Zafiro y Acero

Sapphire y Steel
Greetings friends of movies and television shows. Very few of those present will remember my favorite television series and I am talking from 1979 to approximately 1982, where there was no fashion or followers in Venezuela. In total there were 34 episodes of 25 minutes each.
I'm sure you recognize that masculine face that was once Illya Kuryakin, a Russian agent on the popular 1970s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and now in his current role as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on NCIS, the Actor David Keith McCallum.
These science fiction series came to create a new space where new ideas and transformations in different fields were experienced, seeking to imagine the future without knowing for sure what could be discovered in the world.
Each episode of this series opened with the same locution: “All irregularities will be dealt with by the forces that control each dimension. Transuranium heavy elements should not be used where there is life. Average atomic weights are usable: gold, lead, copper, jet, diamond, radium, sapphire, silver, and steel. Sapphire and Steel have received the quest.”
We find two characters in the series, Sapphire (Joanna Lumley) and Steel (David McCallum), who are not really human, but rather represent the characteristics of their code names and are a kind of elemental beings. Its mission is to fix anomalies in our present and we are talking about the 70s.
These anomalies appeared in different places, sometimes strange phenomena, they could be ghosts that refuse to leave or strange creatures that should not be in this present time.
Its characteristics was the ambiguity in each chapter. It was not clear the situation and why this detective couple appeared or was sent by someone. Nor are we provided with information about its nature, its preparation, its state, or its past.
As I watched the series, I observed that Sapphire had the ability, although restricted, to "manage time", she could make it go back. He obtained information by touching the person or object, visualizing his age or his destiny in life. Sometimes it controlled the human's mind.
Instead, Steel's abilities were related to the element of his name: extraordinary strength, telekinesis and the power to extract heat from another body, he could resist the variation of Time.
In short, Sapphire was the diplomatic, warm and empathetic one, while Steel was the most logical, rude and practical.
They occasionally received help from two other specialist agents, most notably the super-strong Lead (Val Pringle) and the tech-savvy Silver (David Collings).
The creator and screenwriter of the series was Peter J.Hammond, who would later take up the idea in other science fiction series for "Doctor Who".
With each episode the stories got stranger and darker. The drama kept us in total suspense that was increasing in the development of the story.
Time is used as an abstract tool, where it takes on its own characteristics and becomes an evil and conscious entity that tries to penetrate our world with terrifying consequences that range from total extinction. It was noticeable a universe where strange and incomprehensible forces were present that leaves us with the feeling that there is magic beyond that we do not understand.
I have managed to see some chapters thanks to YouTube but I still have that emptiness that comes from not having a final closure. Also the day of its last broadcast in Venezuela I was in labor, so I missed it and they didn't repeat it like the series does now.
It left a great mark on me due to the extraordinary nature of the subject and that feeling that there are forces beyond that we do not understand. I would love to sit through it all over again.
