The inaugural season of Star Trek: The Next Generation remains a deeply contentious period for even the most ardent devotees of the franchise. Laden with the impossible burden of following the cultural phenomenon of the original series, compounded by Gene Roddenberry’s increasingly rigid vision for his "optimistic future," the production was beset by creative turbulence, wildly inconsistent scripting, jarring tonal inconsistencies, and the ignominious departure of a core cast member. Expectations, perpetually sky-high amongst the trekkie faithful, were frequently dashed against the rocks of undercooked concepts and technical limitations. Yet, amidst this maelstrom of frustration, few episodes proved as genuinely shocking, as memorably disturbing, or as unexpectedly effective as the penultimate offering of that troubled season: Conspiracy.

Conspiracy also represents a significant, albeit early, departure from the strictly episodic format that defined The Original Series (TOS), a trend that would become increasingly prominent in later Trek iterations. It functions as a direct narrative sequel to the earlier first-season episode, Coming of Age. This subtle weaving of continuity, rare in TNG's debut year, lends the paranoia and urgency a greater sense of consequence. The plot ignites when Captain Jean-Luc Picard, commanding the USS Enterprise-D on a routine scientific mission near Pacifica, receives a clandestine communication from his old friend, Captain Walker Keel (Jonathan Farwell) of the USS Horatio. Keel’s message is urgent and deeply unsettling, demanding an immediate, secret rendezvous to discuss a matter threatening the very security of the United Federation of Planets. Heeding the call, Picard diverts to the derelict mining colony of Dytallix B. Data’s meticulous analysis of Starfleet personnel transfers and command decisions reveals statistically improbable patterns matching Keel’s observations. The grim confirmation arrives moments later: the Enterprise detects debris consistent with the USS Horatio, apparently destroyed. This tragic event also validates the cryptic warnings Rear Admiral Quinn (Ward Costello) had conveyed to Picard during a tense visit to the Enterprise months earlier in Coming of Age. Convinced of the conspiracy’s reality, Picard alters course for Earth, intending to confront Quinn directly at Starfleet Command.

His reception, however, is profoundly disorienting. Admiral Quinn, when met, completely disavows his previous concerns, claiming his earlier doubts were unfounded paranoia. Simultaneously, Picard is invited to an exclusive, seemingly routine dinner with three senior Admirals at Starfleet Headquarters. The atmosphere is thick with unspoken tension. Back aboard the Enterprise, the situation escalates violently: Quinn beams over under false pretences and attempts to implant a grotesque, insectoid parasite – which he chillingly refers to as a "superior form of life" – into Commander Riker. A brutal physical struggle ensues; Riker’s resistance is overcome by Quinn’s unnatural strength, and both Geordi La Forge and Worf are swiftly incapacitated before Dr. Crusher intervenes, stunning the Admiral with her phaser. This attack confirms the horrifying truth: the parasites are real, and they are seizing control of Starfleet’s highest echelons.

The climax unfolds at Starfleet Command. Picard, attending the aforementioned dinner, is presented with bizarre, living larvae as part of the meal – a horrifyingly clear sign the assembled Admirals are hosts. Just as the trap seems sprung, Commander Riker beams down, apparently infected and joining the gathering. In a masterful twist, Riker reveals his feigned infection, drawing his weapon and opening fire, providing Picard the crucial distraction needed. They confront Dexter Remmick (Robert Schenkkan), whose body harbours the central "mother" organism. A desperate firefight culminates in Picard and Riker destroying both Remmick and the monstrous creature erupting from his torso. Admiral Quinn is later successfully treated, and Starfleet seemingly purged. Yet, Data’s final observation, noting a persistent, unexplained beacon originating from Earth, leaves a lingering, deeply unsettling question: had they truly eradicated the infestation?

It is undeniable that the core premise – a parasitic invasion subverting humanity from within – is far from original science fiction. Veteran fans would instantly recognise echoes of Jack Finney’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Robert A. Heinlein’s The Puppet Masters. Ironically, this very scenario was Roddenberry’s imposition. He vehemently rejected earlier script drafts depicting a more conventional, human-led coup within Starfleet, deeming such internal power struggles fundamentally incompatible with his utopian vision of the 24th century. This creative intervention, however, proved double-edged. While arguably diluting the political intrigue, it directly enabled the episode’s single most infamous and unforgettable moment: the graphic, gory destruction of Dexter Remmick. As laser fire strikes him, his head violently explodes, disgorging the writhing, multi-limbed mother organism in a sequence of shocking visceral horror. Critics immediately drew parallels to the body terror of Alien, The Thing, or Cronenberg’s Scanners. This level of explicit gore was deemed utterly unacceptable for broadcast television, particularly within the context of Star Trek, leading to the scene being heavily censored or the entire episode banned outright on several networks, cementing its controversial legacy.

On a strictly technical level, however, "Conspiracy" is exceptionally well-executed for its era. Makeup maestro Michael Westmore delivered effects of astonishing quality, particularly the central parasite creature and the infamous head explosion, work that rightly earned him the Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Makeup for a Series. While some elements, such as the stop-motion claymation used to depict the smaller parasites scurrying, appear undeniably dated to modern eyes, the overall craftsmanship remains impressive. This technical prowess is matched by Tracy Tormé’s intelligent script. It masterfully builds suspense through the Dytallix B meeting, the Horatio’s destruction, and the tense infiltration of Starfleet Command. The narrative twists – Quinn’s reversal, Riker’s feigned infection – are genuinely effective, propelling the episode with relentless momentum. The final tease of the Earth-based beacon, while a familiar trope of 1980s sci-fi horror, was wisely never pursued in subsequent TNG seasons or series. This restraint prevents it from feeling like a cheap setup and instead allows "Conspiracy" to stand as a unique, self-contained nightmare within the Trek universe.

Cliff Bolen’s direction is equally crucial to the episode’s success. He crafts a palpable atmosphere of dread and paranoia, particularly in the shadowy, atmospheric sequences on Dytallix B, showcasing excellent production design for the abandoned colony. The action sequences, especially the brutal fight involving Quinn, Riker, Geordi, and Worf, possess a raw physicality uncommon in early TNG. Furthermore, the episode holds the distinction of being the first in The Next Generation to feature scenes set on Earth itself (Starfleet Command in San Francisco), a significant expansion of the show’s visual scope. The casting, particularly the inclusion of the unforgettable Michael Berryman as Captain Rixx, not only served the immediate plot but inadvertently seeded a new species into Trek lore.

If a single element feels distinctly out of place, it is Data’s intermittent, somewhat forced attempts at comic relief, particularly his laboured efforts to "understand humour" during tense moments. At the end of the day, Conspiracy represents a fascinating paradox of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s tumultuous first season. Born from Roddenberry’s controversial creative mandates and the production’s general instability, it embraced a level of graphic horror deemed anathema to the franchise’s perceived family-friendly ethos, resulting in significant censorship. Its core concept, while derivative, was executed with remarkable technical skill, intelligent scripting, and taut direction. It dared to break format with subtle continuity, introduced lasting lore elements (the Bolians, Earth settings), and delivered a finale of shocking brutality that resonated precisely because it violated expectations. For all its controversies and the season’s surrounding mediocrity, Conspiracy transcends its origins. It is not merely a "better" Season One episode; it is a genuinely gripping, suspenseful, and thematically rich piece of science fiction horror that demonstrated the nascent series’ potential for bold storytelling, even when that boldness risked alienating its core audience. Its enduring memorability, decades later, is testament not just to its shock value, but to its fundamental effectiveness as a tightly wound, expertly crafted thriller – a dark, disturbing jewel in the otherwise rough-hewn crown of TNG’s difficult debut.

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que se encuentren muy bien. El día de ayer terminé de ver la primera temporada de la serie Severance de Apple Tv+. Realmente no tenía muchas ganas de verla ya que me parecía que el tema de la ciencia ficción en una historia me aburriría pero paso todo lo contrario, en más de dos días termine de verla y me encantó. Mi hermana me recomendó verla ya que ella la vio hace bastante tiempo y juntas disfrutamos de ver la primera temporada que tiene tantas cosas que te enganchan como el uso de la tecnología, el tener vidas paralelas, la historia de cada personaje, los escenarios increíbles que muestran y la perturbación de los personajes al darse cuenta de que están atrapados en una empresa creada para utilizar a personas que no quieran vivir dentro de su propia realidad y que en esta empresa encuentran un lugar donde pueden escapar de lo que han vivido en la vida real.

Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are doing great. Yesterday I finished watching the first season of the series Severance on Apple Tv+. I really didn't want to watch it because I thought that the science fiction theme in a story would bore me but it was the opposite, in more than two days I finished watching it and I loved it. My sister recommended me to watch it since she saw it quite some time ago and together we enjoyed watching the first season which has so many things that hook you like the use of technology, having parallel lives, the history of each character, the incredible scenarios they show and the disturbance of the characters when they realize that they are trapped in a company created to use people who do not want to live within their own reality and that in this company they find a place where they can escape from what they have lived in real life.

La trama nos cuenta la historia de Mark (Adam Scott) un hombre que toma la decisión de seguir el procedimiento de la empresa Lumon Industries quienes se encargan de captar a personas que por alguna razón desean poder escapar de la realidad que viven y este procedimiento se lleva a cabo colocando un chip dentro del cerebro de cada persona, lo que les permite que puedan pasar la semana en la empresa trabajando con normalidad pero sin recordar nada de lo que es su vida fuera de este lugar. Lumon es vista cómo la peor plaga que llegó a la ciudad y para muchos es una completa locura el pasar por un procedimiento donde básicamente dentro del trabajo eres una persona y afuera vuelves a tu vida normal sin recordar que hiciste o que vistes dentro de este lugar.

The plot tells the story of Mark (Adam Scott) a man who decides to follow the procedure of the company Lumon Industries who are responsible for capturing people who for some reason want to escape from the reality they live and this procedure is carried out by placing a chip inside the brain of each person, allowing them to spend the week in the company working normally but without remembering anything of what your life is outside of this place. Lumon is seen as the worst plague to hit the city and for many it is complete madness to go through a procedure where basically inside the work you are a person and outside you go back to your normal life without remembering what you did or what you saw inside this place.

La serie dirigida por Ben Stiller y estrenada en el año 2022 captó la atención de las personas por la trama y los personajes que se encuentran dentro de Lumon, dónde se vive una completa locura en un lugar donde no se hace un trabajo cómo cualquier otro de oficina, básicamente pasan el tiempo recolectando números y el que consiga completar el trabajo puede recibir premios como comida o alguna oportunidad de conocer más de la empresa. The series directed by Ben Stiller and premiered in the year 2022 captured people's attention for the plot and the characters that are inside Lumon, where they live a complete madness in a place where they don't do a job like any other office, basically they spend their time collecting numbers and whoever manages to complete the job can receive prizes like food or a chance to learn more about the company. The technology used by the company is really intriguing and in the first season it is not really told why they use people to keep them in a place where they live together as if they were robots and where they keep them with absurd rules and based on lies about who they are and the life they have in the real world.

Mark es el personaje principal, un hombre que lucha con la muerte de su esposa y el duelo que no ha sabido sobrellevar, esto lo llevo a buscar una alternativa que hiciera que al menos pudiera dejar de sentir y no tener que enfrentar su dolor. En la empresa el es el que está encargado de la oficina como jefe del departamento y es el que siempre les recuerda las reglas y la importancia de hacer que el trabajo siempre esté listo sin tener mucha curiosidad de quien es el realmente afuera de ese lugar. Pero cuando reúnen al grupo del departamento donde están Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry) y llega una nueva empleada llamada Helly (Britt Lower), las cosas se ponen tensas y se crea una atmósfera donde empiezan a aparecer las preguntas y las dudas sobre estar en ese lugar y el por qué de la decisión que tomaron sus versiones reales.

Mark is the main character, a man who struggles with the death of his wife and the grief he has not been able to cope, this led him to seek an alternative that would at least make him stop feeling and not have to face his pain. In the company he is the one who is in charge of the office as head of the department and is the one who always reminds them of the rules and the importance of making sure that the work is always ready without being very curious about who is really outside that place. But when they gather the group of the department where Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and a new employee named Helly (Britt Lower) arrive, things get tense and an atmosphere is created where the questions and doubts about being in that place and the reason for the decision made by their real versions begin to appear.

Está serie es súper entretenida, tiene ciencia ficción combinada con drama, misterio y thriller. Cuenta con unos actores increíbles que hacen que la serie se sienta más interesante cada vez que vas avanzando en cada capítulo. This series is super entertaining, it has science fiction combined with drama, mystery and thriller. It has incredible actors that make the series feel more interesting every time you go forward in each chapter. The idea that there is a company that recruits people who for some reason do not want to be present in their reality is something super weird and even more that there is a totally minimalist place, full of endless corridors and rooms where the characters make life, both to learn more about the place and where many times they can receive punishments where they make them record themselves for evidence that they do want to be there is super crazy, but this makes the story more interesting and you finish watching it.

La tecnología puede ser usada tanto para cosas positivas como también negativas, en esta historia no se revelan las verdaderas intenciones de quienes trabajan allí y de los altos mandos que realmente nunca muestran su rostro a los trabajadores. Technology can be used for both positive and negative things, in this story the true intentions of those who work there and the top management who never really show their faces to the workers are not revealed. It is from the beginning a cloud full of questions and moments of uncertainty, the characters are interested at some point to know the reason that led them to take this treatment and flee their lives in the real world, there are key characters such as Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) who holds the position of supervisor and besides always being aware of things happening within the company, She has a strange attitude outside the place where she pretends to be someone else and is Mark's neighbor, so she always keeps a close eye on him and will be an important part of this season and the things that will be revealed and the dramas behind Lumon and each character.

A pesar de que los personajes dentro de la empresa se comportan como robots, después de la llegada de Helly una mujer que no está de acuerdo con la decisión que tomo su versión humana, todos empiezan a replantearse si realmente quieren estar allí y buscan la forma de ver sus realidades aunque tengan miedo de lo que pueda suceder. Hay escenas de acción y de tensión dentro de toda la historia y me gustó mucho haber visto la primera temporada, realmente me pareció una trama muy original y que tiene mucho por contar, ya comencé la segunda temporada y les contaré en otro post que me pareció cuando la termine de ver. Espero puedan verla porque está muy entretenida y es diferente de lo que vemos en series 🫨.

Although the characters within the company behave like robots, after the arrival of Helly, a woman who does not agree with the decision taken by her human version, they all begin to rethink if they really want to be there and look for ways to see their realities even if they are afraid of what might happen. There are scenes of action and tension within the whole story and I really liked having seen the first season, I really thought it was a very original plot and has a lot to tell, I have already started the second season and I will tell you in another post what I thought when I finish watching it. I hope you can watch it because it is very entertaining and different from what we see in series 🫨.

Season 3's Homecoming (Episode 6) stands as a particularly illuminating example, demonstrating how many of the city's tragedies stem from characters' profound inability to recognise who they truly are or acknowledge their own limitations. Whether characters survive or succumb often hinges on their capacity to confront these unpleasant truths—a theme that permeates the episode with devastating clarity.

Stringer Bell epitomises this tragic self-deception in Homecoming. Once the cerebral Machiavellian street player, Stringer's apparent ascent into legitimate business reveals his fundamental miscalculation about his own capabilities. His ambitious plan to invest in real estate development—ostensibly his ticket out of the drug trade—collides with unexpected snags and, more significantly, with costs far exceeding his calculations. Unlike the streets where he operated with ruthless efficiency, Stringer finds himself completely outmatched in the boardroom. His business partner Krawczyk and corrupt state senator Clay Davis systematically exploit his naivety, milking him for every dollar while offering little in return. This isn't merely bad business; it's a fundamental misreading of his own position. Stringer believes he's playing the same game he mastered on the corners, but he fails to recognise that the rules have changed entirely. As Rafael Alvarez's script reveals, Stringer is operating under the delusion that he belongs in this world when, in truth, he's merely a pawn being played by those whose ruthlessness makes even his own seem quaint.

This contrast becomes even starker when juxtaposed with Avon Barksdale's return from prison. Avon, Stringer's nominal boss, represents the opposite extreme—not self-deception about capability, but brutal self-awareness. Upon his release, Avon immediately rejects Stringer's "kinder and gentler" business strategy, openly declaring himself what he always was: "a gangster." His retaliatory hit against Marlo Stanfield's crew, designed to reclaim lost territory, showcases this uncompromising self-knowledge. Avon dispatches Slim Charles (Anwan Glover) and Cutty—veterans of 1990s gang wars—to execute a sensible plan. Yet the operation unravels when young, trigger-happy Barksdale soldiers act prematurely, getting themselves killed. In their second attempt, Cutty faces his target but cannot pull the trigger. This moment crystallises the episode's central theme: Cutty recognises he "doesn't have it in him" anymore and freely admits this to Avon. Rather than reacting with betrayal, Avon respects Cutty's honesty, allowing him to leave the organisation on good terms. This exchange—rare in its humanity within the series—demonstrates that survival sometimes depends not on maintaining a false image but on the courage to admit one's limitations.

Major Colvin similarly overestimates his abilities, though in a different arena. His creation of the drug-free zone—a radical social experiment—stumbles when he fails to anticipate that one of the houses flanking the open-air market houses an elderly resident who refuses to leave. Colvin's "solution"—relocating her to what he believes is a safe home in a secure part of the city—is revealed to be a ruse, as the property is actually a safe house for major crime witnesses. This error exposes Colvin's fundamental misunderstanding of human nature. He believes he can outmanoeuvre institutional constraints through sheer will, failing to recognise the complex web of rules and consequences that govern even well-intentioned interventions.

McNulty provides another compelling study in self-deception, this time in the realm of personal relationships. His complete inability to "read the room" manifests in his mistaken belief that he and Tina d'Agostino share a future following their one-night stand. In reality, Tina has moved on, actively supporting Carcetti's mayoral campaign. Carcetti himself demonstrates sophisticated political manipulation, convincing Tina to back his "longshot" campaign through a Machiavellian scheme involving his friend Gray—a Black candidate whose sole purpose is to split the Black vote, thereby enabling Carcetti, a white candidate in a predominantly Black city, to win.

The strained marriage between Lt. Daniels and his wife Marla represents another poignant exploration of self-deception. By this point in the series, it's evident their relationship is over, yet Daniels maintains the charade solely to support Marla's political ambitions for City Council. In a revealing exchange with his lover Rhonda Pearlman, Daniels admits that Marla previously encouraged his own political aspirations before he realised that being a police detective—working actual cases—was what he truly enjoyed. This admission underscores the episode's recurring theme: characters often pursue paths based on external expectations rather than internal truths, with Daniels only recently achieving the self-awareness to recognise his authentic professional identity.

Omar Little, the series' most iconic character, receives particularly nuanced treatment in Homecoming. While his stick-up antics continue to inspire street children, recent events have forced him to confront the human cost of his lifestyle. Bunk Moreland, investigating a case involving Omar's crew member Tosha, serves as the voice of this confrontation. Unlike previous interactions where Omar could deflect with bravado, Bunk challenges him to acknowledge the tragedy he's caused. Omar remains unfazed outwardly, but the scene reveals cracks in his carefully constructed persona—the self-image of a Robin Hood figure doesn't align with the reality of the pain he causes. This tension between public perception and private reality defines Omar's character arc throughout the series.

Aired mid-season and written by Rafael Alvarez, Homecoming exemplifies the high-quality television that The Wire had become by the early 2000s. The violence occurs in quick, realistic bursts rather than stylised set pieces, thanks to Leslie Libman's unflinching direction. This aesthetic choice reinforces the series' commitment to portraying urban violence without sentimentality or glorification—a philosophy that permeates every frame.

The episode also contains fascinating meta-commentary, most notably when Omar and his lover Dante watch fictional gay characters Beecher and Kellerman on HBO's Oz—another groundbreaking series from the same network. This moment subtly acknowledges the interconnectedness of television narratives and is quiet but significant acknowledgment of how media shapes and reflects societal attitudes.

However, the most memorable moment comes when Bunk Moreland—previously serving primarily as comic relief—confronts Omar on a bench, becoming the unexpected voice of moral clarity. In this pivotal scene, Bunk attacks the popular street hero for being exactly the same kind of problem as Avon or Marlo, challenging the audience's romanticised view of Omar. Some might criticise the theatricality of this confrontation, but it fits perfectly within The Wire's context. Bunk's semi-nostalgic reference to "good old days" when even players in "the Game" knew their limits—days when they wouldn't allow young Bunk to join their ranks—contrasts sharply with the current generation of psychopaths like Marlo who recognise no boundaries. Evil Dead Rise me salió justo como yo esperaba después de tanto tiempo esperando otra película de esta franquicia que tanto me gusta y una de estas noches paseando por streaming me dije conchale si esta peli yo la vi porque no hablé nunca de ella, así que la volví a ver para refrescar porque aunque tiene algunas cosas que no me gustaron para nada en sí la peli me la disfruté. Esta nueva entrega de Evil Dead trajo muchax cosas interesantes y nuevas a este mundo infernal que, la historia funciona bien combinando el humor negro con efectos prácticos brutales y creando escenas de gore originales y muy bien hechas que me dejaron con la boca abierta. Los personajes a pesar de que no son gran cosa si funcionan bien dentro del contexto de la película y digamos que cumplen con su función sin problemas, aunque las actuaciones se sintieron raras y débiles más que todo las de los niños que fueron bastante malas, además las decisiones de los personajes fueron muy estúpidas e ilógicas solamente para generar suspenso barato y eso es algo que me molestó bastante. Sin embargo me gustó mucho esta película y el final fue absolutamente brutal y sangriento, espero que hagan más películas de Evil Dead porque esta franquicia tiene mucho potencial todavía.

Esta nueva película de Evil Dead definitivamente es diferente a las anteriores pero mantiene esa esencia sanguinaria y violenta que uno esperamo de esta saga, el cambio de la cabaña tradicional hacia un edificio fue me pareció una decisión muy inteligente porque le dió un aire fresco y claustrofóbico que funciona muy bien para este tipo de historias. Lee Cronin hizo un trabajo decente como director y más si uno considera que este es apenas su segunda peli después de The Hole in the Ground, a mí me parece que logró crear una atmósfera tensa y opresiva de esas que te mantienen incómodo durante toda la película y eso es lo que necesita una buena película de horror. Los efectos especiales son probablemente lo mejor de toda la película, el maquillaje y los efectos prácticos están increíblemente bien hechos y realmente se nota el presupuesto y el cuidado que pusieron en cada detalle gore, desde las heridas hasta las transformaciones de los demonios todo se ve brutal y realista. La historia en si misma es bastante simple y directa, dos hermanas que se reencuentran después de mucho tiempo y terminan luchando por sus vidas cuando los demonios salen de su escondite gracias a que un niño curioso decidió reproducir unas grabaciones malditas que encontró en un banco abandonado debajo del edificio. Beth que se dedica a trabajar con sonido ha estado viajando por el mundo con una banda de rock y regresa a Los Angeles para reconectarse con su hermana Ellie quien está criando sola a sus tres hijos después de que su esposo las abandonara, la dinámica familiar se sirelacuón famliar que hay entre ellos es bastante autentica y creíble hasta que todo se va al carajo y comienza la masacre. Danny es el hijo mayor que encuentra el libro maldito y accidentalmente desata el mal al reproducir las grabaciones del sacerdote, Bridget es la hija adolescente rebelde y Cassie es la niña pequeña que se convierte en el corazón emocional de la película, todos estos personajes tienen personalidades definidas aunque no muy profundas pero están bien desarrollados para que te importe lo que les pasa. Algo que le da puntos extra es que el apartamento se siente como un lugar real donde vive una familia de clase trabajadora y no como un set de película artificial, todos los detalles desde los muebles hasta la ropa están y como uo me fijo mucho en esas cosas eso hace que uno se sienta más metido en la historia.

Los demonios en esta película son bien brutales y despiadados, no hay compasión ni humanidad restante en ellos y eso los hace mucho más aterradores que en entregas anteriores donde a veces tenían un toque cómico, aquí son pura maldad concentrada y su único objetivo es causar el máximo sufrimiento posible. Alyssa Sutherland hace un trabajo excepcional interpretando a Ellie una vez que se convierte en demonio porque su transformación va poco a poco y esto es lgo perturbador y realmente logra crear un personaje aterrador que te pone los pelos de punta cada vez que aparece. La forma en que los efectos prácticos se combinan con actuaciones convincentes hace que las escenas de posesión se vean más reales y viscerales, digame esa parte cuando Ellie comienza a aterrorizar a su propia familia de formas cada vez mas creativas y sádicas. El clímax de la película donde todos los demonios se fusionan en una monstruosidad gigante es completamente loco y excesivo pero funciona bien dentro del contexto de la franquicia, es el tipo de locura que esperas de Evil Dead llevada al extremo con efectos espectaculares. Para mí yo creo que la escena del ascensor lleno de sangre es probablemente una de las escenas mejores de toda la película, porque te genera muchas cosas como claustrofobia, repugnancia y es aterradora al mismo tiempo, eso demuestra la habilidad de Cronin para crear tensión.

Ahora cual es el problema que tengo con la película o mejor dicho que fue lo que no me gustó es que las actuaciones de los niños no están a la altura de los demás, y esto se ve muco en los momentos mas dramáticos donde necesitas creer realmente en las emociones que están sintiendo estos personajes, y me pareció que era muy artificial y sobreactuado en varias ocasiones importantes. Además hay demasiados momentos donde los personajes toman decisiones completamente estúpidas solo para avanzar la trama o crear situaciones de suspenso forzado, como cuando Kassie abre la puerta para dejar entrar a su mamá que obviamente está poseída o cuando no aprovechan oportunidades claras para escapar del edificio. La película también sufre de algunos momentos donde el ritmo se vuelve lento y y eso hace que pierdas el momento, esto más que yodo pasa a mitad de la peli donde parece que no sabe muy bien hacia donde ir con la historia y se queda estancada por unos minutos. Sin embargo estos problemas no arruinan la experiencia porque cuando la película funciona realmente funciona bien y te mantiene pegado a la pantalla esperando a ver que locura va a pasar después, por esto yo le doy un 7/10, además que no es tan mala porque la vi por segunda vez jajaja y el final es bastante salvaje y compensa por la mayoría de los defectos que pueda tener la película en general.

The characters, although they are not great, they work well within the context of the film and let's say that they fulfill their role without problems, although the performances felt weird and weak, especially those of the children who were pretty bad, also the decisions of the characters were very stupid and illogical just to generate cheap suspense and that is something that bothered me a lot. However I really liked this movie and the ending was absolutely brutal and bloody, I hope they make more Evil Dead movies because this franchise still has a lot of potential.

This new Evil Dead movie is definitely different from the previous ones but it keeps that bloodthirsty and violent essence that one expects from this saga, the change from the traditional cabin to a building was I thought a very smart decision because it gave it a fresh and claustrophobic air that works very well for this kind of stories. Lee Cronin did a decent job as a director and even more if one considers that this is only his second movie after The Hole in the Ground, I think he managed to create a tense and oppressive atmosphere that keeps you uncomfortable during the whole movie and that's what a good horror movie needs. The special effects are probably the best of the whole movie, the makeup and practical effects are incredibly well done and you can really notice the budget and the care they put in every gore detail, from the wounds to the demons transformations everything looks brutal and realistic. I also have to talk about the sound because it helps build that sense of desperation and chaos that dominates the film, every strange noise and awkward silence is well placed to make an impact on you.

The story itself is pretty simple and straightforward, two sisters who meet again after a long time and end up fighting for their lives when the demons come out of hiding thanks to a curious boy who decided to play some cursed recordings he found in an abandoned bench under the building. Beth who works in sound has been traveling the world with a rock band and returns to Los Angeles to reconnect with her sister Ellie who is raising her three children alone after her husband abandoned them, the family dynamic between them is quite authentic and believable until it all goes to hell and the massacre begins. Danny is the oldest son who finds the cursed book and accidentally unleashes evil by playing the priest's recordings, Bridget is the rebellious teenage daughter and Cassie is the little girl who becomes the emotional heart of the film, all these characters have defined personalities although not very deep but they are well developed to make you care about what happens to them. Something that gives it extra points is that the apartment feels like a real place where a working class family lives and not like an artificial movie set, all the details from the furniture to the clothes are there and since I pay a lot of attention to those things it makes you feel more involved in the story.

The demons in this movie are very brutal and ruthless, there is no compassion or humanity left in them and that makes them much more terrifying than in previous installments where sometimes they had a comic touch, here they are pure concentrated evil and their only goal is to cause as much suffering as possible. Alyssa Sutherland does an exceptional job playing Ellie once she becomes a demon because her transformation goes little by little and this is somewhat disturbing and she really manages to create a terrifying character that makes your hair stand on end every time she appears. The way the practical effects are combined with convincing performances makes the possession scenes look more real and visceral, say that part when Ellie starts terrorizing her own family in increasingly creative and sadistic ways. The climax of the movie where all the demons merge into one giant monstrosity is completely insane and over the top but it works well within the context of the franchise, it's the kind of insanity you expect from Evil Dead taken to the extreme with spectacular effects. For me I think the elevator scene full of blood is probably one of the best scenes in the whole movie, because it generates you a lot of things like claustrophobia, disgust and it's terrifying at the same time, that shows Cronin's ability to create tension.

Now what is the problem I have with the movie or rather what I didn't like is that the performances of the children are not up to par with the others, and this is seen a lot in the most dramatic moments where you need to really believe in the emotions that these characters are feeling, and I thought it was very artificial and overacted in several important occasions. There are also too many moments where the characters make completely stupid decisions just to advance the plot or create forced suspenseful situations, like when Kassie opens the door to let her obviously possessed mom in or when they don't take advantage of clear opportunities to escape the building. The film also suffers from some moments where the pace becomes slow and you lose the momentum, this mostly happens in the middle of the movie where it doesn't seem to know where to go with the story and gets stuck for a few minutes. However these problems don't ruin the experience because when the movie works it really works well and keeps you glued to the screen waiting to see what crazy thing is going to happen next, for this I give it a 7/10, plus it's not that bad because I saw it for the second time hahaha and the ending is pretty wild and makes up for most of the flaws the movie may have in general.

Al inicio se perciben muchas situaciones incómodas, debido a que la actriz no tiene mucho conocimiento del rubro y suele ser algo torpe en ocasiones, pero poco a poco se convierte en una historia de crecimiento personal.

Se planteó como objetivo el cumplir de manera correcta su rol de secretaria, llegan a tal punto de vincularse a nuevos casos o situaciones que debía lidiar Jung Rok. La trama empieza a profundizar cuando nuestros protagonistas averiguan el caso de una adolescente que es acosada y drogada por su pareja, a tal punto de sentirse insegura debido al control que este quería tener hacia la víctima; Yoon Seo decide apoyar este caso ya que se sintió identificada tras todo el acoso que recibió anteriormente y no pudo defenderse como correspondía.

Ese momento ya es valioso como serie, ya que ese es el punto de partida para nuestra protagonista, donde reconstruye su identidad y aprende a enfrentar el juicio social y las cámaras con mucha más firmeza. Desde mi perspectiva, este mensaje que nos brinda tanto la trama como la protagonista es algo inspirador, especialmente para quienes han sentido algún peso o circunstancia similar.

OH YOON SEO Y KWON JUNG ROK, PERSONAJES QUE DEMUESTRAN UNA QUÍMICA GENUINA:

Como mencioné anteriormente, uno de los grandes atractivos de este k-drama es la química entre nuestros protagonistas, debido a que ya nos habían cautivado y roto el corazón tras el K-drama Goblin (AVISO QUE NO ES NECESARIO VER ESE K-DRAMA ANTES YA QUE NO TIENEN VÍNCULO ALGUNO, SÓLO LOS ACTORES). Aquí se observa como retoman esa complicidad pero de un tono más sutil, romántico y sobre todo cómico. Tanto la personalidad de ambos personajes genera que incluso en las escenas más tranquilas o sencillas transmitan ternura y sea realista.

A pesar de que la trama gira a temas serios como el acoso mediático y la difamación. Parte de la trama también es caracterizado por el tono cálido, divertido y sobre todo romántico. El guion empieza a utilizar el contraste de la torpeza de nuestra protagonista con el profesionalismo de Jung Rok, el cual genera situaciones únicas (Y lo mejor es que no se siente algo forzado).

Una vez que nuestros protagonistas empiezan a convivir en este ambiente lleno de torpezas y emociones, Jung Rok empieza con abrirse emocionalmente y demostrar como realmente es ante Yoon Seo, y ella encuentra en él una persona que muy aparte de ser profesional, encuentra un apoyo que no la juzga por su pasado. Este crecimiento de nuestros personajes evoluciona gracias al vínculo que construyen juntos.

DETALLES QUE ME GUSTARON Y QUIERO DESTACAR Y QUE COSAS PUDO MEJORAR:

• Las puestas en escenas, nos transmiten colores suaves y momentos que transmiten calidez y no se siente algo superficial y forzado. Visualmente es muy agradable de ver con los escenarios llenos de química y momentos significativos. El realismo que le ponen alrededor de la trama, toca ciertos casos (Sobre todo los casos criminales que llevan a corte), que de alguna u otra forma le brindan mucho realismo a la trama.

• La música de fondo, las canciones (O también conocido como OST) son preciosas... las que más me gustaron fueron "make it count" y "what if love".

• El romance que manejan nuestros protagonistas, definitivamente no imagino otros actores interpretando esos personajes, tanto como la seriedad, el porte y el carisma que demuestran es algo muy particular de los dos... y cuando se juntan, podemos ver una obra muy linda para disfrutar.

• Los mensajes que tiene y nos inspira sobre la resiliencia, el trabajo que debe realizar uno mismo con el autoestima, el darse una segunda oportunidad por que un acontecimiento desfavorable no te define como persona y el esfuerzo para conseguir nuestros objetivos.

• La comedia y el humor, existen momentos en los que definitivamente la pasarás bien, te reirás mucho y sobre todo disfrutarás de momentos que no se sienten forzados.

• Algo que me gusta mucho y destaco es que el espacio de oficina o "bufete" de abogados no sólo es una trama lineal y exclusiva para nuestros protagonistas, sino que en paralelo se lleva al mismo ritmo la historia de nuestros personajes secundarios, brindándoles cierta particularidad y aportando la calidez y el humor que se maneja dentro de nuestra historia. Creo que es uno de los k-dramas que se mantiene algo más completo en ese sentido, no suele dejar momentos vacíos o cosas inconclusas.

Para finalizar, Touch Your Heart es mucho más que un k-drama de comedia lleno de romance. Las risas y la ternura no faltarán, pero también nos deja reflexiones y valores mucho más profundos a nivel personal y como sanar. El Inicio de una Nueva Historia

Continuamos con Los Juegos del Hambre, esta vez vamos con su segunda entrega y a mi parecer, hasta el momento, la mejor de la saga. Esta película es la que más recuerdo de la saga, cuando la vi, aunque no entendí mucho que digamos, fue la que más llamó mi atención. En Llamas es la continuación directa de la primera entrega de la saga, lo que nos espera en esta adaptación es la continuación de la historia de nuestros queridos protagonistas, Katniss y Peeta, solo que en esta ocasión nos damos cuenta de la magnitud de lo que se avecina en las próximas películas.

Como secuela, En Llamas, sigue los acontecimientos de la primera película, aquí veremos cómo Katniss y Peeta ahora deben volver a la realidad de su Distrito y continuar con la “falsa” relación crearon en la primera entrega, pero todo se complica cuando diversas circunstancias obligan al presidente Snow hacer los juegos, pero solo que los participantes serán los vencedores de cada Distrito. En Llamas me parece una de las secuelas que te puedas encontrar en una saga de películas, al igual que la película anterior, esta secuela se divide en dos partes, una donde nos dan un paseo por la vida que ahora Katniss y Peeta deben llevar y otra donde dan paso a los juegos.

En esta entrega tenemos un vistazo más amplio a todo lo que es el Capitolio y lo despiadado que puede llegar a ser el villano de esta saga, el presidente Snow, y cómo logra que todo esté a su favor con el gran poder que tiene en sus manos. Tenemos un poco más de participación de algunos personajes que vimos poco tiempo en la anterior película y también la introducción a otros nuevos como Finnick, Johana, los demás vencedores y Plutarch Heavensbee quienes formarán parte del plot twist más grande hasta el momento de la saga.

En Llamas, presenta un poco más el mundo que creó Suzanne Collins, nos dan un mayor vistazo al Distrito 12 y un pase por los demás Distritos, también podemos ver cómo Katniss más que una vencedora, se convirtió en un símbolo para todo Panem, un símbolo que nos deja ver los inicios de una próxima revolución con Katniss al frente. La película sigue la fórmula de su antecesora, con los vencedores llegando al Capitolio para darse a conocer, solo que esta vez ya saben quiénes son, la parte de los entrenamientos funciona esta vez para que Peeta y Katniss puedan buscar aliados para sobrevivir un poco más en los juegos ya que los demás vencedores son personas más letales y con experiencia a diferencia de los anteriores juegos.

Una de las cosas que me encantan de esta película es que toda la parte de los juegos fue filmada con en IMAX, y no saben cómo me disfrute mucho más todo este acto de la película, ahora que Katniss y Peeta tiene un poco más de experiencia en los juegos y no andan simplemente huyendo y luchando solo cuando es necesario. Unos de los personajes que se robó la pantalla, aparte de los protagonistas, fue Finnick, interpretado por Sam Claflin; sin duda unos de los personajes nuevos más destacados en esta entrega de la saga. Todavía no lo puedo superar, pero el hecho de que los juegos estuvieran grabados en IMAX le suma muchos puntos a la película, aparte de que da un toque más vistoso a los enfrentamientos en la arena.

La película tiene una buena duración, aunque esta vez sí se sienta un poco lenta al principio digamos que toma un poco más de “impulso” después del primer acto. La razón por la esta secuela me parece mejor que la primera es porque toma todo lo que la primera entrega hizo bien y lo hace el doble de bien, le otorga un poco más de profundidad a los personajes y al mundo de Panem, deja ver más allá del impacto que tuvo Katniss en los juegos anteriores y cómo da paso a una próxima revolución. Como dije en la anterior entrega, se toma su tiempo y sabe cuándo ir rápido y cuándo ir de espacio.

Hasta el momento la declaro como la película de la saga, espero que Sinsajo Parte 1 me deje con ganas de querer ver un poco sobre este mundo. El plot twist del final me pareció lo más grande de toda la película, con Katniss herida por el rayo, el domo destruyéndose por el impacto de la flecha y la nave llevándose a Katniss solo para segundos después darnos cuenta que todo era parte de un plan mayor para salvar a ella y dar paso a la revolución que tanto tiempo han estado esperando los distritos, lamentablemente no logran rescatar a Peeta y queda preso en el Capitolio junto a Johana, ya veremos que pasará con ellos en la próxima película de la saga.

Si les gustó la primera, En Llamas en aun mejor que su precuela, toma todo lo hizo la primera y lo hace el mejor, tampoco voy a negar que tiene sus detalles ya que verla dos veces si te gusta tanto, como es mi caso, puede ser un poco pesado al final. En Llamas deja el listón en alto para su próxima película, después de ese plot twist ver qué acontecerá será algo que esté esperando con muchas ansias para cuando pueda ver Sinsajo Parte 1. Recuerden mi opinión es en base a la películas y no a los libros ya que no los he leído.

Esta película de animación de terror con stop motion la verdad es que es muy extraña de digerir y lo digo de manera literal porque tiene momentos muy grotescos y asquerosos que pudiera sonar esto raro pero visualmente son increíbles por el tipo de animación que se utiliza aunque de vez en cuando vemos ligeros momentos de live action, esta es una de esas películas que como experiencia puede resultar increíble o muy repulsiva dependiendo de la persona que la vea.

Pero por dónde empiezo el primero la forma de definir la trama igualmente subjetiva porque depende del espectador que la vea y las sensaciones que te haga transmitir pueda decirlo que es como ver una pintura grotesca y cada persona al verla va a sentir una emoción completamente distinta la verdad es que la misión o de lo que se trata en sí la película nunca queda del todo muy aclarado simplemente es una historia muy extraña con una forma rara de contarse Y la verdad es que lo más atractivo que tienes el stop motion que sí gracias que todo es tan grotesco todos están gore todo es tan extraño se ve increíble utilizando ese tipo de animación pero a nivel de guión si es verdad que le hacía falta un poquito más de narrativa para aunque sea entender ligeramente el contexto porque hay en un punto que no sabes si lo que está pasando Es algo completamente ridículo O es que el propio guionista no supo Cómo hilar bien la historia.
