Hello to everyone in the Movies & TV Shows community! Today I bring you a new movie review and this time I will be talking about one of my favorite movies, "Habana Blues". A Spanish-Cuban movie directed by Benito Zambrano and released in 2004, which tells us the life of Ruy and Tito, two Cuban musicians who find a great opportunity to take their profession to the top when a Spanish producer proposes them to record an album and leave the country to make a career in Europe. A drama film where music plays a fundamental role. Join me in this review.
Ruy is an enthusiastic young man, in love with music and women. He lives with Caridad, the mother of his children but they do not have a romantic relationship with her because Caridad decided some time ago that it was better to separate since she is actually the only one who brings money to the house through the sale of her handicrafts. A fact that torments Ruy, because he wants to be able to support the family and unfortunately his music and talent have not been enough to fulfill this desire.
¡Hola a todos en la comunidad de Movies & TV Shows! El día de hoy les traigo una nueva reseña de película y esta vez estaré hablando sobre una de mis películas favoritas se trata de "Habana Blues". Una película española-cubana dirigida por Benito Zambrano y lanzada en el año 2004, la cuál nos cuenta la vida de Ruy y Tito, dos músicos cubanos que encuentran una gran oportunidad para llevar su profesión a lo máximo cuándo una productora española les propone grabar un disco y salir del país para hacer carrera por Europa. Una película de drama dónde la música cumple un papel fundamental. Acompáñame en esta reseña.
Ruy es un joven entusiasta, enamorado de la música y de las mujeres. Vive con Caridad, la madre de sus hijos pero no tienen una relación romántica con ella pues hace tiempo que Caridad decidió que era mejor separarse pues ella es en realidad la única que lleva dinero a la casa a través de la venta de sus artesanías. Un hecho que atormenta a Ruy, pues este desea poder sostener a la familia y lamentablemente su música y talento no han sido suficientes para cumplir este deseo.
On the other hand, Tito is an energetic young man focused on his music. He lives with his grandmother, who happens to be a great singer and collaborator of Ruy and Tito's young band. He wants to leave Cuba because he wants to achieve success and although he values his family, he knows that it is better to risk than to stay.
One day a Spanish record label arrives in the country where Marta, who is a talent scout, stands out and meets Ruy and Tito, who have heard about them and hope that they will be chosen. She sees great talent in them and in the course of the time in which Ruy and Tito show Marta all the musicians they know (traditional Cuban music bands, rock, blues, etc.), a brief romance arises between Mars and Ruy. This will awaken some conflict between the friends and the fact that Marta has decided to release an album and make a contract with the musicians where they are required to go on tour in Europe to also pay the money invested in the production. It is what they have most wanted but Ruy does not seem to feel good about the idea.
Por otro lado, Tito es un joven energético y enfocado en su música. Vive con su abuela, quién resulta ser una gran cantante y colaboradora de la joven banda de Ruy y Tito. El desea salir de Cuba pues quiere alcanzar el éxito y aunque valora a su familia, sabe qué es mejor arriesgarse que quedarse.
Un buen día llega al país una disquera española dónde destaca Marta, quién es una cazatalentos y se encuentra con Ruy y Tito, quienes han oído hablar de ellos y tienen la esperanza de que los escojan. Ella ve gran talento en ellos y en entre el trascurso del tiempo en que Ruy y Tito le muestran a Marta todos los musicos que conocen (bandas de música tradicional cubana, rock, blues, etc.), surge un breve romance entre Mars y Ruy. Esto despertará cierto conflicto entre los amigos y se suma el hecho de que Marta a decidido sacar un disco y realizar un contrato con los músicos dónde se les exige que deben salir de gira por Europa para pagar también lo invertido en la producción. Es lo que más han deseado pero Ruy no parece sentirse bien del todo con la idea.
This film is especially charming for its incredible soundtrack, the choice of actors who have exceptional charisma and a script that makes this story requires us to imagine being in the shoes of Ruy and Tito, who must decide to leave their home and family for a dream. The conflict of positions, from a communist country to capitalism, from making music for pleasure to selling their work (Ruy points out that making "commercial music" takes away the essence of their work), from leaving the known for the unknown, true love for the fleetingness of a lover. As the song, Arenas de la Soledad, a theme that accompanies us in the film, says: to start again, without destiny and without wanting to. Sometimes reality demands us to take us out of our nest. Esta película resulta especialmente encantadora por su increíble banda sonora, la elección de actores que cuentan con un carisma excepcional y un guión que hace que esta historia nos exija imaginar estar en los zapatos de Ruy y Tito, quienes deben decidir abandonar su hogar y familia por un sueño. El conflicto de posturas, de un país comunista al capitalismo, de hacer música por gusto a vender su trabajo (Ruy destaca que hacer "música comercial" resta la esencia de su trabajo), de dejar lo conocido por lo desconocido, el amor verdadero por la fugacidad de una amante. Cómo dice la canción, Arenas de la Soledad, un tema que nos acompaña en la película: empezar de nuevo, sin destino y sin querer. A veces la realidad nos exije a sacarnos de nuestro nido. Les dejo la canción para que puedan disfrutarla y me despido finalmente por aquí no sin antes recomendarles que le echen un ojo pues realmente buena y no los decepcionará.
