Obsession | Review and Opinion

A few days ago, I really enjoyed the movie Obsession—it has everything I love about cinema. Even though I started watching it without any expectations, it gave me a truly satisfying experience. I didn’t know it existed or who the actors were; I just picked it while scrolling through the menu.

Obsession is a psychological thriller—one of my favorite genres—along with romance and horror. If we combine these genres, we can already guess the main plot: unrequited love.

The esoteric, spiritual, or magical has always captured my attention, and I prefer movies about heartbreak to those about romantic love 😆, so Obsession had everything it needed to hook me—which is exactly what happened.

Hace unos días quedé complacida con la película Obsesión, es todo lo que me gusta del cine y aunque comencé a verla sin ninguna expectativa me brindó un tiempo de satisfacción, no sabía de su existencia ni conocía a los actores simplemente la escogí mientras escroleaba el menú.

Obsesión es del género thriller psicológico uno de mis favoritos adicional a este es de romance y terror. Si relacionamos los géneros ya podemos intuir su argumento principal, un amor no correspondido.

Lo esotérico, espiritual o mágico siempre ha captado mi atención y me gustan más las películas de desamor que de amor romántico 😆 así que Obsesión tenía todo para engancharme como al final sucedió.

Synopsis

A shy guy has been in love with one of his coworkers for years, but he feels unable to express his feelings. He rehearses ways to confess and looks for opportunities to do so, but he can’t bring himself to tell her. He lives alone with his cat, and through a spell, he manages to get the girl’s attention, triggering a series of dramatic events due to the obsession he’s sparked in her.

Sinopsis

Un chico tímido está enamorado desde hace años de una de sus compañeras de trabajo, pero se siente incapaz de expresar sus sentimientos, ensaya formas y busca oportunidades para declararse, pero no logra decírselo, vive solo con su gato y por medio de un hechizo consigue obtener la atención de la chica desencadenando una serie de eventos dramáticos por una obsesión que generó en ella.

I’m one of those people who believe that spells are always bad when cast on another person—there’s no such thing as a “good” spell, even if the intention behind it is good. That’s why this kind of magic usually goes wrong. What’s unique about this movie is that it’s not a woman who casts the spell, but a man.

These things aren’t to be toyed with, and I love that the story portrays how it all began innocently and that the protagonist considered making amends for his actions. Although the film ultimately crosses the line into fiction by creating unrealistic events, I appreciate how it brings to life the terrible consequences that can result from sorcery.

As for the performances, they were fantastic; the characters felt authentic and relatable, just like real people. They were developed to convey tension, suspense, and stress as the minutes ticked by.

Soy de las que creen que los hechizos siempre son malos cuando son enviados hacia otra persona, no existe un hechizo bueno aunque su intención al realizarse sea buena. Por lo que este tipo de magia siempre suele salir mal, en la película se tiene la particularidad que no es una mujer la que lanza el hechizo sino un hombre.

Estas cosas no son para jugar y me encanta que la historia haya planteado que todo inició de forma inocente y que el protagonista pensara en remediar tal acción. Aunque es una película que al final sobrepasa la ficción creando hechos irreales me gusta que pueda recrear cosas terribles que pasan con la hechicería.

En cuanto a las actuaciones estuvieron estupendas, sentí a los personajes auténticos, cercanos como cualquier persona, desarrollaron los personajes para que transmitieran tensión, suspenso y estrés a medida que pasan los minutos.

It’s not a production with a large cast—just the right number of actors needed to tell a good story. As for the makeup, costumes, and atmosphere, they’re great—spot on. The protagonist’s costumes made her come across as a sexy, self-assured woman who changed a lot because of what she was going through, and her makeup was a plus for generating fear and anxiety in the viewer; and the atmosphere transformed what should have been a welcoming place into somewhere you’d never want to end up.

It’s a relatively new movie from 2025. I recommend it if you like this genre; I’d give it a 9 out of 10. If you’ve seen it, tell me what your favorite part was!

No es una producción con muchos actores solo los justos que necesitan para crear una buena historia. En cuanto al maquillaje, vestuario y ambiente es genial, no tuvo pérdida, el vestuario de la protagonista me hizo verla como una mujer sexi y segura de sí misma que cambió mucho por lo que pasaba y su maquillaje fue un plus para generar miedo y ansiedad al espectador; y el ambiente mostró como un lugar que debería ser acogedor en un sitio al que no quieres llegar.

Es una película del 2025 relativamente nueva, la recomiendo si te gusta este género, yo la calificó con un 9 /10. ¿Si la viste cuéntame qué parte fue tu favorita?
