Though curiosity is a good trait, being curious doesn’t always lead to a good outcome. And that is why, there’s a phrase “ Curiosity killed the cat”. It serves as a warning not to be nosy about other’s life or in short, “mind your own business”.
However, there are curious people out there who find satisfaction when they are able to solve things that they deem mystery. The problem comes when they can’t stay shut about it. That is the premise of a new Korean series titled “ The Killer’s Shopping List”.

Taking place at a grocery store, a young Dae-sung is an attentive and smart kid. He is also the son of the grocery store owner. One day, a man visited their store and Dae-sung recognized that the man was paying with a counterfeit bill. Dae-sung and his mom, Myung-sook immediately tried to stop the man from walking away. In the end, the police caught the counterfeiter and Dae-sung received an award and their store became well-known in the neighborhood. Fast forward during his teens, Cheon-won, who was the man paying them with counterfeit bills, came back to the store and threatened Dae-sung’s mom. In a fierce fight, Dae-sung ended up throwing a canned peach that hit Cheon-won’s head and leaving him bleeding and almost passing away.
But cheon-won managed to survive at the cost of Dae-sung having PTSD and anxiety from that event. Not to mention, a grown up Dae-sung couldn’t pass any exam even the easiest government exam. To think that he was smart, it was almost impossible but later on in the series that aired every Thursday and Friday, it is slowly revealed that his anxiety is the reason he couldn’t pass the exams. Similarly as when he was a kid, Dae-sung is now faced with a serial killer that is going on around his neighborhood. The killer is possibly one of the grocery store members which now becomes MS mart.
Will Dae-sung, his mom and his girlfriend be able to uncover the mystery of the serial killer?
Starring Lee Kwang Soo, famous for running man series, this is the first series that he did where he is the main character. From many k-dramas that I watched, he mostly plays the supporting roles and the funny character in the drama. And in this drama, not far from his known character, he is comedic yet serious at the same time. It’s almost quite odd to see Kwang Soo becoming the center of the story and having a gf instead of his usual drama.
Can you predict the killer?
When it comes to the story, I applaud the writer for keeping me hooked and waiting for the next episode to air. I thought the killer was apparent because of the similarity of items purchased in the store and their suspicious move. But I was wrong.
The killer could be anyone and you can not trust the characters in the drama. Additionally, the drama is also bringing an interesting phenomenon about being trans. One character in the mart identifies as transgender(from a man to a woman) and this person mentioned about her journey becoming a trans. She mentioned that she was exiled by her family and was considered mentally ill. After watching so many k-dramas, these days the drama is quite progressive and trying to portray more progressive topics such as LGBTQ, abortion, transgender. Including this one, The Killer's Shopping list.
You can find this drama on most streaming sites including VIU(where I watch this drama). Dramas that are currently airing are always on premium subscription. In the end, it’s worth it because you get to watch it before anyone else does. I also can not give too much of the screenshot because of VIU policy. So the screenshots above are only the main page not the content of the drama.
