Hello film and TV-loving friends. I hope you are doing very well and having a great day. I recently saw a TikTok video about the movie Finding Emily. I loved what I saw and was very curious to see how this very British romantic comedy story would unfold. I was really impressed by how much it reminded me of one of my favorite shows: My Mad Fat Diary. And even though I'm not big on rom-coms, I do enjoy unique love stories, and this one was super wild while still bringing a few smiles to my face. So, I wanted to invite you to read my review and hear my thoughts on Finding Emily 💓.
The story takes place in Manchester, where we meet Owen (Spike Fearn), a young guy who spends his days working as a sound technician at a nightclub. One day, during a big party at his venue, he meets a young woman who is very different from him, causing him to fall for her almost immediately. They share a brief conversation where he only finds out her name is Emily, and he asks for her number so he can contact her later. In his mind, he has already found the love of his life, but the problem is that now that he's completely smitten, he can't get ahold of her—her phone number is incomplete, and the only things he knows are her name and that she attends a certain university in Manchester.
Owen is someone who falls in love very easily; in fact, his brother reminds him that she's probably just another girl. But to him, that's not the case—he is determined to do whatever it takes to find Emily. When he arrives at the university and asks around for an Emily, he remembers there could be thousands of them, though someone tells him there is an Emily studying psychology who might be the one he's looking for. Upon meeting this Emily, he thinks she's the girl, but she tells him she isn't the one he's searching for. However, she offers to help him find the real Emily.
The search devolves into a series of absurd and hilarious events. Owen goes through all kinds of difficult and strange situations, reaching the point of becoming obsessed with the whole thing. Nevertheless, the Emily accompanying him encourages him to keep looking for the girl. I found it hilarious how Owen went through so much without ever truly questioning the crazy things he was doing for a girl he'd only met for one night, but I suppose love makes us do wild things just to have a chance to be with that special someone.
I love that it's a British film—it reminds me of My Mad Fat Diary—and even though it's aimed at a more teenage audience, I really enjoyed it. The lead actors, Spike Fearn and Angourie Rice, make the story feel very natural. They have great chemistry, even though they aren't romantically interested in each other—or at least, that's what they think at first. It's one of those love stories that make you laugh and smile because love can be as complicated or as simple as we choose to see it.
The scenery was lovely, showing parts of Manchester, how the local people interact, and their way of life. The music choices were also spot on; a good soundtrack in a love story always gives a film that extra touch to make it even sweeter. The characters all have their own quirks in different ways, and as they dive deeper into the feelings of love, their clear goals show how we sometimes do things without really thinking about the consequences. It's not your typical romance movie.
I felt the story's progression was quite original, giving off the vibe of a throwback story. Love stories from back in the day had a special quality that kept you hooked, and I really liked this one. I enjoyed Owen and Emily's story and how chaotic it can be when two completely different people meet—only to end up complementing each other, despite how strange it might seem for two strangers sharing a goal to end up falling in love. Hola amigos amantes del cine y la televisión. Espero que se encuentren muy bien y estén teniendo un buen día. Hace poco vi un vídeo de TikTok de la película Finding Emily. Me encanto lo que vi y tenía mucha curiosidad por saber cómo se desarrollaba esta historia muy británica de romance y comedia. Realmente quede muy impresionada con lo mucho que me recordó a una de mis series favoritas: My Mad Fat Diary. Y aunque no soy muy de las comedias románticas, si que me gustan las historias de romance diferentes y está fue muy loca y al mismo tiempo me sacó unas cuantas sonrisas. Así que quería invitarlos a leer la reseña y que me pareció Finding Emily 💓.
La historia se desarrolla en Manchester, donde conocemos a Owen (Spike Fearn) un joven que se pasa sus días trabajando cómo técnico de sonido en una discoteca. Y un día en una gran fiesta que hay en el lugar de trabajo, conoce a una joven muy diferente para él, lo que hace que cree sentimientos casi de inmediato por ella. Comparten una conversación corta donde solo conoce que se llama Emily y le pide su número para contactarla después. Para el ya ha encontrado a la mujer de su vida, pero el caso es que ahora que está completamente ilusionado por ella no logra contactarla, su número no está completo y lo único que sabe es su nombre y que va a cierta universidad en Manchester.
Owen es alguien que se ilusiona muy fácilmente de hecho su hermano le recuerda que probablemente solo sea una chica más del montón. Pero para el no es así, está decidido a hacer lo que sea para encontrar a Emily. Y cuando llega a la universidad y pregunta por una tal Emily recuerda que pueden existir miles, aunque alguien le dice que hay una Emily que estudia Psicología y que posiblemente sea ella a quién está buscando. Al conocer a esta Emily el cree que es ella pero luego está misma le dice que ella no es a quién está buscando, sin embargo lo va ayudar a encontrar a la verdadera Emily.
La búsqueda se convierte en una serie de acontecimientos sin sentido y muy graciosos, Owen pasa por todo tipo de situaciones difíciles y algunas extrañas. Llegando al punto de sentirse obsesionado por el tema, sin embargo, la Emily que lo acompaña lo motiva a seguir buscando a la chica. Me causo mucha gracia que Owen hiciera tantas cosas y que en ningún momento se cuestionara de verdad que estaba cometiendo muchas locuras por una chica que había conocido solo una noche, pero supongo que el amor hace que hagamos ciertas locuras solo con la intención de poder estar con esa persona especial.
Me encanta el hecho de que es una película británica, me recuerda a My Mad Fat Diary y aunque es una historia para un público más adolescente la disfrute mucho. Los protagonistas Spike Fearn y Angourie Rice hacen que la historia se sienta muy natural, ambos tienen mucha química aunque no estén interesados sentimentalmente el uno del otro, o al menos eso es lo que creen al comienzo. Es de esas historias de romance que te hacen reír y sonreír por qué el amor puede ser tan complicado cómo muy sencillo dependiendo de la forma en la que lo veamos.
Los escenarios fueron muy bonitos, mostrando parte de Manchester y de la forma en la que las personas de allí interactúan y cómo viven. La elección de la música también estuvo muy buena, un buen soundtrack dentro de una historia de romance siempre le da el toque necesario a la película para que sea aún más bonita. Los personajes tienen su locura, cada uno de diferentes maneras y con objetivos claros que luego al verse más sumergidos en los sentimientos del amor hacen que la película te lleve a pensar en que a veces hacemos cosas que realmente no pensamos en las consecuencias que puedan tener.
No es la típica película de romance, sentí que fue bastante original el desarrollo de la historia, sentí que estaba viendo una historia de otra época. Las películas de romance de antes tenían algo especial que hacían que te quedaras enganchado y esta me gustó mucho. Disfrute de la historia de Owen y Emily, de lo alocado que puede ser el encuentro entre dos personas totalmente diferentes, que al final terminan complementándose a pesar de lo extraño que pueda parecer que dos desconocidos con un objetivo puedan llegar a enamorarse.
