Esa idea de que sea Stewart quien comience el relato de este caso, en donde primeramente observamos lo que posiblemente sea su preparación para ser parte de los "Green Lanterns Corps", nos ofrece una visión del personaje que personalmente no conocía; su actitud en hacer ver que respeta la cadena de mando, lo cual le hace afirmar que respeta a Hal, muchas veces queda en entredicho porque es notorio que él se siente mejor preparado para ser el portador del anillo; posiblemente eso lo haga ver como un personaje que genere molestia, pero no hay que obviar que en esa etapa de su vida, está en pleno entrenamiento y que su arrogancia podrá traer aciertos y problemas.
The first episode, titled “Pilot,” is a great introduction to both protagonists, although this time the narrative—or point of view—is centered on the character “John Stewart,” a character who certainly needs to be introduced to an audience that doesn’t read comics or hasn’t had the chance to get to know him (like me) through the ’90s animated series based on the Justice League. The decision to have Stewart begin the story of this case—where we first see what may be his training to join the “Green Lantern Corps”—offers a perspective on the character that I personally wasn’t familiar with; his attitude of appearing to respect the chain of command—which leads him to claim he respects Hal—is often called into question because it’s clear he feels better prepared to be the ring bearer; this might make him seem like an annoying character, but we mustn’t overlook the fact that at this stage in his life, he’s in the midst of training, and his arrogance can lead to both successes and problems.
Con respecto a la versión de "Hal", seguramente es el mentor que nadie quiere tener y eso es debido a que él no siente que necesita tener de manera inmediata un refuerzo, pero creo que debemos esperar a tener el conocimiento del porqué se decidió hacer un cambio radical de tener otro portador terrícola del anillo cuando Jordan sigue siendo un Green Lantern; su arrogancia, poca humildad, antipatía en ciertos casos o su comodidad de enfrentar casos por su solo, hace que genere un muro, el cual sea difícil para él convertirse en un maestro, un entrenador, alguien a quien completamente se pueda admirar y seguramente en sus actos en el futuro de la serie descubriremos el gran héroe que es, a pesar del notorio sufrimiento que padece.
As for "Hal," he’s definitely the mentor no one wants to have, and that’s because he doesn’t feel he needs immediate reinforcement. But I think we should wait until we understand why the decision was made to make such a radical change—to have another Earthling wear the ring—when Jordan is still a Green Lantern; His arrogance, lack of humility, unfriendliness in certain situations, and his tendency to handle cases on his own create a barrier that makes it difficult for him to become a mentor, a coach, or someone who can be fully admired. Surely, through his actions in the series’ future, we’ll discover the great hero he truly is, despite the obvious suffering he endures.
El primer episodio es magnífico; lo pausado del relato introductorio de muchos personajes en esta historia es algo que me pareció correcto, así como los momentos precisos para indagar en los orígenes de los protagonistas, en especial en esos donde dejaron de tener miedo, lo cual es un tema muy recurrente e importante para los Linternas Verdes. La relación entre los personajes es más que correcta porque es notorio que "Hal" interpretado por Kyle Chandler, no aprecia el hecho de tener un aprendiz/compañero/reemplazo, al igual que "John", interpretado por Aaron Pierre, quien, a pesar de respetar a Hal, cree que sí tiene lo necesario para portar el manto de un linterna verde; estos dos aspectos son importantes para el desarrollo de los personajes porque ahora son parte de un caso del cual falta por generar importantes revelaciones; seguramente deberán dejar atrás sus diferencias y aprender a trabajar juntos y ese aspecto dramático es lo que más me genera expectativa en vez de ver el uso del anillo de poder. Personalmente, estoy muy motivado sobre descubrir el pasado, presente y futuro de estos personajes, a los cuales tengo un conocimiento para nada extenso, pero sí reconozco ciertas reglas y demás personajes que podrán aparecer en los próximos episodios, pero justamente el desconocimiento de muchas otras cosas más es lo que quiero descubrir desde el punto de vista de héroes para nada perfectos.
The first episode is magnificent; I thought the unhurried pace of the introductory narrative for the many characters in this story was just right, as were the well-timed moments to delve into the protagonists’ origins—especially those moments when they stopped being afraid, which is a very recurring and important theme for the Green Lanterns. The dynamic between the characters is spot-on because it’s clear that “Hal,” played by Kyle Chandler, doesn’t appreciate having an apprentice/partner/replacement, just as “John,” played by Aaron Pierre, who—despite respecting Hal—believes he does have what it takes to carry the mantle of a Green Lantern; these two aspects are crucial to the characters’ development because they’re now part of a case that’s yet to yield major revelations; they’ll surely have to put their differences aside and learn to work together, and that dramatic element is what I’m most looking forward to, rather than seeing the power ring in action. Personally, I’m really excited to discover the past, present, and future of these characters—about whom I know very little—though I do recognize certain plot points and other characters who may appear in upcoming episodes. But it’s precisely my lack of knowledge about so many other things that I want to uncover, from the perspective of heroes who are far from perfect.
