Having to wait two years to see the continuation of this transformation, while simultaneously witnessing the story's conclusion, is a long time, but that's how it is. This third season arrived with some doubts after a weak second installment that, personally, I didn't particularly enjoy. It's incredible what this universe evokes in fans; after eight seasons of Game of Thrones, three of this one, and one of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it's safe to say that the loyalty and enjoyment remain intact. The quality has also always been there, albeit with its ups and downs. The thing is, this season finale, in my opinion, was quite good, and it was pretty much what we were expecting to happen. We knew it, obviously, but we had to see it.
Tener que esperar dos años para ver la continuación de esta transformación al mismo tiempo que el desenlace de la historia es mucho pero es lo que toca. Esta tercera temporada llegaba con un poco de dudas después de una floja segunda entrega que en lo personal no me gustó mucho que digamos. Es increíble lo que despierta este universo en los fanáticos, después de las 8 temporadas de Game Of Thrones, tres de esta y una de El caballero de los Siete Reinos se puede decir que la fidelidad y el gusto se mantienen intactos. La calidad también diría que siempre ha estado aunque con sus altibajos. La cosa es que este final de temporada, en mi opinión, fue bastante bueno y era un poco lo que estábamos esperando que pasara, lo sabíamos obviamente pero había que verlo.
This season essentially depicts the definitive collapse of House Targaryen following Aemond's actions against his brother, King Aegon. Simultaneously, Rhaenyra is secretly negotiating her ascension to the throne with the help of Alicent, Queen Hightower. From this point, events unfold such as Aegon's escape (burned and wounded) when he feels threatened, Aemond's brief but ultimately unfulfilled claim to the throne after being deceived by his own mother, and Rhaenyra's exploitation of the situation to seize King's Landing and, consequently, the position of queen. It was a season without any truly bad episodes; perhaps a few were a bit slow, with little happening, but none were truly bad. In fact, in terms of quality, this third season is very close to that first installment.
En esta temporada básicamente lo que vemos es el quiebre definitivo de la casa Targaryen después de los actos de Aemond contra su hermano, el rey Aegon. En paralelo tenemos a una Rhaenyra buscando un poco por debajo de la mesa negociar su llegada al trono con la ayuda de Alicent, la reina Hightower. A partir de acá suceden cosas como el hecho de que Aegon (quemado y herido) escapa al sentirse amenazado, Aemond asume el trono pero por poco tiempo después del engaño de su propia madre y Rhaenyra aprovecha todo esto para tomar King's Landing y por tanto el puesto de reina. Fue una temporada que no tuvo capítulos malos, quizás algunos fueron un poco lentos en los que no pasaba nada, pero nunca malos. De hecho, en cuanto a calidad esta tercera está muy cerca de aquella primera entrega.
What I want to focus on today is Rhaenyra's metamorphosis during the season's eight episodes. One of the most troubling aspects was her timid attitude toward the circumstances she faced as queen; it was a kind of inability to handle even the simplest task or eventuality. But of course, this is understandable because her role model was her father, Viserys, a peaceful king who never wanted dragons. He ruled justly, always appealing to peace; that's what Rhaenyra sought to emulate, but times were different. She had six dragons, and she was a woman. Little by little, we saw how she always tried to be fair, never wanting conflict. Patience was something she sometimes lacked, and all of this meant that circumstances often overwhelmed her, and she always took refuge behind Daemon, her brother.
En lo que me quiero enfocar hoy es en la metamorfosis de Rhaenyra durante los 8 capítulos de la temporada. De las cosas que más estaban molestando era la actitud pusilánime de ella ante las circunstancias que estaba viviendo como reina, era una especie de incapacidad para resolver hasta la más simple tarea o eventualidad. Pero claro, esto se entiende porque la referencia que ella tenía era su padre Viserys, un rey pacifico que nunca quiso dragones. Él gobernó de una manera justa apelando siempre a la paz; eso era lo que buscaba emular Rhaenyra pero los tiempos eran otros, ella tenía como 6 dragones además de ser mujer. Poco a poco fuimos viendo como ella siempre trató de ser justa, nunca quiso el conflicto, la paciencia era algo que a veces le sobraba y todo esto hacía que muchas veces las propias circunstancias la sobrepasaran escudándose siempre en Daemon, su hermano.
This change in her was carefully crafted, carefully executed, giving her reasons to radicalize and transform into the ruthless and harsh queen we saw in the final episode. Something that caught my attention was a scene where she addresses the people: she does so surrounded by soldiers and escorts, wearing her crown and armor. Earlier this season, she did the same thing, but that time alone, without any trappings, and much warmer and more approachable. This simple change perfectly exemplifies her transformation. She couldn't remain so soft and weepy, because yes, she cried more than usual this season, despite having a considerable number of dragons at her disposal. Fortunately, cruelty and coldness finally took hold, allowing her to rule as she was meant to from the beginning. I applaud this because it provided a spectacular ending to the season, leaving us eager to see more.
Este cambio en ella lo cocinaron lento, lo hicieron bien, le dieron motivos para que ella se radicalizara y se tornara en esa reina despiadada y dura que vimos en el último capitulo. Algo que me llamó la atención es que hay una escena en donde ella sale a hablarle a la gente: lo hace rodeada de soldados, escoltas, con la corona y una armadura. En esta misma temporada hizo lo mismo pero aquella vez los hizo sola, sin ornamentos y siendo mucho más cálida y cercana a las personas. Este simple cambio es el mejor ejemplo de dicha transformación. No se podía ser tan blanda y llorona, porque si, lloró más de la cuenta en esta temporada, teniendo una cantidad considerable de dragones a su disposición. Afortunadamente la crueldad y frialdad llegaron y se posaron en ella para gobernar como se suponía tenía que haberlo hecho desde un principio. Aplaudo esto porque le dio un cierre espectacular a la temporada, nos dejó queriendo realmente seguir viendo.
If we take a broad look, this season was incredible in terms of the appearance of dragons, known as the Dance of the Dragons. We had two major battles, a naval one at the beginning (which was truly spectacular) and the Battle of Tumbleton at the end. In between, we saw characters like Ormund Hightower play a significant role in the plot, and the other one I want to highlight is Aegon. I think he's the character, besides Rhaenyra, who had the best development throughout the story. Furthermore, if we add what we saw in the finale with his brother, who proved he was never ready for the throne, we can anticipate that what's coming in the fourth and final season will be epic. The addition of new riders was also very cool to see; one of them is even vital in this last episode. There were many family conflicts among all these Targaryens. In short, a very complete season that knew how to end perfectly.
Si hacemos un repaso muy general esta temporada fue increíble en cuanto a la aparición de dragones, conocida como la Danza de los Dragones. Tuvimos dos grandes batallas, una naval al principio (la cual fue realmente espectacular) y la batalla de Tumbleton del final. En medio vimos personajes como Ormund Hightower desempeñar un gran papel y rol en la trama y al otro que destaco es a Aegon. Creo que es el personaje, además de Rhaenyra, que mejor desarrollo tuvo a lo largo de la historia. Además, si le sumamos lo visto en el cierre junto a su hermano, quien demostró nunca haber estar preparado para el trono, podemos intuir que lo que se viene para la cuarta y última temporada será épico. La incorporación de nuevos jinetes también fue algo muy cool que ver, incluso uno de ellos es vital en este último episodio; muchos conflictos familiares entre todos estos Targaryien, en fin, una temporada sumamente completa y que supo como cerrar correctamente.
If you haven't seen it yet because you were disappointed with the second season, I highly recommend you sit down and watch this because it's truly worth it. It has everything: plenty of surprises, lots of deaths and blood, and significant plot and character development. Finally, it's safe to say that the Game of Thrones universe is back and very much alive thanks to the evil and darkness of Queen Rhaenyra. I've included the trailer below.
Su aún no la ves porque quedaste decepcionado con la segunda temporada te recomiendo que te sientes a ver a esto porque de verdad vale mucho la pena. Hay de todo, hay muchas sorpresas, muchas muertes y sangre y mucho desarrollo de trama y de personajes. Al fin se puede decir que el universo de GOT ha vuelto y está muy vivo gracias a la maldad y oscuridad de la reina Rhaenyra. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.
