David Simon’s persistent denial of Marxist affiliation has long been noted, yet it rings somewhat hollow against the profound resonance The Wire holds within Marxist critical circles. This admiration extends far beyond the show’s overtly left-leaning portrayal of institutional decay and working-class struggle in Baltimore. Crucially, it stems from the series’ very narrative structure, which, whether by conscious design or intuitive grasp of historical materialism, functions as a compelling dramatisation of the Marxist base-superstructure model. Season Two’s unflinching autopsy of the dying port and its attendant labour aristocracy laid bare the crumbling economic base of the city. Season Three, commencing with the potent premiere Time After Time, decisively pivots to dissect the political superstructure – the intricate, often corrupt, machinery of governance, policing, and electoral politics that arises from, and serves to perpetuate, that faltering base. This structural logic promised, as subsequent seasons delivered, an exploration of the cultural superstructure through education (Season Four) and media (Season Five). Time After Time is thus not merely an episode; it is the essential keystone establishing this season’s critical interrogation of power, revealing how the political realm, far from offering solutions, frequently constitutes the core of Baltimore’s systemic malaise.

This season’s return to the mean streets is not a regression but a necessary recalibration. While Season Two ventured into the docks, Season Three re-immerses us in the visceral reality of the drug trade and its attendant violence, but crucially refracts this through the distorting lens of the political establishment. The episode immediately establishes that the true obstacle to meaningful change lies not solely with the corner boys, but with the symbiotic, self-serving relationship between city hall and the police command. The Major Crime Unit, tasked with tackling this evolved threat, operates within the same compromised superstructure. Bolstered by the return of Sydnor and Prez (whose fallout with Valchek is conveniently, if implausibly, brushed aside) and the addition of Officer Caroline Massey (Joilet F. Harris), a seasoned Narcotics veteran whose fluency in street slang proves vital, the unit finds itself stymied. Their frustration is palpable; Joe’s organisation, acutely aware of surveillance, avoids incriminating phone conversations. A clumsy attempt to manipulate Joe into promoting the reckless nephew Drac backfires spectacularly, as Joe opts for the more reliable Cheese

Simultaneously, the abandonment of the Major Crime Unit by Herc and Carver, now relegated to the Western District’s Narcotics unit, underscores the systemic rot. Their futile raids and resort to arresting dealers for mere loitering highlight the absurdity and inefficacy of the drug war on the ground. This very futility begins to crystallise in Major Colvin, planting the seeds for his radical, season-defining experiment – a stark realisation that the political mandate for enforcement is fundamentally disconnected from reality and human consequence.

The political stakes escalate rapidly. Royce’s hollow gestures and the police department’s inability to demonstrably reduce crime become potent ammunition for the ambitious City Councilman Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen). Carcetti, a young white politician in a majority-Black city, leverages the mounting homicide rate – Burrell’s order to stay below 270 becomes a desperate, numbers-driven farce – to savage Royce’s administration. It delivers a narrative that feels simultaneously fresh and deeply rooted in the show’s established reality – a convincing continuation that acknowledges the passage of time without succumbing to nostalgia or retread. The episode’s strength is its dense, organic integration of new elements into the existing fabric, avoiding the pitfalls of forced introduction.

This confidence extends to its masterful deployment of black humour, rooted in the tragicomic gap between self-perception and reality. Stringer Bell’s earnest attempt to impose bourgeois civility upon his drug empire – employing Robert’s Rules of Order during a crew meeting – inevitably collapses into the same street-level thuggery and trash talk it sought to transcend, revealing the hollowness of his aspirations to legitimacy within a corrupt system. Similarly, Herc and Carver’s delusional self-image as urban heroes, conjured through references to Isaac Hayes’ Shaft theme, is brutally punctured by the contemptuous dismissal of actual corner boys, highlighting the profound disconnect between police fantasy and street reality.

The episode’s true significance, however, lies in its role as a narrative catalyst, introducing pivotal characters who irrevocably reshape the season’s trajectory and thematic depth. Tommy Carcetti is the most immediately politically significant. His ambition, crossing of established power brokers, and seeming disregard for the racial barriers in Baltimore politics present a complex figure. While later seasons complicate any simplistic "Obama precursor" reading, Aidan Gillen’s portrayal captures a potent mix of charisma, intelligence, and ruthless calculation. It’s easy to see how this nuanced, ambitious politician role paved the way for his iconic, similarly Machiavellian turn as Littlefinger in Game of Thrones.

More ingeniously introduced is Dennis "Cutty" Wise (Chad L. Coleman). Returning after fourteen years in prison for murder, Cutty is a profound outsider, a former Barksdale soldier utterly alienated from the world he left behind. His bewilderment and struggle to find a place provides a uniquely perceptive lens. Precisely because he is not inured to the sad realities of West Baltimore, his perspective cuts through the fatalism that paralyses those immersed in the daily grind. He embodies the possibility, however fragile, of alternatives outside the drug game’s logic.

Finally, the chilling introduction of Marlo Stanfield (Jamie Hector) is achieved with masterful subtlety. We don’t see Marlo commit violence; we witness its cold, calculated aftermath through his underlings. The vicious public humiliation of Bubbles and Johnny Weeks over a trivial car collision, and Fruit’s calculated cheating of the vulnerable Cutty out of drug money, establish Marlo’s crew as a new, terrifyingly efficient, and utterly remorseless force. Hector’s minimal screen time radiates an unnerving, silent menace, signalling the arrival of a villain whose pure, amoral pursuit of power will dominate the series' latter half.

Time After Time is far more than a season premiere. It is the indispensable foundation stone for Season Three’s exploration of the political superstructure. It reasserts the show’s core thesis: that Baltimore’s crises are not the result of individual moral failings, but of deeply embedded, interlocking systems of power – economic, political, and eventually cultural – that perpetuate inequality and violence. By introducing Carcetti, Cutty, and Marlo with such precision, and by weaving the frustrations of the police, the cynicism of city hall, and the brutal logic of the streets into a single, coherent tapestry, the episode reaffirms The Wire’s status not just as great television, but as a profound, structurally sophisticated Marxist critique of the American urban condition.

Hello friends!

There are always new additions to streaming platforms, with a wide variety and abundance of movies and TV shows to watch in your free time. And I found a thriller, a short series of only six episodes with a lot of suspense, even though it might not seem that way at first when you see the title and the main image.

On Amazon Prime Video, in the top 10, at least in my country, I've seen this series, which I think is being watched quite a bit. What TV show am I talking about? This TV show is called The Girlfriend. A title that doesn't mean much to us, because there are also a movie with that name, but when we see the trailer and read the summary, it catches our attention, arouses our curiosity, and since it's not a long series but a short one, it's perfect for a quiet weekend afternoon before starting the busiest week of the week again. So let's enjoy it for a while, and to that end, I suggest this series, and to that end, I'll tell you a little about it. Hope you like it!

Well, let's tell something about this TV show. Here my review:

What is this about?

This series is about a girlfriend, of course. A boy from a rich and wealthy family (Daniel) meets a girl named Cherry, and they become a couple. One day, he decides to bring the girl home so his parents can meet her. Everything seems to be going very well, but it has a special effect on Daniel's mother, Laura, and from here, from this somewhat strange, yet seemingly normal, encounter, things begin to happen. Between them, and ultimately, they affect everyone. What will happen to this couple? Will the mother approve of her son's new girlfriend?

The girlfriend is Cherry, who works at a real estate agency selling houses, especially high-end ones. She wants to prosper and escape her mediocre life, and to do so she uses her ambition and intensity. But she's also fallen in love with the young doctor from a well-off family, Daniel. I don't want to give too much away because I don't want to give away any important details or spoil things!

The story begins when Cherry is introduced to his parents, but Laura's mother begins to distrust her due to a few small details (which I won't go into; you have to watch the TV show), and follows her, becomes suspicious, and begins to fear that she's hiding something more. Thus, she convinces herself that she's not good for her son, and things begin to happen, even though everything seems to be going well. He invites her on a family vacation with other friends to Spain, and during those days, she actually becomes even more convinced that Cherry is lying. But in front of everyone else, they both smile.

We're beginning to realize that Laura's mother is also very overprotective, treating her son like a baby, as if he were still her little boy. That's why she can't stand the fact that Daniel is now showing more attention to his girlfriend, and that he puts her first when it comes to making plans, for example. As I said, things happen, including to Daniel. There are difficult moments, where both possessive and twisted women begin to act in the worst possible way, and a war breaks out to destroy each other.

Throughout the episodes, we begin to wonder who's worse: who ends up being a psychopath or who was already one. Whether jealousy and trauma justify these actions, these lies, and such evil behavior, in short, while the others begin to see that something is happening and get angry.

Laura's, and Cherry's, obsession with getting Daniel becomes increasingly evident in every aspect of their lives, everything spiraling out of control... Are they ultimately the same?

The characters

The cast is good, with very known actors as protagonist, exactly the two female protagonists: the mother Laura is Robin Wright (do you remember Jenny from Forrest Gump or Underwood's wife in House of Cards? It's her, but she's done many more things). And on the other hand, the girlfriend Cherry is Olivia Cooke (Alicent in House of Dragons), I had seen her face before but it took me a while to remember her other famous role, although I've also seen on IMDB website that she has had many other relevant roles in the past.

Both women perform very well; one is an established star, and the other is on her way to becoming one. The men, on the other hand, both Daniel the boyfriend and the father, were unknown to me, but I think they also performed well in this intriguing series.

Anything else to comment?

Yes, THE BEST. What's most striking is the way the story is told. Because in reality, events often have two different interpretations; there are different versions depending on who's telling us what happened, right? And in this series, the same event is told to us twice: when names appear in big red letters, we're being told that it's being experienced through one of the two protagonists. Because as the TV show motto says: "There are two sides to every story".

For example, when the word "Cherry" appears, we know we'll see what happened at a given moment from the girlfriend's point of view, and conversely, when the word "Laura" appears, we'll see more or less the same thing again, but from the mother's perspective. And this seems extraordinary to me, because it gives us both versions and we can choose to side with one of the two with more information or simply enjoy everything the two women plot and intrigue.

And finally, the ending. Everything ends abruptly, we know something will happen, that it will end badly, but we don't know how... and after the end, everything seems like it will be fine, but... it's not quite over... I can't say more!

I started off this movie with the expectation of seeing something Spy thriller-ish. But from the first act, I realized it was planning something quite different. ‎ ‎The story follows Dominika Egorova, a former ballerina whose career is cut short by an injury. Struggling to take care of her sick mother and desperate for stability, she's pushed into the world of Russian intelligence. Except, instead of the usual secret-agent training, Dominika is sent into a "Sparrow school," a program that teaches young recruits how to weaponize their bodies, emotions, and sexuality in order to manipulate targets. It's disturbing, not because of high-tech espionage, but because of how dehumanizing it feels. ‎

‎Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Dominika, is more of the lead role in the movie. She's not the typical unbreakable spy we are used to seeing. She's vulnerable, scared, and furious all at once. You don't just watch her become a "Sparrow", you see her wrestle with whether she'll let the system own her, or if she can bend it to her will. ‎ ‎The tension grows when she's assigned to get close to Nate Nash, a CIA officer who's protecting a high-level Russian informant. Their relationship is complicated. It makes you wonder whether Dominika is playing him, or whether she's trying to break free from the Russian intelligence. ‎

‎Unlike most films of this nature which are majorly based on stunts and gadgets, Sparrow bases more on psychological warfare, and how far someone can be pushed before they decide to fight back. The movie had a lot of suspense moments, like some scenes when you see Dominika staring across the room and you just can't quite tell what she's planning. ‎

‎I did find some downsides in the movie though. For one, I think the time was overstretched, and some scenes lasted longer than necessary. The scenes of the Sparrow training were mostly brutal which some viewers may find to be disturbing due to the graphic nature. But at the same time, that's part of what makes the movie stand out. ‎ ‎By the end of the movie, you'll eventually realize the movie isn't about whether Dominika can survive the Sparrow program, it's about whether she can outthink the people who think they own her. ‎https://youtu.be/ZQUBjoGm1ls?si=MKI_R2lrs38x7dYp ‎The movie is for sure entertaining. Bad Times at the El Royale (7.7/10)

This movie is directed by Drew Goddard who previously directed Cabin in The Woods which is regarded as a good horror movie that I also enjoyed. He also seems to have worked as a writer on cloverfield, The martian, and tv shows like Lost, Alias, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and I certainly will keep his name in mind.

The movie itself fully takes place at the El Royale Hotel ion the 60s-70s which is a fictional hotel inspired by a real hotel called the Cal Neva Lodge & Casino which sits at the border of California & Nevada splitting it in 2 with a red line. This represents one of the themes in the movie (good vs bad) which mostly went passed me.

Movie Plot

1969. Four strangers check in at the El Royale Hotel. The hotel is deserted, staffed by a single desk clerk. Some of the new guests' reasons for being there are less than innocent and some are not who they appear to be.

The movie starts with a guy checking into the holtel hiding some money under the floor in one of the rooms and I kind of assumed that this money would he the main story driver which it wasn't. It's just one of the elements as there each of the 4 guests are totally unrelated and each kind of have their thing going on. This makes for a story that has a ton of coincidences and statistically is near impossible but it's fun and it just works. This movie also has a lot of twists and turns which was nice and kept things interesting all the way.

The movie also has a nice cast with Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, & Cynthia Erivo who were cast perfectly. There is also a famous actor who came in the picture later in the movie coming as somewhat of a surprise. The entire setting and location for this movie was perfect, I liked the timeframe it was set in also and the music & sound were excellent.

Conclusion This movie is really hard to talk about as it's best to go in fully blind. If you are looking for a good time watching a 2 Hour 20 Minute movie with an interesting story that works and told from an interesting angle with many twists and turns. All while the cinematograpy, acting, & soulds are top notch, Bad Times at the El Royale certainly is an option. I'm really glad that I finally watched it and give it a Solid 7.7/10.

Vi una comedia One of Them Days que me gustó bastante, la verdad esperaba algo bueno con Keke Palmer y SZA juntas pero no me imaginaba que iba a funcionar tan bien, esta película me entretuvo desde el principio hasta el final sin exagerar. La verdad es que ya había visto a Keke Palmer desde hace años en diferentes papeles pero ver a SZA actuando por primera vez fue algo que me llamo bastante la atención porque su personaje Alyssa era como si estuviera interpretando sus propias canciones pero en versión película y me pareció bastante natural para ser su debut en actuación. La película tiene es toda caótica y mezcla comedia con momentos que te hacen sentir preocupación por las protagonistas, la dirección de Lawrence Lamont logró capturar esa vibra de Los Angeles que siempre vemos en películas pero esta vez desde un punto diferente, a mí me pareció más auténtica mostrando lugares como Baldwin Village que en realidad la gente local conoce como the jungles pero en la película hacen esa broma cuando la chica blanca dice Baldwin Village y un niño pregunta que es eso. El guion de Syreeta Singleton funciona bastante bien construyendo la amistad entre Drew y Alyssa de manera convincente, de verdad te comes el cuento de que estas dos son mejores amigas que han vivido juntas por años y tienen ese rol donde una es más responsable y la otra más despreocupada pero ambas se complementan de maneras interesantes al final así son las amistades, aunque debo admitir que hubo momentos donde quería gritarle a Alyssa por las pendejadas que hacia y más cuando le mandó esa foto a Kean revelando su ubicación.

La historia arranca cuando descubren que el novio de Alyssa se robó el dinero del alquiler para invertir en su negocio de ropa íntima de imitación que les digo es una de las cosas más ridículas que he visto, el tipo tomó el dinero que no era suyo para hacer esto y por supuesto de allí te pedes sacar una idea de que tipo de hombre es. Lo que más me gustó es que no perdieron tiempo armando el conflicto, desde los primeros minutos ya sabes que estas dos están jodidas porque tienen hasta las seis de la tarde para conseguir la plata o las van a sacar del apartamento, el casero es probablemente uno de los personajes más detestables llega golpenado la puerta como un loco mientras Drew apenas llegó de trabajar el turno de noche y solo quiere dormir un poco. Otra cosa que me pareció buena es que se siente esa presión de estar atrapada en una situación imposible se nota la desesperación de estas mujeres en esas escenas donde están corriendo por toda la ciudad tratando de conseguir dinero de cualquier manera posible, desde donar sangre hasta vender zapatos robados de un poste de luz que resulta ser de King Lolo el que vende cosas raras jajajaa que después las amenaza por cinco mil dólares adicionales.

Los actores secunedarios hacen que la película brille de maneras inesperadas, está Joshua Neil como el chulo que vive de las mujeres, Aziza Scott como Bernice que también lo hizo muy bien, tiene presencia natural y cada vez que aparece sabes que algo interesante va a pasar, esa escena donde persigue a las protagonistas corriendo como atleta olímpica hasta que se estrella contra la puerta de una camioneta fue muy chistosa. Katt Williams aparece como Lucky dandole consejos a la gente afuera del lugar de préstamos y aunque su papel es pequeño se llega a sentir su presencia y Janelle James es la que saca la sangre me dio risa cuando dijo que era su primer día traajado en eso y todo sale tan mal cuando Drew decide donar más sangre para conseguir más dinero. Maude Apatow como Bethany la chica blanca que se muda al barrio fue interesante porque termina ayudandolas comprando el arte de Alyssa, aunque debo admitir que esa parte se fue conveniente para la trama, tambien esta Maniac interpretado por Patrick Cage que tiene buena química con Keke Palmer y resulta ser bombero y esto es importante al final cuando el apartamento se incendia por las camisetas inflamables del vividor.

La parte más fuerte de la peli son las actuaciones principales, Keke Palmer demuestra que su presencia constante en Hollywood por tantos años no es en vano, en lo cómico es burna pero también sabe cuando ser seria como en esa escena donde tiene que elegir entre su entrevista de trabajo soñada y ayudar a su amiga que esta siendo golpeada por Berniece afuera del edificio, esa fue la decisión más difícil que cualquier personaje tuvo que tomar en toda la película y ella lo manejó muy bien. SZA como Alyssa me encantó porqeue es muy natural teniendo en cuenta que es su primera actuación, su personaje es el tipo de mujer que describe en sus canciones, obsesionada con un hombre que claramente no la conviene, tomando las peores decisiones por amor pero de alguna manera tiene una energía bonita que te hace querer que las cosas le salgan bien, aunque hubo momentos donde me pareció demasiado gafa con las cosas que hacía y más cuando siguió escribiéndole al idiota del novio despues de que les robo el dinero del alquiler. La relación entre ellas se siente real, puedes creer que han sido amigas por años y que se conocen lo suficientemente bien como para saber que botones presionar cuando están peleando, esa pelea que tienen cuando todo se va al diablo fue dolorosa de ver porque ambas tenían razones válidas para estar molestas pero también sabias que iban a reconciliarse porque eso es lo que hacen las verdaderas amigas.

Los momentos más divertidos vinieron de las situaciones cada vez más ridículas en las que se meten tratando de conseguir el dinero, la escena del banco de sangre donde Drew termina donando como cinco bolsas fue una locura cuando Janelle James admite que es su primer dia y claramente no sabe lo que esta haciendo, luego cuando salen vestidas con ropa de segunda mano que parecen disfraces de Halloween mal hechos, también esa parte donde SZA se electrocuta tratando de bajar los zapatos del poste fue estúpida pero divertida aunque es lgo imposible porque la electricidad no funciona asi. Lo que si es que el final es algo conveniente porque todo se resolvió mágicamente cuando Bethany convence a todos sus seguidores de Instagram de comprar las pinturas de Alyssa por cientos de dólares cada una, y luego cuando aparece la entrevistadora de Drew en el show para ofrecerle el trabajo después de todo fue como demasiado perfecto, pero no me importó mucho porque quería que todos les saliera bien y tuvieran un final feliz. El final donde llaman a los cazarecompensas para que se lleven a King Lolo fue bueno prioque no llamaron a la policia y esto mantiene la autenticidad del barrio, y el hecho de que Maniac resulte ser bombero y aparezca justo cuando el apartamento se incendia fue conveniente pero al menos tenía sentido dentro de la historia, aunque para mi esa parte del incendio estuvo de más. Yo le doy un 8/10 porque me entretuvo bastante, era lo ue buscaba y las actuaciones fueron convincentes, la dirección también fue buena y todo tenoa esa energía de Los Angeles que necesitaba la historia, vale la pena verla si estás buscando una comedia que no insulte tu inteligencia y que tenga algo que decir sobre la amistad femenina.

I saw a comedy One of Them Days that I liked a lot, I was expecting something good with Keke Palmer and SZA together but I didn't imagine it would work so well, this movie entertained me from the beginning to the end without exaggeration. The truth is that I had already seen Keke Palmer for years in different roles but seeing SZA acting for the first time was something that caught my attention because her character Alyssa was as if she was performing her own songs but in a movie version and it seemed quite natural for her acting debut. The movie is all chaotic and mixes comedy with moments that make you feel concern for the protagonists, Lawrence Lamont's direction managed to capture that Los Angeles vibe that we always see in movies but this time from a different point, to me it seemed more authentic showing places like Baldwin Village that in reality local people know as the jungles but in the movie they make that joke when the white girl says Baldwin Village and a kid asks what is that. Syreeta Singleton's script works pretty well building the friendship between Drew and Alyssa in a convincing way, you really buy into the story that these two are best friends who have lived together for years and have that role where one is more responsible and the other more carefree but both complement each other in interesting ways in the end that's how friendships are, although I must admit there were moments where I wanted to yell at Alyssa for the bullshit she did and more when she sent that picture to Kean revealing her location.

The story kicks off when they discover that Alyssa's boyfriend stole the rent money to invest in his imitation intimate apparel business which I tell you is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, the guy took money that wasn't his to do this and of course from there you get an idea of what kind of man he is. What I liked the most is that they didn't waste time setting up the conflict, from the first minutes you know that these two are screwed because they have until six in the evening to get the money or they will be kicked out of the apartment, the landlord is probably one of the most obnoxious characters comes banging on the door like crazy while Drew just got home from working the night shift and just wants to get some sleep. Another thing I thought was good is that you can feel the pressure of being trapped in an impossible situation, you can feel the desperation of these women in those scenes where they are running around the city trying to get money in any way possible, from donating blood to selling stolen shoes from a light pole that happens to belong to King Lolo the guy who sells weird stuff hahaha who then threatens them for an additional five thousand dollars.

The supporting actors make the movie shine in unexpected ways, there is Joshua Neil as the pimp who lives off the women, Aziza Scott as Bernice who also did very well, she has natural presence and every time she appears you know something interesting is going to happen, that scene where she chases the protagonists running like an Olympic athlete until she crashes into the door of a van was very funny. Katt Williams appears as Lucky giving advice to people outside the lending place and although his role is small you get to feel his presence and Janelle James is the one who draws the blood I laughed when she said it was her first day working on it and everything goes so wrong when Drew decides to donate more blood to get more money. Maude Apatow as Bethany the white girl who moves into the neighborhood was interesting because she ends up helping them by buying Alyssa's art, although I must admit that part was convenient for the plot, there is also Maniac played by Patrick Cage who has good chemistry with Keke Palmer and happens to be a firefighter and this is important at the end when the apartment catches fire because of the vivid man's flammable t-shirts.

The strongest part of the movie are the main performances, Keke Palmer proves that her constant presence in Hollywood for so many years is not in vain, in the comic she is funny but she also knows when to be serious like in that scene where she has to choose between her dream job interview and helping her friend who is being beaten by Berniece outside the building, that was the hardest decision any character had to make in the whole movie and she handled it very well. SZA as Alyssa I loved because she is very natural considering it's her first performance, her character is the kind of woman she describes in her songs, obsessed with a man who clearly doesn't suit her, making the worst decisions for love but somehow she has a nice energy that makes you want things to work out for her, although there were moments where she seemed too gauche with the things she did and more when she kept writing to the idiot boyfriend after he stole their rent money. The relationship between them feels real, you can believe they have been friends for years and they know each other well enough to know what buttons to push when they are fighting, that fight they have when everything goes to hell was painful to watch because they both had valid reasons to be upset but you also knew they were going to make up because that's what real friends do.

The funniest moments came from the increasingly ridiculous situations they get into trying to get the money, the scene at the blood bank where Drew ends up donating like five bags was crazy when Janelle James admits it's her first day and clearly doesn't know what she's doing, then when they come out dressed in second hand clothes that look like poorly made Halloween costumes, also that part where SZA gets electrocuted trying to get her shoes down the pole was stupid but funny even though it's kind of impossible because electricity doesn't work like that. What is that the ending is kind of convenient because everything was magically resolved when Bethany convinces all her Instagram followers to buy Alyssa's paintings for hundreds of dollars each, and then when Drew's interviewer shows up on the show to offer her the job after all it was like too perfect, but I didn't really care because I wanted them all to work out and have a happy ending. The ending where they call the bounty hunters to take King Lolo away was good prioque they didn't call the cops and this keeps the authenticity of the neighborhood, and the fact that Maniac turns out to be a firefighter and shows up just as the apartment is on fire was convenient but at least it made sense within the story, although for me that part about the fire was over the top. I give it an 8/10 because I was quite entertained, it was what I was looking for and the performances were convincing, the direction was also good and everything had that LA energy that the story needed, it's worth watching if you're looking for a comedy that doesn't insult your intelligence and that has something to say about female friendship.

OK. I normally don't like to write about something more than once. There have been a few exceptions like The Rise of Skywalker or Thunderbolts, but in general I like to write something after I m completely done watching something to collect all of my thoughts.

But Alien Earth was anything but "normal". It was one of the most extraordinary shows I have ever seen. It honestly felt like watching a trilogy of excellent movies. I finally watched the season finale so I can finely say that this show came out of the gate on fire and never cooled off. Although some people have called the finale "tame" or "weak", I absolutely loved it! I loved seeing what Wendy and her fellow Lost Boys had become. And oh my god, the world better look out if Wendy gets off that island. She is a badass. More importantly, she is a badass with an even bigger badass as a friend.

I loved the pace of this show. Just like the original movie, the show was a slow burn... until it wasn't and a creature scared the hell out of you. I even enjoyed the use of practical effects to really give the feel that you were watching a direct prequel to the original Alien. While some may bristle at the fact that the Xenomorph was obviously someone dressed in a black leotard and covered with H.R. Geiger sculptures, I found it a refreshing break from non stop CGI. Don't get me wrong, there is still plenty of CGI in the form of the other creatures the Boy Genius stole from The Weyland-Yutani Corporation, but it was nice to see the combination of the two. It was actually a nice metaphor for the marriage of high and low tech in the show's world run by corporations... oh wait. Isn't that describing our world? Never mind.

Because the creator of the show, Noah Hawley, is no dummy, the finale ended with an excellent cliffhanger. As soon as the episode was over, I screamed "Shit"! Not because I was upset with the episode, but because it ended and I'll have to wait a couple of years to see what happens next.

Luckily, all signs seem to be pointing to the fact there will indeed be at least a second season of Alien Earth (and there better be!). Back in July, Hawley told Variety magazine, "Season 1 is the proof of concept". “And if it works commercially, then season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a season 3, 4, 5.” back in 2024, FX's boss John Langraf said, "We’re pretty bullish on ‘Alien: Earth’ and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, ‘Alien: Earth’ is a returning television series, we want him to focus on on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of ‘Fargo,'”.

Add the fact that the show earned a 95% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes (which happens to be even higher than Alien or Aliens) and the studio must know it has something special on its hands. I am a bit surprised the audience rating is only a 67% but I wonder if that is because it is such a slow burn at times. Either way the show averaged over 9 million viewers so the interest is there.

If you were waiting until all episodes of Alien Earth dropped so you could binge it, clear your weekend calendar and get to it this weekend!

MUFASA AND THE CHALLENGES THAT FORGED HIS IDENTITY:

This film shows real trials, including challenges, dangers, fear, and loss. Each of these trials shaped Mufasa. Every step and action he took made him much wiser, more aware of new responsibilities without solid support, which meant protecting his own and fighting when necessary.

Before the end of the film, we realize that the abandoned, fearful, and low-profile cub no longer exists. He is now a lion capable of facing anything, always firmly upholding each of the principles he learned during his painful times of sacrifice. This is reflected when he arrives at the famous "Milele" and speaks to all the animals to fight the pack that was in pursuit of them, where he describes the cycle of life as "their fight is my fight."

DETAILS TO HIGHLIGHT AND WHERE IT COULD BE IMPROVED:

• On a visual level, this almost realistic style maintains a great deal of expressiveness. The animals' detail in terms of fur, movement, and expressiveness helps us clearly understand the situation the characters are in.

• Regarding the music, good instrumental pieces are presented precisely in emotional moments. There are songs I can highlight that I can't get out of my head, like "Yo siempre quise un hermano" (I Always Wanted a Brother) or "Di Que Eres Tú" (Say It's You); however, I feel it doesn't replace the classics (in comparison, I love the song "Esta Noche Es Para Amar" (This Night Is for Love).

• I really like that the film doesn't just tell an adventure, but it touches on various topics that really happen: At the leadership level and what a leader really does / Responsibility / The origin, despite it mattering where you come from... it matters much more where one is going and what one inherited from where one belongs / Betrayals sometimes don't come from a stranger / Destiny is chosen by oneself, confirm that one makes the decisions oneself.

As a personal score, I'd give it a 7.5, as it's a visually stunning work, with several meaningful and profound moments. However, there are moments where it feels overpowered, while in others it lacks a bit more narrative.

El día de hoy hablaremos de una historia que sucedió mucho antes de llegar a "La Roca del Rey", y sin más preámbulos, esta historia es de la película Mufasa.

Una inundación separa al cachorro Mufasa de sus padres, pero el rey de los leones lo acoge como a uno de los suyos tras demostrar su valentía. Al crecer, una manada de leones desterrados y los celos de su hermana adoptiva lo pondrán en peligro.

LA HISTORIA DE UN CACHORRO QUE VINO AL MUNDO SIN UNA GOTA DE NOBLEZA EN LA SANGRE:

Antes de que se cuente la historia de nuestro protagonista, la trama inicia con Simba, que debe ir por Nala ya que se encuentra lejos de la roca del rey, así que deja a Timón, Pumba y Rafiki a cuidado de Kiara (Se llama como yo JAJAJAJA), el cual le deja muy en claro que "nada de historias".

Imagino quienes vieron las películas animadas del Rey león se deben dar una idea como son tanto Timón y Pumba, así que le cuentan la historia real de como derrotaron a Scar en la primera película (Una parodia contando su realidad alterada de como Timón pelea contra Scar y posteriormente se lo comen🤣).

Entre tormentas y sustos por parte de los 3, el viejo Rafiki decide hablarle sobre la valentía... la historia de un cachorro que vino al mundo sin una gota de nobleza en la sangre... una historia que cambiarían las vidas para siempre...

Aquí es donde empieza la película del pequeño gran Mufasa, el cual con sus padres se van a la búsqueda del Milele (Significa "por siempre), este lugar al que se dirigen sería el paraíso para ellos... Lamentablemente no todo es color de rosas, Mufasa pierde a sus padres en una inundación...

Posteriormente Mufasa se encuentra con Taka, el cual lo ayuda a salvarse de los cocodrilos. Taka estaba destinado a seguir con el reinado de su padre, fue entrenado desde niño para ello; mientras tanto, Mufasa no fue aceptado del todo dentro de la manada (lo trataron siempre como vagabundo), lo cual generó que pase mas tiempo con las hembras, siendo entrenado a nuevas habilidades y una manera distinta de ver las cosas.

MUFASA Y TAKA, "CRECIMIENTO SIMULTANEO - PENSAMIENTO DIFERENCIADO":

Una de las partes más interesantes sobre el crecimiento de Mufasa mientras es encontrado por Taka después de salvarlo de los cocodrilos es la relación que tienen como hermanos. A pesar de que no aceptaban del todo a Mufasa, ya que establecía una pequeña rivalidad con el padre de Taka debido a que "le robaría el trono a su hijo"... uno puede pensar que solo es una ligera incomodidad, pero con el pasar de los años se va formando una rivalidad entre ellos.

Por un lado Taka buscaba ser reconocido, siempre pensó que el rol del líder le sería heredado y nadie podía quitarle ese lugar. y por el otro Mufasa demostraba compromiso y ciertas cualidades de que es ser un líder.

Desde mi perspectiva, esta película intentó dar una explicación que había detrás de las películas que ya conocíamos. El por que Scar no inició siendo "el villano de la película", sino como un ser con heridas internas y junto a decisiones equivocadas lo llevaron a una transformación muy errada de sí.

MUFASA Y LOS DESAFIOS QUE FORJARON SU IDENTIDAD:

Esta película muestra pruebas reales, entre desafíos, peligros, miedo y pérdida; cada una de estas pruebas fueron moldeando a Mufasa, cada paso y acción que realizaba lo volvía mucho más sabio, más consciente de nuevas responsabilidades sin un apoyo sólido, lo que significaba proteger a los suyos y luchar de ser necesario.

Antes de finalizar la película, nos damos cuenta que ese cachorro abandonado, temeroso y manteniendo un perfil bajo ya no existe... Ahora es un león capaz de afrontar todo, poniendo siempre con firmeza cada uno de los principios que aprendió en sus tiempos dolorosos de sacrificio. Esto se ve reflejado cuando llega al famoso "Milele" y habla con todos los animales para luchar contra la manada que estaba en busca de ellos, donde indica el ciclo de la vida "su pelea es mi pelea".

DETALLES A DESTACAR Y QUE PUDO MEJORAR:

• A nivel visual, este estilo casi realista mantiene mucha expresividad. El detalle de los animales a nivel de pelaje, movimientos y expresividad, hace entender a uno de manera correcta la situación en la que se encuentran los personajes.

• Con respecto a la música, se presentan buenas piezas instrumentales de manera precisa en los momentos emotivos. Hay canciones que puedo destacar y que no se me quitan de la cabeza como "Yo siempre quise un hermano" o "Di que eres tú"; sin embargo, siento que no remplaza a los clásicos (A nivel de comparación, la canción "Esta noche es para amar" me encanta).

• Me agrada mucho que la película no sólo cuenta una aventura, sino que toca diversos temas que suceden realmente: A nivel de liderazgo y que es lo que hace realmente un líder / Responsabilidad / El origen a pesar de importar de donde vienes... importa mucho más hacía donde uno se dirige y que es lo que heredó de su lugar de pertenencia / Las traiciones a veces no vienen vienen de un desconocido / El destino lo elije uno mismo confirme vaya tomando uno mismo las decisiones.

Como puntuación personal le daría un 7.5; ya que es una obra visualmente impresionante, con diversos momentos significativos y profundos; sin embargo, hay situaciones en las cuales se sienten sobrecargados mientras que en otros faltó un poco más de narrativa.

As the days turn into weeks and weeks into months, the investigation starts to lose steam. Everyone is tired and frustrated. Some parents have even given up on seeing their children again. But when all hope seems lost, there is a twist.

A weapon is unleashed and suddenly, the answers everyone has been searching for starts to fall in place. You would actually have to watch the movie to know what happens next. However, I'll try to do justice to the movie “Weapons” with minimal no spoilers.

The horror thriller film was released on the 8th of August, 2025 and directed by Zach Cregger. It has a runtime of 128 minutes (2hours and 8 minutes) and stars actors like Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams and Cary Christopher. The official language used throughout the movie is English language and its distributor is Warner Bros. Pictures.

I’d like to say that this movie was a breath of fresh air. A much needed one after not being able to see any movies for over two weeks.

One thing that really stood out for me was the movie’s depiction of dreams as a powerful tool. As someone who believes that dreams have meanings, I loved seeing this theme explored.

But what really got me was how some characters had these insightful dreams, only to dismiss them as soon as they woke up. Imagine having a dream that is laddened with clues and hints only to wake up and push it aside.

The movie’s use of a pulp fiction narrative was also very impressive. Different storylines from different characters all came together in a light-hearted climax.

This brings me to the movie’s genre. How does a movie boldly labelled ‘horror thriller’ culminate in a light-hearted climax? Personally, I found absolutely nothing terrifying about this movie. Yes, there was some mystery to the plot but nothing outrightly scary or blood-curdling.

The law enforcement officials in the movie were painted as lazy. They barely did any investigation. There was no team effort and eventually they began to slack. 17 kids go missing and the police are slacking? I was also very amazed at how quickly a majority of the parents moved on from their missing kids.

Be that as it may, I actually enjoyed seeing this movie. The characters generally put up strong performances which gave the movie an element of intensity.

I was fully invested in the story, screaming at the scream and getting frustrated at characters’ decisions. That's how you know a movie’s done a fairly good job right?

I’d give the movie an 8 out of 10 rating. Not perfect but worth watching. I plan to watch more movies in the coming weeks so I would absolutely love your recommendations. What movies have you watched recently that you can't stop raving about?

The biggest surprise was definitely how they brought Galactus to life on screen, finally we get a proper version of this cosmic threat instead of that cloud garbage from 2007 that nobody talks about anymore because it was so fucking terrible. This version actually looks like the massive world eating entity he should be with incredible scale and design work that makes you feel the size of this cosmic level threat, the only problem I have with this character is how easy they got rid of him, I remember the Fantastic 4 animated series didnt have the most insane villains but Galactus should be at Thanos level on their universe so getting rid of him with a push, idk sounds like too little and low effort. The Silver Surfer being a woman works surprisingly well too, Julia Garner brings this serious herald energy to the character that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time, her whole "I herald his beginning, I herald your end" delivery was absolutely perfect for what they were going for, the Silver Surfer was by far my favorite character specially during the fight scene when they go to Gargantua, yeah Nolan stuff embeded on my brain, they way she literally surf on space was fkn awesome. The movie does a good job of making Galactus feel like this ancient cosmic force rather than just another generic villain, you get the sense that this being has witnessed universes live and die and now its just doing what it needs to survive even if that means destroying entire worlds in the process, but specially how he feels tired of this life and just want to pass the curse into someone else. The Thing looks great throughout the entire movie and you can feel there is a human beneath all that orange rock, the only problem I have with him is the voice, usually its a more intimidating and deep voice but the character does captures both the frustration of being stuck in a rock body and the determination to make the best of his situation an aspect that is a such a classic, you really feel for this guy when his fiance breaks up with him on the street and leaves the engagement ring on the ground because she cant handle what he has become. Sue Storm being pregnant eeee I was not too sure about it becuase it might be use to push certain girl power and sht message but they manage to not make it look like that and bring the family even closer, Vanessa Kirby does great work showing a woman who is tired and dealing with all this cosmic level bullshit while trying to protect her unborn child from forces beyond comprehension, her force field powers get some really creative uses throughout the movie including this scene where she makes her belly translucent so they can see the baby which is sweet but kinda creepy too, so how does she decide just to show the baby without anything else.

The pacing was really nice, nothing during the movie feels rushed or dragged out, they get the origin stuff out of the way quickly in the opening scenes by recreating how the entire transformation happen along with some other scenes before Sue gets pregnant so it was nice they didnt have to mansplein things all over again like nobody knew the characters, Paul Walter Hauser shows up as Mole Man which was apparently not a joke when he mentioned being in the movie during interviews, he doest get some screen time and making him a friend of the Fantastic Four also felt like not every villain on the movie is a bad person. On the movie The Fantastic Four family is love by everyone because they care, participate and solve others people problems world wide, they are seen as leaders but then Galactus ask for Sue baby and she says NO, things get very complicated and I though this would be a bigger deal during the movie, probably getting world leaders against them but they never did and drop the topic very quick, this sets up an interesting contrast for when they eventually cross over into the main MCU universe where superheroes are treated with suspicion and sometimes outright hostility by the common people. The entire visuals of the movie looks very high quality, from everything they use or wear, the suites I thought I wouldnt like but they do look good specially their space suits, the car and all the tech looks very well design, the only thing I didnt like much is how giant screens literally look like CRT monitors, same for the bubble design monitors they have at their HQ with this optimistic retro future vibe that makes you wish more superhero movies would take chances with their visual design instead of everything looking like generic modern day settings.

Even though they fight together against Galactus I feel like they didnt properly show off their powers, the biggest exmple been Reed Richards, this is the least stretchy version we have ever seen on screen and Pedro Pascal does nails the brilliant scientist aspect of the character, even when some things are just too obvious and others completely exaggerated like the transportation of Earth, it feels like a missed opportunity to not have more fun with his abilities. I wish the could have explain more the science stuff behind their plan like they have tried on previous movies, but when your main power is being able to stretch your body into any shape imaginable you should probably use that more than just extending your arm to reach something across the room. Johnny Storm gets plenty of chances to fly around and throw fire which looks great and my only problem with him is how his regular clothe didnt got burn but over all is a very solid character special when you compare him to previous movies how they all failed, Sue Storm has some creative invisibility and force field moments, Ben Grimm is obviously just a walking tank who punches things real hard, but Reed lack action in the powers department even though Pascal brings great parental conflict energy to the role, between whats necessary and what he wants, the decision making aspect that Sue hates so much as he always thinks about what could go wrong but its his job too.

The final battery arrive and honestly it took me by surprise, I try not to watch the timeline on the screen to avoid spoiling things for me, very quick they have to figure out how to deal with Galactus wanting to take Franklin Richards who apparently has these reality altering powers that could replace Galactus as this cosmic force of nature, the whole teleport the Earth to another galaxy solution is exactly the kind of big science fiction concept that feels right for these characters and I do feel like taking Galactus from his ship was a great plan, personally I didnt know how he harvest and accumulate his energy, they do go into details and thats something the audience screams when it comes to super hero movies. Sue Storm gets this great speech about not giving up her child for the world but also not giving up the world for her child which captures the impossible choice they are facing, the fact that they get the entire planet to work together on this plan shows how different Earth 828 is from the world we live in where nobody can agree on anything, makes me think Earth would become hell and there would be riots from both sides if it comes to something like that in the world we live in. The post credits scene with little Franklin talking to someone in a Doctor Doom mask sets up obvious future storylines but for some reasons the version of the movie I watch didnt show the Fantastic Four ship arriving in the main MCU timeline so I have to look it up online, whenever I wait for movies to touch the internet I avoid all kind of spoilers on Youtube although its very hard, overall this feels like a solid 7/10 that actually makes me want to see more of these characters but not because I think this is one of the best MCU movies, so far Thunderbolts (2025) is the best one for this year, I want to see more of the characters to give them a second chance to expand and provide more details about them.
