ENGLISH VERSION
Mulan: Courage Has No Gender
Good evening, Scrobble community, today I bring you this animated movie about the famous young woman who fought in the war to prevent her father from going and to preserve the family honor.
Surely many of you have seen it, so grab your popcorn and let's get started.
🎬 A bit of context
Mulan was a young woman who lived with her parents and her grandmother in ancient China. Among the young woman's responsibilities were household chores, but the most important thing was that she had to find a husband and thus honor her family.
Mulan was not like the other young women: she was a dreamer, somewhat forgetful, carefree, but she loved her family very much. One day, the opportunity arose for the village matchmaker to interview the young woman and thus pair her with a good match.
But during her interview, she got nervous, caused accidents, and disobeyed the matchmaker's orders. All of this caused the lady to get very angry with her and told her that she would never find a husband like that and that she was a disgrace to her family and ancestors.
She, very sad, just left and continued with her life. Until one day, by order of the Emperor of China, all the men from the families were recruited to fight for their nation.
Mulan, realizing that her father was already very tired and sick, wanted to excuse him from going with the soldiers, but upon seeing the scene and the embarrassment it was causing, she just stepped away from the place.
Mulan was very worried about her father's life, so, without thinking much, she decided to take his place in the war: at dawn, she left with her father's horse and weapons, and she went.
Do you think Mulan will manage to convince the soldiers that she is a man? If you want to know what happens next, I invite you to watch the full movie.
And if you've already seen it, keep reading the post.

♥ What I liked the most
This is one of my favorite movies because I really like Asian culture and I enjoy learning about all of it. The food, the clothing, the customs, the tourist spots, the martial arts, among other things.
One of my favorite scenes is when Mulan is very late to get ready for her interview with the matchmaker, so she puts her little dog to feed the chickens, which caused a whole mess in the family temple, haha.
After this part, comes the scene where they get Mulan ready to be very beautiful and presentable before the matchmaker. They bathe her, comb her hair, do her makeup, and dress her, all in the Asian style of that time.
Now, if we keep moving forward in the movie, the part when she is alone with the matchmaker is very funny because, thanks to that so-called lucky cricket, she causes a lot of problems. For example, he spills tea on that lady, who then gets burned and catches fire, and finally, when trying to put out the fire, he pours the entire teapot on her, leaving her all disheveled and angry.
I love this movie because there are so many great scenes. Now, continuing: when Mulan starts practicing to look like a man, the great dragon appears, but upon seeing it, she is disappointed because it was super small.
After joining the Chinese army, Mulan starts socializing with her comrades, so much so that they sing a song about their ideal girl, and she obviously doesn't identify with it, but sings a small line to rhyme. That song is a classic, haha.
And the final scene that wraps everything up is when Mulan, with her friends disguised as concubines, go to save the emperor from the bad guys, and they all use her techniques to defeat everyone. They manage to save him, and the emperor himself thanks Mulan and the entire team for their work. She returns home and makes her father very proud.
☁ Some reflections
This story is based on an ancient Chinese legend (the Ballad of Mulan), although there is no historical certainty that she actually existed. Obviously, the movie made several changes, but the central idea—that Mulan went to war in place of her father—comes from that legend.
It's interesting that, after the war was over, they only found out she was actually a woman because Mulan was injured; otherwise, they might never have realized.
It was clear that she was very good at fighting and devising strategies; she even saved Shang from the Huns. The truth is, I think she was a great warrior.
She managed to make her family proud and also made the entire city kneel in respect. That scene is very good.
It is very ironic that, when they saw Mulan as a man, they were her friends and all respected her, but when they saw she was a woman, they ignored and denigrated her. In those times, women had neither voice nor vote, so that was also reflected in their behavior.
But Mulan managed to prove that she was very good as a soldier and in fighting, and that they shouldn't focus only on gender, but on the person's worth.
I hope you enjoyed this movie and I would like you to leave in the comments which scene you liked the most.
See you in the next post.
