Keep in mind that this is written by someone who was long reluctant to delve into the world of K-dramas. K-dramas are series made and produced in South Korea, and they can be romance, action, fantasy, horror, suspense, etc. I haven't gotten into romance yet, but I've started watching everything else, little by little, and friends, our Korean friends make some really good series. Today, it's the turn of a story that's pure, unadulterated action, but with touches of comedy and drama; a spectacular series with a very interesting story behind it. And, as is customary in these kinds of plots, the means to reach the end will be punches and kicks.

Se entiende como K-drama a las series hechas y producidas en Corea del Sur y que pueden ser de romance, acción, fantasía, terror, suspenso, etc. Yo al romance no llego pero todo lo demás lo comencé a ver, poco a poco eso si, y amigos, muy buenas series las que nuestros amigos coreanos hacen. Hoy le toca el turno a una historia que es acción pura y dura pero con sus pinceladas de comedia y drama; un espectáculo de serie con una historia muy interesante detrás. Y es que como ya es costumbre en este tipo de tramas, el medio para llegar al fin serán los puños y las patadas.
We have a family consisting of a father and daughter. The father, Kim, is an apparently quiet man with a routine and unremarkable office job. His daughter, Min-ji, is a sweet girl who suffers bullying at school (a common occurrence in Korea, unfortunately) from a group of classmates, one of whom has a very powerful father. This conflict escalates to the point where Min-ji is kidnapped, forcing Kim to confront his past. He was a lethal North Korean spy, but the birth of his daughter forced him to leave all that behind. With the skills you can imagine he possesses, he will move heaven and earth to find Min-ji.

Su hija, Min-ji, es una niña dulce pero que en su colegio sufre de Bullying (algo común en Corea, lamentablemente) por parte de un grupo de compañeras de clase en donde una de ellas tiene a un papá muy poderoso. Ese conflicto escala a tal punto que a Min-ji la secuestran lo que hace que Kim tenga que desenterrar cosas de su pasada. Él era un espía norcoreano letal pero que por el nacimiento de su hija tuvo que dejar todo eso atrás. Con esas habilidades que se imaginarán que tiene se dispondrá a mover cielo y tierra hasta encontrar a Min-ji.
But of course, so far so good. The thing is, the plot gets much deeper. It's not just Min-ji's disappearance; the political aspect of the conflict between the two Koreas also comes into play. So we have two storylines that will eventually converge because, with Kim as the common denominator, everything leads back to him. This series has 10 episodes, all over an hour long, but it's incredibly fast-paced and easy to watch. So much happens, so many well-developed characters, that it's truly a pleasure to sit down and enjoy the plot. On one hand, we have this powerful father, a man with influence and a thuggish attitude, trying to protect his daughter, who is a bully; and on the other hand, we have the story of North Korea with its agents trying to track down Kim to capture and kill him. And in the middle of it all is Kim himself, with his two companions, navigating the chaos.
Pero claro, hasta acá todo bien. La cosa es que la trama se profundiza mucho más. No solo es la desaparición de Min-ji sino que también entra en ese juego la parte política con el tema del conflicto entre las dos Coreas. Entonces tenemos dos frentes de la historia que al final se unirán porque al ser Kim el común denominador todo lleva a él. Esta serie tiene 10 capítulos, todos de más de una hora, pero se hace super rápida de ver por lo dinámica que es, son tantas cosas que pasan, tantos personajes bien desarrollados que la verdad da mucho gusto sentarse a disfrutar la trama. Por un lado tenemos a este papá poderoso que es un tipo con influencias y actitud de matón con dinero tratando de proteger a su hija, la que hace bullying; y por el otro tenemos la historia de Corea del Norte con sus agentes tratando de dar con Kim para capturarlo y matarlo. Y en el medio de todo está el propio Kim, con sus dos compañeros, haciéndose paso entre tanto desastre.
The action here is spectacular. The fight scenes and choreography are very top, these actors put everything into it to make it look incredible. She is clearly violent and harsh when she needs to be. There are punches, kicks, shots, knives, bats; Everything you can imagine as a weapon you will surely see. But he also has a very comical side and this is provided by his two companions, former agents, who are equally or even more lethal than Kim himself. The combination of the three is really funny and their personalities are so different that they clash a lot but maintaining the brotherhood that is undeniable. And of course, the drama and anguish of a father looking for his daughter; There are a couple of very cool scenes between them that softens everything. So yes, comedy and drama are the perfect complement for this series that is a bombardment of action from start to finish.
La acción acá es espectacular. Las escenas y coreografías de las peleas son muy top, estos actores le ponen de todo para que se vea increíble. Claramente es violenta y dura cuando tiene que serlo. Hay golpes, patadas, disparos, cuchillos, bates; todo lo que se puedan imaginar como arma seguramente lo verán. Pero también tiene un lado muy cómico y este lo pone sus dos compañeros, unos ex agentes, que son igual o hasta más letales que el propio Kim. La combinación de los tres da realmente risa además de que sus personalidades son tan diferentes que chocan mucho pero manteniendo la hermandad que es innegable. Y claro, el drama y angustia de un padre buscando a su hija; hay par de escenas muy cool entre ellos que suaviza todo. Así que si, la comedia y el drama son el complemento perfecto para esta serie que es un bombardeo de acción de principio a fin.
The series is fantastic because it showcases the idiosyncrasies of South Koreans, how their institutions function, and their people, but it also shows us the North's side, with its historical conflict between the two countries. It even delves into the training camps for North Korean agents, complete with the torture and abuse that takes place there. The series makes this perspective very clear, it must be said. As for the characters and their performances, there's something about Koreans that's their passionate delivery. They're truly excellent actors. Nothing negative to say; everyone was outstanding in their roles. In short, a super complete series that has EVERYTHING; it's impossible to get bored with something like this. There are many plot twists, which is incredibly entertaining because you should never take anything for granted—keep that in mind, it happens quite a lot in this series. La serie es muy top porque muestra como es la idiosincrasia del surcoreano, como funcionan sus instituciones, su gente pero también nos enseña la parte del norte con ese conflicto histórico que hay entre los dos países; incluso se adentra en los campos de entrenamiento para la formación de los agentes de Corea del Norte con todo y la tortura y vejaciones que se vive allí dentro. La serie deja bien claro esta postura, hay que decirlo. En cuanto a los personajes y sus actuaciones hay algo que tienen los coreanos y es que son muy pasionales cuando hablan e interpretan. Son muy buenos actores la verdad. Nada negativo que decir, todos en su papeles estuvieron a la altura. En fin, una serie super completa que tiene de TODO, es imposible aburrirse con algo así. Hay muchos plot twist cosa que es súper entretenido porque nunca hay que dar nada por sentado, esto tómenlo en cuenta, en esta serie pasa bastante.
