Episode 6 was one of the most intense episodes of the series so far, got so many threads getting to a conclusion and some to an almost no return point, especially with how careful the tension builds right from the opening, where Irina walks up to her Moscow apartment and notices the security tape on the door is broken. She steps inside looking for Tanya, finds broken glass on the floor next to a dropped photo of a young Irina standing next to Brezhnev, which tells you Tanya saw it and probably panicked. Tanya just starts running into the Moscow streets, ducking into a cafe to use her lipstick to mark a wall before slipping back out, then down under a bridge to a bench by the water, using that old exit plan Valya told her about to finally reach the Americans without even knowing if it was all true because for the most part she thought Valya was getting played by the Americans. You can tell from her face how terrified she was while she waits and it is such a dramatic moment that proofs how good acting is on this series, this show can build suspense without a single action scene. I love how they balance this quiet spy stuff with the massive dangers happening up in orbit, obviously up there its more dangerous because once you make a mistake most of the time is over but on Star City it almost feel like they have no place to go, would be interesting if Tanya really makes it ou alife. I think the series also proof how you do not need explosions to hold attention, just people making terrified decisions while their whole reality falls apart, how Tanya scramble for her life, wondering if Irina would catch up to her before the American handler got there first.

This episode does a good job at how it isolate Valya up on the spacecraft with a cold, calculated manipulation because in that short time he manage to fool quite the amount of people because neither the Chief Designer or the police knew where the fuck he was and what he was up to. The Chief Designer and Colonel Raskova cannot just radio up and tell Sasha to lock up his best friend, so they bring in Lakshmis husband Manu and pass him off as a spouse getting a rare chance to talk to his wife in Hindi. The Chief Designer slips Manu a note telling him to have Lakshmi reset the some electrical relay like its routine maintenance and she does it without a second thought, all this with the excuse so they can get more talk time but it should felt weird for Sasha at least, I would say Valya didnt catch it because he was probably too scared. Once that reset goes through, the Chief Designer sends Valya into the utility module for a systems check right before the hatch slams shut and locks him in. I have to say this scene makes your stomach drop because you realize how they just trapp him and when Raskova gets on the radio and flat out tells him he is under arrest for treason. Sasha refuses to believe it and pulls a fuse to cut the feed with mission control himself, on that private conversation between Sasha and Valya we got some of the best acting in the episode, Sasha wants his friend to deny it and instead Valya breaks down and admits he did it to protect Tanya. Sasha telling him a man is dead because of those choices, it felt almost like you got blood on your hands, I got blood on your hands because of your treason, there is no other way around it and it gives so much weigth to Valya desicions when he could easily either run away or risk it and go with the state to "protect" them, yeah sounds easy but one way or the other the state would think he is lying and still get them both kill just to cut down the risk or an actual spy on their camp.

Im really enjoying the way this show handles its space story, reminds me of old paranoid cold war movies where the real enemy is not the environment but the bureaucrats pulling strings from comfortable desks back home. The Chief Designer secretly launched an unauthorized mission to Venus just to grab glory for the Soviet Union, believing a successful orbit would make the central committee forgive it. But the show flips that on its head once the standoff with Valya escalates and Colonel Raskova orders the utility module depressurized to execute him without a trial. Her cold, emotionless face while she orders the death of her own cosmonauts turns the show in something a lot darker with a no hope situation and tells you that there is literally no way out of the system. When the Chief Designer refuses to let Valya die and secretly has Sergey open the hatch, he chooses basic decency over party loyalty and gets arrested on the spot, calling Raskova a monster as the guards drag him off. That is the real clash here, scientific progress against ruthless control, but terror escalates when Raskova decides the whole spacecraft has to be purged since Sasha and Lakshmi saved a traitor, and Sergey refuses to depressurize it, so she pulls a gun on another terrified engineer and forces him to flip the switches or put a bullet through his head on the spot, the man choose to keep his life.

There are always a few cracks though and for me the whole sequence of Irina tracking the American felt too easy and convenient, sometimes the shows does this by giving this easy wins, not sure if its to simplify things, its already very dark with a lot of moving pieces. Irina goes to a local concert hall and just happens to find a coat check lady who perfectly remembers the American, saying she comes three or four times a month and always leaves at the first intermission. It felt too convenient and it kept going when Irina follows the American through the streets and slips a tracking device on her right before the two get split up across different buses in the crowd, tech that feels a little too advanced for this era. My frustration hit its peak when Irina picks the lock on the safe house apartment and creeps around while Tanya is drying her hair with a loud hairdryer. We get a huge revelation right before that, the American handler explaining Tanya was the actual target all along because of her old music smuggling ring, meaning Valya was blackmailed just to protect her and that they basically hit the jackpot when he got involve on the space program. That is a great plot development, but it gets buried under the awkward fight after, where Tanya grabs a heavy lamp and smacks Irina over the head, and suddenly this KGB operative looks completely unprepared, like why Irina is going so easy on Tanya? we know she can be ruthless although I think there is going to be a limit for this kindness from her, like knocked out by a scared woman swinging a lamp,, she can do better than that.

The end of this episode leaves you staring at a completely devastating situation, no hope left, just a massive tragedy dropped right in your lap. As the oxygen gets sucked out of the spacecraft, Sasha scrambles looking for any way to stop the remote depressurization commands coming from mission control, ripping a panel open in one last desperate move and pulling a bundle of wires trying to cut the power. Then I think somehow the cables short out instead, sending a spark into the small space although Im not sure how it ignites into a fire that fills up the whole compartment in bright orange flames. The feed goes dead, mission control is left staring helplessly at silent screens and you are stuck with the reality that three people are probably dead on a spacecraft already well into its long trip to Venus. There is no heroic rescue, just fire and silence and the fact that Raskova basically had her own crew killed to snuff out a security threat the second Sasha and Lakshmi tried to save a supposed traitor, I mean where were they going anyways? its this power hunger that made her kill them all, the most logic option would have been let them complete the mission and then make sure to keep them locked up until they arrive once they hit Earth again. This series have this kind of bold move to leave you wondering if a whole group of characters survived this early in the season, leaving Tanya alone with the knowledge that the Americans used her to get to her own husband the entire time. Things really escalate fast on this episode, we go from confirm Valya is missing to get them all killed, plus the end of the episode doesnt really confirm if they all three dead for sure or if the ship blew appart but considering they were on this strong sphere I would doubt it. The scenes in space or I would say related to the ship is what really kept the episode alife and they push this story into some very dark, unpredictable territory. I am giving this episode a solid 7.5/10 because it takes massive risks and delivers real tension, and it proves this series is not playing it safe, right now if we think about it half of the core characters are dead and they would have to build a second story, as important around it.

Hello, everyone. How are you all doing today? I will be giving you guys my review on a cartoon, (SPIES IN DISGUISE : 2019)but trust me, it's not just any cartoon. It's one that has lots of lessons. It's a movie that reflects on friendship, trust and what sacrifice really means.

Let's dive in. Will Smith played the role of Agent Lance Sterling, who worked for an agency, and Walter was one of the inventors in the Agency. I think Walter is the main character in the movie, because he acted well. People called him weird because he always thinks in the opposite direction from others.

Walter made me love the movies because of his zeal and passion, even when nobody believed in him.

He believes in dealing with bad guys in a safer way. Nobody understood him, or even liked him, except his mom, who always encouraged him and told him one day his inventions would save the world. But he was fired by Agent Sterling because he changed some of his weapons.

On a mission to get back a war machine that was stolen from the agency, Agent Sterling was cloned by a man with a robot hand. He bought the machine from the thieves and used Agent Sterling's face to frame him.

Agent Kappel, who is from another agency, believes and also convinces everyone that the man with the robot hand was Agent Starling, because the man was still in possession of the machine.

Agent Starling had to clear his name of the accusations, so he went back to Walter and asked him for help. They both embarked on a mission to find robot-hand(the guy who bought the machine) and clear Agent Starling's name of the accusations

You can try this movie and see for yourself, it's really cool. This movie really shows what teamwork is like; it shows how passion and positive thinking can change a lot of things.

Episode 3 of this House of the Dragon season is the one where the greens finally show they have been playing a smarter game than anyone would have though, even making me suspect Alison was play out by Aemond small council, like ok if at some point we start loosing we will still make Kings Landing a living hell for the Targaryen, the episode kicks off where Daemon shows up with Caraxes, Silverwing, and Vermithor to face down Ormund Hightower and his army of fifteen thousand men. You would think Ormund puts up a fight considering he is holding a Valyrian steel sword named Vigilance, but he just bends the knee and surrenders on the spot, handing over a boy with bleached blond hair claiming to be Daeron Targaryen. Daemon takes the win, telling Ormund to turn his army around and march them home, back down the Roseroad to Oldtown but the greens really took him for a fool, I can only imagine his face when Rhaenyra lit his ass on fire so now not only he got to solve that specific screw up but also there is Rhaena and Sheepstealer waiting for him on the Vale. Matt Smith plays Daemon with so much arrogance on that scene that I had to admit made me a bit mad about it, it starting to feel like the Reds are not the good guys either, got to love the scene too because there is real tension and Ormund is way too calm about handing over the prince, which tells you the greens are running some kind of long game. For a breaf moment there was fake Daeron sit on Tessarion makes me question how did that happen, Dragons dont let a stranger sit on them unless their rider is on sight, that made it easier to fool Daemon too since none of the blacks have actually seen the real kid in years. The pacing feels a little off with how fast the surrender happens, but it works as a setup to get Daemon to lower his guard and it all plays out in broad daylight, showing off the scale of both armies and how small Tessarion looks next to the older dragons. This trickery sets the tone for the episode, a chess match where dragon muscle means nothing if you get outsmarted.

After that surrender we watch Rhaenyra actually try to rule Kings Landing and how she deals with the hoarding merchants is easily the best part of this episode but puts her in such a tight situation and probably withouth even notice, I think it would be easier for her to show off muscle rather than just try to make justice, in the end its the same thing but by showing her dragon muscle people would know she means business and not a fake fragile version of justice, I bet soon this same "lords" going to put a price on her head. She calls a bunch of rich minor nobles into a grand banquet room, puts on a polite face, then serves them cooked rats on platters. Emma Darcy acts the hell out of this scene, projecting cold authority while pointing out these merchants sat on food during the blockade while common people starved. Dan Fogler as Torrhen Manderly sitting there with a sneaky smirk while everyone else looks ready to vomit really set this guy a smart guy who likes chess and dont see life in two colors only, he even told Rhaenyra well play. The rats have been running all over the Red Keep eating the candles, so using them to punish the greedy elite is a dope, poetic move too. Its hilarious how the show comes up with the "ups Im bleeding" , her period starts right before court, leaving her gripping through cramps while she hears petitioners, vulnerable and determined at the same time. The rich openly disrespecting the starving population pushes her into full on socialist queen mode, taking their hoarded grain while they stare down at rat meat. When I saw the banquet I knew something was off because they all been complaining about been tight on gold and food, the moment they serve the food was the key moment when everything went south, I thought she was going to directly call them rats because some of them might work with the greens, this scene was soo good even though was short too, because they show her trying to be merciful while still handing out harsh punishment to people who earned it, but I still think Daemon was right, rule with iron fist, dont try to be just in front of this people because you going to look weak.

The political stuff is great but there are sections that drag, mainly whenever Rhaenyra spaces out to a ringing bell sound while hallucinating her dead son Jace, this happen several times, I think is that Targaryen madness starting to show off. That audio trick to signal she is stressed gets repetitive fast, especially when she wanders the old bedroom of Viserys unable to sleep. Then there is this scene with Rhaenyra and Daemon talking in High Valyrian where Daemon wants to conquer the world, rambling about flying to Yi Ti and a mythical City of Winged Men, giving her a speech about being gods with six dragons, when they do not even have money for food, at this point they need to be in good side of other noble houses but lets be real, its been too long since Aegon was seen as the true king and Rhaenyra the one trying to conquer Kings Landing so the narrative has change quite a bit and people tend to forget really fast. It was expected that at some point there was an episode that would slow things down and the cast still sold it, especially once Rhaenyra shuts down Daemon by bringing up Viserys and his warnings about unchecked power, pointing at the Doom of Valyria as proof, Viserys was a good king and he rule during times of peace but its totally different and nobody knows what he would do in Rhaenyra's shoes by right now. Then High Septon Balman flat out refuses to recognize Rhaenyra publicly since nobody has shown the body of Aegon to prove he is dead, standing under the statue of Viserys and smugly telling her dragons are unnatural magic born out of darkness. I get they want to show the faith pushing back, but her taking that insult without tossing him in a dungeon feels off for a queen at war, like they are throwing every obstacle at her at once and slowing the momentum but I think in the back this is just making the fire bigger and bigger.

You can really feel this episode building on tension from last season, especially in how Corlys Velaryon has changed from backing Rhaenyra without question. Seems like most critical moments of the episode happen during dinner, there is this very very uncomfortable dinner where Corlys asks the queen to legitimize his bastards Alyn and Addam as Velaryons, naming Alyn as his heir so the Driftmark line survives. Corlys once accepted Lucerys as his heir just to keep the peace but now that he has lost his wife, his castle and most of his fleet, he wants real recognition for his own blood. Rhaenyra does not answer him at dinner and it was so weird that it all finish into a kind of flashback, almost like she just skipt time, her decision only becomes clear later, during the knighting of the dragonseeds, when Addam gets styled only as Addam of Hull instead of a Velaryon because she is worried it will remind everyone her son Joffrey is a bastard too but honestly who cares if she got six dragons and sits the throne, I think thats a problem for latter and not for now and should have name Alyn and Addam both Valeryon's. She tells Corlys afterward that she cannot legitimize the brothers right now and Steve Toussaint is phenomenal here, losing his temper and screaming right in her face, calling her own children bastards in front of the castle staff. It is a hell of a contrast to the loyal sea snake we knew, showing how isolating that throne really is. She is also dealing with the fallout from Tyland Lannister splitting up the crown gold and sending it off for safekeeping, leaving the treasury so thin there is barely enough to last a week or two, makes it clear the greens where not helping the small foke at all, this is what eventually force her into rigid calls that keep alienating the people who put her on the throne. Watching this play out feels like slowly but surely everyone hating the reds, like two people who need each other tearing their alliance apart over pride, proving fighting your friends can be harder than fighting your enemies.

The end is so damn satisfying when Rhaenyra decides to show mercy by sending captive Daeron to the wall to join the Night Watch, and when Alicent asks for one final look at the boy, Rhaenyra allows it before he ships out. The second Alicent looks at this terrified kid with bleached hair, she knows instantly it is a fake and the illusion of that river victory falls apart, it was the look on her eyes and Rhaenyra reads it right away but I like her stance as she calls it "she doesnt recognize him" almost like waiting for Alicent to tell the truth. Right after that bomb drops, a surviving dragon keeper shows up at the gates with news that Ormund Hightower has marched on Tumbleton and taken the market town hostage, using regular civilians as human shields so Rhaenyra cannot just send her dragons in to burn the army down. You can see pure rage in Emma Darcy eyes watching guards toss the green Hightower banners into a bonfire, flames reflecting in her face, building up that Targaryen madness as her peaceful transition goes to hell, I bet she is going to start wearing that sword more often soon. I am giving this one an 8/10 because even with a few slow moments, the political maneuvering and betrayals here are just damn awesome, how the greens have outsmart them, playing mind games even between themself predicting the weak links. She has no money, the faith hates her, her closest allies are furious and the enemy just outsmarted her entire dragon advantage in one move. There has to be fire and blood on next episode, either someone head or some sort of armies clashing.

What is reality?

Around the time I was twenty, I found these questions of exceptional importance. In fact, they seemed to be THE essence of the whole issue we call consciousness. How come not everyone was talking about them, all the time? Eventually, after going around in circles numerous times without reaching a satisfactory conclusion, they became less pressing, though my interest in them remained.

As these things happen to happen, at the right time and the right place, there was a film that came out just then (early 2001), addressing many of these questions: Waking Life, written and directed by Richard Linklater. I remember seeing it the theaters at first, and I was so fascinated by it that I wanted to stay to watch it again. However, my friends I went to see it with were not up to it, so I left the cinema yearning for more. Not much later the film came out on DVD, and then there was nothing to stop me from watching it again and again, like a little kid, until I could (almost) quote each scene.

Not Your Typical Movie

Waking Life is nothing like a normal film with character development or a story arc. It is much more like a "dream within a dream", a sequence of unrelated scenes, with characters that mostly appear only once in the whole movie. The only exception is the protagonist, a young guy, who sort of passes through them without doing too much either. In fact, many scenes do not even include him. In the ones that do, his interaction is minimal, especially during the first half of the film. Instead, he is observing, listening, and absorbing what the other people are talking about. Which is really the entire point of the movie.

Philosophical Questions Discussed in a Surreal Dreamspace

Apart from the deep questions addressed in the monologues of each scene, what makes this film a masterpiece is the technique it was created with: Rotoscoping is called when live-action footage is painted over, creating a realistic animation, depending on how close to reality they are painted over. And that's where this technique highlights the dreamlike feel of the movie. It even includes scenes where the main character wakes up in bed, but continues experiencing the same dream, leading to other false awakenings later on.

Are All The Questions Dream Related?

At first it is not obvious, but as the film progresses it becomes more and more evident that the main issue is whether it's a dream or not. And how we can tell? And finally, how to wake up? In fact, all of life's questions somehow lead back to this (not just in this movie, as you might have guessed). Some are expressed in the mad ramblings of a conspiracy nut, others in the gentle pillow talk of a young couple. Some ideas may come from a discussion with a university professor, while others from a hobo in a train yard. The characters are just as wide ranging as the actors playing them, including various cameos. Linklater himself appears at the end of the movie, giving perhaps the most important clues.

Waking Up in a Dream, in Real Life

Take this weird experience I had not too long ago: On my bike trip down the Baja California I was camping on a beach next to volcano near San Quintín. In the early morning hours I had a dream that I was back home in the city. It was cold, wet, and dark, I had just woken up to an alarm, and was getting ready to go to work. In my pre-coffee daze I remembered my dream, that I was in a beautiful part of the world, camping on a beach right next to volcano. Then I woke up for real!

As I was packing up my tent, I was contemplating that waking up in my dream had felt just as real. And also the interesting notion, of what happens to the dream world once we wake up? Ultimately Linklater's Waking Life came to mind. Not that this film offers any real answers... But what it most certainly does, is raise some questions. Questions that we're welcome to ignore, until we eventually circle back to them.

This is a series I watched last week and I thought I'd post a review about it as it was really good and those who like the interwar period and detective stories as well, might like to give it a shot. I love them both, so here I am with the review.

Summer of 36 is a limited series, has only one season which consists of six episodes. It's the perfect length for a nice story and I appreciate the writers didn't want to ruin it by making it longer, as it happens so often these days.

Nice, 1936. The elite vacationing on the Côte d'Azur are disturbed by workers enjoying their first paid holidays. Four women from different classes become entangled in a murder at the luxurious Riviera Hotel.

Before we go on, I need to specify that my French is not up to day, it's been ages since I last spoke or used French, so for a better experience I chose English dubbing, which is important because sometimes it can ruin the whole series or movie, or it can add to its value and thank God, here I got the latter. It's really good I must admit.

The storyline says four women from different classes become entangled in a murder, but I'd update that to four women from different classes become entangled in a murder in a different way, but more about it later.

The 30's were still the times when women had limited rights or let's just say, were not treated equally, which is why getting hired in key positions was out of the question.

Constance Gay is playing Léonie Morel, a young woman arriving to Nice and taking a role in the local police force, as police assistant. This usually means filing papers and other office tasks, but Léonie Morel is capable of much more. Her skills become obvious from the start and even though the police chief is suspicious and skeptical, still let's her do what she does best, investigate. Léonie's ambition is not fueled exclusively by her professional aspirations, she has ulterior motives to do this work in Nice, which are way bigger than her professional aspirations.

Filmmakers like to cover such topics and even though this series is not the same, still make me think of Miss Scarlet, Frankie Drake Mysteries, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries, just to name a few.

The four women, the main characters could not be any different, which makes the whole series more interesting. It's not the first of this genre that I see, and no matter how many I watch, this type of story will never make me bored.

Léonie Morel as mentioned above, is working as a police assistant but she also has her own investigation as her father is accused of murder, awaiting execution. This is not the only crime in the series, there are other cases too, obviously that are connected in one way or another. The prosecutor handling the case of her father gets murdered as well and guessing starts regarding who had a motive and opportunity to do it. What I loved about it was how the story writers plant seeds of doubt in the viewers' mind.

She manages to make progress with her investigation and as the story is from 1936, you can imagine investigations were very different from what an investigation means today. It is interesting to watch the methods they were using back in those days. You have to switch your brain off from always noticing the small details, like leaving fingerprints everywhere, or picking a lock and not worrying about cameras, as there were none back then and then you'll love it.

It is the type of series where you have a new suspect every 15 minutes and most of the characters come under suspicion during the six episodes for some reason. It's a nice mind game and the ending really original. It caught my by surprise, I'm not going to lie.

From moral point of view, the series deviates from what is the right thing to do these days (and should have been back then as well), but it's a series, not a real life story.

The costumes and locations were carefully selected to make you feel the vibes of those times and the case is remarkable too, I have no complaints in this regard.

Give it a try if you like movies from those times. You won't regret it. It's a slow paced story, perfect for nights when your brain needs rest.

Plot

Three part-time army reservists and a master sergeant are ordered to take part in an airborne mission to Iraq.

Things go wrong mid-flight, and instead of landing on Iraqi territory, they find themselves in a Mexican village.

They mistake the locals for enemies, and the next thing you know they are clearing the place from bandits.

The bandits will not surrender without a fight, and they come back to restore their power in the village of La Miranda, which results in all sorts of funny situations.

Everyday people can become heroes

As far as I can tell, the key theme of the movie revolves around part-time Army Reservists and their role in war conflict.

How effective they are in this role depends on their level of training.

Their military readiness and skill are highly questioned and satirized throughout the movie, since they lag well behind those of regular military staff.

However, these ordinary people can still emerge victorious at the end.

Decorations are not only given to members of elite army units, but they can also awarded to average Joes who can excel in situations of uncertainty, and even when heavily outnumbered.

What made me laugh in this satirical comedy
