Crash Landing On You - Serie Review [ENG-DUTCH]

Review by @meraki7578 πŸ†#16 πŸ”₯30 🎡3.8k 🎬4 πŸ“Ί1 Β· 1d Β· of Crash Landing on You Β· 5 views

This post was originally written in Dutch.

You’ll find the original Dutch version below. πŸ‘‡

The English translation was produced using the free version of DeepL.com. 😊

Crash Landing on You is essentially about just two people.

Yoon Se-ri, a wealthy heiress and businesswoman from South Korea, excels in her ventures.

And Ri Jeong-hyeok, an officer in the North Korean army, comes across as tough and strict at first.

When Yoon Se-ri decides to go paragliding, she suddenly finds herself in trouble.

A strong gust of wind blows her paraglider into North Korean territory.

And forces her to land there.

After landing, she meets Ri Jeong-hyeok.

Of course, it wasn’t exactly a warm welcome at first, but he nevertheless decides to help her return to South Korea.

And, as you might expect, that doesn’t exactly go smoothly.

As they work together to navigate the countless bumps and obstacles in order to get Yoon Se-ri home safely, an unexpected spark ignites between Yoon Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok.

A love that really shouldn’t happen at all.

Two worlds that can’t coexist – or can they?

Crash Landing on You was quite a special series for me.

Not just because I really enjoyed the story, but mainly because it was my first Korean series.

I actually had no idea what I was getting myself into.

K-dramas were completely new to me.

I wasn’t used to watching a series in Korean and having to rely entirely on subtitles.

The way the story was told also felt different from what I was used to at first.

So it took me a while to get used to it.

But in the end… I was hooked.

What started as β€œI’ll just give a Korean series a go” ended up being sixteen episodes where I kept thinking: ahh… just one more.

And before I knew it, it was far too late to go to bed.

What I particularly liked was the combination of romance, humour, drama and suspense.

The series doesn’t take itself too seriously all the time, and that’s precisely why there are so many funny moments in it.

I particularly loved the group of North Korean soldiers surrounding Jeong-hyeok.

They provide a huge amount of humour whilst also giving the series a warm feel.

But of course, ultimately it’s all about Se-ri and Jeong-hyeok.

I found their relationship a joy to follow.

It certainly wasn’t love at first sight, and that’s what made it so enjoyable – yet also frustrating – to watch.

Slowly, very, very slowly, they grow closer to one another, and more and more little moments show just how much they’ll come to mean to each other.

A glance.

A small gesture.

Protecting someone.

Being there without needing to say a word.

It was precisely those little things that I perhaps found most beautiful about their relationship.

And of course, there are also moments when, as a viewer, you think: just say it to each other already!

But perhaps that’s precisely part of the charm.

I also found the extra layer to the story very interesting – the fact that the main characters come from North and South Korea.

It made their love seem even more impossible.

Of course, you shouldn’t watch Crash Landing on You as if it were a documentary about North Korea. It’s still fiction.

But the differences between the two worlds do play an important role in the story.

And then there are the other characters.

I actually ended up liking some of them almost as much as the main characters.

Friendships, loyalty and relationships develop that make the story so much more than just a romantic tale.

The humour also came at exactly the right moment for me.

Because although the series is incredibly romantic and at times quite emotional, thankfully you don’t have to spend all sixteen episodes sitting on the sofa with a box of tissues.

But believe me…

Those tissues might still come in handy at times.

There are some pretty emotional moments in there, after all.

Moments when you really empathise with the characters and when the series manages to move you unexpectedly.

And yes… sometimes it’s all rather implausible.

Some situations are so coincidental or so dramatic that for a moment you think: surely this can’t be real?

But to be honest, I eventually just started to accept it.

Because once you’re fully immersed in the story, it doesn’t really matter that much anymore.

You just want to know what happens next.

What I perhaps like most about Crash Landing on You is the effect this series ultimately had on me.

It was, in fact, my first introduction to K-dramas.

And I really hadn’t expected beforehand that I’d enjoy it this much.

I started out with quite a few doubts and really had to get used to the language, the subtitles and the storytelling style at first.

But eventually I discovered that there’s a whole world of Korean series out there.

And apparently, I’ve become quite curious about them now.

So actually, Crash Landing on You isn’t just a series I enjoyed…

It was the start of something new.

And that’s perhaps what I love most about films and series: sometimes, completely out of the blue, you discover something you’d never have thought would suit you.

Original Dutch Version:

Crash Landing on You gaat in principe maar over twee personen.

Ik moest dus even wennen.

Maar geloof me...

I guess you are lucky your first Korean series was intresting... I never got that privillaged, I guess that is why I can not be a die hard fan and I'm suspecting Korean series might have just bagged a fan... The series actually looks intresting.
