En días pasados, en medio de una conversación casual, salió el comentario sobre esta película protagonizada por Taraji P. Henson, llamada "Straw" (Harta en la traducción al español) y aunque no soy de seguir recomendaciones con frecuencia, el solo hecho de su mención me causó curiosidad.

La chica con quien hablaba, una mujer de mi edad, viuda y con dos hijas, me comenta que salvando las diferencias se sintió identificada con la protagonista, y justo eso fue lo que me llevó a verla, no sé si para mi beneficio o para drenar toda la impotencia que arrastro desde hace mucho.

Janiyah Witkinson, una mujer afroamericana y madre soltera, debe asumir tantas responsabilidades, que la sobrepasan, sobre todo cuando los problemas van llegando uno tras otro.

Al comenzar a desarrollarse la trama, me hizo recordar la historia de "un día de furia" que protagonizó Michael Douglas en 1993, ya que los hechos que van sucediendo se entrelazan para generar el caos mental en el personaje principal.

Quizás para muchos, las acciones pudieran ser solo consecuencias de un colapso nervioso, pero en el caso de las personas que se encuentran en situaciones desesperadas, la empatía con el personaje de Janiyah se da desde que la película empieza.

En mi caso, luego del primer punto de retorno, cuando la casera la amenaza con desalojarla por falta de pago, ya empecé a sentir en carne propia todo el drama, aunque no he pasado por una situación similar, reconozco que cada fin de mes mis niveles de stress aumentan con la llegada de esta obligación, pues no siempre cuento con el total del monto.

Jeniyah representa a todo aquel que debe hacerse cargo de todo en la familia, sin contar con apoyo de nadie: no tiene amigos, ni alguna otra persona en quien depositar parte de su carga. Además, su hija tiene una condición que la hace convulsionar, por lo que sus nervios siempre la mantienen atenta, no hay descanso ni físico, ni mental.

Su final, un plot que termina de hacer explotar las lágrimas del espectador, o en su defecto, bajar los niveles de ansiedad.

Un guión predecible en algunas partes, pero con unas actuaciones impecables de parte de la protagonista y de la gerente del banco donde se sucede la mayor parte de la trama.

Si estás sensible, no recomiendo verla, a menos que hagas como yo que terminé drenando muchas angustias y vaciando mis glándulas lacrimales durante casi una hora, y aclaro que soy difícil para llorar.

I love watching movies, actually, some may say that my goal this year is to explore as many different types and themes of movies as I can. I'm certainly well on the way there as the amount of my reviews and movies on my watch list are becoming much more longer. Like I said, I've watched different themes and yet one that I feel is overused and I tend to definitely avoid are those about racism.

Now I don't try to avoid these type of shows because they are bad, I try to avoid them because they are too good. So good that one seems to lose heart in the human race and it's ability to hate on others because of minor differences. These type of movies have a knack of pointing that facts out, especially if the movie is based off real events.

Just Mercy

Just Mercy is a movie based off real live events, so I can't really praise the writing or the plot due to the fact that this isn't entirely fiction, yet I can praise the actors that help bring this story to life here. We get to see just how unfair it was back then, just how sad, rough and tough it is to be different, where you're guilty is based just of your darker skin. The actors owned this show and not only Jordan, Fox and Morgan. Actors like Blake Nelson and Rafe Spall with their characters Ralph Myers and Tommy Chapman respectively moved me. They showed the people that didn't hate themselves, but moved to hate due to their environment and outside pressure.

The story is a good one, and thankfully didn't end as a tragedy, yet I do have some troubling thoughts about it. For surely it's a show that celebrates the win that Bryan Stevenson had yet it showcases the ruthlessness of hatred and just how far it'll go. All in all, it's a wonderful movie and I hear the book is even more detailed. I give the movie a 8/10 rating. Instagram hits again!

I don’t know what I thought I was doing when I set out to watch a movie titled “Old Guy”. Did I half expect to see an old man with super powers or abilities, yes I did. But on the contrary, what I saw got me so pissed off.

The mismatched pair is asked to assassinate top members of a rival crime syndicate and while they are at it, they discover a deep secret that would change their entire perspective.

This action thriller film was directed by Simon West and has a run time of 104 minutes. Released on the 24th of March, 2024, the film stars veteran actors like Christoph Waltz, Cooper Hoffman, Lucy Liu and Kate Katzman.

## My Opinion


I have never explicitly called a movie boring because I understand the hard work, effort and resources put into making a movie a success. But after giving this movie a second thought and a third, I will classify it as *boring et bland*. I was bored out of my mind while seeing this film but judging from the fact that many movies climax towards the end, I decided to give the film the benefit of doubt. And I regretted doing so.

The characters performed very poorly. I'm very big on the idea that proper roleplay by the characters makes a good movie. A plot can be very brilliant but without dedicated characters, it's just a wasted plot. This film had a pretty good plot but the characters messed things up in my opinion. From the title of the movie, one would expect an old guy to be one of the lead characters and this was the case. But the old guy here absolutely under performed. I say this because I've seen the likes of Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro act in their old age and they still have the fire. Yet, an old assassin surrounded by a bunch of younger actors is underperforming. Also, some characters who were supposed to contribute fully to the action just appeared once or twice, talked for the entire period and that was it.


Need I mention the scenes that looked and seemed very unreal. The scene where an ironing board was used to block bullets from another assassin got me reeling in shock. An agile female assassin couldn't shoot down a man with an ironing board for a shield and when she ran out of bullets, it took her almost a minute to take out the refill from her pocket. Why? Then there was the scene with a fake fire. Once I saw the very first flaw, the rest of the flaws kept coming. More or less like a domino effect.

The director's attempt to blend action and comedy results in a messy, uneven tone that fails to deliver on either front. The film's pacing is uneven with scenes that do not add up.

I guess one of the reasons why this movie struck the wrong cords is because it's supposed to be a fluffing action thriller film! There are assassins, there are mercenaries and there are the bad guys but where is the action? Where? I don't remember the last time a movie made me so bitter after seeing it but “Old Guy” certainly did.

## Recommendation

This was a terrible attempt at an action comedy film and I do not recommend it to anyone looking to watch an entertaining movie. The film lacks the originality and excitement that would make it stand out in the action-comedy genre, making it feel like a missed opportunity even with a good enough plot. I would give it a 3/10 rating.

Story Overview

The main character of this anime is going to be Tatsumi, who is a young swordsman, who belonged to a very poor place. Ayer mi hermana me dijo que tenía muchas ganas de ver la nueva película de Marvel Studios: Thunderbolts que tiene poco de haberse estrenado y aunque la quería ver en el cine no se resistió y la vimos juntas en casa. Me gustó tanto la trama sobre todo porque abarcan muy bien los traumas que tienen varios personajes entre ellos: Yelena, Valentina y Bob. Yelena tiene una historia muy traumática que se refleja en su forma de comportarse sobre todo cuando está cerca de su padre Red Guardian, además de venir de Rusia tienen una historia que refleja como pueden utilizar a niños para que comerán actos de los que no están preparados ni física ni mentalmente. Por otro lado está Valentina de la cual tenemos un solo recuerdo que realmente le parece asustar pero que no se llega a profundizar con detenimiento. Y Bob es el personaje que tiene más traumas, entre ellos una infancia abusado física y psicológicamente por su padre para luego crecer como un joven lleno de inseguridades y múltiples problemas de personalidad.

I liked so much the plot especially because they cover very well the traumas that several characters have among them: Yelena, Valentina and Bob. Yelena has a very traumatic history that is reflected in the way she behaves especially when she is close to her father Red Guardian, besides coming from Russia they have a story that reflects how they can use children to eat acts that are not prepared neither physically nor mentally. On the other hand there is Valentina of which we have a single memory that really seems to scare him but that does not get to deepen in depth. And Bob is the character who has more traumas, including a childhood physically and psychologically abused by his father and then grow up as a young man full of insecurities and multiple personality problems.

Fácilmente Bob decidió que realizarán los experimentos con él ya que no encontraba otro sentido a su existencia así que sin saber el daño que podría causarle a otros y a su mismo terminó por convertirse en un ser superior. Este personaje me gustó pero sabía que tendría que tener algún problema psicológico porque es realmente fuerte lo que cuenta en la película, cómo se siente de vacío y de inservible, como siente que no es más que solo su dolor y sus sentimientos más deplorables.

Cada uno de los actores, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) y John Walker (Wyatt Russell) lo hicieron de una forma increíble que se siente la química y la importancia de tener una buena dirección para poder dar lo mejor de su mismos en la historia. Maybe for some Thunderbolts is not what they expected in this new beginning, but being a person who does not see this kind of movies I found it amazing from beginning to end, I enjoyed it a lot especially because they show the human side of each of the super heroes, also delve into mental health issues and even on the internet there is a description of Bob that explains what are his diagnoses and the reason why of his actions and behaviors. Each of the actors, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell) did amazingly well and you can feel the chemistry and the importance of having good direction to be able to give their best in the story. I liked it so much that I'm ready to see the next movie and know what else is going to happen with this new generation of super heroes and of the new stories and adventures they will have together, I hope you can see it because it looks amazing. 🔥

Synopsis

This is a story of a global pandemic that destroys civilization. A fungi called Ophiocordyceps evolves and takes over the body of its host, literally causing a Zombie Apocalypse. Its origin is unknown. But some say it was introduced into the food supply chain. Joel is a hardened survivor who takes charge of a 14 year-old girl Ellie who may be humanity's last hope. Apparently, Ellie is immune to the fungi.

Joel
	From the synopsis, we could tell Joel is the protagonist. Game of Thrones lovers would immediately recognize him as Oberyn. Here, he'salso a hard guy but with less humor. Joel lost his daughter Sarah to the pandemic, not from infection, but by a soldier’s bullet, following protocol to contain potential infections. He carries the guilt throughout the series.

	Ellie
Also a GOT alum. The character with the most humor in this series and also a tomboy. Ellie is the only known person who doesn't get infected from a bite. She travels everywhere with Joel, and over time, they grow deeply attached.

Clicker
	Terrifying, zombie-like creatures. They're humans infected by the Cordyceps fungus. It takes over their brains and strips away their humanity. They navigate using sound, making distinct clicking noises, hence the name.

A Scene I Found Really Sad

Lets talk about Henry and Sam. Henry is a collaborator in the series, he betrayed Isaac and was haunted by the weight of his actions. He had a little brother called Sam. Sam can't speak. The had an encounter with Joel and Ellie and the strangers had to collaborate to escape. During their escape, that was when they got attacked by the infected and Sam got bitten. Ellie tried to heal him by dropping a little amount of blood on his wound but it obviously didn't work. By morning, Sam had gotten totally possessed by the fungus and he attacked Ellie. Henry was forced to put him down with a bullet. Henry couldn't bear the guilt of killing his younger brother so he shot himself in the head.

It was one of the most heartbreaking moments in the series.
