from finding her, but obviously, that has its limits, especially since Freddy uses dreams to manipulate reality, appear wherever he wants, and psychologically play with his victims.

So she understands that the solution is not in not sleeping, and decides to do something different: instead of continuing to run away, she plans to confront Freddy directly.

She manages to bring Freddy from the dream world to the real world and tries to take away the power he has over her.

Will she manage to defeat him, or will he, as always, set up a scenario to fake everything? If you want to know what will happen, I invite you to watch the movie with friends and plenty of popcorn.

TRAILER:

⚠ ALERT: From here on out, there are going to be a lot of spoilers, so be careful.

💀 Very creepy parts for me

I think this was one of the first horror movies I ever saw. As some of you may already know, I don't really like them because I'm very scared, hehe.

But I feel that this one, as I mentioned in the summary, plays with the psychological aspect of the characters, and it's more frustrating because you can't do anything about it; besides, being without sleep is not possible.

I love that several animated series have referenced this movie; for example, The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, among others.

One of the most dramatic scenes is when Tina is killed: she is dreaming and sees Freddy start to attack her. But in reality, it looked like something was dragging her and lifting her into the air until it killed her. No one knows what to do to help her, how scary! Hehe.

And since they didn't know how it had happened, the first thing they did was suspect her boyfriend and take him to jail. But, when his friends tried to save him, it was already too late: Freddy already had him in his sights and killed him too. While in his cell, he was found hanged with a sheet.

Johnny Depp also appears: his character is sleeping while Nancy takes care of him, but in a moment of distraction —and honestly, I don't quite know how it happens— Freddy catches him, makes him disappear into the bed, and ends up spraying a huge amount of blood onto the ceiling. Terrifying!

It's very frustrating to see each of their deaths, because their friends tried to help them, but they realized it wasn't possible, or at least not in the real world.

Now I also think about the part where they burn Freddy alive. Although he caused many deaths, that scene was very ugly; I imagine the pain and it terrifies me.

And, finally, there's the ending, where it seems like they defeated him, but it all ends up seeming like a dream. The movie ends leaving some uncertainty about whether Nancy really woke up or if she is still trapped in a dream.

☁ Some reflections

Thanks to this movie, I always thought that if you die in a dream, you die in real life. But I don't know why, despite not liking this genre, I was intrigued to find out what happened to the teenagers.

I don't agree with everything Freddy did in life, and even worse, that due to police errors, they released this murderer.

Unfortunately, the parents saw only one solution to all this: to burn him alive and, at least, obtain some justice.

This topic is complicated: sometimes we tend to see that kind of behavior, and in the face of so much helplessness from not receiving support from the authorities, one ends up thinking and doing worse things.

It's a great movie that makes the viewer unsure if they are in a dream or in reality, even worse if you start to imagine that this could be possible, like I did, hehe.

I hope you liked it and tell me which scene scared you the most. Also, don't forget to participate in the activity I mentioned at the beginning.

See you in the next post.

Such a classic choice for this round, @waralotito.

When it comes to horror movies, this is definitely one of my favorite.

  • @mobi72(68)· 17h

I watched this movie in late 80s and you are right very terrifying one. The most annoying thing was not to find characters able to help themselves against this devil. Like you I am also not a fan of horror movies but A Nightmare on Elm street series and Evil Dead were two that I had watched before I decided not to watch this genre of movies. Nonetheless both the series were fantastic if you asked me now.

Gracias. Warita🍀
