Hola amigos || Hello friends
No hay duda, ese sentimiento de compartir una película de mi infancia con mi hija y ver que ella la disfruta tanto como yo recuerdo que lo hice, es oro puro. La primera vez que vi esta película recuerdo haber ido con mi papá a un club de video saben, de esos antiguos donde se alquilaban cualquier tipo de películas. Esta si no mal recuerdo la vi en el formato VHS claro que después la vi tantas veces por las trasmisiones de Tv que ya perdí la cuenta.
There’s no doubt about it: that feeling of sharing a film from my childhood with my daughter and seeing her enjoy it just as much as I remember doing is pure gold. The first time I saw this film, I remember going with my dad to a video club you know, one of those old-fashioned ones where you could hire all sorts of films. If I remember correctly, I watched it on VHS; of course, I’ve seen it so many times on TV since then that I’ve lost count.
Para mí Daniel el Travieso es exactamente una de esas cintas que la historia nunca podrá olvidar. La vi incontables veces cuando era niño, riéndome de cada una de las travesuras de Daniel y por supuesto, del sufriendo del pobre Señor Wilson pero seamos claro, ahora a esta edad volver a verla no me da tanta risa ver por lo que pasa el Sr Wilson, más bien todo lo contrario y es ahí donde me doy cuenta que sí, ya los 44 están pegando ja ja ja…
For me, Daniel the Mischief-Maker is exactly the sort of film that history will never forget. I watched it countless times as a child, laughing at every one of Daniel’s pranks and, of course, at poor Mr Wilson’s suffering, but let’s be clear: now that I’m this age, watching it again doesn’t make me laugh quite so much at what Mr Wilson goes through quite the opposite, in fact and that’s when I realise that, yes, turning 44 is really taking its toll, ha ha ha

Cuando le sugerí a Luna ver esta película tenía sus dudas y yo miedo de que no le gustara pero no, a Luna le encantó por completo toda la película hasta el punto que la vimos muy silenciosa en los últimos minutos de la película. De verdad estaba viviendo la historia detrás de las risas y su felicidad por las travesuras de Daniel pero ok, no lo puedo negar, ver a Luna reírse a tanto con las mismas ocurrencias que me hacían reír a mí fue una experiencia increíble.
When I suggested to Luna that we watch this film, she was a bit unsure and I was worried she wouldn’t like it, but no Luna absolutely loved the whole film, to the point that she sat very quietly during the final few minutes. She was really getting into the story behind all the laughter and her delight at Daniel’s antics, but OK, I can’t deny it seeing Luna laugh so much at the very same jokes that made me laugh was an incredible experience.
No creo que no recuerden a Daniel, aquel niño con una gran capacidad para el desastre. Esta película es de 1993 justo cuando el cine familiar estaba en pleno apogeo y no es por nada pero el guion de la película estuvo a cargo del gran John Hughes quien es la mente maestra no solo de esta película sino otro de los grandes clásicos familiares del cine, Mi Pobre Angelito pero no fue solo por eso que la película logró captar a un gran numero de fan. La película fue y todavía hoy, sigue siendo un éxito. A quien no le dijimos en algún momento que se parecía a Daniel el travieso? Ja ja ja…
I can’t imagine you don’t remember Daniel, that boy with a knack for getting into trouble. This film is from 1993, just when family cinema was at its peak, and it’s no coincidence that the screenplay was written by the great John Hughes, who is the mastermind behind not only this film but another of cinema’s great family classics, Home Alone. But that wasn’t the only reason the film managed to attract such a large following. The film was, and still is today, a hit. Who among us hasn’t been told at some point that we looked like Daniel the troublemaker? Ha ha ha…
Lo que sí, es que compartir no solo este recuerdo sino la pelicula con Luna me recordó lo valioso que es el cine como puente generacional. A veces nos preocupamos por si los niños de hoy lograran conectar con los efectos o el ritmo de las películas de los 90, pero cuando una historia tiene personajes bien construidos y corazón, el tiempo no pasa por ella como lo mencioné en aquella primera reseña en Srobble que Luna quedó también fascinada con La Historia sin fin. Antes de despedirme me gustaría hacerles una acotación, es curioso pero me pasa cuando Luna no está en casa y es que a veces ese caos de los niños no le damos ese valor que tanto nos aporta. Es justo lo que Daniel, el Sr Wilson y la película nos regala con su historia. ¿Un lindo mensaje no?
What is true, though, is that sharing not only this memory but also the film with Luna reminded me just how valuable cinema is as a bridge between generations. Sometimes we worry whether today’s children will be able to connect with the special effects or the pace of films from the 90s, but when a story has well-developed characters and heart, time stands still for it as I mentioned in that first review on Srobble, Luna was also captivated by The Neverending Story. Before I go, I’d like to make a point: it’s funny, but it happens to me when Luna isn’t at home sometimes we don’t appreciate the value that children’s chaos brings us. That’s exactly what Daniel, Mr Wilson and the film give us through their story. A lovely message, isn’t it?
