I recently started watching Silo and after watching the first two episodes, I realized that this series is not a good choice if you like to be able to understand everything immediately. Actually, I was quite often confused while watching Silo! 😁 However, strangely enough, this confusion is also one of the reasons why I decided to continue watching.
The first episode introduces us to an underground place called Silo, where thousands of people are living. Basically no one knows where they live and what's beyond it. Interesting thing is that people are strictly forbidden to leave it and even if they talk about leaving they would be thrown out to die. It's not another post-apocalyptic series but after watching, I realized there are some more to the story to see, hehe.
"From" had created same contusion as "Silo". So, clearly I was not having a easy way to understand the full story it's like impossible to guess or figure out what had happened in the beginning of the series. It's just the beginning so, I'm glad they didn't unfold it all at once, otherwise I would be bored.
I have like many questions about this series like why are the people living underground? What kind of apocalypse caused this situation and why it's toxic out there and people are safe underground. Who built the Silo and why are people not allowed to speak with freedom. So, what is actually outside that is harmful?
The creators of the series have done a great job with the story. At least they made us feel included as they give us some pieces of information so we can try to connect the dots. 🤔 nevermind, I liked the confusion, it keeps me excited, hehe.
What caught my attention was the way the Silo controls its residents. This is probably one of the most important topics to discuss after watching the first two episodes: how much freedom can people have if they only follow rules because they think it is for their own good?
Everybody who lives in the Silo accepts the rules and everything the sheriff says without asking any questions. They all work, have families, lead their lives and do not even think about the possibility that they will never see the open world. However, as it often happens in real life, the rules and the way the sheriff is treating the residents of the Silo can be quite cruel.
You can compare this series to our real life and like we really never question our system or anything we are just following the rules without knowing their origin. We are similar to ants who just do their jobs and follows the trail everyone follows. It is true we always follow the rules just because everybody does it.
It seems that residents of the Silo have taken this "following the rules" to a whole new level!
In Silo, people are not allowed to be outside to check if there is really something harmful. If they leave the Silo they can't come back and it's the rules.
The first episode also made me start wondering about the relationship between the sheriff and his wife. How weird it was to see them acting so differently towards the idea of "outside world". This made me think about one of the topics which reflects on my real life.
I prefer series where I can follow the storyline and understand but sometimes I let go of it for cases like Silo. However, this thinking process is what probably made me like Silo even more. I do think that I am also a resident of Silo because I'm alsotrying to find out what mysteries have been hidden from them for so long.
I also like the mysterious atmosphere and the way all the action takes place underground where people feel trapped. It makes me think about multiple things that might have happened to people in order for them to be put in such conditions. The fact that residents of the Silo cannot even be sure that they will be able to survive outside makes ordinary conversations turn into something bigger. It makes me think that there must be some cruel truth that made the sheriff treat people the way he treats them.
I am curious enough to watch episode 3 and perhaps find some answers. So, I am confused whom should I trust? This series started with people treating each other very differently. Well, these mysterious feelings only made me want to find out what will happen next.
