Review Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

¡Hola comunidad! Hoy les vengo a hablar de la película de Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

Ustedes no saben, pero soy muy fan de todo el mundo de Resident Evil, desde los videojuegos (que es como lo conocí) hasta los libros (sí, tienen libros), y las películas no son la excepción. Ya saben que existen las de Milla Jovovich. Si bien su personaje no es uno que se pueda encontrar en los juegos, de todos modos es icónico en la franquicia de películas.

Por ello, con el objetivo de hacer películas más fieles a los videojuegos, se pensó esta otra adaptación de la que les voy a dar mí opinión ahora.

Hello community! Today I'm here to tell you about the movie Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

You guys don't know, but I'm a huge fan of the whole Resident Evil world, from the video games (which is how I got to know it) to the books (yes, they have books), and the movies are no exception. You know there are the ones with Milla Jovovich. While her character isn't one you'd find in the games, she's iconic in the movie franchise nonetheless.

Therefore, with the aim of making films more faithful to the video games, this other adaptation was thought of, of which I am going to give you my opinion now.

Trama de Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City   Esta historia se nos presenta con una de las protagonistas, Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), que después de haber huido cuando todavía era una niña de un orfanato en la ciudad de Raccoon City, vuelve en busca de su hermano, Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), quien se convirtió en policía de dicha ciudad. Pero en el camino se encuentra con que están pasando sucesos extraños, y cree saber quienes son los responsables.

Plot of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

This story features one of the main characters, Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), who, after running away as a child from an orphanage in Raccoon City, returns in search of her brother, Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), who has become a Raccoon City police officer. But along the way, she finds that strange things are happening, and she thinks she knows who is responsible.

  En Raccoon City opera una importante industria farmacéutica llamada **Umbrella**. Pero en Umbrella se hacen mucho más que medicamentos. Los científicos trabajan con un poderoso virus, el llamado virus–T, que es capaz de convertir a las personas en diversos monstruos o criaturas peligrosas capaz de matar y seguir transmitiendo la enfermedad a todos con los que tienen contacto. 

Algo paso y el virus-T se salió de control. Así nos encontramos con una ciudad a merced de un virus que fue esparcido quizá de forma accidental o quizá intencional. 

En este contexto un equipo de policía va a investigar la mansión Spencer, fuera de la ciudad, dónde reside el científico que está detrás de todo esto; y allí se encuentran con parte de la verdad de lo que está pasando. Mientras tanto la corporación Umbrella tiene planes terribles para detener el brote.  

Raccoon City is home to a major pharmaceutical industry called Umbrella. But Umbrella makes much more than just drugs. Scientists work with a powerful virus, the so-called T-virus, which is capable of turning people into various monsters or dangerous creatures capable of killing and continuing to transmit the disease to everyone they come into contact with.

Something happened and the T-virus got out of control. So we find ourselves with a city at the mercy of a virus that was spread perhaps accidentally or perhaps intentionally.

In this context a police team goes to investigate the Spencer mansion, outside the city, where the scientist behind all this resides; and there they find out part of the truth of what is going on. Meanwhile the Umbrella corporation has terrible plans to stop the outbreak.  

Mí opinión 

Bueno hasta ahí más o menos como viene la trama en esta nueva adaptación de esta famosa saga. 

Como les comenté más arriba, esta película busca ser una copia más fiel a lo que son los videojuegos.

Si bien tiene mucha crítica negativa, ya les puedo adelantar que a mí me gustó. Aparte logra algunas escenas muy icónicas que me hicieron fangirlear fuertemente. 

My opinion 

Well, that's about as far as the plot goes in this new adaptation of this famous series.

As I mentioned above, this movie aims to be a more faithful copy of the video games.

Although it has a lot of negative reviews, I can already tell you that I liked it. Besides, it has some very iconic scenes that made me really enjoy it.

Es una mezcla extraña entre el videojuego 1 y 2, quizá hubiera preferido que las hicieran por separado. Pero el juego 1 no pego tanto como el 2 en su momento. Hay escenas calcadas a las de los videojuegos, aprecio mucho eso.

Sí me falto más acción, como que fue todo muy rápido, lo que hizo que la historia dejara de lado tramas importantes. Por eso hubiera preferido que se centraran en una sola. Pero entiendo que tenían que empezar por el 2 que es el juego donde se empezó a hacer conocida esta historia y no querían dejar de lado la historia del 1 tampoco.

Otra cosa que no me gustó nada es lo que le hicieron al gran Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia), lo convirtieron en un policía inútil y, está bien, le aporta humor a la historia, pero ¿por qué justo él habiendo tantos personajes? En los videojuegos a Leon se lo ve salvando la situación, es un policía rudo y no le teme a nada. Aquí estas características brillaron por su ausencia. Me pareció un desperdicio. Ojalá lo arreglen si es que deciden continuar con más películas después del fiasco que parece haber sido esta adaptación.

It's a strange mix between videogame 1 and 2, maybe I would have preferred them to be made separately. But game 1 didn't hit as much as game 2 at the time. There are scenes that are very similar to those of the videogames, I really appreciate that.

I did miss more action, as it was all very fast, which made the story leave out important plots. That's why I would have preferred to focus on just one. But I understand that they had to start with 2 which is the game where this story started to become known and they didn't want to leave aside the story of 1 either.

Another thing I didn't like at all is what they did to the great Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia), they turned him into a useless cop and, okay, he adds humor to the story, but why just him when there are so many characters? In the video games Leon is seen saving the day, he's a tough cop and he's not afraid of anything. Here these characteristics were conspicuous by their absence. It seemed like a waste to me. I hope they fix it if they decide to continue with more movies after the mistake that seems to have been this adaptation.

Los efectos especiales si estuvieron medio pelo, pero lo asocie a la época en la que está ambientada la historia (1998), y, en parte, a las características grotescas de los monstruos en los primeros juegos no remasterizados. Los zombies son calvos como en el juego 1.

The special effects were average, but I associated it to the time in which the story is set (1998), and, in part, to the grotesque characteristics of the monsters in the first games not remastered. The zombies are bald like in game 1.

Pero en líneas generales la disfrute bastante, me entretiene mucho todo este mundo. Lo único es que me dejó sabor a poco. Así que cualquier cosa que hagan al respecto yo lo estaré consumiendo. 

A pesar de no haber tenido un buen impacto espero que continúen la historia para ver si mejora o si es mejor dejarla en el olvido.

But overall I enjoyed it quite a lot, I am very entertained by all this world. The only thing is that it left me with a little taste. So whatever they do about it I'll be consuming it. 

Despite not having a good impact I hope they continue the story to see if it improves or if it is better to leave it in oblivion.
