Greetings Moviesonhive friends! Last weekend looking around for a movie to watch, I found that a friend of mine, an anesthesiologist, was recommending this movie with great emphasis and without thinking too much I decided to watch it thinking about trying to understand why she liked it so much, although I'm still thinking about it a little bit and I'll tell you why...

The film itself is about 2 nurses, a man and a woman, both dedicated to the same professions, kind as nurses by vocation usually are, with a lot of work to do, many hands in their lives and in parallel a private life, lives that, unlike their work, are quite different from each other.

Suddenly in their workplace begin to occur "apparently" unexplained deaths, something they must investigate within the health center where they work, finally finding lurid details that little by little with their help, indirectly and directly, will come to light. What are these details? What help do they provide? What is the cause of the deaths? I invite you to watch the film to find out...

Picsart_22-06-20_21-31-32-996.png

The fact that the culpability of the murderer or murderers who caused the deaths, leaves the entire functioning of the US healthcare system and the need to reform many, many things in it visible.

It is a direct criticism of a fatal mistake made (and probably still being made) by several of these institutions and whose directors acted in exactly the same way, covering up absolutely all the events! so that no legal action would be taken against them and where a great, but great! number of patients died for the same reason (not exactly natural causes), a complete negligence on the part of these institutions!

In addition to the above, it calls into question the ability of the directors of these institutions to know what their duty really is, which obviously should be to provide a service for the health of others, a principle that should prevail over any aspect, especially the economic one.

This is sadly what happens not only in the USA but in many other countries where semi-private or private medicine is practiced, where if you do not have medical insurance basically your life has no value when you come to an emergency and need hospitalization.

With all of the above, they show how the health system has so many flaws, even when they have the latest technology, the best laboratories, the largest amount of supplies and perfect infrastructure, because they do not emphasize the main factor, which is the ease with which unscrupulous people can enter these institutions and they do not realize it because they do not make the proper evaluation of everyone who works there and they do not adequately restrict access to outsiders who are not part of the institution.

I must say that when I started watching this movie I already liked it from the beginning and I just saw Jessica Chastain and Eddie Miray in that poster, I already knew I was going to see something I liked because I love the actors, plus it was a hospital drama based on real events, how could I not like it? It was almost impossible, it had a lot of chips for me to love it, but sadly it didn't quite work out that way.

Throughout the entire movie we are shown the entire life of one of the main characters so that we empathize with him, they make us focus on his life and the details to justify why he acts the way he does, however, with the other character they don't.

The reason for this is because the movie is based on a real event and the person who narrated the facts to create the script is one of those characters, but of the other "apparently" we know almost nothing and it is very evident that the whole vision of the film is based solely on what is narrated by that person; which is fine, no way! it is a film based on real events and you can not put facts that you do not have enough evidence, however, I feel that they could have developed the plot better.

For me they were very simplistic when it came to show what they should show, we all expected them to show a specific fact that would be the proof of what was really the causes of the deaths, but the scene never came, well, it did come, but the scene was not worth the expectation.

Ok there are movies that are not so evident in the plot, but at least they give you a hint about the moments and this one didn't do it at all, you just have to assume that what happens is what happens because The culprit or culprits themselves tell you so, but come on! they could have given a little more suspense to the plot and reasons to hate the killer or killers.

Picsart_22-06-20_22-02-40-329.png

¡Obviamente no!

The film is so lacking in what should be the central idea (which is to expose the culprit of the large number of deaths in health centers) that it almost doesn't even focus on making us feel sorry for the people who die, and less that we have clues as to why the accused did the things he did, and therefore we don't even have enough anger towards him.

I feel that they should have delved more into the past of the characters in order to have more understanding of the movie and if they didn't have enough information, it was better that they didn't do it yet, or at least I think that the point they did want to develop which was to make it clear that the health system failed, they could have done it better, sorry, but that's how I saw it.

They only try to make us empathize with the person or persons who helped to capture the culprit, to make us feel sorry for that person or persons, but in a way I feel that they make us feel sorry for the murderer as well by not making clear all the background behind his actions and not even showing him committing the acts, that's why I would have preferred them to make the movie when there were more investigations, if there are not yet and they wanted to stick to reality, I don't know.

In the end we ended up just blaming the health system as indirectly responsible for those 400+ deaths (which they think was the amount caused in real life) which is VERY true, but come on! We should end up hating the direct culprit(s) as well and we don't because the message is ambiguous and we may even end up, in a way, feeling sorry for the culprit(s), as if it was the health system that created them and not because they meant them harm, please! 400+ deaths! Was it really only the system's fault? Obviously not! There is a serial killer or killers here who, coupled with the VERY terrible health care system, took advantage of it to commit their macabre schemes.

He is a very kind nurse, willing to help others, Charlie is one of those friends we all wish we had in our workplaces because they are always there to help you, do shift changes with you, help you even at home, he is one of those friends like few others, who really like to help.

Actuaciones

Performances.

There is not much to say here I must say that both performances were stellar, wonderful! Superior! as expected for the great actors they are, they transmitted everything that was expected of them according to the script, but this film is an example of how only performances can not be everything in a film when they do not give us a good direction and relevant sequence of events that keep the viewer interested, sorry Jessica and Eddie! but I saw it that way although I am clear that it was not their fault but I still love them.

PUEDE TENER SPOILERS | MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

  • Ambiguity in the message.

Maybe not everyone who watches the movie is going to notice this, but I must say the following: we are talking about a story based on true events, so I assume that what is told here was true, it's not like I can't focus on the details, try to analyze how all this was uncovered and just focus on letting myself go like any other film.

There is something that caught my attention, there are few deaths that are presented in the film, only 2 in fact (as if that was not important to present and worth more scenes) the thing is that the disease they chose to show that they did not have to end in death and that something strange was happening in the institution was not the best at all, because they chose a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic and the patient died.

I mean, among more than 400 deaths, did they really discover everything for a disease that has such a high probability of death? Steven Johnson syndrome and, perhaps, toxic epidermal necrosis, which are the probable syndromes that this patient had, have a very high probability of death, plus the fact that she is an older adult, so you have to triple that probability.

But not only that is the strange thing, but a person between 65-80 years old (which is the age I assume this person must be) had a severe allergic reaction to Amoxicillin at that age? I mean, researchers or staff who worked to create this movie: are you really telling me that this lady, in approximately 70 years of life, never took a penicillin derivative?

Because if she is allergic to amoxicillin, she is allergic to the whole penicillin family, and that is one of the most widely used antibiotics worldwide, did she really never use any of the antibiotics of that family in 70 years? I do not know, I do not deny that it could happen, but the probability must be 0.01%.

If it wasn't that disease that uncovered the whole plot in real life and it was just selected by the director, did they really choose a disease where the killer's evil would be more clearly evidenced, did they choose one where the killer might act more like a "good samaritan" and just expedite the VERY likely demise?

Ok maybe they were trying to confuse the viewer with all of the above, I accept that, but are you seriously only going to present two deaths out of 400+ and one is that one is where it's perceived that it was better for that person to stop suffering quickly and pass away? I don't know, I'm confused with the messages they wanted to give about the killer throughout the film and, in fact, I'm confused about the veracity of this narrated story, if it's 100% the real one.

  • Inconsistencies in the story.

How is it that detectives go to a hospital to investigate and don't take a medical examiner with them and just rely on what they are told there about lab results of dead patients without even knowing what those results mean, or absolutely nothing about diseases? If they had not found among the witnesses someone who could interpret the results as they should, would they never have continued with the investigation? It's strange! ok maybe they need a court order to take the forensic doctor, but then the error is not only of the health system, is that the police and judicial system does not work either, however, in the film they wanted to put the detectives as part of the heroes of the story, those who suspected and emphasized to investigate, but in my opinion it was not so, it was simply pure luck if we analyze it coldly.

  • Romanticize the murderer or murderers.

I felt that way, I felt that they never really wanted us to hate one of the biggest murderer or murderers the USA has ever had, but mainly to see the good intentions of that person, in fact, in the whole film we only see a glimpse of aggressiveness in a single micro scene where they only hit a table, just that and nothing more.

The rest of the film only shows us good intentions, nice words, sensitivity, empathy, concern for the other, physical and spiritual beauty, a total dream that or those murderers! please, what madness is this?

If I put myself for a moment in the place of a family member of one of the victims I would really feel outraged, because basically you end the movie confused not knowing whether to love or hate the murderer or murderers for what they did, I really felt that way!

Picsart_22-07-15_03-31-05-472.png

Did I like the movie? I would really like to say that the performances of those 2 great actors and the real story on which it was based was enough for me to like it, but no, if I make a sum of good and bad, I feel that they could have done more for this story, draw more attention to all that is done wrong in the health system, and the reality of these more than 400 deaths of innocents, but they spent too much time on scenes that did not deserve it on the relationship between 2 characters.

Would I recommend it? Totally! Everyone needs to see this movie, to remind them that there can be an undercover killer anywhere and they shouldn't trust everyone who looks "good" and especially in the health care system you have to be very, very careful.

Would I see her again? Totally! Maybe I was too hard on it, I don't know, I'll watch it again to find out, maybe last week's stress caused by very evil people around me affected my perception of this movie, but I feel they could have done a much better job with those two wonderful actors and that terrible real life event.

I love the character of the good nurse woman in this movie. She probably loves the man, but she is tough and always do the right thing. In the end, I am glad she continues to live at her old age and even have the chance to see her grandkids despite of her heart condition.

Alucinaras. XD
