Hoy les traigo una nueva peli animada. Creo que aún no la han comentado por aquí, pero es muy graciosa y, además, me gusta mucho que hayan tomado la historia de un país distinto, como lo es Perú.
Bueno, ¡comencemos!
RESUMEN
Kuzco es un joven emperador que tiene bajo su poder un gran imperio. Al haber asumido el trono tan joven, no es tomado muy en cuenta dentro de su palacio, por lo que su consejera, Yzma, aprovecha para ir adueñándose poco a poco de ese poder.
Pero el joven se da cuenta de todo esto y decide despedirla. Ella, muy enojada, le pide que no lo haga, ya que llevaba años trabajando allí; aun así, él termina echándola.
Yzma, llena de odio, decide armar un plan para matar a Kuzco, pero este fracasa y termina convirtiéndolo en una llama. Entonces decide que su secuaz, Kronk, se lo lleve a otro lugar para finalmente matarlo.
Kronk entra en un dilema sobre si lo que iba a hacer era correcto, así que, por azares de la vida, Kuzco, convertido en llama, termina en la carreta de un aldeano y Kronk decide dejar las cosas así.
El aldeano era Pacha y había ido al palacio para hablar con el emperador, quien le había dicho que destruiría el lugar donde vivía para convertirlo en un centro vacacional como regalo de cumpleaños.
Pacha estaba muy preocupado porque no sabía cómo decirles esto a su familia. Mientras pensaba, se da cuenta de que algo se movía entre sus bultos y se lleva la sorpresa de que había una llama allí.
Kuzco despierta muy confundido, afirmando que Pacha le había hecho eso como venganza por lo que pensaba hacer con su casa. Al no saber qué había pasado, recuerda que su ex consejera, Yzma, tenía un laboratorio en el palacio y que ella podría ayudarlo a volver a la normalidad.
Entonces emprende su viaje hacia el palacio pidiéndole ayuda a Pacha, pero él, a cambio, le pide que desista de construir ese centro vacacional en sus tierras. Kuzco rechaza la idea y decide irse solo.
Enfrenta grandes problemas durante el camino y se topa con animales muy peligrosos en la selva, pero Pacha llega a salvarlo y decide acompañarlo en su viaje.
Durante toda la travesía se hacen muy amigos, tanto que Pacha piensa que ese joven había cambiado por completo: pasó de ser arrogante y egoísta a convertirse en una persona amable.
En el último tramo del viaje, Pacha sufre un accidente y Kuzco decide dejarlo atrás y seguir su camino. Pero entonces descubre que Yzma lo había estado buscando para matarlo y quedarse con el trono. Kuzco, muy triste, ya no sabe en quién confiar y decide buscar nuevamente a Pacha.
Ellos dos hacen las paces y deciden ir al laboratorio para buscar una poción que convierta a Kuzco nuevamente en humano. Allí se encuentran con Yzma y Kronk, y comienza la pelea.
Kuzco y Pacha terminan ganando y, por fin, Kuzco vuelve a ser humano. En agradecimiento, el emperador decide construir su centro vacacional en otro lugar y ambos terminan siendo muy buenos amigos.

OPINIÓN PERSONAL
Personalmente, esta es una película muy diferente a las demás, en especial porque está inspirada en un país distinto a los que normalmente se suelen mencionar en las películas de Disney.
Me gustó mucho ver cómo representaron la cultura incaica y creo que la animación estuvo muy bien, especialmente considerando que es una película del año 2000.
Podemos ver a un emperador que era sumamente egoísta y maleducado. Nadie a su alrededor podía decirle cómo comportarse; todo se hacía a su manera.
Lo vestían, lo alimentaban, le cumplían todos sus caprichos y, si algo no se hacía como él quería, las personas eran castigadas o despedidas. Creo que haber perdido a sus padres desde muy pequeño influyó en su comportamiento y, además, sus supuestos consejeros o profesores tampoco lo ayudaron a mejorar.
A veces pasa que, cuando alguien está en el poder, se le suben los humos. Creo que eso ocurre también con algunos altos mandos; por eso Yzma quería a toda costa obtener ese poder y quizá lo habría conseguido, porque Kuzco no era muy responsable con su cargo.
Aunque Yzma ya se iba al otro extremo: era muy mandona y una mala líder. No solucionaba los problemas de su pueblo; simplemente les echaba la culpa a ellos mismos por haber nacido así.
Si bien la película presenta todas estas problemáticas en forma de chiste, creo que son cosas que suelen pasar en cargos de gran poder dentro de instituciones, países y otras entidades.
Pero al vivir toda esa aventura y convertirse en llama, Kuzco vio que la vida no era nada fácil: costaba conseguir comida, trabajo y mantener a una familia. Cosas que él nunca había experimentado, pero que le permitieron entender mejor su posición y pensar en cómo podía mejorar como gobernante.
A veces uno debe salir de su zona de confort y ver los problemas desde otra perspectiva para comprender mejor el panorama completo. Eso siempre ayuda a tener mejores ideas y también a valorar la importancia de contar con un buen equipo o con consejeros que aporten distintos puntos de vista.
Es una película muy graciosa que también invita a reflexionar sobre estos temas. Sí me gustaría saber si a los peruanos les gustó esta película y si se sienten identificados con la forma en que se muestra su cultura.
A veces pasa que, en este tipo de películas ambientadas en países fuera de Norteamérica, no siempre llegan a contar bien las historias porque no realizan una investigación lo suficientemente profunda para obtener toda la información necesaria.
O también caen en muchos clichés y la historia pierde esa esencia que realmente podría mostrar la cultura de un país, terminando por simplificarla demasiado. Pero, en este caso, siento que eso no ocurrió.
Como siempre digo, habría que conocer la opinión de los propios peruanos para comprobar qué tan bien están representados la historia, los paisajes, las personas, la comida, el lenguaje y los demás aspectos culturales.
Algo que se menciona mucho en la película son las prendas hechas con lana de alpaca y también un platillo típico preparado con un raro insecto.
Pero, como en toda película, también se mezclan elementos modernos para que no resulte aburrida y para que los niños la encuentren más divertida e interesante.
No está de más ver esta película porque, personalmente, creo que les sacará muchas risas.

The Emperor's New Groove (2000): Llamas, Potions, and Adventures
Today I’m bringing you a new animated movie. I don’t think anyone has reviewed it here yet, but it’s really funny, and I also really like that they based the story on a different country—Peru, in this case.
Well, let’s get started!
SYNOPSIS
Kuzco is a young emperor who rules over a vast empire. Having ascended to the throne at such a young age, he isn’t taken very seriously within his palace, so his advisor, Yzma, takes advantage of the situation to gradually seize that power for herself.
But the young emperor realizes what’s going on and decides to fire her. Furious, she begs him not to do so, since she’d been working there for years; even so, he ends up firing her.
Yzma, filled with hatred, hatches a plan to kill Kuzco, but it fails and ends up turning him into a llama. She then orders her henchman, Kronk, to take him somewhere else to finally kill him.
Kronk faces a dilemma over whether what he was about to do was right, so, by a twist of fate, Kuzco—now a llama—ends up in a villager’s cart, and Kronk decides to leave things as they are.
The villager was Pacha, and he had gone to the palace to speak with the emperor, who had told him he would destroy the place where Pacha lived to turn it into a resort as a birthday gift.
Pacha was very worried because he didn't know how to tell his family this. As he was thinking, he noticed something moving among his belongings and was surprised to find a llama there.
Kuzco wakes up very confused, claiming that Pacha had done this to him as revenge for what he was planning to do to his house. Not knowing what had happened, he remembers that his former advisor, Yzma, had a laboratory in the palace and that she might be able to help him return to normal.
So he sets out on his journey to the palace, asking Pacha for help, but Pacha, in return, asks him to give up on building that resort on his land. Kuzco rejects the idea and decides to go alone.
He faces major problems along the way and encounters very dangerous animals in the jungle, but Pacha comes to his rescue and decides to accompany him on his journey.
Throughout the journey, they become very close friends—so much so that Pacha thinks the young man has completely changed: he’s gone from being arrogant and selfish to becoming a kind person.
On the final leg of the journey, Pacha has an accident, and Kuzco decides to leave him behind and continue on his own. But then he discovers that Yzma had been looking for him to kill him and take the throne for herself. Kuzco, deeply saddened, no longer knows who to trust and decides to look for Pacha again.
The two make up and decide to go to the laboratory to find a potion that will turn Kuzco back into a human. There they run into Yzma and Kronk, and the fight begins.
Kuzco and Pacha end up winning, and Kuzco finally becomes human again. As a token of gratitude, the emperor decides to build his resort somewhere else, and the two end up becoming very good friends.

PERSONAL OPINION
Personally, this movie is very different from the others, especially because it’s inspired by a country other than those typically featured in Disney movies.
I really liked how they portrayed Inca culture, and I think the animation was excellent, especially considering it’s a movie from the year 2000.
We see an emperor who was extremely selfish and rude. No one around him could tell him how to behave; everything was done his way.
They dressed him, fed him, and indulged his every whim, and if something wasn’t done the way he wanted, people were punished or fired. I think losing his parents at such a young age influenced his behavior, and, furthermore, his so-called advisors or teachers didn’t help him improve either.
Sometimes, when someone is in power, they get a big head. I think that happens with some high-ranking officials as well; that’s why Yzma wanted that power at all costs—and she might have gotten it, because Kuzco wasn’t very responsible in his role.
Although Yzma went to the other extreme: she was very bossy and a bad leader. She didn’t solve her people’s problems; she simply blamed them for being born that way.
Although the movie presents all these issues as jokes, I think they’re things that often happen in positions of great power within institutions, countries, and other organizations.
But by going through that whole adventure and becoming a llama, Kuzco saw that life wasn’t easy at all: it was hard to find food, get a job, and support a family. These were things he’d never experienced before, but they allowed him to better understand his position and think about how he could improve as a ruler.
Sometimes you have to step outside your comfort zone and view problems from a different perspective to better understand the big picture. That always helps you come up with better ideas and also appreciate the importance of having a good team or advisors who offer different points of view.
It’s a very funny movie that also invites you to reflect on these issues. I’d love to know if Peruvians liked this movie and if they feel that their culture is portrayed accurately.
Sometimes, in this type of movie set in countries outside North America, the stories aren’t always told well because the filmmakers don’t conduct enough in-depth research to gather all the necessary information.
Or they fall into too many clichés, and the story loses the essence that could truly showcase a country’s culture, ending up oversimplifying it. But in this case, I feel that didn’t happen.
As I always say, we’d need to hear from Peruvians themselves to see how well the country’s history, landscapes, people, food, language, and other cultural aspects are represented.
The movie frequently features clothing made from alpaca wool, as well as a traditional dish made with a rare insect.
But, as in any movie, modern elements are also mixed in so it doesn’t get boring and so that kids find it more fun and interesting.
It’s definitely worth watching this movie because, personally, I think it will have you laughing a lot.
