Había escuchado de esta película pero no había tenido la oportunidad de verla hasta recién ayer porque honestamente no sabía con lo que me iba a esperar, obviamente tenía conocimiento que era una especie de terror pero ya ustedes acá saben lo que pensamos de este género. Para los que no lo saben, que pienso? - pues que a pesar de ser de mis géneros favoritos estoy consiente de que es uno de los más complicados de lograr y es que de una buena película a un chiste hay solo un paso de distancia.

I had heard about this movie but I hadn't had the chance to see it until yesterday because I honestly didn't know what to expect, obviously I knew it was a kind of horror but you guys here already know what we think of this genre. For those who don't know, what do I think? - Well, despite being one of my favorite genres, I am aware that it is one of the most complicated to achieve, and from a good movie to a joke is only a step away.

"Last night in Soho" llega como una película de terror psicológico en donde la mayoría de las cosas que suceden por lo general terminan siendo un tormento para nuestra protagonista ya que no es capaz de hacerles frente precisamente por eso, porque son acciones que difícilmente no se pueden explicar sin que la gente la llamen "loca". Un thriller que en lo personal me gustó y me sorprendió bastante bien sea por la calidad de sus dos protagonistas, por su ambientación y por ese toque de suspenso que siempre estuvo en la película. Sin más, hablemos un poco más de ella...

"Last night in Soho" comes as a psychological horror film where most of the things that happen usually end up being a torment for our protagonist since she is not able to cope with them precisely because of that, because they are actions that can hardly be explained without people calling her "crazy". A thriller that I personally liked and I was quite surprised either by the quality of its two protagonists, for its setting and for that touch of suspense that was always in the film. Esta es la historia de la joven Eloise Turner (Thomasin McKenzie) quien está aspirando estudiar diseño de moda en la ciudad de Londres, llena de sueños consigue la oportunidad y se dirige hacia allá sin saber el terror que le va a tocar vivir en los próximos días. "Ellie" aparentemente tiene la habilidad de ver y presenciar cosas que otras personas no pueden y esto será el elemento diferenciador en su aventura en el barrio londinense de Soho.

This is the story of young Eloise Turner (Thomasin McKenzie) who is aspiring to study fashion design in the city of London, full of dreams she gets the opportunity and heads there without knowing the terror she is going to live in the coming days. "Ellie" apparently has the ability to see and witness things that other people cannot and this will be the differentiating element in her adventure in the London neighborhood of Soho.

Parte de esas habilidades o capacidades está la de viajar en el tiempo lo cual hace y llega a la década de los sesenta, casualmente su época favorita, consiguiéndose con una de sus cantantes favoritas de siempre. Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) es esta cantante quien todavía no era famosa la cual tenía una vida bastante turbia y complicada, una vida que muy pronto Ellie tendría el chance de conocer de primera mano.

Part of those skills or abilities is that of time travel which she does and arrives in the sixties, coincidentally her favorite era, meeting one of her all-time favorite singers. Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) is this singer who was not yet famous and who had a rather shady and complicated life, a life that Ellie would soon have the chance to get to know firsthand.

Todo cambia cuando nuestra estudiante de moda se da cuenta que no todo lo que brilla es oro y que la vida en Londres en aquellos tiempos eran bastante duros y diferentes a lo que ella se imaginaba, vería que ser famosa era algo efímero y que dicha fama conllevaba pagar un altísimo precio. Como una adicción quiso seguir haciendo estos "viajes" sin saber que en un futuro muy próximo tendría consecuencias escalofriantes y oscuras lo que terminaría afectando su vida en el presente.

Everything changes when our fashion student realizes that not all that glitters is gold and that life in London in those times was quite hard and different from what she imagined, she would see that being famous was something ephemeral and that such fame entailed paying a very high price. Like an addiction, she wanted to continue making these "trips" without knowing that in the very near future it would have chilling and dark consequences that would end up affecting her life in the present.

Cuando digo que esta película es un terror psicológico es porque realmente lo es, la manera como juega con tu mente y te mantiene sentado frente a la pantalla es algo que no se puede negar. Es ese terror que siempre lo estás esperando, en cada escena, en cada rincón pero que solo aparece cuando no lo ves venir, así es este film. Hablando de escenas le reconozco que la puesta de muchas de ellas es impecable, la ambientación en los 60 es un plus que le da mucho más carácter y la secuencias del terror son de gran nivel.

When I say that this film is a psychological horror is because it really is, the way it plays with your mind and keeps you sitting in front of the screen is something that cannot be denied. It is that terror that you are always waiting for it, in every scene, in every corner but that only appears when you don't see it coming, that's how this film is. Speaking of scenes, I recognize that the setting of many of them is impeccable, the setting in the 60's is a plus that gives it much more character and the horror sequences are of great level.

Si me preguntan si es una película de fantasmas la verdad no les sabría decir, puede que si, puede que no; es rara porque hacen alusión a los problemas mentales entonces habrán personas que acrediten lo que sucede a eso. Hay Gore? - lo hay, muy cuidado y donde tiene que estar para que la cinta no termine siendo un baño de sangre más.

If you ask me if it's a ghost movie I wouldn't really know, maybe yes, maybe no; it's weird because it alludes to mental problems so there will be people who will credit what happens to that. Is there Gore? - There is, very carefully and where it has to be so that the film doesn't end up being just another bloodbath.

De igual manera hay que decir que es una historia en donde podemos entender que tan difícil puede ser para una mujer escalar en este mundo del espectáculo gracias al desafortunado machismo que hubo y que hoy en día sigue existiendo. Cuando vean la película sabrán que son cosas que no deberían de pasar pero que siguen sucediendo y creo que esta película es una buena forma de abrir un poco más los ojos y la mente de las personas.

It is also a story where we can understand how difficult it can be for a woman to climb the ladder in this world of show business thanks to the unfortunate machismo that existed and still exists today. When you see the film you will know that these are things that should not happen but that continue to happen and I think this film is a good way to open people's eyes and minds a little more.

En cuanto a las protagonistas no pudieron escoger a dos mejores actrices en pleno ascenso como lo son Thomasin y Anya. La primera me llamó mucho la atención porque en sus escenas más top era muy fácil echarlo a perder y la verdad es que la solvencia y la interpretación para el terror es algo que hay valorar mucho aquí. Y con Anya bueno, ya sabemos la calidad de actriz que es, lo demostró en The Queen's Gambit, y acá la vemos en otra facetas, ya sea bailando, cantando y sufriendo. Muy solida como siempre, tener a Anya en un proyecto es sinónimo de calidad y garantía.

As for the protagonists, they could not choose two better actresses in full ascent as they are Thomasin and Anya. The first one caught my attention because in her top scenes it was very easy to spoil it and the truth is that the solvency and interpretation for horror is something to value a lot here. And with Anya, well, we already know the quality of actress she is, she proved it in The Queen's Gambit, and here we see her in other facets, either dancing, singing and suffering. Very solid as always, having Anya in a project is synonymous of quality and guarantee.

En fin, en mi opinión una muy buena película que no esperaba que me fuera a gustar tanto. Es un terror diferente al que estamos acostumbrados a ver porque la historia es novedosa también, una historia que te mantiene alerta y al vilo de que será lo próximo que suceda. Interpretaciones de 10, buena fotografía y sobretodo buenos "plot twist", esto último es algo que cuando vean el film se van a dar cuenta el valor agregado que le otorga a este titulo.

Anyway, in my opinion a very good movie that I didn't expect to like so much. It is a different horror to what we are used to see because the story is also new, a story that keeps you alert and on the edge of your seat to see what will happen next. Performances of 10, good photography and above all good "plot twist", the latter is something that when you see the film you will realize the added value that gives this title.

Un merecido 8/10 porque con el terror nunca se sabe pero acá no tengo mucho de que quejarme. El final? - puede ser pero tampoco fue algo que me molestó demasiado. Una película que dura 2 horas aproximadamente de las cuales no tendrá tiempo para dejar sus muebles o sillones. Como siempre les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un ojo y se animen a verla.

A well-deserved 8/10 because with horror you never know but here I don't have much to complain about. The ending? - maybe but it wasn't something that bothered me too much. A movie that lasts about 2 hours of which you won't have time to leave your furniture or armchairs. As always I leave you with the trailer so you can take a look at it and go see it.
