Hello dear movie lovers, today I want to talk about a very interesting short film that I saw some time ago and that by chance of life I saw it again and found it very interesting and I would like to share it with you. I tell you that this short film is directed by Neil Blomkamp, a director well known for his work on the film District 9, Elysium and Chappie, so you can already have an idea of the aesthetics and photography that he has accustomed us to in his hundreds of sci- fi. You can find this little short on YouTube, it was produced and presented as part of the work of Oats Studios in 2017 and it lasts 22 minutes, I hope you like it!
Hola queridos amantes del cine, hoy quiero hablar de un cortometraje muy interesante que vi hace algún tiempo y que por casualidades de la vida lo volví a ver y lo encontré muy interesante y me gustaría compartirlo con ustedes. Les comento que este cortometraje está dirigido por Neil Blomkamp, director muy reconocido por su trabajo en la película Distrito 9, Elysium y Chappie, así que ya podrán tener una idea de la estética y a la fotografía que nos tiene acostumbrado en sus cientas de sci-fi. Este pequeño corto pueden encontrarlo en Youtube, fue producido y presentado como parte de los trabajos de Oats Studios en el año 2017 y tiene una duración de 22 minutos, espero que les guste!
Plot
The short film brings us the story of an alien invasion that for the year of its premiere was in 2020, for us at present it is past, in said invasion the human race is almost annihilated by a species of extraterrestrials with the appearance of reptiles, they They find themselves transforming the earth's atmosphere to suit their surroundings, annihilating life and nature in the process. In the world there is a small resistance that tries to fight against the invaders although it is a lost cause, only due to the carelessness of the reptiles themselves, human beings seem to have some kind of hope. The short film is divided into small segments where important events are narrated to us, at the beginning a voiceover narrates the past of humanity and its current reality under the invasion, which is on the verge of extinction.
El cortomeetraje nos trae la historia de una invasión alienígena que para el año del su estreno se situaba en 2020, para nosotros en la atcualidad es pasado, en dicha invasión la raza humana es casi aniquilada por una especie de extraterrestres con apariencia de reptiles, se encuentran transformando la atmósfera de la tierra para adaptarla a su entorno aniquilando la vida y la naturaleza en el proceso. En el mundo queda una reducida resistencia que intenta luchar contra los invasores aunque es una causa perdida, solo por descuido de los mismos reptiles, los seres humanos parecen tener alguna clase de esperanza. El cortometraje viene dividido en en pequeños segmentos donse se nos narran acontecimientos importantes, al inicio una voz en off nos narra el pasado de la humanidad y su realidad actual bajo la invasión, que se encuentra al borde de la extinción.

This short film is strongly influenced by Terminator 1, the 1984 film, by the way the events are narrated and how they show us what is happening. Seeing the Eiffel Tower adorned with millions of human corpses hanging from it is a horrifying sight of the level of cruelty and death faced by survivors.
No puedo ocultar que me sentí impactado desde el inicio al reconocer la voz que narraba tan triste historia y no solo eso, también por el ambiente, destrucción total, toda la atmósfera gris como si se tratara de una gran industria, lo cual es cierto, la industria que funciona es la de la muerte, ya que hay un genocido en curso que practican los reptiles con los seres humanos. Este cortometraje está fuertemente influenciado por Terminator 1, la cinta de 1984, por la forma en que se narran los acontecimientos y como nos muestran lo que está sucediendo. El hecho de ver a la torre Eiffel adornada con millones de cadáveres humanos colgado es una visión espantosa del nivel de crueldad y muerte al que se enfrentan los sobrevivientes.
Alien Invasión

They also need to transform the atmosphere, for this they use towers that contaminate oxygen with methane gas, completely altering the balance causing the extermination of life, with the exception of insects, rats and humans. So we can conclude that this invasive species is taking over the planet to inhabit it and at the same time improve their species with human DNA, exterminating human beings in the process.
Ahora se preguntarán cuales son las motivaciones de estos reptiles y cual es el métodoso de su invasión. Bueno, les diré que han exterminado a una gran cantidad de seres humanos, exterminan día y noche sin descanso pero este exterminio es un efecto secundario ya que la razón principal es localizar humanos que sirvan como incubadoras de su especie lo cual nos dice mucho sobre esta raza de reptiles, los cuales son como parásitos. También necesitan transformar la atmósfera, para ello utilizan unas torres que contaminan el oxígeno con gas metano, alterando por completo el equilibrio causando el exterminio de la vida, a excepcion de insectos, ratas y humanos. Entonces podemos concluir que esta especie invasora esta apoderándose del planeta para habitarlo y al mismo tiempo mejorar su especie con el ADN humano, exterminando en el proceso a los seres humanos.
Characters

And speaking of leadership, the influence of Terminator 1 is undeniable again, here we can see her as one of the main leaders touring a survivor shelter, just like Kyle Reese did when we had that flashback of the future against the machines, I love when a reference is well done and only adds to the excitement.
Ahora mencionaré a los personajes importantes.Recuerdan que les hablé de una reconocida voz en la narración? Pues era nada mas y nada menos que nuestra Ellen Ripley, la gran actriz Sigourney Weaver, al verla en pantalla me emocioné en gran manera, y además nos muestra lo que fue la ambición de este proyecto al contar con la actuación de alguien tan importante en el mundo de la Sci-Fi, si alguien puede liderar la resistencia humana es alguien ha luchado contra los malditos xenomorfos, aunque aquí su personaje es otro, pero es igual de sombrío y valiente. Y hablando de liderazgo es innegable nuevamente la influencia de Terminator 1, aquí la podemos ver como una de las líderes principales recorriendo un refugio de sobrevivientes, tal como lo hizo Kyle Reese cuando tuvimos ese flashback del futuro contra las máquinas, adoro cuando una referencia está bien hechoa y no hace más que acrecentar la emoción.
The second most important character in the story is Nosh, he is a psychopath, I like his character, he is a human being only in front because his aptitude is not far from reptiles. He is an expert in making bombs and weapons, in his arsonist madness his only objective is to burn living beings and he does not care if they are humans or reptiles, his inclusion in the story gives him an important weight since he tells us about human nature in its two forms, the benign and the malignant. Nosh has easily adapted to the new world and celebrates that things are like this since if civilization existed he would be behind bars. The resistance must deal with him to get the necessary equipment to fight, although the amount is always limited, Nosh asks for something monstrous in return, they ask that they give him sick or dying human beings to burn them or blow them up with their bombs. . That's why I say that this character is incredible within the story and shows us that if humanity survives, he will too.
El segundo personaje en importancia dentro de la historia es Nosh, él es un psicópata, me gusta su personaje, el es un ser humano solo de fachada porque su aptitud no dista mucho de los reptiles. Es un experto en hacer bombas y armas, en su locura de pirómano su único objetivo es quemar seres vivientes y no le importa si son humanos o reptiles, su inclusión en la historia le da un peso importante ya que nos habla de la naturaleza humana en sus dos formas, la benigna y la maligna. Nosh se ha adaptado facilmente al nuevo mundo y celebra que las cosas sean así ya que si la civilización existiera él estaría tras las rejas. La resistencia debe tratar con él para conseguir el equipo necesario para luchar, aunque siempre es limitado la cantidad, Nosh pide a cambio algo monstruoso, piden que le den seres humanos enfermos o al borde de la muerte para el quemarlos o hacerlos estallar con sus bombas. Por eso digo que este personaje es increíble dentro de la historia y nos muestra que si la humanidad sobrevive él también lo hará.

Amir is used by the resistance because he has the ability to see the future, the resistance looks for signs of weaknesses of the reptiles since they are invincible and some hope, Amir manages to see things that indicate a small hope, however the destruction and death that also manages to see does not stop but grows.
El tercer personaje importante es Amir, el es un ser humano único ya que logró sobrevivir a los experimentos horribles de los reptiles, solo sobreviven 1 entre 10 millones de seres umanos. Los reptiles al experimentar con los humanos para buscar los mejores huesped reconfiguran el cerebro para que el cuerpo se adapte para ser incubadoras, en este proceso algunos seres humanos desarrollan poderes psíquicos muy elevados, para los reptiles esto es un experimento fallido por lo que los desechan. Amir es utilizado por la resistencia porque tiene la capacidad del ver al futuro, la resistencia busca indicios de debilidades de los reptiles ya que son invencibles y alguna esperanza, Amir logra ver cosas que nos indican una pequeña esperanza sin embargo la destrucción y muerte que también logra ver no se detiene sino que crece.
Nature of the Aliens
Something that caught my attention is the nature of the aliens, their reptilian appearance contrasts with their physical strength far superior to that of a human being, although they can die, however their weaknesses are almost non-existent. Apart from their physical strength they have better weapons that allow them to expand their advantage in combat, they also have powerful mental control which is capable of overriding the human will, projecting false visions or realities and can also move objects with telekinesis. Even so, it strikes me that they use human political figures as puppets to deceive humans and that they surrender voluntarily, they do not give politicians mind control but a lobotomy that completely changes the functioning of their brain turning them into robots at the command of the aliens.
I believe that the fact of taking this trouble is of great importance to them, and my analysis of this fact is that the aliens in their cruelty prefer to capture humans in this way and then make them suffer, it must be a kind of food for them. In one of the visions of the human Amir it is possible to see a frightening scene where they burn the humans on crosses and the alines scream and dance around them. Quite a dance scene.
Algo que me llamó mucho la atención es la naturaleza de los aliens, su apariencia de reptil contrasta con su fuerza física muy superior a la de un ser humano aunque estos pueden morir, sin embargo sus debilidades son casi inexistentes. A parte de su fuerza física poseen mejores armas que les permiten ampliar su ventaja en combate, también tienen un poderoso control mental el cual es capaz de anular la voluntad humana, proyectar visiones o realidades falsas y también pueden mover objetos con telequinesis. Aún así me llama la atención de que utilizan a las figuras políticas humanas como títeres para engañar a los humanos y que estos se entreguen voluntariamente, a los políticos no les hacen control mental sino una lobotomia que cambia por completo el funcionamiento de su cerebro convirtiendolos en robots a las ordenes de los aliens.
Creo que el hecho de tomarse esta molestia tiene una gran importancia para ellos, y mi analisis de este hecho es que los aliens en su crueldad prefieren capturar a los humanos de esta forma para luego hacerlos sufrir, debe ser para ellos una especie de alimento. En una de las visiones del humano Amir se logra ver una escena espantosa donde queman a los humanos en cruces y los alines gritan y bailan a su alrededor. Toda una escena danstesca.
Opinion and Analysis
My opinion is that this little story leaves you wanting to know more and have a well-developed film, in a few minutes it presents us with an impressive conflict, the director has used CGI very well and the cyberpunk aesthetic achieved is excellent. If we compare this short film with his previous films, I think it is his most disturbing film, due to the theme and the level of death and cruelty handled. I am sure that this story works very well as a metaphor for social criticism, Neil Blomkamp has always presented this type of film with a social message, whether it is the division of classes, immigration or the fear of technology, here survival puts us face of the "unknown". The story for me works very well as a criticism of what multinational companies do to the third world, where they destroy the land and steal resources for their own benefit, leaving the countries ruined, contaminated, where the local political class sells that as development and progress for its citizens, you know, the lobotomy they practiced on politicians. Mi opinión es que esta pequeña historia te deja con ganas de saber más y tener una película bien desarrollada, en poco minutos nos presenta un conflicto impresionante, el director ha utilizado muy bien el CGI y la estética cyberpunk lograda es excelente. Si comparamos este cortometraje con sus películas anteriores creo que es su cinta más perturbadora, por la temática y el nivel de muerte y crueldad manejado. Estoy seguro que esta historia funciona muy bien como una metáfora de crítica social, Neil Blomkamp siempre ha presentado este tipo de películas con un mensaje social, ya sea la división de clases, la inmigración o el miedo a la tecnología, aquí nos pone la superviviencia humana frente a lo "desconocido". La historia para mi funciona muy bien como una crítica a lo que las empresas multinacionales hacen al tercer mundo, donde destruyen la tierra y roban los recursos para su propio beneficio, dejando a los paises arruinados, contaminados, donde la clase política local vende eso como desarrollo y progreso para sus ciudadanos, ya saben, la lobotomía que le practicaban a los políticos.
