The Haunting of Hill House is one of those shows that seriously messed me up for a while after watching it and you cant stop thinking about what you just saw for days, specially how that house fucked all those kids on the head and their lives, poor Luke and Nell. Mike Flanagan took this old Shirley Jackson book and turned it into something way more than just another ghost story on Netflix, Im not going to argue how close to the lore it is but I would say tight since the scores on sites like IMDB and RTT, he made it about family and loss and grief and how trauma can stick with you for years and completely destroy you as a person. This thing jumps back and forth between when the Crain family lived in that creepy ass house as kids and how fucked up they all are as adults because of what went down there and it works so damn well because you actually care about these people and there problems and there pain. Every single one of them is dealing with there own stuff from drug addiction too anger issues too just straight up refusing too believe what happened to them was real and watching them try too function as broken adults while dealing with ghosts from their past is what makes this show so good and different from all the other horror shit on streaming right now. The scares are legit too like there are moments where I had too pause because something jumped out that I was not expecting, but what really gets you is the emotional weight of everything and how heavy it feels the hole time your watching it.​

Source Steven Crain is this paranormal investigator and writer but hes also a huge skeptic witch is funny because he grew up in a haunted house although he doesnt believe or choose not to believe in any of what people experience because thats how he be coping with what has been chasing them all this hears. Shirley is the funeral home owner and she is basically the mom of the family specially after they abandon Hill House and left their mom behind, she is constantly taking care of everyone else problems and worrying about Luke and Nell too the point where its destroying her own life and marriage. Theo is the middle child and shes got this ability where she can feel emotions from people and objects when she touches them so she wear gloves all the time to avoid feeling others people, she helps kids but she cant help herself because shes so disconnected from everyone. Luke is the drug addict twin whos been in and out of rehab like a million times and nobody believes him anymore, truth is that nobody believe him as a kid and was a very very dark story and probably top two but now that I think about it the twins story were the worst thats Nell and Luke, as a kid mom and dad never believe him not about the ghosts he sees or the tall man with the floating hat or his friend that came out during the day who in fact was an actual girl, and Nell is his twin sister whos depressed and seeing this bent neck lady ghost that scared the shit out of her as a kid and is still following her around as an adult but never saw her face. Timothy Hutton plays the dad Hugh as an adult and Henry Thomas plays young Hugh in the flashbacks, both of them are so good you can see how much he cares about his kids while also being overwhelmed by what is happening in that house and not knowing what too do about it. The mom Olivia is played by Carla Gugino and shes amazing, you watch her slowly lose her mind over the episodes and its heartbreaking because shes trying so hard too protect her kids but the house is getting too her and messing with her head. The kid actors are surprisingly good too witch is rare because usually kid actors in horror stuff are annoying as hell, but these ones actually made me care about what was happening too them specially the young Nell and young Luke.

Source The structure of the show is really smart where each episode focuses on one of the five kids and shows you there perspective on what happened at Hill House and what there dealing with now as adults. Episode five is Nells episode and its called The Bent Neck Lady, and holy shit that reveal at the end completely destroyed me emotionally I wont spoil it but its one of the best twists I have seen in any show period like it made me sit there staring at the screen for like five minutes just processing what I just watched, what a way to TERRORIZE a human as a kid and all the way up through adulthood, thats some sick shit in the head. Episode six is when all the siblings come together at Shirleys house for Nells funeral and its called Two Storms, its this one long take that goes back and forth between the present and the past during a storm, the technical stuff is insane and the acting is incredible because everyones just yelling at each other and all the family drama comes pouring out to the point that not even dead Nell can take it and her casket falls to the side. The ghosts in this show are actually scary not like cheap jumpscare scary but like disturbing scary in a way that sticks. Theres this tall floating man with a bowler hat that follows Luke around and hes creepy as hell, not that much at the house but you can feel Luke been paranoic about it, theres the bent neck lady that haunts Nell, theres hidden ghosts in the background of scenes that you dont even notice until someone points them out too and then you go back and watch it again and your like holy shit how did I miss that, but the scariest thing about the show isnt the ghosts its the family stuff and how real it feels, like if you have ever had someone die suddenly in your family this show is gonna hit you hard because it captures that weird fog you walk around in for weeks after where nothing feels real, this happen TWICE in the show. The way the siblings all deal with there grief differently and how they blame each other and there dad for what happened but it was never his fault, its so well written and acted that sometimes I forgot I was watching a horror show and just got hooked in there drama. Mike Flanagan really understands trauma and how it effects people and how it can tear families apart over time, hes also really good at making you care about characters before he scares the crap out of you witch is something most horror directors dont get right. The red room reveal is great though like finding out that all these different rooms the kids remembered were actually the same room the hole time, that was a cool twist I did not see coming.

Source The ending though man the ending is where things get messy and I know other like have different things too say about it and argue about it online because I think the ending was very emotional but there could have been a more drastic fight against this danm house, like how Hugh was never able to neither open the Red Room or find where all the fungus was coming from but ALL his kids spend time inside the damn room. Without spoiling too much the last episode kind of goes against everything the show was building too for nine episodes, it feels way too happy for a show that was so dark and depressing and relentless with its sadness for so long. Some people think everyone actually died at the end and the happy ending is just the red room tricking them one last time witch would make sense with how the house works, would have been cool if the series had gave me some classic context on why this all happen, most like it was that crazy lady form the 60s who started all but who knows, the sure thing is that all her family was staying there stuck. The tone of that final episode is so different from everything else that it almost feels like a different show, its like Flanagan didnt have faith in his own dark ending and tried too give everyone a happy resolution witch just feels wrong for a story this tragic. I wanted it too end sad I wanted it too hurt because thats what the show earned over ten episodes of building up all this trauma and pain, instead we get this weird hopeful ending that dont really fit.

Pluribus episode 3 release a few days ago and I got to be honest, this thing is starting to feel a bit too slow for my liking, the whole concept is interesting enough with Carol fighting against this happiness hive mind takeover but three episodes in and I am still waiting for something to really grab me and make me care, I cant denied its funny but is there more to it?. Gordon Smith directed this one and he did some Better Call Saul episodes so you know the production quality is solid but the pacing feels off, the Norway flashback opening with Carol and Helen at that ice hotel was really nice although I can only imagine the cold on a place like that and I guess they did this to try to give more layers to Carol as a character, showing she actually does have happy memories even though she loves feeling miserable but that whole sequence felt like it was dragging just to show us Carol has a favorite color which is purple. I mean we get it already, purple is everywhere in this show, her scarf is purple, the northern lights are suposed to turn purple, its like they are putting too much effort with simbolism instead of just telling the story, same as with Breaking Bad references I mention on the first two episodes, the grenade scene was probably the most interesting part of the episode along with the Nuclear weapon request that got me thinking. Carol literally pulls the pin thinking there is no way Zosia would give her a real one but she did, Zosia throws it out the window and got hurt badly after the explosion something hit her in the back which forces Carol to actually give a damn about her for a second. That moment worked because it showed cracks in both characters, for example why would Zosia drink if alcohol is bad for the body period no questions ask if they are all about efficiency and well being and there is Carol who waits at the hospital to make sure Zosia is ok which shows she still has empathy even though she acts like she does not care about anyone but then we are back to Carol just being pissed off about everything, asking if they would give her an atom bomb, which honestly felt like the show is trying too hard to be edgy.

Source The Norway stuff at the beginning was supposed to give us more context about who Carol was before all this shit went down, we see her with Helen at this ice hotel made completely out of ice, Carol is complaining about how much money they spent just to sleep on a frozen bed, Helen is all excited talking to the hotel guy in Norwegian, Carol is sitting there asking if her book made the bestseller list and where exactly it landed. Its supposed to show us that Carol has always been miserable even when experiencing moments that should make people happy, Helen is trying to get her to enjoy the northern lights, Carol is calling it a screensaver and saying she needs to use the bathroom, but then there is this one moment where Carol stops and actually takes it in, she looks at Helen, she looks at the lights, and you can see on her face that she is happy for like half a second, that is the moment the episode should have focused on instead of all the purple crap. That moment is what makes the ending hit harder when Carol realizes the hive mind will give her anything she wants, the look on her face is the same look she had in Norway, like she is finally understanding something important, the dynamic between Carol and Zosia is probably the only thing keeping me watching at this point, Rhea Seehorn is doing amazing work here, you can tell she is trying to make Zosia feel like more than just a hive mind drone, there are moments where you see cracks in the programing, like when she looks back at Carol before getting on Air Force One at the end of episode 2, or when she tackles Carol to protect her from the grenade explotion.

Source Those moments are what make this show interesting because they suggest that maybe the hive mind is not as perfect as it thinks it is, the grenade moment was wild because it showed just how literal this hive mind takes everything, Carol says sarcastically that she wants a hand grenade to make her happy, they actually bring her one, she pulls the pin thinking its fake, Zosia has to throw it out the window and takes shrapnel to her back protecting Carol from the blast. The aftermath is where the episode finally gets interesting, Carol is at the hospital waiting to hear if Zosia is ok, this DHL guy comes out to talk to her and Carol asks why the hell they gave her a real grenade in the first place, he says they would give her anything she asks for, another grenade, a bazooka, a tank, even an atomic bomb if she really wanted it, that scene at the end is the first time the show actually raise so many questions about what Carol is going to do with this information, the hive mind literally cannot say no to her but one thing is for sure that they want Carol and everybody else to turn in at all cost. They will give her weapons that could destroy the entire planet if she asks for them, that was the first time the hive mind doubt but I dont know if its because they wanted the scene to be funny, and now Carol is probably thinking about how she can use that to her advantage, maybe she can demand they bring her scientists, maybe she can demand they figure out how to reverse the virus, maybe she can just blow everything up out of spite, who knows at this point but at least now we have a direction for the story to go in, the problem is the show is taking way too long to get to that point, we are three episodes in and it still feels like we are in the setup phase, I get that Vince Gilligan loves a slow burn, Breaking Bad did not get good until Season 2, Better Call Saul took even longer but this is 2025 and people do not have the patience for that anymore, we are in an era of 8 episodes at most season.

Source I need the show to give me a reason to care about Carol beyond just feeling bad that she lost Helen or that she is hilarious at been mad, I need to see her actualy do something instead of just reacting to everything the hive mind throws at her, the other big thing this episode did was show us more of the other immune people. Carol tries calling this guy in Paraguay named Manus, he tells her to fuck off in Spanish, she responds by telling him with "Chinga tu madre cabron" that was funny af. It seems like Manus is the only other person who hates the hive mind as much as Carol does and Im sure she will get back to him at some point, everyone else at that meeting in Spain was ready to either join or just live their lives in peace, Carol was the only one screaming about how they need to fight back and save humanity, I think the show is setting up Manus as someone who will finally give Carol an ally in all this, someone who understands what she is going through and wants to actually do something about it, but again we are three episodes in and we still have not met him yet so who knows when that is going to happen, the grocery store scene was another example of the show trying to be creepy but just coming off as weird. Carol goes to buy food and finds the whole place empty because the hive mind centralized all the resources, she demands they restock it, within minutes trucks show up and hundreds of people are walking around putting everything back on the shelves in perfect sync, it looked cool visually but it did not really add anything to the story except to show us again that the hive mind will do whatever Carol wants, we already knew that from the grenade scene, we already knew that from episode 2 when she stopped Air Force One by standing in front of it, the show keeps telling us the same things over and over again, Carol is miserable, the hive mind wants to make her happy, she hates them becuase they killed Helen and absorbed her memories, we get it already now lets move on to something new.

Good Boy is one of those movies that sounds absolutely insane when you try explaining it to someone, like yeah its a haunted house movie but shot completely from a dogs perspective, no the dog does not talk, no there are no subtitles telling you what he is thinking just a dog staring at weird shit happening around him for 72 minutes. On paper that sounds boring as hell but somehow this thing actually works way better than it should, Ben Leonberg shot this over 400 days across three years with his own dog Indy, you can tell this was a real passion project because who the hell else would dedicate that much time to filming a dog just reacting to stuff. The whole movie is shot from dogs eye level, you are seeing everything exactly the way Indy sees it, human faces are always cut off or hidden in shadows until the very end, its all about what this dog is going through, how confused he is by all the supernatural crap happening in this house. What makes this work is that Indy delivers a solid performance without any CGI bullshit, you can see actual fear in his eyes when things get creepy, confusion when his owner starts acting strange, that loyalty dogs have even when they have zero clue whats happening, just a regular dog reacting while the director is behind the camera making duck noises to get his attention pointed in the right direction which is hilarious but also kind of genius. The plot is super straight forward, Todd moves into his dead grandpas house with his dog Indy, Todd is sick as hell coughing up blood all over the place dealing with some chronic lung disease, there is clearly something evil in that house trying to drag Todd into the afterlife before his time is up, Indy knows something is very wrong, he cannot do anything about it because he is just a dog. Its frustrating as hell to watch, you want Indy to save his owner, he has no way to communicate what he is seeing.

Source The production behind this thing is absolutely wild, Ben Leonberg could only shoot with Indy for like an hour each day because after that the dog would get tired, completely loose focus, just wander off to do dog things instead of acting, that means they had to stretch this project out over three fkn years just to get enough footage to make a 72 minute movie which is insane. This is not some big studio project with a dog doing tricks for treats, this is a directors actual real life pet just living his life while cameras happen to be rolling, capturing genuine reactions instead of manufactured performances, most of the shots where Indy looks terrified, locked onto something off screen were done by crew members holding treats or toys just out of frame, then the editing makes it seem like he is staring at ghosts, demons, whatever supernatural entity is tormenting Todd. All the human faces stay hidden in darkness, cut off at weird angles for most of the runtime which keeps you locked into Indys limited point of view, you dont get to see what the humans are thinking, feeling based on there facial expressions, you only see what Indy can see from down low at dog height looking up at everything. It makes the whole experience feel way more isolated, scary because your experiencing this nightmare from the perspective of a creature that has absolutely zero ability to understand whats going on around him.

Source Todd has been dealing with a chronic lung disease and its very bad to the point he is coughing up blood constantly, we see hospital visits during the start of the movie and his sister Vera keeps calling trying to get him to let her help but at this point he is like what ever happens. Todd just wants to be left alone, he doesnt want to be treated like a sick person anymore, but here comes the bit problem this house has a very dark history that nobody told him. Indy and Todd arrive to the place and Indy starts sensing something is very very wrong the moment they got there, he hears weird sounds from the basement, sees shadowy figures moving in corners, theres this muddy alien looking creature that keeps appearing, disappearing all over the house scaring the absolute shit out of him. At first you think maybe Indy is just picking up on the fact that Todd is dying, dogs can smell cancer so maybe these scary visions are just the dogs way of processing his owners sickness which would make sense, but then things get way too specific, way too physical for it to just be metaphor, doors start slamming shut on there own. Todd begins sleepwalking, bashing his head repeatedly against the basement door like he is being called down there, that muddy figure gets more aggressive as time goes on, eventually you realize both things are happening at once, Todd is absolutely dying from his illness but theres also something supernatural in this house trying to drag him into the afterlife early. The grandfather died in this same house, his dog Bandit was never found after they discovered the body which sets up this tragic parallel.

Source The third part is where everything comes crashing together, it gets sad as hell, Todd puts Indy outside on a chain in the pouring rain because he is too sick to deal with a dog anymore, also probably because he knows he is about to die soon, wants to make sure Indy is somewhere easy for Vera to find him. Indy breaks free, gets back into the house through the basement entrance where he finds Bandits skeleton still trapped down there from when the grandfather died years ago, turns out the same thing happened to them decades earlier, the supernatural entity dragged the grandfather into the afterlife, Bandit got locked in the basement trying desperately to save him, then just starved to death waiting for his owner which is brutal. When Indy makes it back upstairs he finds Todd already dead in bed with empty pill bottles scattered everywhere, theres nothing Indy can do, I mean he is a DOG what he can do??. Todds ghost appears one last time, that muddy death creature drags him toward this cave entrance in the basement, Indy tries to pull Todd back out but Todd tells him your a good dog but you cant save me this time, you got to stay here before getting pulled completely into the darkness. For a second it looks like Indy is going to do the same thing Bandit did, just sit there waiting forever but then Vera shows up calling for him, after hearing one final whistle from Todds ghost he makes the choice to run up the stairs toward her, survival instead of death. The movie ends with Indy riding in the car with Vera, his head out the window, he is safe but his owner is gone forever, theres nothing he could have done to change that outcome, its a punch to the gut.

The whole thing ends up being way more emotional, sad than I would expect from something called Good Boy, its not a feel good story about a heroic dog who saves his owner and to be honest even though its cool I feel it lacks that punch, that true fear and horror, its like a horror movie for kids. A realistic depressing story about grief, loss, watching someone you love die while being completely powerless to stop it. Not going to say I hate the ending because it doesnt give you that satisfying moment where Indy defeats the monster, saves Todd, but instead it just ends with Todd dead, Indy having to move on which feels empty after spending 72 minutes desperately wanting this dog to succeed, but I think thats the point the movie is making. Death is not something you can fight off with loyalty, sometimes people just fkn die, all you can do is accept it, keep going even when it hurts like hell, the movie does a really great job making you feel that complete helplessness from Indys limited perspective, he knows something is wrong, he tries everything he can to protect Todd but at the end of the day he is just a regular dog, theres only so much a dog can do against terminal illness on top of supernatural forces trying to fuck you up too. Its sad just sad, I was kinda pissed off that they didnt give Indy the happy ending he deserved. Does look like a very low budget movie but the numbers online are all over the place although wikipedia says $70 million, not much for a movie although not very low as others. Ben Leonberg and his team made something special and unique even if the pacing drags in the middle, the ending leaves you feeling completely empty. If your a dog person this movie is going to mess you up emotionally, if your not a dog person you will probably think its boring but I think theres real value in what they were trying to accomplish, its not perfect but its unique as hell, Indy gives one of the best animal performances I have seen in any horror movie period, that alone makes it worth checking out even if you end up hating how it wraps up.

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One took me some time to watch as Im not that of a fan of MII movies anymore, its just too much for me like latest Fast & Furious or what ever the name of the franchise is now days but I have to admit it this thing delivers on every level and then some and Im not even kidding when I say Tom Cruise at 60 years old is still out here jumping motorcycles off cliffs doing stunts that would make people half his age think twice about there life choices, one wrong move and you are done on set. The man is absolutely insane, there have been very few actors who does this kind of stuff at his age or at all, the dude looks like he is 30 and he is running around like he is got nothing to loose witch I guess when your Tom Cruise you really dont. The movie gets into the action right away with big opening scenes, you got this whole AI threat thing going on which feels scary relevant right now with all the technology stuff happening in real life and how everything is getting taken over by computers and algorithms, they made the villain feel real even tho its basically a computer program trying to take over the world and destroy everything in its path.

Source Gabriel as the human face of this AI works pretty well for what the movie needs, he is not the same level amazing as August Walker from Fallout but he gets the job done and you believe he is a threat to Ethan Hunt and his hole team. Esai Morales plays him with this calm creepy energy that makes you wanna punch him in the face, he is one of those villains who thinks he got everything figured out and is always three steps ahead of everyone which gets annoying but also makes sense for the story there trying to tell. The entity as the main bad guy is a smart choice because you never know whats real and whats fake, like is this person actually helping or are they being controled by the AI, is this trap part of the plan or did they really mess up, its constantly keeping you guessing figuring out whats the next move and making you second guess everything your seeing on screen. Haley Atwell as Grace is one of the best additions this movie has seen in years I mean it, her chemestry with Tom Cruise is so fkn good and watching them do the whole pickpocket thing back and fourth while running around Rome during that car chase was just perfection, like that whole sequence is so damn good and fun to watch. She puts up against a team of people who have been doing this for decades and that is not easy to pull off at all, she is funny she is badass and she feels like she actually belongs in this world witch is somthing a lot of new characters in movies struggle with nowdays. Source Source Every action set piece in this movie is designed to make your jaw drop and keep you entertain and interest on whats going on the whole movie that never really feels boring or draggy for the most part, the train sequence alone is worth the price of the ticket if you watch it at the theater back then. They do not just have a fight on a train like every other action movie, they have Tom Cruise and the bad guys fighting while the damn thing is literally falling off a bridge into a canyon and its completely insane, this is way more intense that some other train fights I have seen in the past its always either the knife fight or on top of the train but this one has a bit of everything, I loved every second of that whole thing. The way the train starts breaking apart and there dodging pianos and kitchen equipment while its on fire and your watching Tom Cruise do this insane stunts that you know are real because they showed you behind the scenes how they built an actual train just to destroy it, like who does that anymore in this CGI heavy era we live in. The motorcycle cliff jump that everyone has seen in the trailers is also spectacular even tho they spoiled it by showing it everywhere, but when you see it in the movie with the full context its still breathtaking and makes you go holy shit this guy is actually crazy, he did that stunt like 6 times during the actual shoot witch is just insane to think about. The airport sequence with all the key swaping and pickpocketing and the team trying to stay one step ahead of everyone was so well done, it keeps building and building and you think its over but then another twist happens and your like oh damn there still going, its the kind of stuff that makes Mission Impossible movies so much fun to watch compared to other generic action franchises out there. Source Source The movie earns its almost three hour runtime which is rare this days because most blockbusters feel bloated and could easily cut 30 minutes without loosing anything but this one keeps you locked in the whole way through without any real dead spots, not going to lie it does has its holes no movie is perfect but it makes up for this kinda meh scenes here an there. Rebecca Ferguson shows up and does her thing but she does not make it to the end, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg bring there A game even tho there getting older they still feel like important parts of the team and then you got Pom Klementieff who barely talks but kicks so much ass and looks amazing doing it that you cant help but root for her. The whole cast just works together so well and you can tell everyone is having a blast making this movie, there not just showing up for a paycheck there actually putting in the effort to make something special and it shows in every frame. The humor in this movie is also way better than I expected, its not forced or cringy its just natural funny moments that come from the situatons there in and the way the characters interact with each other, like when Haley and Tom are doing the whole performance issues joke in the car about it not working properly when he is trying to figure out the vehicle, its cheesy but it works because of how they play it.

Extraction 2 drops you straight back into Tyler Rakes world and this sequel does what it needs too do but doesnt really blow me away like I hoped it would after seeing how good the first movie was. Chris Hemsworth returns as the nearly indestructable merc, the Russo brothers are back writing it and Sam Hargrave directs again, you can tell Netflix threw serious cash at this thing because the action looks fantasic, the set is insane and that whole 21 minute one shot everyone keeps talking about is actualy pretty damn impressive to watch even tho you can spot all the hidden cuts once you start paying atention to the camera tricks they used, I have been working on a video project using this two movies as sample so I notice more from going through the timeline. The story picks up right were the first one left off, Tyler somehow survived getting shot multiple times and falling into that river which I mean come on but atleast they show us how instead of just pretending it never happend, he gets rescued and spends months in a coma before waking up to start rehab and the dude is not even fully healed when he takes another job. This time its personal tho because its his exwifes sister whos stuck in some Georgian prison, not Georgia like the state but the country over in that part of the world, her gangster husband is locked up in there with her and there two kids because he wants to keep his family close to him while doing time so they basically prisoners too and Tyler has too break in and get them out. The prison break scene is absolutly wild, we get that crazy moment were his arm catches fire, yeah the cover scene for this post and he just keeps fighting and punching people while hes literaly burning which looked insane but if Im being honest the first movie had tighter action overall, the gun fights were sharper and the whole thing felt more intense and focused.

Rottentomatoes Rating Source This one has plenty of violence and crazy stunts but something about it just doesnt hit the same way as the original did. Theres also this whole subplot with the womans teenage son who worships his criminal father even tho the guys a complete piece of shit, the kid makes dumb decision after dumb decision and I spent half the movie wanting someone to smack some sense into him because he keeps screwing things up for everyone trying to save his ass. The kids naivety gets people killed and he still doesnt get it, even after they almost blow him and his little sister up with a minigun from a helicopter he still runs back to his uncle who is the main bad guy and Im sitting there thinking what the hell is wrong with you they just tried too murder your whole family. That character was my biggest problem with the movie because I couldnt feel sorry for him no matter how hard the script wanted me too, if anything I wanted Tyler to leave him behind and just save the mom and little sister who actualy deserved it. The villian himself is fine I guess, hes hateable enough but nothing special or memorable, just another angry crime lord with an accent seeking revenge and we dont really get villians like Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons anymore in these action movies which is a shame. Idris Elba shows up in like two scenes at the begining and end but barely does anything which felt like such a waste of his talent, I kept waiting for him to come back and do something cool but nope he just sets up the sequel and thats it.

Source Source The action is were this movie shines tho and that prison break sequence is one of the best action scenes I have seen in years, we talking John Wick levels, maybe one of the best in any action movie period. Tyler goes into the prison, gets the family out but they get spotted and a security breach gets announced, all prisoners loose with rioting everywhere while they are still trying to escape through the prison, he is shooting guys with pistols then grabbing machine guns then using knives to stab people in the stomach like five times, he is hitting guys with pipes and shields, his arm catches on fire and he is punching people while burning, they fight there way through the yard into this storage facility area were they steal a car and it all looks like one continuous shot. The camera follows them as they drive through this chase with motorcycles and other vehicles shooting at them through the forests, Tyler uses a grenade launcher to blow stuff up, they get forced out of the vehicles and run for cover in a nuclear power plant were they jump onto a moving train, he grabs a heavy machine gun and starts shooting, gunmen get out of a helicopter and board the train for some brutal fights inside and outside the moving train, its FKN INSANE!!!, like all that was not enough more bad guys show up on dirt bikes and he takes them out too, the lady gets some good hits in aswell stabbing a guy real nasty, then Tyler climbs on top of the train with a minigun and shoots down the last helicopter before they finaly escape. Its exhausting too watch in the best way possible and the choreography is so smooth you feel like your right there in the action, problem is the movie peaks too early because nothing after that sequence comes close too matching that intensity, its like the movie blew its load halfway through and couldnt build back up too that level again.

Source Source The rest of the action is still solid, theres a good sequence later at these towers were bad guys show up with helicopters and miniguns shooting up the whole floor but the truth is that the body cant keep producing dopamine indefinetly. Tyler and the team have to fight there way out and it all feels smaller after that massive prison break. The final fight with the main villian is fine but kinda short, they fight in this old church and Tyler eventualy kills him but I wanted more, I wanted a longer brutal beatdown or something more creative instead of just another standard fist fight, they do use hammers and hacksaws and nails during the fight which was cool but still felt rushed. The ending wraps things up okay, Tyler and Nik get arrested by Austrian authorities and end up in prison, Tylers exwife shows up to visit him there and they finaly get some closure about there son who died, she tells him that the kids last thoughts werent about Tyler leaving but about how brave his dad was going too help people and Tyler gets emotional which was actualy a nice moment, Hemsworth sells it well and you can see the weight lift off his character. Then theres the sequel setup were they get taken out of prison and Idris Elba comes back and recruits Tyler for another mission saying he wants him too meet someone, so obviously theres gonna be a third movie if this one does good numbers on Netflix.

With the upcoming 2026 Exraction 3 I decided to watch the first two movies back to back and I bet both movies caught most people off guard thinking it was going to be another forgettable Netflix action movie where they throw money at a big name and hope it sticks but damn this movie delivered way more than I expected. Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake witch is a badass name you could give a mercenary, a broken dude who gets hired to rescue some drug lord kid in Bangladesh and the setup is basic as hell but who cares when the action is this good, the whole thing is simple, kid gets kidnapped by rival drug lord, mercenary goes in guns blazing to save him, you seen this a million times before but what makes Extraction different is how insane the action gets and how brutal it feels. This isnt your typical shoot em up where bullets fly around and nobody really gets hurt, people die in this movie and they die hard, bones break, blood sprays everywhere, its John Wick level violence but somehow it has a different sauce and way more intense, the choreography is nuts with every gunfight that feels heavy, you can hear bones cracking and see the damage he is doing to these guys and its so satisfying to watch. Hemsworth is huge compared to everyone else in the movie so when he throws people around it looks crazy, he is not doing flashy kung fu moves, he is just using his size and strength to overpower everyone witch just makes sense for his character, then the movie hits you with that insane car chase sequence that turns into a building raid that turns into a street shootout and its all done in what looks like one continuous shot for like twelve minutes straight, I know there are hidden cuts in there but it looks seamless and its right there with some of the best action sequences I have seen in years and probably one of the reasons this movie got so much attention when it drooped on Netflix.

Source The movie starts with Tyler jumping off a cliff in Australia witch honestly felt a bit much for an introduction but I get what they were trying to show us, this guy has a death wish and he does not care if he lives or dies, he is taking pills, he is drinking, doing underwater meditation where he holds his breath for way too long and you just know something bad happened to him in the past and the flashbacks to his son are a bit predictable but Hemsworth sells it. You can see the pain in his face and it makes sense why he would take a suicide mission like rescuing Ovi Mahajan Junior from the middle of Dhaka Bangladesh, the kid is the son of an imprisoned Indian drug lord and he gets snatched by Amir Asif who runs things in Bangladesh, the ransom is too high so Ovis dad tells his main guy Saju to go get the kid back or his family is done and even though this seems very straight forward it works even tho its nothing new. What matters is how everything plays out once Tyler and his team hit the ground, that first action scene where Tyler busts into the building to grab Ovi is where the movie really kicks into gear, he clears rooms like its nothing, shooting dudes left and right, using whatever he can find to kill people including a freaking rake witch is just perfect considering his name and I bet the director did that on purpose. The way they filmed that massive sequence is incredible, the camera follows Tyler and Ovi through the streets of Dhaka as they are being chased by Amirs guys and corrupt cops, it goes from inside the car to outside to different angles but it never breaks the flow and you feel like you are right there running with them. The camera work is so smooth and the action never stops, people are getting shot, cars are crashing, Tyler is reloading and fighting hand to hand all at the same time, there is a moment where he fights a kid soldier and he doesnt want to kill him so he just slaps him around and takes his gun, then more kids show up and he has to fight like eight of them without actually hurting them too bad and its both funny and intense at the same time witch was a nice touch. The movie does not hold back on showing how brutal this world is, kids die in this movie, not just the soldier kids but innocent ones too and it hits hard every time, that scene early on where the cop just shoots Ovis friend in the head for no reason set the tone and you know this is not a fun action romp, people die for real and it matters. Source Source What is surprising is how you really start to care about Tyler and Ovis relationship becuase at first Tyler sees him as just another job but as they spend more time together you can see him starting to give a damn about this kid and Ovi is not annoying like a lot of kid characters in action movies. He is smart, he listens, he tries to help when he can and he actually kills someone to save Tyler witch shocks both of them, that scene where they sit down and talk about Tylers dead son is where their connection realy clicks, Tyler opens up about how he ran away instead of being there when his kid was dying from cancer and you can see the regret eating him alive and Ovi does not judge him. He just listens and from that point on they have each others backs no matter what, the kid even tries to help everytime he could, improvising and almost getting killed many times working things with Tyler, these two went from strangers to ride or die in like a day and it works because both actors sell it and you actually believe they care about each other witch is rare for this type of movie. The action never lets up tho, every fight scene is different and creative, Tyler uses knives, guns, his fists, whatever he can grab to stay alive and keep Ovi safe and the fight choreography was done by Sam Hargrave who also directed the movie and you can tell he knows his stuff since he worked as a stunt coordinator on Marvel movies. He brought that experience here but made it way more grounded and realistic, when Tyler fights Saju in an apartment building and goes down several floors into the streets and they both just beat the hell out of each other with no music, just the sound of fists hitting flesh and heavy breathing, its one of the most intense fight scenes Ive ever watched and it goes on for a while too. These two guys are both special forces, they both know how to kill, and they both have reasons to win so neither one holds back, the fight ends when they realize they are on the same side and team up to get Ovi out witch leads to the final bridge battle where all hell breaks loose and things get even more chaotic.

Source Source The ending is where the movie gets a bit messy for me because Tyler and Saju fight their way through what feels like the entire Bangladesh military to get Ovi to safety and while its cool to watch, it also feels a bit over the top even for an action movie like this, they really push it to the edge. Tyler gets shot like fifty times but keeps going witch I guess makes sense for his character since he has nothing to lose, Saju dies protecting the kid, actually killed by a sniper on the bridge scene and then Tyler makes his final stand to buy Ovi time to escape and he gets shot in the neck by that kid soldier Farhad whos been fighting the whole movie. He falls into the river, the movie cuts to black and you think he is dead but then eight months later there is a blurry figure watching Ovi at his school pool that might be Tyler and I really wish they had just let him die because it would have been a perfect ending. He sacrificed himself to save this kid and found redemption for failing his own son, instead they tease that he might be alive witch feels cheap and only exists to set up a sequel and we all know Netflix loves there sequels so I get why they did it but still. The final bridge sequence is intense as hell tho, watching Tyler take on an entire army while bleeding out is both brutal and kinda sad at the same time, you can see he is ready to die and he has finally found something worth dying for witch is saving Ovi and giving this kid a chance at life. The way they shoot it makes you feel every bullet, every punch, every moment of pain Tyler goes through and by the end you are exhausted just from watching him fight and thats probably the point of the hole thing, war is exhausting and so is Tylers life.

The Conjuring Last Rites is suppose to be this big emotional goodbye to Ed and Lorraine Warren but man it really feels like the movie is trying way too hard to make you cry instead of making you scared or more like this is passing the crown to her daughter but not really, at the end a few weeks latter they play the "Take Two" card and reveal its not over and they working on a spin off. This thing runs for two hours and fifteen minutes witch is just insane when you think about what we actually get, the first hour drags like crazy because were stuck watching Judy Warren and her boyfriend Tony do relationship stuff when we should be watching demons terrorize the Smurl family. I get that they wanted to make this personal and emotional since its the final movie with the Warrens but doesnt work that way, this is a horror movie about people fighting evil spirits not a romantic drama about some couple who met six months ago and now they want to get married. The movie does have some very creepy moments scattered around especially when it leans into that dark corner stuff from the first Conjuring where you know somethings there but you cant see it yet, that infinity mirror scene with Judy trying on wedding dresses was pretty cool to make it to the cover of this posts and the opening with Lorraine going into early labor because of the demon was intense too so yeah there are some cool moments and its the only reason I gave it a 7 and not a 6. But those moments get buried under all the boring family drama and by the time Ed and Lorraine finally show up at the haunted house you have already been sitting through an hour of filler content that nobody asked for, plus the CGI gets way too crazy in some parts and it takes you right out of the experience.

The movie starts back in 1964 with young Ed and Lorraine Warren checking out this antique shop because the owners father killed himself after he said something was following him around. Right away Lorraine who is very pregnant with Judy feels this presence coming from this creepy mirror and she decides she was gonna help whatever is trapped inside it, witch seems pretty condescending if you ask me like telling a demon you are gonna help it is probably not the smartest move but hey they were young I guess. The thing gets pissed off, the mirror cracks and it throws Lorraine into early labor right there in the basement while Ed is nowhere to be found because he just left her alone down there with a damn demon. The hospital scene is actually pretty horrifying because the baby comes out stillborn with the cord wrapped around her neck and you can see this demon crawling on the walls watching everything happen, I hope they were most specific to identify that specific demon as they have done before with Valak, it takes a full minute for the baby to start breathing and Lorraines begging God to bring her back but you gotta wonder if it was God or the demon that actually made that baby come back to life, sounds creepy to posses a newborn I KNOW I KNOW!!!. After that we get this long montage of Judy growing up and shes got the same psychic abilities as her mom but maybe even worse because she is constantly seeing visions and they keep trying to block them out with this stupid nursery rhyme, I have to say it felt cringe every time she show up repeating it over and over, weird we have seen Judy on other movies but I dont recall she saying this rhymes.

Source Then we jump to 1986 and meet the Smurl family whos living in this tiny house in Pennsylvania with like eight people crammed in there including grandparents and multiple kids. One of the daughters gets this giant creepy mirror as a gift for her first communion and the grandfather says he got a really good deal on it because the guy just wanted it gone, witch is always a red flag right there if you have been watching horror movies for a while. The mirror is already cracked from when Lorraine touched it back in 1964 and their dog hates it immediately witch is another huge red flag because you always trust the home dogo when they dont like something new in the house. The hauntings start right away with candles blowing out by themselves and then the entire ceiling collapses on the girl, the ceiling part I felt was a bit drastic to be honest almost killed her right away, if this movie was focused properly Heather the daughter would have been the main character until the Warrens showed up but thats not what happens at all, something like on the first Conjuring movie. Instead we keep cutting back to the Warrens and Judy and her boyfriend Tony who nobody cares about, we find out Tonys an ex cop who quit after he almost got shot in the face and now he is dating Judy after six months and already bought a wedding ring witch is insane. The Smurl family stuff is actually pretty creepy when the movie decides to focus on it, there was this scene where one of the girls goes into the pantry to hide and then later this creepy demon lady is just standing there holding that doll and smiling at her in broad daylight. The problem is the movie keeps jumping between the two families and it makes everything feel disjointed and messy, you never get to stay with one story long enough to actually feel scared.

Father Gordon from the first movie shows up to help the Smurl family because the church wont do anything and Ed and Lorraine are semi retired because of Eds heart problems. He goes to the house and starts blessing it with holy water and everything seems fine until he gets to the basement and the holy water starts burning on the stairs witch means shits about to get real bad. But then the movie does him so dirty because while he is waiting at the church to talk to some elders about getting official help the demon attacks him, the cables in the hallway start moving and the woman he was talking to just disappears and then his crucifix catches on fire and the demon makes him hang himself. I was like really they killing Father Gordon in the final movie??, I really thought things would ramp up after that but nope we gotta slow it back down and watch Ed give Tony a tour of the artifact room and have them play ping pong. That whole birthday party scene feels like its from a completely different movie and it just kills all the momentum, keeps creating this gaps between the getting to know family aspect to the horror part of the movie, on a horror movie you either get the audience trying to figure out the dark psychology behind it or just keep them scare but dont give me that much room to breath and turn on the lights. The artifact room scene is stupid too because Ed keeps telling everyone not to touch anything but then we know how that went couple of movies ago, if these objects are so dangerous then maybe keep that room locked up and secret instead of giving tours during your birthday party, keep them on a secure house something like that, secret place.

Source Eventually Judy starts having visions and she feels like somethings calling her to Pennsylvania so she just goes there by herself witch is the dumbest thing ever because when youre connected to evil spirits maybe dont follow the weird feelings you get. Ed and Lorraine find out and they drive down there to get their daughter and that is when they finally agree to help the Smurl family, Lorraine walks into the house and immediately feels the evil presence and she figures out there is three spirits there including some farmer guy who killed his wife and her mother with an axe back in the day. The house is built on what used to be their farmland and the mirror is somehow connected to all of it but the movie never really explains how any of this works, like why is this demon so focused on Judy specifically and what does it actually want. I was expecting some big data dump where they why and when the demon got focus on Judy but nope keep it for another spin off or sequel, the movie just stays vague the whole time. Meanwhile the Smurl family is still getting terrorized and one of the daughters starts puking up blood and mirror shards after the garbage truck compacted the mirror on trash day but then the mirror just magically reappears in the attic later with the same crack and everything witch makes no sense. How did it get back there and why didnt anyone notice it before, also that girl who was vomiting blood seems totally fine the next day like nothing even happened witch is ridiculous because she should have been in the hospital for weeks.

Even though Im a fan of the franchise I just hate how movies with the Warrens end, its all about the love for each other and all demons will be defeated, give me a talisman, a task, a rite something that is shocking. The hole exorcism rite was too much of the same and to make things worst then we get this long wedding scene where Judy and Tony get married and there was a bunch of cameos from people in the earlier movies including James Wan the director, Ed gives Tony the keys to the artifact room like he is passing on the family business witch makes me think they are setting up a spinoff with those two and I really hope they dont, but they did, that was the whole plan, never to end the franchise, I really really hope this doesnt turn into a Fast & Furious like. Lorraine tells Ed about a vision she had of their future where they grow old together and become grandparents and keep helping people over the phone, then the movie shows us what actually happened to the real Ed and Lorraine with Ed having a massive stroke at 74 and dying five years later and Lorraine following at 92. At the very end there is a disclaimer that says the mirror in the movie was actually from a completely different case where some guy was using it in rituals to summon spirits, so the whole thing with the Smurl family and the mirror was just made up for the movie witch is pretty generous considering how much they changed from the real story and I dont mind, Im here for the entertainment but there is a limit, if they wanted to make up the Judy stuff Im fine with it but stick to it. Now its well known and how exactly feels, like the Warren exaggerate their own cases to sell books and movie rights. Then again Im here to watch a horror movie and if they have focus more on the Smurl family and added Judy as her mothers sidekick and skip the entire boyfriend wedding thing could have been way better, now Im not saying I hate the movie its just my personal preference but I do feel like Ed and Lorraine didnt seem focus on the case and is the reason why they look like rushing out, not like in the other movies.

Okay so I just binged both episodes of Pluribus and this thing is weird as hell but its going to make you think a lot. Vince Gilligan really came back after all those years doing crime stuff with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul to give us some proper sci fi and even though Im sure this is not a series that is going to fit everyone as the story has some contradictory rules, basically you cant leave the brain at the door, this one is going to make you think again about life and humanity. The first episode was solid as hell, started with this whole countdown thing showing us 439 days before everything went to hell, we meet these scientists who pick up this signal from space and they figure out its not just random noise its actually a recipe for something that ends up being this virus or whatever you want to call it that turns everyone into this hive mind thing, it has to be a virus as how it changes everyone genetically although is it really a virus when it makes humans less destructive but at the same time takes everything there is to be a human?? I think thats the question. The hole thing felt very creepy when it started spreading, people shaking and convulsing then just snapping out of it all in sync like some old school Twilight Zone episode, the way they showed it was disturbing with the amount of people who died in the transition, if an event like this happen in real life would be the biggest massacre in history of human kind.

Source The show develops the story of Carol as the main character, who is this romance writer played by Rhea Seehorn and she absolutely kills it in this role, Carol hates her own books calls them mindless crap and you can tell she is just over everything in her life, she is miserable as hell and the only thing keeping her sane is her wife Helen who also happens to be her manager. I loved how they showed Carols relationship with Helen because it felt Helen had her back and put up with all Carol's angry management problems no matter what, at least for the short time they were together, you could see that Helen was the only person who truly understood Carol and cared about her happiness even when Carol was being a total ass about everything. The whole book tour sequence at the beginning was great because it showed us who Carol really is, she is successful she has money she has fans but none of that makes her happy because she is stuck writing these fantasy romance books that she doesnt give a damn about instead of the serious book she has been working on for five years called Bitter Chrysalis. That detail about the book she wants to write feels important because I bet by the end of this season or next season Carol is going to finish that book and it will mean something big for her character story or the very plan to restore humanity, or join them, this is just my imagination going wild. Helen even mentions James Joyce and how his book made people miserable but it was still worth it if it made even one person happy witch becomes a huge theme later on.

Source Episode one really picks up speed when Carol and Helen are at a bar celebrating their best book tour ever and Carol is just complaining about her fans calling them dummies, then they go outside for a smoke and thats when shit hits the fan real quick. While they are out in the parking lot Carol notice planes in the sky but it looks like they dropping some spray in the air, most likely the virus and thats when a truck crashes in the parking lot, Carol goes to help the driver and then Helen just drops to the ground and starts shaking like everyone else around them, Carol runs back inside the bar and everyones shaking and convulsing witch was intense as hell to watch. Rhea Seehorn puts up sch a great performance in these scenes because you can feel Carols panic and confusion, she has no idea whats going on, why all this people are just shaking with some falling on the floor and all she wants is for someone to help her save Helen. Carol manages to get Helen into a truck and drives to the hospital but its the same thing there, everyone is infected and when Helen wakes up for a brief moment you think maybe she is okay but then she dies right there in the back of the truck. That scene where Carol is trying to do chest compressions on Helen and begging for someone to help her was heartbreaking, you could see the desperation and fear in Carols face and it made the whole situation feel so real and heavy, her acting is so so good. After Helen dies all the infected people wake up and they all start talking in unison saying they just want to help Carol witch was creepy as hell, they try to take Helens body away but Carol tells them to stop and they actually listen witch was interesting because it shows they are not trying to hurt her they are actually trying to help her.

The rest of the first episode is Carol trying to process what just happened and dealing with the fact that the entire world has been taken over by this hive mind virus thing, she drives home and the city is on fire cars are crashed everywhere its total chaos. When she gets to her house she cant get inside because she left her keys in the car so she tries to break down the door with a rock, then her neighbors kids come out and they know exactly where she hid a spare key nine years ago witch is creepy because how the hell do they know that, it shows that the hive mind has access to everyone's memory and knowledge witch makes me start thinking about how this thing actually works, but latter one "they" mention to not knowing exactly how it works, making me think if this is just part of their plan or is it that this virus is really way ahead of human brain capacity, you would think that if every single human in the world is now in sync they could come up to understand how this hole thing wokrs. Carol finally gets inside and turns on the TV and theres a guy standing at a podium in the White House waiting for her to call a number on the screen, when she calls the guy explains that its not an alien invasion but they are the result of extraterrestrial technology, never call it a virus though as a virus is often an infection. The signal the scientists picked up at the beginning was made up of four tones that are basically the building blocks of RNA, they turned it into a virus and tested it on rats and one of the rats bit a scientist and thats how it started spreading to humans. The guy calls it a psychic glue that binds everyone's minds together and he admits they dont really know how it works it just does, Carol finds out she is one of only 12 people in the world who didnt get infected and the hive mind wants to figure out why so they can fix her and make her join them, they specifically mention they are here to help her not to hurt her and that her life is he owns but what happens if she says NO and refuse to join??.

Source Episode two is where things slowed down a bit for me and I started losing some steam as they start to give us crumbs of how things work, the episode opens with this character named Zosia who looks exactly like the pirate from Carols books and she flys in to check on Carol. The whole opening sequence with Zosia was cool because it showed how the hive mind operates when Carol is not around, they all move in sync they dont need to talk to each other they just know what everyone is thinking and doing. Zosia shows up at Carols house and tries to get her to drink water because apparently every doctor on Earth thinks Carol is about to pass out from heat exhaustion, Carol is out in the backyard digging a grave for Helen and she refuses to accept any help from the hive mind. Zosia ends up revealing that Helen joined the hive mind before she died witch pisses Carol off because that was supposed to be a secret between her and Helen, then Carol starts screaming at Zosia and then the entire hive mind glitches out and freezes witch was insane to watch, just put that picture in your head as you are the single human on Earth that can get piss off and because of your temper the entire human race falls into the floor and starts shacking. Carol realizes that her tantrum caused thousands of people to die and she gets sick about it, the hive mind tries to comfort her and they even bring in a mini excavator to help her bury Helen witch was funny but also showed how much power and resources they have at there disposal. Carol asks about the other people who are immune like her and Zosia tells her there are now 12 of them and they all agree to meet up in Spain, so far the Hive Mind is not holding back any secrets and its completely transparent but this Hive sounds more like an Ai and we alraedy know what happens with all this contradictory rules and how the classic number one rule "Never hurt a human" and how the second and third rules can be contradictory, it all end in chaos.

The meeting in Spain is where episode two really lost me because it was just way too much sitting around tables talking and debating with Carol been the only one who cares about humanity and not just been in paradise like the rest, Carol gives this big speech about how its up to them to save humanity but nobody is buying it because most of the people at the meeting have family members who got infected and they dont see it as a bad thing because there is no more crime, no more war, everyone is happy and connected, there is this guy named Diabate who is a total dick and he basically says the world is better off now so why would they want to fix it, I wonder who he was before this hole thing started. Carol tries to argue that individuality matters and freedom is important but she doesnt do a great job of selling it, been angry all the time doesnt help her neither. She even tells one of the girls that she doesnt really want to join her family witch is pretty contradictory to her whole argument about freedom and choice, the best part of the meeting was when Carol goes toe to toe with Lakshmi and points out that her son is not just her son anymore he is also her prime minister and a guy she dated in high school and her gynecologist, that shut Lakshmi up real quick but it didnt win Carol any fans. The hive mind reveals that 886 million people died during the joining witch is a huge number and way more than zero for a group that claims to do no killing, they try to justify it by saying they had to escalate because the military found out and they wanted to prevent more bloodshed. Then Lakshmi drops the bomb that Carols outburst killed 11 million people witch completely undermines everything Carol has been trying to say, after that Carol just starts pounding glasses of wine and yelling at everyone calling them traitors to the human race before passing out in the yard.

I have a tender love for Japanese culture from anime to film and influencers, so I was happy to see that Memoirs of a Geisha was free to watch on Youtube.

On the surface, it's this stunning, epic story about a geisha's rise in 20th-century Japan.

The costumes, the atmosphere—all breathtaking. But what really got me this time was how sharp its commentary feels on the ways women navigate a world built by and for wealthy men.

You watch Sayuri learn that her entire value is a performance—her beauty, her art, her conversation are all a product to be sold.

It’s framed as this elegant tradition, but it’s a survival strategy in a system where men hold all the financial power. Sound familiar?

It’s hard not to see the modern parallels.

Today, women are still incentivized to sell themselves—whether through social media, corporate persona, or literal side hustles—yet get labeled or demonized for participating in the service that demands it.

I don't want to make everything about the Epstein case but it's just insane to me that our world leaders are caught up in this scenario.

The movie quietly asks:

who really holds the power, the one selling an illusion or the one who profits from buying it?

A beautiful, complicated film that’s less about a lost world and more about one that’s still uncomfortably here.
