Anime with a cyberpunk theme tend to have a rather dark undertone with themes that can be a little strong or raw, but they also manage to be very entertaining, exciting, and generate a great deal of empathy with the character, who may have a tragic and cruel past. It mostly takes the form of a small mouse with golden fur that can talk. It is also shown that Shell underwent a strange operation where he can even forget past memories, store them in external backups, and practically be without any memories of his life as a way to “be born” from scratch without memories.

Little by little, we learn a bit about Balot's tragic past, how he ended up with someone as dangerous and corrupt as Shell, the crimes and dangers behind Shell, and how he seems to be someone who is simply trying to climb the ladder of power in this corrupt and dark world. On the other hand, it is shown how Easter and Oeufcoque are part of old government investigations during the war and now seem to belong to a special division. Their goal is to try to prove all of Shell's evil deeds and get him convicted in order to somehow affect all of his superiors, whom he seems to be helping with his criminal empire. For this reason, it will be very important to protect Balot in order to have her testimony in the trials.

At first, we can see how Balot, in addition to being very afraid, also feels distrustful of Easter and Oeufcoque, feeling that she has been alone her whole life with no one to support her, and when someone seemed to help her, it was for their own interests or to make her suffer even more. We also see how she gradually comes to trust Oeufcoque, who empathizes with her and seems to want to help her not only to complete the case against Shell, but also to protect her and help her feel more comfortable with her own life, as well as try to overcome all the traumas of her past. As you might expect from a story of this kind, there are some truly disturbing characters with incredibly absurd abilities and strength, which makes for some incredible action and combat scenes. Like Balot, she was also modified in order to survive, and her agility and combat skills increase greatly when she learns to use her new abilities.

The aesthetics and overall development of the story are based mainly on drama, suspense, and psychological elements. The animation style and dark tones combine very well with the dramatic aspect of the film, the sad and dramatic life that Balot has had to endure, and how it seems that everything has been normal for her. You can see how she is already accustomed to misfortune in her life. Los animes que tienen una temática estilo ciberpunk suelen tener también un trasfondo bastante oscuro con temas que pueden resultar un poco fuertes o crudos, pero de igual manera también consiguen ser muy entretenidos, emocionantes y generar una gran empatía con el personaje el cual puede tener un pasando trágico y cruel. Mardock Scramble The First Compression es una película del año 2010 la cual tiene ese elemento futurista y de ciencia ficción, combinando con una historia fuerte que toca temas muy delicados haciendo que el desarrollo de la historia sea bastante impactante, aunque también presentan tantos aspecto que puedes quedar con varias dudas al sentir que simplemente te sueltan en mitad de una historia con tantas cosas que se explican muy superficialmente o que simplemente se dan por sentado y omiten algún explicación para el espectador.

La historia nos presenta a Rune Balot una joven chica con un pasado bastante trágico y que parece llevar una vida como prostituta en un mundo futurista y corrompido, toda la historia comienza cuando estando con Shell Septinos quien parece ser su dueño, este decidí colocarle fin a su vida y además parece tener una extraña y perversa costumbre de luego de asesinar a sus víctimas, las convierte en anillo de diamante azul, es aquí cuando aparecen el Dr Easter y Oeufcoque para lograr salvarla cuando estaba a punto de morir y cuando Shell ya se había ido pensando que ya era inevitable la muerte de Balot.

Desde un inicio se presenta múltiples preguntas relacionadas al aspecto de ciencia ficción, se nos presenta que de alguna manera Oeufcoque puede saber exactamente que sentimientos o emociones albergan las personas debido a su olor, puede sentir el miedo o hasta el instinto homicida de alguien según como huele y esto genera más preguntas cuando se muestra que Oeufcoque es una especie de ser vivo sintético creado por el gobierno que además puede convertirse prácticamente en cualquier objeto o ser viviente, mayormente tiene la forma de un pequeño ratón de pelaje dorado que puede hablar. También se muestra como parece que Shell tuvo una extraña operación en donde incluso puede olvidar recuerdos pasados, guardarlos en respaldos externos y prácticamente poder estar sin ningún recuerdo de su vida como una forma de “nacer” desde cero sin recuerdos.

Poco a poco se va explicando un poco sobre el pasado tan trágico de Balot, como termino al lado de alguien tan peligroso y corrupto como Shell, los crímenes y peligros detrás de Shell y como incluso parece que simplemente es alguien que trata de subir en la escalera de poder de este mundo tan corrupto y oscuro, por otro lado se muestra como Easter y Oeufcoque son parte de antiguas investigaciones del gobierno durante la época de guerra y ahora parecen que pertenecen a un división especial, su objetivo es tratar de demostrar todos los actos malvados de Shell y conseguir su condena para de cierta forma afectar a todos sus superiores a quienes el parece ayudarlos con su imperio criminal. Por este motivo será muy importante que protejan a Balot para poder contar con su declaración en los juicios.

Al principio podemos ver como Balot además de tener un gran miedo, también siente desconfianza hacia Easter y Oeufcoque al sentir que toda su vida ha estado sola sin que nadie la apoye y cuando alguien parecía ayudarla era por intereses propios o para luego hacerla sufrir mucho más, también se muestra como poco a poco va consiguiendo confiar en Oeufcoque quien al mismo tiempo empatiza con ella y parece querer ayudarla no solo a completar el caso contra Shell, sino también protegerla y ayudarla a estar más a gusto con su propia vida así como tratar de superar todos los traumas de su pasado. Como se podría esperar de una historia de este estilo, hay personajes realmente perturbadores y con habilidades y fuerza increíblemente absurda lo cual consigue dar escenas de acción y combate increíbles, como Balot también fue modificada para poder sobrevivir, su agilidad y capacidad para el combate aumenta mucho cuando aprende a utilizar sus nuevas habilidades

La estética y desarrollo general de la historia se basa mayormente en el drama, suspenso y elementos psicológicos, el estilo de animación y las tonalidades tan oscuras combinan muy bien con todo el aspecto dramático que no presenta esta película, la vida tan triste y dramática que ha tenido que soportar Balot y como parece que para ella todo ha sido normal, se puede apreciar como ya esta acostumbrada a las desgracias en su vida, a pesar de contar con un aspecto más dramático, esta película también presenta varia escenas de acción bastante emocionantes al final de la historia, incluso presenta esa escena tan épica de las películas de acción cuando detienes las balas de los enemigos con tus propia balas, lo único negativo es que su final termina en un momento crucial te muestra los créditos en el momento más impactante, generándote esa necesidad de buscar rápidamente la siguiente película para saber que sucede.

Synopsis: Charlotte is a young teenager who (in secret) decides to raise a mysterious spider as a pet. However, as the animal grows at an overwhelmingly fast rate, she and her entire family must deal with the true brutal and bloodthirsty nature of this creature.

While post-2000s cinema is still struggling to find its own identity within the industry, making use of any beneficial reference to the past is usually a very valuable resource for many movies. On the other hand, if this idea is not well used within a narrative, it is very likely that the dynamics of the story will only recall the past, without bringing anything new to the present. This is exactly what happens with this project, which recalls an atmosphere of the 80s, but fails to go beyond that, because all attempts are misguided and boring.

Within a relatively “claustrophobic” setting (because the entire movie takes place inside an older building, in the midst of a violent blizzard, forcing each resident to remain “trapped” in their apartments), everything the movie tries to do ends up being sabotaged by an extremely shallow script with no major explanations. In the plot involving a “dysfunctional” family in crisis (this being the dramatic support of the script), we have a very charismatic protagonist fighting to destroy the spider that she once thought was just a “peculiar” pet.

There is a mix of science fiction, drama, comedy (yes, jokes that are supposed to be funny, but in fact, end up being annoying to watch when they are said by even more unbearable characters) and “horror” that really doesn’t work. Despite having a decent setting, nothing else works in favor of this movie, which even though it is less than 90 minutes long, seems to be even longer due to the slow pace at which things happen (even though it gives a false impression that everything is happening too quickly due to its “biased editing”).

The script relies on the lack of expository dialogue to show what is happening, and once it chooses to go down this path, the script literally shows the things happening to the viewer in a very detailed way (it is almost as if the audience were being treated as someone with a high attention deficit), and we know that when this needs to be used within a narrative as simple as this one (which really does not bring anything new or complex), it is because the essence of the project has nothing substantial to be developed anywhere.

Random characters are all presented without the slightest kind of depth, almost as if they were disposable figures in the plot (which ironically ends up happening). The protagonist, as well as the rest of the cast, is implausible, despite being “naturally” smart. In general, all the performances are bad, and there is no possibility of having any empathy for any of the characters (with the exception of a helpless baby). A brief attempt to make them interact within a more cohesive scenario happens, but it is still very superficial.

By choosing not to fully explain what happens, the script also makes some bets on horror gore, delivering only a single scene worthy of a horror movie of this level... The rest are just a few seconds where the threat of the plot is treated as a mere supporting character without much importance (when in fact, it should be the opposite). Things simply happen, as if it were something quite natural to have a mutant spider walking through a building through the air ducts, entering and leaving apartments, kidnapping its victims, and imprisoning them.

This is a show I had pending on my list for quite a long time. It has been years since its release, with a cancellation during season 2, but still, I wanted to watch it. Carnival Row is a series that blends fantasy tales from Northeast Europe with the cultural context of the Industrial Revolution in England. It can be discouraging to start watching a show doomed after a short period, yet I wanted to see this combination of elements converge into a new world and how stories were told. I just finished the first season, and these are my thoughts about the series.

Maybe it is because I grew up reading fairy tales with my mother, or perhaps growing up in a house of old, British books around me, but I love fantasy stories involving fairies, magical forests, different fantastic creatures, and a British environment. My mother and I went through all the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales before I even attended primary school. Thus, my curiosity for creations such as this series is always high. Carnival Row brings the theme of Fay (fairy people) into a past contemporary world and mixes it in a realistic-ish approach.

The story is about ancient creatures (called Critchs, for short) leaving their lands as a war between two empires unfolded. Many sought refuge in a city named the Burgue. Fay refugees arrive here and always concentrate in a place called Carnival Row, where pleasure, addictions, mystic arts, and secrets abound. From the beginning, we follow the story of Vignette, a fay who helped others of her kind to flee lands occupied by The Pact (one of the nations at war). She arrives at the Burgue only by a miracle and starts her life there. Soon she finds out the man whom she loved, mourned, and thought was dead, Philo, was alive as a police inspector in the Row.

Things get complicated when strange assaults and murders start to happen in the best Agatha Christie style. Soon, things evolve from ordinary murder to magical prevention of a prophecy. In the middle of it all, we also discover several characters' traditions among fay and critchs, intolerance among peoples, and even some love.

I have to point out that the quality of Effect is high for a series, and I read it sadly contributed to its cancellation. The budget was high, and although it was well received by the audience, it didn't make enough impact to keep the project. Yet, I do enjoy fairies with well-done wings, nice creature makeup, great ambience, and high camera cinematics.

Each chapter reveals a little bit of mystery; it is just the right amount to keep us interested and watching. The end provides the satisfaction and reward of understanding everything about the mysteries and the main characters while leaving everything prepared for a major conflict in the Burgue: a possible civil war between Critchs and humans. It is hard not to draw some parallels with today's conflicts with migrants and wars around the world. I think it invites reflection, especially around cultural diversity and tolerance.

In the end, I recommend this series. It is a well-rounded story that won't leave you hanging if you only see season one. It has a bit of everything to keep you interested and invested. I hope it keeps that way during season two, and who knows, maybe the project is reactivated in the future. In my opinion, the film aims to tackle a "realistic" factor: an seemingly ordinary person confronts a powerful system armed only with their intellect. In this movie, we won't find a super agent like James Bond, Jason Bourne, or John Wick. He's an IT specialist who uses reason and ingenuity to hunt down his wife's killers. This doesn't mean the film lacks action; quite the opposite, there's plenty, but it's where normal people don't perform crazy maneuvers taking out dozens of others.

La película en mi opinión pretende abordar un factor "realista" alguien que aparenta ser común se enfrenta a un sistema poderoso solo con su ingenio. En esta película no encontraremos al súper agente 007, a Jason Bourne o John Wick. Es un informático que usa la razón para y su ingenio para ir cazando a los culpables de su esposa. Ahora bien, esto no quiere decir que la película carece de acción, todo lo contrario, hay suficiente pero es una donde las personas normales no hacen maniobras descabelladas acabando con decenas de personas.

Would I recommend this film? Without a doubt. If you enjoy spy stories, you should see it and weigh it against other genre entries; you'll realize it has its own unique appeal, speaking positively.

Greetings to all the movie lovers who make up the hive community. Today I want to share my review and opinion of the movie The Menu, which was released several months ago but which I saw recently. It is a thriller, dark comedy, and psychological horror film that addresses the eccentricities of the wealthy in relation to food.

It begins with a couple flirting with each other, which led me to believe that the man was courting the woman, but they were not yet dating. He invites her to enjoy a luxury dining experience reserved for only a few, paying more than a thousand dollars per person for the experience. The woman is astonished by the price, which leads me to believe that she is from a different social class.

All the people who reserved their spots are picked up at a port where they board a yacht to an unknown island. They are people of different ages and styles, including an older married couple, a trio of friends, a food critic and her assistant, and an actor with his manager, among others. The only thing they have in common is that they are millionaires and wanted to have an unforgettable experience.

The couple I described at the beginning are the protagonists. The man is a fan of food reality shows and admires the chef who directs the entire menu. The girl, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is not excited about the dishes she will try or the great experience. She only went to work as a companion and wanted her pay. Maintaining that detached attitude toward all the supposed luxury is what allowed her to survive the chaos that ensued.

Once the group arrived on the island, they realized they were cut off from communication and had to follow certain rules. Eighty percent of the story took place in the island's restaurant, where the chef, played by the great actor Ralph Fiennes, began his show by presenting each bite with a dark narrative describing its name and why it was called that. The first few were very eloquent and thoughtful, but little by little each dish became personal, that is, each story was murky, painful, and distasteful, which made Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) stop eating and refuse to obey, being the first to realize that no one would leave that dinner alive.

As for the dishes, they were not eye-catching or the main focus of the film, as is often the case in other food films. Here, the main plot was the menu, its meaning, and the chef's feeling of loss regarding his passion, not feeling that his dedication to serving and creating was sufficiently valued, losing his sense of purpose in life. This enraged him because paying an excessive price for something does not mean that it is appreciated. This is a social critique of class inequality and the value given to some things that do not deserve it, even surpassing the love of life itself. It also exposes fanaticism towards a belief or person.

The menu has scenes that surprise and shock. I liked that they maintained a balance between suspense and comedy. There isn't much gore, which I also found appropriate. The ending made me think about empathy, and I ended up with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, not because of the food but because of the moment and the emotion expressed by the protagonist while eating. You have to see it to understand what I mean. I recommend it if you like these genres, but it is not suitable for children.
