Hello, how are you? I hope you had a great holiday season, and I also hope this new year is filled with lots of success for all of us on and off this beautiful platform. Today I want to share with you the review of a movie I saw during the holidays, it's Disney Pixar's Red.
Hola ¿cómo están? Espero que hayan tenido unas grandiosas vacaciones, y también espero que este nuevo año esté lleno de mucho éxito para todos nosotros dentro y fuera de esta hermosa plataforma. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes la review de una película que vi durante las vacaciones, se trata de Red de Disney Pixar.
First of all let me give you a brief overview of the film, "Turning Red" tells us about the life of a girl of Chinese origin who has to deal with a particular problem, it is a kind of "curse" that the women in her family have to deal with, and that is that each one of them has a red panda inside her, which emerges when her emotions are exalted in some way. Mei has always been a child repressed by her overprotective mother, something that bothers her a lot, so instead of calming down, her emotions sometimes get a little out of control.
En primer lugar déjenme hacer un breve resumen sobre la película, Turning Red nos cuenta la vida de una chica de origen chino la cual tiene que lidiar con un particular problema, se trata de una especie de "maldición" con la que tienen que lidiar las mujeres de su familia, y es que cada una de ellas guarda un panda rojo en su interior, que emerge cuando sus emociones se exaltan de alguna manera. Mei siempre ha sido una niña reprimida por su madre que es muy sobreprotectora, algo que la molesta mucho, así que sus emociones en lugar de calmarse, a veces se salen un poco de control.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
One of the things I loved about this movie is the fact that it's set in 2002, so I feel identified with my adolescence, it was the time when I used to read and collect the magazine "Tú" ("You" in English) and it was considered the best magazine for teenagers at that time, I would get together with my friends or my cousins and we would sing the Backstreet Boys songs while dreaming that we were going to one of their concerts, I remember I was dying for Brian 😆 so how could I not feel identified with this film?
Una de las cosas que amé de esta película es el hecho de que está ambientada en el 2002, así que me siento identificada con mi adolescencia, era la época en la que yo leía y coleccionaba la revista "Tú", y era considerada la mejor revista para adolescentes en ese tiempo, me reunía con mis amigas o mis primas y cantábamos las canciones de los Backstreet Boys mientras soñábamos que íbamos a uno de sus conciertos, recuerdo que yo moría por Brian 😆 así que ¿cómo no podría sentirme identificada con este film?
But "Tuning Red" not only talks about the cool stage of puberty, it also talks about something that somehow can be a little traumatic for girls at that age and that is nothing more than their first menstruation, I know it may seem silly but all women know that no matter how much preparation there is beforehand, for any girl her first menstruation was like a big red monster that came to mortify her life and turn it upside down, to top it all and as if it wasn't enough with the emotional changes due to age, that "red monster" intensifies our emotions even more, making us incomprehensible to the eyes of others, with time you learn to understand that "red monster", to feel it part of you and evidently you also learn to live with it.
Pero "Tuning Red" no solo nos habla de la etapa cool de la pubertad, sino que también nos habla matafóricamente de algo que de alguna manera puede resultar un poco traumático para las chicas en esa edad y que no es más que su primera menstruación, sé que puede parecer tonto pero todas las mujeres sabemos que por más que haya preparación de antemano, para cualquier chica su primera menstruación fue como un gran monstruo rojo que vino a mortificar su vida y a ponerla de cabeza, para colmo y como si no fuese suficiente con los cambios emocionales a causa de la edad, ese "Monstruo rojo" intensifica aún más nuestras emociones, volviéndonos incomprensibles a los ojos de los demás, con el tiempo aprendes a comprender a ese "monstruo rojo", a sentirlo parte de ti y evidentemente también aprendes a convivir con él.
Fortunately I was not a girl repressed by my parents, I mean, obviously I had my limits, but my parents were not breathing down my neck watching my every step or controlling my every little thing, as Mei's mother did, she exaggerated in her care, leaving little or no space for her daughter, misinterpreting everything she did and even blaming everyone for everything, to the point of making serious accusations. I think this film can also become a mirror in which not only children can see themselves reflected, but also parents, puberty and adolescence are difficult times for both parents and children.
Afortunadamente yo no fui una chica reprimida por mis padres, es decir, obviamente tenía mis límites, pero mis padres no estaban respirándome en la nuca vigilando mis pasos o controlando hasta lo más mínimo, como sí hacía la madre de Mei, ella exageraba en sus cuidados, dejándole poca o nada de espacio a su hija, malinterpretando todo lo que hacía e incluso culpando a todo el mundo por todo, para colmo llegando a hacer acusaciones graves. Creo que esta película también puede llegar a ser un espejo en el que no solo los hijos se pueden ver reflejados, sino también los padres, la pubertad y adolescencia son etapas difíciles tanto para los padres como para los hijos.
It only remains for me to say that I don't consider "Turning Red" as the best animated film in the world, but it is a very good metaphor that can help us adults to reconnect with our past emotions in order to understand the teenagers of today, and it can help them to better understand what is happening with them. Solo me queda despedirme diciendo que no considero a "Turning Red" como la mejor película animada del mundo, pero sí es una muy buena metáfora que nos puede ayudar a los adultos a reconectarnos con nuestras emociones del pasado para poder entender a los adolescentes de ahora, y a ellos les puede ayudar a comprender mejor lo que sucede con ellos.
