I thought I knew what Akira was. I’d seen the clips, that bike slide, the gifs, the fan art. Everyone talks about it like it’s this holy thing from the past, and honestly, I figured it’d feel old or boring or like one of those movies you say you respect but don’t really care about. Then I watched it last night, full focus, just me and the screen. And yeah, now I get why people won’t shut up about it. That movie moves different. It feels huge, not because it’s loud or dramatic all the time, but because there’s something weirdly alive in every scene. Like it breathes.

No one warned me that the visuals would mess with my head like that. I found out after watching that they actually created about fifty new color tones for this film. Like, those colors didn’t even exist commercially in animation before Akira. They built them from scratch just to get that specific vibe. And you feel it. The city looks like it’s sweating neon. Everything is layered and glowing but also kind of rotting from the inside. It’s hard to describe. It doesn’t look futuristic in the way movies try to now, all sleek and minimalist. It’s chaotic. And what’s wild is that back in 1988, this was their version of the future. Now we’re in 2025, and we’ve ended up in this clean, quiet, beige reality. Even fast food logos are toned down. They thought we’d be living in chaos, and instead we’re stuck in safe mode.

There’s something about the way the story unfolds that makes it feel personal, even though it’s obviously huge in scale. Tetsuo’s whole spiral didn’t feel like some big villain arc. It felt like watching someone break, and I mean that in a human way. He’s not evil, he’s scared. He’s desperate. The power stuff is just an amplifier for all the shit that’s already eating him up inside. Kaneda, Kei, the resistance—it’s all part of the noise surrounding that emotional center. The city’s crumbling, people are panicking, and there’s this big philosophical thing about control and identity and what happens when you don’t know who you are anymore. It doesn’t spoon-feed you answers. It just kind of throws you in and lets you feel it.

Also, I didn’t know they recorded all the voice acting and sound before animating anything. That blew my mind. Usually it’s the other way around, but here they did what’s called prescoring. And it works. Everything feels timed to emotion, not just movement. The screams, the silence, even that weird chanting soundtrack—it hits in your chest. You can tell they weren’t just making a movie. They were building something way more intense. It’s like watching a breakdown and a prophecy at the same time. There’s nothing sterile about it. It’s all guts.

Watching Akira in 2025 is kind of surreal. It’s this loud, messy, beautiful warning about a future that never showed up, but somehow still makes sense. It’s not about flying bikes or psychic kids, even though that’s what people always remember. It’s about what happens when systems fail and people get lost inside the mess. It’s about the kind of power that burns you from the inside out. And honestly, I walked away feeling kind of haunted. Not because the movie was scary, but because it looked at the future with such wild intensity, and we ended up here instead. Quiet. Flat. Predictable. Akira’s still out there screaming. We’re just not listening as loud anymore.

  2. Akira 「アキラ」 (1998)@onlyjob503d

Symphony of destruction. Overrated and shallow show where some interesting characters and situations were hinted in the beginning, but only one story is weakly developed: awakening of absurd uncontrollable/unstoppable psycho-kinetic powers that destroy everything around. Visual art potential is wasted on destruction, decay and distortion. The most notable thing about the show is some still images from the beginning, showing street with junk and graffiti, somehow conveying mood of the place.

The story is weak, with very little development. Most efforts are spent on animation of explosions, etc. which I personally find not all that interesting.

  3. Review AKIRA (1988) 💊 The Masterpiece That Redefined Animation and Stands the Test of Time@alienpunklord569d

Welcome to another art post here in the community.

Ah, Akira. If you haven’t watched it yet, stop everything you’re doing and run to see this masterpiece, which has become a classic for me. Released in 1988, this anime is a true milestone in the history of Japanese and global animation.
The story takes place in Neo-Tokyo, a futuristic city built after the destruction of the original Tokyo. We follow the story of Kaneda, leader of a biker gang, and his friend Tetsuo, one of my favorites in the plot, who, after an accident, develops devastating psychic powers. The relationship between the two is complex, full of rivalries and loyalties, reflecting the depth of the characters.

    Quality and More Quality

What’s most impressive about Akira is the animation quality for its time. Even after more than three decades, the details are jaw-dropping for fans of this style. The action scenes are fluid, and the depiction of the city is so rich you can almost smell the streets of Neo-Tokyo. The attention to detail is such that every frame could be a work of art on its own. Not to mention the cyberpunk aesthetics for this moment.

The soundtrack is another highlight. With a mix of tribal sounds and synthesizers, it creates a unique atmosphere that perfectly complements the dystopian vibe of the narrative. It’s one of those soundtracks you hear and are immediately transported to the film's universe.

    image.png

Akira is not just a visual spectacle.
It is also a profound work that explores themes such as the abuse of power, government corruption, and the struggle for identity in a chaotic world. Tetsuo’s transformation from an insecure young man to an almost divine entity raises questions about how far absolute power can corrupt and destroy.

    image.png

I wonder, if the game CYBERPUNK 2077 had more inspiration and was based on the context of Akira, would it perhaps have a better rating? I mean, this game is practically a joke in some gaming communities.

    Confusing Narrative?

Some critics point out that the narrative can be confusing, especially for those unfamiliar with the original manga. There are moments when the story seems to get lost amid so many ideas and symbols. However, this complexity is also part of Akira's charm. It’s a film that demands attention and reflection, rewarding the viewer with a rich and multifaceted experience. In terms of influence, Akira left an undeniable legacy, as its aesthetics and themes have influenced a generation of filmmakers and animators. Series like Stranger Things carry echoes of Katsuhiro Otomo's work. Additionally, Akira helped popularize anime in the West, paving the way for countless other Japanese productions.

    image.png

Watching this for the first time was more than just passing the time; it was experiencing a piece of animation history and reflecting on some of the themes it presents, like the bomb explosion. It’s a work that challenges, provokes, and above all, enchants. If you’re a fan of animation, science fiction, or simply appreciate a good story, I highly recommend it it’s indispensable.

    image.png

And if, after watching, you’re left with that classic feeling of:
What did I just watch?, don’t worry Akira is like that, a whirlwind of images and ideas that continue to resonate in your mind long after the credits roll. It’s the kind of film that deserves to be revisited, discussed, and most importantly, appreciated in all its complexity and beauty.

    image.png

In summary, it’s a masterpiece that transcends time in an impressive way for me. An animation that, even decades after its release, continues to inspire and influence. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching it, don’t waste any more time. And if you’ve already seen it, maybe it’s time to revisit it and rediscover the details and nuances that make it so special. After all, works like this aren’t just meant to be watched they’re meant to be lived and eternalized in some way.

  4. (ESP-ENG) Akira - Movie Review!@javyeslava.photo623d

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    Source!

In anime there are many classics but if we had to put a movie at the top, it would undoubtedly have to be Akira, adaptation of one of the most powerful manga ever made, almost 2 thousand pages and which was in charge of Katsuhiro Ôtomo. This film was released in 1988, 36 years ago and when you see it today you realize how advanced and innovative it was for the time, both for its animation that is a spectacle and for the depth of its plot and the themes it touches. We are facing a cyberpunk that has been a reference to this day and for many this film is one of the most influential of all time; and yes, I had not seen it.

We are located in 2019, in Neo-Tokyo, a city which is in ruins since it has been hit by the onslaught of a third world war. This made the population is on the verge of collapse in every way: political, economic, social and even religious as we will see some sects that before an imminent doom are having a lot of boom. There is a lot of violence and terrorism in the streets so the government, being a little sterile to control the situation, has decided to reactivate a project that seeks to find in people the “absolute energy”, which is nothing more than the exploitation of some alleged psychic abilities that everyone has using children as guinea pigs.

But the city has other problems and they are the motorcycle gangs. Here we meet Kaneda and Tetsuo, two great friends who belong to one of these gangs and because they are in constant conflict with other gang members, one of them suffers an accident. Tetsuo is badly injured and is taken to a military facility where they realize that he possesses this “absolute energy”. Little by little he develops these powers and starts to become a real threat so everyone, including Kaneda, will try to stop him. The plot is very enigmatic because it is difficult to present what is really happening, little by little we are given clues that makes one is always in expectation.

I feel that it is a super complex and deep story because it touches on issues such as power, survival, conspiracies, secrets and coups, social problems, the degradation of a society and of course the individual himself, Tetsuo is the perfect example, he was always the weakest, the one who was always helped, the one who had no say so when he saw himself with these inhuman capabilities, evidently something in him wakes up or dies, as you want to see it, and he frees himself from himself. It is a story which is a journey and even a reflection of how cities are today, that's why I think its background is very valid. Honestly, it's impossible to get bored, there's always something going on.

The best thing about this film is its animation. It's really crazy that this is more than 35 years old. The shots of the city are amazing, I repeated the scenes to see them twice because of how well done they are. The bright and saturated colors typical of the genre, the use of 3D with the technology of those times is impressive, the character design is rough but with a very high level of detail, the fluidity of the scenes and well of course, the violence. It is a violent film, there is blood and gore and that in animation is gold. There is a reason why this film has such a cult following, there are films made in this era that are not even a quarter of this great classic.

As for the characters, I want to focus only on Tetsuo. He is a young man who only wants and aspires to be respected and taken into account by others, being the youngest of the group that does not happen, which caused him certain attitude problems. Deep down, and despite what is seen in the film, I do believe that he cares about his own, the issue is that this “absolute energy” eats away at him and consumes him to the point of blinding him and making him lose his mind. This is a sign that power clouds the mind. Briefly, Kaneda acts as the older brother, despite his differences with Tetsuo, he always tries to save him, which is very commendable.

  5. Sci-Fi Fantasy ~ Akira ~ Review@psyberkid661d

    Welcome To My Blog

Hello friends, First I want to apologize to the community that I couldn't continue my quest post from last week. Because of the problem I was having to connect to the internet. But I will try my best to complete it.

Today I want to tell you about a masterpiece movie named Akira which is very old but the animation and the quality of the movie make you feel like it's just come out. I think you will have very great time seeing this movie.

    Story

Akira's story begins in 2019 in the dystopian city of New Tokyo which has been rebuilt after being destroyed by a nuclear explosion. The main character Kaneda and his friend Tetsu are members of a biker gang. One day after an accident Tetsu becomes involved in a secret government project, where he awakens with supernatural powers.

The government's control of this power was previously tested on three other children who were now more powerful than normal humans but managed to keep everything under control but Tetsu's power was too much it went out of control. These three boys also try hard to control Tetsu's powers. But Tetsu had become so arrogant of his powers that he didn't realize he was about to wreak havoc.

Meanwhile, the military and government try to stop Tetsu as they know that if this power gets out of control it could bring terrible danger to the city and mankind. Tetsu gradually increases his powers and becomes confident that he can destroy everyone.

Tetsu's dangerous transformation causes his friend Kaneda to worry. Kaneda tries to save him but Tetsu spirals out of control. At this time a mysterious force known as Akira is known. Akira was once such a supernatural child, whose powers caused the previous destruction of Tokyo. And Tetsu's power is becoming as terrifying as he is.

Tetsu's strength and humanity are lost, and his conflict with Kaneda reaches its climax. In the end Tetsu's powers rise to destroy New Tokyo but Akira's reawakened powers stop Tetsu and save the city from destruction once again. But after this devastating event, a new reality is created, where the three boys, Tetsu go into a new existence of sorts.

    My Review

Talking about anime, it shows the abuse of power and the harmful side of technology to society and the destructive side of mankind. And here are more aspects of free will, science and ethics.

Akira's animation seems timeless. The image of the hi-tech city and the advanced technologies it portrays are so advanced than the times that it seems unreal to imagine. When I first saw it, I wondered if it was really a period animation.

  6. Let's Take A Look At Akira@youloseagain686d

    111737l.jpg

My second entry for the monthly contest is Akira, a beauty of an Anime that I luckily had the chance to grow up with. The story is set in Tokyo, Japan in the year 2019. Back in 1988 an explosion in Tokyo caused by the psychic powers of a young boy does a lot of damage to the city, which leads to World War 3.

2019 and Tokyo is partly restored and is now known as Neo Tokyo. The city is ravaged by gang violence and acts of terrorism that is targeting the current Tokyo government.

Year of release: 1988 Aired: July 16 1988 Studio: Tokyo Movie Shinsha Genre: Action, Horror, Supernatural, sci-fi. Age rating: R+ My rating: 13/10

    111738l.jpg

Shoutarou Kaneda leads a motorcycle gang known as The Capsules, a group riding souped up custom motorbikes that have the long running battle with their rival motorbike gang known as The Clowns.

While fighting The Clowns, Tetsuo Shima who is a member of The Capsules, gets into an accident and ends up meeting an esper who has managed to escape from the government confinement. This lead to Tetsuo being quarantined himself, with the aim that he doesn't unleash his new powers on the rest of Neo Tokyo.

Some of the scenes are quite graphic and aggressive, which really suits the style of the 80's style anime's. I bloody love it!

This is one Anime that I really recommend as it is bloody amazing. It is definitely not suitable for young kids, which I was young when I watched it the first time. I was creeped the F out and I'm sure it's affected me later in life!

    96446l.jpg

Akira is one of those films that has been widely praised throughout the years and won a ton of awards. It is a scary film in places as the amount of violence in a small city is quite scary to even think about. The chances of this happening is quite high, especially in the current state the UK finds themselves in.

  8. Akira Toriyama, a genius of manga and anime, who made my childhood immensely happy: A heartfelt tribute@chris-chris92847d

    Source

I'm from Venezuela, I'm a 31 year old woman; mother, girlfriend, daughter, but above all things; a lover of Dragon Ball, and the genius of the master Akira Toriyama. I didn't grow up with too many girls who loved this anime, nor appreciated it as I did. On the contrary, my first memories with other children, was precisely thanks to the influence of the adventures of Goku and company.... I collected everything there was about this anime: stickers, posters, album figurines, you name it.... Even, for this post, I was obsessed in looking for a picture that was taken on my 8th birthday but I couldn't find it anywhere...

Truth is that without the indisputable and indelible influence of Toriyama, my childhood, my adolescence would not have had the happiness and fullness that it had... You can't imagine the horrible sadness I felt that fateful March 8, when I woke up and went on Instagram.... "The creator of the mythical Dragon Ball Z series has passed away". It hit me hard. I didn't grow up with cable television. My childhood was during the 90's, a time where internet and cell phones were luxuries of the wealthy. Therefore, every afternoon, after coming home from school, I would sit on the couch to watch a new episode of my favorite anime.

    Source

Initially, I had a remarkable resistance. For reasons I still don't know, the public television channel where they broadcast all these series that I have already mentioned, had decided to eliminate "The Knights of the Zodiac" in order to present Dragon Ball. I still remember the first episode I watched. I was so annoyed and indignant.... Haha, but I soon succumbed to the awesomeness of the story and plot. Something that doesn't quite develop, is that when you're a little 8 year old girl and you see a boy having adventures with other characters similar to you, you immediately identify....

Plus, narratively, Dragon Ball is a beautiful series. Values, friendship, bravery, fight, strength, compassion, nobility, art; some evil but above all hope. A catalog shonen. From my point of view, Japan as a country owes too much to Toriyama's influence to the whole world. And I believe that the best representation of this I say, we can see it in the advertising spot of the video game "Dragon Ball Z Kakarot". Where we see little kids imitating the fighting techniques of Goku and the Z Warriors. From teleportation to the mythical Kame-Kame-Ha. It is simply impossible not to feel, genuinely, identified with that...

    Source

Even those who are a little bit older than me, also owe a lot to Akira Toriyama. Before the whole Dragon Ball universe, he had "debuted" with a manga and then an anime called "Dr. Slump". Although it was less successful, it did not mean that it did not have good reviews and good sales and diffusion in more than 50 countries. Clearly, nothing compares to the insurmountable "monster" we all know... This guy was so talented, important for hundreds of billions of people, that just after his death, even soccer teams, companies like Nike or Motorola, dedicated words of admiration and respect.

An entire world was connected and marked by the remarkable (and unsurpassable) spell of a story that moved, amused, entertained and amazed us during the most beautiful period of any human being's life: our childhood. In my personal case, I feel that the least I had to do to release some tension, and begin my process of acceptance towards a news that was as hard as it was painful, was to dedicate a few heartfelt words to my favorite illustrator. I don't want to read myself as dramatic or emotional, but I feel that I am not the only one going through something similar.

Even more, the mere fact that this community exists is a living example of the importance of what happens in our childhood. What we love as children, we will never stop loving for the rest of our lives. Dragon Ball, in any of its editions, movies OVA's, manga, etc, is so important and transcendental, that even watching the last episode of Dragon Ball GT, I cried inconsolably.... It marks your life in every way, and that powerful forcefulness can only be explained by the beauty of Toriyama sensei's art. May he (dear master) have been aware during his lifetime of the importance of his ingenuity for all of us who were once children and loved his creations. Simply, thank you so much for doing what you did, and for your wonderful legacy.

I used only two pencils, a 2H to make the sketch and a 2B for shading and contours. I made some lines as guides and some circles, which I shaped as the drawing progressed.

I also included a small image of Goku when he was a child on the right side of the drawing. While I was giving shape to the lines that had already served as guides, I was erasing them little by little.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I used a 2B pencil to draw outlines and for shading, or the first layers of shading. So with this pencil I highlight the entire silhouette of the drawing, both inside the face and the rest.

I began to shade the slightly lighter areas with the 2B pencil. But for the hair and other darker areas I used a 4B pencil, charcoal is more intense so it is the best for shading. For shading I used a stroke of fast oblique lines, which is best used for sketching.

Finally I draw Goku, who is crying, this happened in a chapter where he met his grandfather who had died again. So it was finished.

  10. Akira Toriyama@steemychicken1852d

Akira Toriyama was indeed a pioneering and daring artist whose impact on the world of manga is immeasurable. Born on April 5, 1955, in Nagoya, Japan, Toriyama's artistic journey began with a job as a designer at a small advertising agency. However, his true passion lay in manga, and he eventually transitioned into a career as a manga artist.

source Toriyama's breakout came in the 1980s with his creation of "Dr. Slump," a whimsical and comedic series that showcased his distinctive art style and quirky sense of humor. However, it was his next work, "Dragon Ball," that would catapult him to international fame and cement his status as one of the most influential creators in the industry.

"Dragon Ball" debuted in 1984 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, blending elements of Chinese mythology, martial arts, and later, science fiction. Toriyama's dynamic artwork and compelling storytelling captivated audiences around the world, and the series spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations across various media.

Toriyama's contributions to the shounen manga genre cannot be overstated. His bold storytelling and innovative approach to character design set a new standard for the medium, inspiring countless artists and creators to follow in his footsteps.

Beyond his work on "Dragon Ball," Toriyama continued to push the boundaries of manga and anime with projects like "Chrono Trigger," a critically acclaimed video game that he helped design. Throughout his career, he remained dedicated to his craft, consistently delivering high-quality work that resonated with audiences of all ages.

For many of us, his work defined our very childhood, as we fell in love with Dragon Ball and somehow fell in love with the world of fiction in general, regardless of artistic medium. However, even if all this were not true, I personally could not help but adore him, because Dragon ball was the Anime that introduced me into the Anime world and of course Toriyama influenced Eiichiro Oda more than any other creator in the creation of my favorite fantasy world, that of One Piece.

It is one of those moments when you owe an artist a huge thank you for giving you the opportunity to travel into the magical world he created. And this, in this particular case, applies to millions of people around the world...

  11. Akira Toriyama is dead. My honest statement. / Akira Toriyama nie żyje. Moja szczera wypowiedź.@herosik853d

    tori.jpg

An outpouring of emotions straight from the heart. I was driving happily to work in the morning. Spring has begun, the six-month gray and sad period is ending. You start smiling more, and then two friends say that Akira Toriyama has died. Even though I am no longer so attached to the brand (details in the second paragraph), I felt a strong pang in my heart. I immediately thought of the best moments we spent together - me and anime DB. Although at one time there were titles that excited me more, in the end the most important turned out to be Dragon Ball. He motivates me (at some level) to exercise and work on myself every day. He gives me a lot of positive emotions. It was thanks to him that I started writing (first as an editor on various sites about this anime, then by coming up with my own stories continuing the story of DBGT or DBZ while playing with Lego bricks). Maybe something positive will happen in my life thanks to DB. Its title made a lot of kids (and some parents) lock themselves in a room with a TV and watch DBZ together. Today, some people don't believe it, but when the anime was first broadcast on TV, the streets all over Poland were empty at 3 p.m. (or 4 p.m.). Anyway, all over the world too. When the final of the Tournament of Power was going on in the anime, people were reminiscing about their past with the old anime. Besides, has any anime been watched MASSIVELY all over the world on big screens? Brazil, France, Mexico, Poland and more. In fact, it was due to the fact that the FIFA World Cup coincided with the final fight with Jiren, but there have already been several such occasions. Dragon Ball is simply a pop culture icon. Just like Rocky, Alien, Rambo, Marvel, Batman, Superman, Harry Potter. Toriyama, Goku and Vegeta have motivated millions of people over the years. Some of them have achieved their own success and live at a high level.

This post may seem insensitive. Well, I won't pretend. A few years ago I put my finger on DB and tore this series out of my heart. She is still important to me, but I have already distanced myself from her in every field. I try to do this with every brand that is close to my heart. It's just easier in life this way. Not only in these types of situations, but in general. These things are very nice, my life without them would be grayer, my imagination would have fewer positive memories, etc. but these are just things. Products of someone else's imagination, things that are mainly intended to fill our time and bring profits to the authors. Will the brand continue to exist? Probably yes (games etc. are too much money for Japanese corporations), but I can't imagine continuing the manga. In the sense that something would appear after an arc that has recently started or is about to start (because some people speculate that we will also get a mini-arc of a fanservice nature). Recently, a new arc in the manga began, which we got after a year of completely unnecessary fillers. Previously, there was an arc that had a lot of good ideas and scenes, but due to a few idiotically illogical decisions, the hype dropped significantly. Moro was also broken at several points. The duo of Toriyama & Toyotaro could have done a great job with Vegeta, who had the Old Goat on a plate... But no, because the final blow must be dealt by Goku. The eternal flaw of DB. If it weren't for Black Freezer and the spectacular fatalities, I would have felt a strong distaste for this arc. Not to mention other problems and huge inconsistency in the form of Divine Ki, new forms, and the treatment of Ultra Instinct. In DBZ everything held together and I can justify most things based on the DB lore, but here? Error upon error, error after error. You can complain that I'm whining and that it spoils the sad mood, but that's how it was. The manga will probably end with the defeat of Freezer. It's hard to squeeze anything new into the short period between defeating Buu and the true finale of DBZ. They are unlikely to want to continue due to the author's death. Maybe there is a chance that we will get more series like DB Daima - spinoffs telling side stories or ones that were started in the anime but never got developed?

Toriyama was expendable in this process [of creating the manga], and I've been saying that for years. It would be much better to pass this on to someone who loves DB and grew up with it since childhood. And above all, he has a vision for it, he wants to expand the universe. Sure, Mr. Akira was and is a great creator in some respects, but there is a saying that I first heard as a teenager. Sometimes a title was successful by accident or achieved exceptionally high popularity. Then such an author is perceived as a genius, which is more or less true depending on the situation and the given title. And although I greatly appreciate Toriyama's skills in creating simple plots, narratives, starting certain threads, and, above all, extremely good drawings (and those depicting combat and the human body in such a way are particularly difficult and demanding for the author), in all he doesn't demand anything else. To put it mildly. And you could get much more out of DBS, especially since they created such opportunities for themselves together with Toyotaro. They had cool ideas that were later turned into the standard plot that everyone knows. Until I vomit. And DB still has the potential to develop them further. Just don't repeat the patterns on a 1:1 scale compared to the original, only making it worse + spoiling your own comic book even more than it was with DBZ. Well, back to the manga, despite some cool ideas, this one as a whole is extremely underdeveloped. Different people have given different reasons for this, but somehow Toriyama's ideas passed through a better sieve in the movies.

Don't get me wrong. It's not that I'm complaining, but there will probably be a lot of voices whitewashing Toriyama now. He was a great creator, his skills stand out even today, but I don't like distorting reality. While DBZ as a whole is better than DBS, this old anime is very, very overrated. The best that this title could give us has already happened. Now it's just about clipping coupons and making money on the same thing for the 2137th time. There's nothing wrong with that, especially when it's done by someone who's worked hard for it (and comic book artists in Japan have it really hard). Well, let's not call a goose a duck and a duck a swan. Nevertheless, Toriyama has entered the history of world culture in golden letters and is one of the most liked and recognizable "ambassadors" of Japan. He has achieved the success that most of us dream of and no one can take that away from him. Both in the world of comics and games - because Chrono Trigger, in which he gave a part of himself, was a huge hit. I hope he doesn't have to wait in line for King Enma for too long. And WSJ authors should learn to draw like Toriyama. Both those from better manga (OP, Naruto) and worse (Bleach). With Toriyama, everything is beautifully visible, and with you, sometimes you can't really see what's going on. And Super Saiyan. Something very simple and obvious, but how much it influenced the whole world and all people.

Goodbye, Master. Thank you for everything. Even the things I complained about. It partly improved my ability to articulate my thoughts, but most of all I have a lot of wonderful memories.

    tori.jpg

Wyrzut emocji prosto z serca. Jechałem sobie rano szczęśliwy do pracy. To on mnie motywuje (na pewnym poziomie) do ćwiczeń i codziennej pracy nad sobą. To on daje mi dużo pozytywnych emocji.

Aż do zwymiotowania. A DB nadal ma potencjał, by je dalej rozwijać.

No i Super Saiyanin.

    [Fuente](https://tenor.com/es/view/tetsuo-akira-gif-26257186)

    [Fuente](https://tenor.com/es/view/destruction-akira-explosion-gif-12094323)

    English Version.

At the end of the 80's in Venezuela I heard in the University about a revolutionary Anime called Akira, which was based on a Japanese Manga of the same name. I already had information on the subject because since that time I collected Spanish magazines specialized in cinema and had access to other specialized magazines of imported character in English language, in them there was always space to comment on issues related to manga, anime and the world of animation.

    Source

Needless to say, I had already watched since the 70's on TV anime such as Astroboy, Phantasmagoric, Kimba, the white lion, Mazinger Z, Heidi, The Knights of the Zodiac, Captain Future, Galactic, Speed Racer, Ulysses 31, Candy Candy, Angel the flower girl, Sailor Moon, Remi, Marco and many others. In my childhood these programs were not called anime, all the cartoons were known as comics.

The stories were very varied and I was always struck by the fact that the type of drawing was very different from American cartoons or cartoons from countries other than Japan.

Going back to Akira, I have to say that it wasn't until 1990 that I was able to get a VHS copy of the much talked about Anime in a very popular market in downtown Caracas called La Hoyada.

I came across a dystopia (it is a future human society where the social and political fears of an era are embodied), in the year 2019 many years after the Third World War. There is a city called Neo-Tokyo very chaotic in which there is a lot of noise and lights everywhere. The youth is very troubled, so the police station is always full. Additionally, the government has a military project that uses humans with the gift of telekinesis to use them as weapons.

The young people do not receive any kind of education and spend their time in an underworld where we find motorcycle races, drugs and fights. Demonstrations are observed and an army fiercely attacks them. The corrupt and controlling state calls them terrorists. Behind all this, the authoritarian government seeks to create a lethal weapon to control the world.

    Source

Tetsuo, is a character who was always in the shadow of his best friend Kaneda, and orphaned and abandoned receiving the affection of his friend Kaneda, which shows us strong, brave and very brazen, shadowing his friend Tetsuo.

Kaneda is the leader of a criminal motorcycle gang, involved with an anti-government group just to locate Tetsuo when he is kidnapped by the government.

Tetsuo, has an accident on his motorcycle because of a strange old boy (a secret experiment by the government). When he is exposed to his powers, he acquires an energy that seems to be of interest to the government experiment. Realizing his newfound abilities, he believes he is invincible.

    Source

In the anime we will observe the existence of a Neo-Tokyo council; a terrorist resistance movement against the government that aims to save the nation from corrupt and ineffective bureaucrats in power. However, it is discovered that this group is as nefarious as the government it wishes to overthrow.

The government experiments on Tetsuo by causing him suffering, physical pain and hallucinations, but there comes a time when it does not care that his power could destroy the city, kill its inhabitants or self-destruct itself. Tetsuo suffers from rage, from uncontrollable fury.

    [Source](https://tenor.com/es/view/tetsuo-akira-gif-26257186)

Being obsessed with Kaneda, the first thing he claims upon learning he is so powerful is his friend's motorcycle, which he always wanted to ride.

All this takes place under the long shadow of the mysterious Akira, a figure everyone praises, fears and remembers for his destruction of the city thirty years earlier. This character is Experiment #28. He manages to develop dangerous abilities, especially psychic ones, while serving as an experiment for the government in the 1980s. The government lost control over Akira and he annihilated Tokyo in 1988. Because of the danger he posed, he was confined and tested again and his body was placed in a cryogenic capsule located underneath the Neo Tokyo Olympic Stadium.

    [Source](https://tenor.com/es/view/destruction-akira-explosion-gif-12094323)

Akira was a government creation that goes out of control, with Tetsuo, this one again seeks the exact same thing, but they attempt his absolute control, which they fail to achieve.

There is a very interesting sub-plot involving the individuals called Experiments #25, #26, and #27, (also known as Espers), three children, exposed to the same experiments as Akira, who have powers of telekinesis, teleportation and precognition. These are of utmost importance to the plot since with their powers they manage to awaken Akira already as a supernatural entity that helps contain Tetsuo's power, which is growing exponentially.

    Source

The anime is a story of self-destruction of human beings by the lust for power, and control, tells of a humanity that repeats its mistakes in order to achieve absolute control.

Akira, besides presenting a strong message, meant for Japanese animation an ambitious creation with a big budget and a level of animation and production far ahead of its time. It is an anime that gave visibility to this type of cinema worldwide and paved the way for big hits like Dragon Ball, Naruto and Pokemon.

    Source

Additionally, it showed a world accustomed to Disney-style productions another way of making animation. This anime written and directed in 1988 by Katsuhiro Otomo is considered by many as the best Japanese animated film, next to those directed by Hayao Miyazaki, (founder of Ghibli Studios and director of anime films such as Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke among many other works of art of Japanese anime.

Akira features clear references to Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a Cause, David Cronenberg's Videodrome, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. It has influenced films such as Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special, Josh Trank's Chronicle and Chritopher Nolan's Inception, to the point that two of those three films feature a child with destructive telekinetic powers. On television, Stranger Things, puts its focus on Eleven, a girl trained to use her telekinetic powers as a weapon.

As for the music, just look at the comparison between the anime and Kanye West's video of his song Stronger Link Aqui to see the references to Akira that are made in it.

When they talk to me about cyberpunk, one of the first works that comes to mind is Akira, an icon of this genre, with Kaneda's jacket and motorcycle. This Japanese animation was built during a period of industrial boom in Japan, a country that rebounded admirably from two nuclear bombs and impending defeat.

The fascination for technology in Japan took on an importance in its industrial revolution, Japan is an island with few resources but they discovered that human capital is much more important to evolve as a country than anything else. The collective memory about the catastrophe that happened in Nagasaki and Hiroshima is present in many works of animation, it is a reflection of what was lived but also an allegory makes a possible hopeless future.

    Source

Akira shows us a post apocalyptic world, where youth gangs, drugs, religious extremists and political strategies are the bread and butter. Neo Tokyo is how we are presented with this city, ruined by a nuclear catastrophe and 2030 is the year in which the work is developed. Cyberpunk masterpiece that marked a before and after in Japanese animation.

Explaining and analyzing this work can be a bit complex because it is one of those stories that has it all, action, politics, religion and chaos. Yes, it is a chaotic movie from start to finish, just like Mad Max but with an even deeper tone.

    Source

Kaneda is a boy who belongs to one of the many biker gangs that are in Neo Tokyo and after a chase with the police he is immersed in a problem that he could never believe. He meets an apparently sick child but in the course of the film we will discover that the government is doing experiments with children in the Elfen Lied style.

Everything soon becomes a story with quick events and sometimes it is difficult to assimilate everything that happens, it is too much information that it shows us in a short time so I recommend taking a second look at the film to assimilate details.

Akira managed to capture the attention not only of the Japanese but also of the West because it was a revolutionary work, remember that the birth of the cyberpunk movement was born in the 80's with the work Neuromancer by William Gibson that soon influenced animation authors and directors of cinema. The cyberpunk presented in this work is authentic, rebellious, catastrophic and decadent.

Neo Tokyo takes a decent life from its young men, but there is a slight hope for them. Akira is just a name, a symbol like the big brother in 1984. Akira is the representation of religious fanatics who take advantage of the unwary with an exacerbated faith product of the deficiencies suffered by the population. Experiments with children can be one of the most traumatic experiences that the film offers us, but it is also part of the uncontrollable action.

    Source

One of Kaneda's motor companions acquires enormous power, like these children, but apparently due to his age and personality, he does not know how to control it or at least use it in a correct way. From that moment the destruction is unleashed in Neo Tokyo, the religious fanatics argue that he is Akira and a wave of destruction and unprecedented fanaticism begins.

The police, the militia and the government begin to work together to destroy this boy who contains incredible power and destroys everything in his path, this due to the frustration that he always lived before.

Akira is undoubtedly a benchmark in science fiction, especially cyberpunk. Thanks to this anime, a wave of excellent animations came out, such as Ghost in the Shell. The importance of Akira in this genre is unquestionable because it contains a solid argument based on our history as humanity, especially Japanese history and speculated on a possible catastrophe that many thought happened in the cold war.

Most works of art are marked by a social context lived at a certain time, the zeitgeist. Akira takes over all of this context by creating a rather negative world with scientific speculation, leaving us with little hope for a promising future. This is cyberpunk, human decadence in favor of technology, decrease in values and collective involution.

    Three Tapes

These are the three copies of Akira I currently own.

    1. Akira (1987, Pioneer) Sealed

    PXL_20210522_195910722.jpg

    PXL_20210522_195918150.jpg

I've had this sealed copy of Akira for about 10 years now/ It's getting dusty at this point. I pretty much just own it because I like it. I have strong feelings about sealed VHS as a collectable store of value. This kind of shit isn't getting less rare at this point and has gained a level or cultural relevance comparable to AAA IPs like Marvel and Pokemon.

    2. Prototype Akira Bootleg

    PXL_20210522_200006044.jpg

    PXL_20210522_195951955.jpg

I've always wanted to make VHS. As a lifelong fan of the format for 20+ years it always just seemed like an inevitable next step so a few years ago I got involved in bootleg VHS scene. One of the most talented artists in the custom VHS scene made this amazing tape. The imaging on it is incredible, the tape is full custom, and the entire case is one large thin plastic sheet. He determined it was way too expensive to mas produce.

It took me months to get it out of their hands. It's one of the few boots I have in my collection I consider a masterpiece.

    **3. Akira (1987, Pioneer) **

    PXL_20210522_200020868.jpg

Doesn't look like much, does it?

This is the first copy of Akira I ever viewed. That kind of personal thing is important to me so, while it might not look special, this tape will never leave my collection.

Bonus: Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set (Manga)

    PXL_20210522_200946567.MP.jpg

Almost as rare as it is heavy.

Thanks for taking a look yall.

    Review in English
    Crítica en Español

Akira is the last anime film I have watched and one of the things I found very curious is that the story is set in 2019. This film was created in 1988 so it is understandable that 2019 seemed like a faraway year for them. I guess it always feels weird when old films are set in current years.

This is a scifi/action film set in Tokyo. The main characters are a group of teens who love motorcycles and are very rebellious. They spend most of their time riding their motorcycles and they even have a rival motorcycle group that they hate. This version of Tokyo is quite dystopic, the society seems very dysfunctional, there are protests all over the place, and acts of violence appear to have been normalized.

This troubling situation might have been caused, at least in part, by a huge explosion that is shown at the beginning of the film without providing the viewer with any context. We don't know at that moment anything about the explosion, I even thought for a moment it was one depiction of one of the atomic bombs Japan received in World War 2. But rest assured, as the story advances we will learn what really caused that massive explosion.

The level of dysfunction in this society mirrors the troubles these psychic powers can bring to the person that posses them. Nothing seems to work well in this place, and it is like the city is always on the brink of a massive collapse. The youth citizens are aimless and it is very obvious there is a lot of wasted potential in their lives.

    Screenshot (2474).png

My own screenshot | Mi propio pantallazo

When I mention that nothing seems to work well, I included the government and the military of course. There is a lot of arrogance and disinterest in these characters when it comes to actually protect the citizens. They are more interested in finding a way to control and probably weaponize these abilities so they can eventually increase their overall control over the country and benefit from it.

Betrayals, disasters, and abuses are all over the place in this film, so it is fair to say there is enough action backed by a properly written plot. I believe this isn't an anime for younger audiences because some scenes can get very harsh and if it was a live-action movie its minimum age would be easily around 17-18.

Despite the fact the action scenes are very good, what I enjoyed the most was its scifi plot. The scifi part of this story is about psychic abilities that can even allow a person to obtain so much power, that even competing against Superman o Goku wouldn't be out of the question. The problem is that these abilities aren't easy to manage and can cause huge destabilization in the person's emotional and psychological wellbeing.

One of the members of the motorcycle gang will, by accident, get involved in experiments that involve psychic abilities and it is this plot point that will allow for very massive events to take place near the end of the film. The origins of this psychic ability are briefly mentioned but not in deep, so this film doesn't provide cool dialogues like the ones that can be found in other anime scifi productions such as Ghost in the Shell or Parasyte. Akira is mainly focused on constantly increasing the magnitude of its action scenes, not on exploring the depths of its scifi topic.

    Screenshot (2475).png

My own screenshot | Mi propio pantallazo

However, the implications of the psychic abilities that exist in Akira are breathtaking. They are pretty much limitless in what can be accomplished with them, and what happens at the very end of this story was quite cool. In fact, I think I liked that ending much more than the rest of the film so I would advise paying a lot of attention near the end, when things are all super crazy, so you can appreciate what really happens to the main character.

I would have loved to learn more about these psychic abilities, I think there is enough to be told to justify some type of spin-off but since this is such an old film I don't think this will ever be produced. I checked Akira's director, Katsuhiro Ôtomo, IMDb page and he did participate in other productions related to Akira but they were all shorts. A new Akira series appears to be in development so there are still hopes that this scifi topic could be explored even further in that series.

However, one thing that surprised me while I was seeing the lists of works from this person, is that he was the writer of the anthology film Memories, including my favorite story in that film called Magnetic Rose. This proves to me he was a very talented writer in the scifi genre but unfortunately, most of his works were shorts that are always almost impossible to find.

If you enjoy the action/scifi genre you should definitely check this film out. The animation was of good quality even though this production is from 1988. It really doesn't look that old. Its action scenes were very good, and the scifi topic is intriguing and has original consequences. This is certainly worth watching anime.

Realmente no parece tan antigua.

  16. Akira - Anime Movie Review@isyeda1900d

Of the thousands of anime movies out there, chances are that most people have only heard of a few of the more highly publicized releases. Movies such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Ninja Scroll, and Akira are among the more widely known. The topic of this review however, is the latter film. I can remember seeing a lot of publicizing for Akira, which wasn't too common for anime at the time. The film looked stylish and cool nonetheless, but it went ignored by me for years and years. It wasn't until a summer or two ago that I was given the opportunity to view this movie. To be honest, it was hard to get into in the beginning (I could relate with pretty much none of the plot material), but after getting a feel for Akira, I haven't stopped singing it's praises since. Why should you have an open mind, and check out this movie even if you aren't a fan of anime?

    image.png

Title: Akira Director: Katsuhiro Otomo Year: 1988

I have to admit that before I watched it I was a bit skeptical that the movie would be hard on the eyes on a distracting level. Thankfully, Akira starts off in a flashy enough sort of way with bright city lights, busy streets, motorbikes, the works. Akira's beauty has withstanded the test of age, and I'm sure that most people who give it a chance won't be turned away from "inferior" animation. A few scenes nearly made my jaw drop, to be honest.

Keep in mind, if you were looking for a movie that spoonfeeds and holds your hand throughout it's duration, than you should probably look elsewhere than Akira. The film features many interweaved character specific stories, and though they don't all come together in a nice little bow-tied package like you'd hope for, they're still fun to follow. There are no pinpointed protagonists in the storyline, which makes for a very diverse group of characters. You'll want to identify with one, but the plot draws itself out so that you won't be able to make your mind up about any of the characters for very long. I left this film with a great sense of pity in my mind, it's really haunting.

    image.png

If you're not a fan of anything the slightest bit disturbing, than once again you should probably turn your back on Akira. This movie features an array of stuff to blow your mind, but most of it is drawn out through Tetsuo going insane. You'll see everything from his guts spilling out from his chest on the sidewalk, to a stuffed teddy bear, toy rabbit, and car marching jollily along in this character's imagination. Keep in mind, I haven't even mentioned the sheer violence featured in this movie yet, and Akira features it's fair share of people being torn up by bullets, and other much more gruesome deaths that I cannot explain without giving away some of the key plot details.

    Story

The movie begins in Tokyo, the year is 1989. What we see is a giant explosion, engulfing Tokyo. There's no explanation for this yet, but it will be told later on in the movie. Now the film shows off Neo-Tokyo, which was built after the gigantic explosion witnessed in the beginning. This new city is overrun with biker gangs, greedy politicians, and anti-government activists that have taken up arms against local authority. From here we have one particular young biker gang who is doing battle with another, their enemies are the notorious group known as the "clowns". When the police show up, the battle breaks up a little, with everyone scattering to get away. Everyone except for a young biker named Tetsuo, who is determined to chase down one of the clowns. From here, Tetsuo crashes his bike into what looks like a young boy. Despite what it may look like, the boy is unharmed and somehow managed to block the bike invisibly.

    image.png

From here, the injured Tetsuo is grabbed by a hospital. Unbeknownst to anyone, he's actually been brought to a medical research facility. His friends get worried when authorities won't tell them in which hospital Tetsuo is being held in. Back in the research facility, he has no idea what's being done to him. After analyzing him, scientists realize that he has incredible powers already tucked inside of him. This only makes them more bent on experimenting with him making him release the power of Akira. All the while the research team worries of the possibility of Tetsuo escaping with these special powers, and thus they are given the command to execute him if such a chance for him to escape into the city arises. They don't quite realize fully the damage that they are about to do to Tokyo.

    image.png

One of the biggest running themes is the relationship between Tetsuo and the leader of the biker gang, Kaneda. The leader is always there to save Tetsuo when he's in trouble, and as such, Tetsuo has become a little bitter about his inability to fend for himself, thus leading to some friction between the two characters. This exact theme of rivalry is very common in a lot of anime, but none that I've seen have managed to flesh it out on the level of Akira. Tetsuo is a confused and bitter character, and the crazy stuff that happens to him after getting experimented on certainly does not help his character to be a friendly guy. Akira makes Tetsuo out to be quite literally, insane and emotionally unstable. You'll want to sympathize with him, you really will, but the events in Akira make this a pretty much impossible feat.

    image.png

Constantly through this film you'll experience some of Tetsuo's insanity. I personally don't know what it's like to trip on acid, but I'd imagine that the feeling was captured perfectly in Akira. As I mentioned earlier in this review, at one point you'll have a giant teddy bear and two of his friends seeping milk from their stiching, staring down Tetsuo in a very disturbing manner. Later in the film, while Tetsuo is in a lot of pain from a headache caused by the weird experimentation you'll see him imagining all of his guts pouring from his body on to the sidewalk as he frantically tries to scoop up the exited organs and shove them back in. Of course he's just imagining it all, but it's still quite disturbing as his pain and fear are animated in a very vivid manner, so much that you can almost feel what he's feeling.

Something that really struck me as interesting is the fact that you'll hear the word "akira" spoken tons of times throughout the film, but there is no clear indication of what it actually is until much later on. The neatest occurance of this is when Tetsuo is imagining things, and along with the visuals comes the word spoken by a womanly voice. I found the repetition of the word throughout the film to leave quite the lasting impression in my mind, as you'll even hear non-important characters speaking of it. Keep in mind, there's never a pinpoint accurate, spoonfed definition of what Akira actually is, so you'll have to do your best to put everything together at the end of the film. I actually recommend watching this one twice to pick up more answers.

    image.png

I found Akira to be quite the visual treat, despite what I was first expecting before I had actually seen it in motion. One of the effects that sticks out particularly well in my mind is the ghost effect given to the lights on the motorbikes in the start of the film. This gave off a very surreal feeling to the battle amongst the two games. One aspect that I didn't particularly like were the character's appearances, namely their faces. This element just seemed a little off, and made some of the characters look as if they had irregularly large foreheads. This is a small hinderance, and the movie's artistic style more than makes up for it. Many of the characters look a little similar also, but this too is very small and easily overlooked.

Before going into this movie, I had heard from multiple sources that the dub into English is terrible for this film. I think these people were slightly exaggerating, as the English voicing isn't half bad. The voice talents do a decent acting job, exerting emotion into all the right places and they're different sounding enough that you can usually tell which character is speaking. With that said, the Japanese dub is better. The voice actors seem to go beyond normal anime movies, with even more emotion than their counterparts. Also, the movie is just more haunting in Japanese voices. Don't feel guilty if you prefer spoken English though, as their isn't a huge difference in quality between the two.

    image.png

    Final Recommendation

If you're a fan of disturbing cinematics, than this is for you. I also recommend this to anime fans (obviously), and also those who enjoy a good psychological thriller film. Anime fan or not, you've got no excuse for not checking out this wonderful movie.

I have the pleasure of recommending this incredible animation from the 80's, which will surely surprise more than one for the supreme quality of the animation. Besides serving as an introductory basis for Japanese animations worldwide, the film Akira has as its theme something totally modern, and in constant debate, bitter social criticism, and serving as a good formation of the mind with perfect messages, which require good attention, to know the moral lessons behind. It portrays well this bilateral universe, of social freedom against political repression, where the strength of the people is the basis of success.

All this fits into an animation of about 2 hours, with lots of action, violence and blood, for the more daring; it is certainly not a children's animation. The look further leaves its mark on the film, it's iconic scenes mixed with cyberpunk style, all of which will have you thinking for hours after the end of the film, stirring your mind and opening up new paths of vision in your society. The plot is set in Neo-Tokyo, in the futuristic year 2019. This city of Tokyo is surrounded by violence, sex and action, being part of a city rebuilt after a Third World War. In this context, human beings live, in total decay, and filth seems to permeate people, and collapse seems imminent.

    3

Education, the basis of social growth, does not seem to be present, from teachers to students, everyone is unable to believe in utopia, the only way is to act with violence. Conflicts often occur between politicians and rebellious liberals, who do not approve of the state of the city, so the animation demonstrates all the hatred and power found on both sides.

The whole war seems to have been triggered by a supernatural element, called Akira, an experiment whose location or appearance no one knows. The lack of information generated outrage from the society, which was looking for hope for their life as "garbage kings". The entire plot begins revolving around this milieu of individuals, with supernatural powers that can control society.

    4

The entire plot involves these conflicts between society and the city. The commentaries, particularly deep and psychological, portray this urban environment of seeing life. I also made a theory of opinion, on how to portray the characters in their real sense, which will be presented soon after.

The animation was one of the first factors that surprised me, I simply cannot believe that this work is 1988, and yet be fantastic and current. This is simply because all the graphic work was done by hand, with an absurd color complex, even going so far as to receive awards at the time. And not only that, one of the strong points and impacts of the animation is the soundtrack. Totally elaborate and innovative, it undoubtedly surprised the audience of the time, just as it has its impotence today.

It is undoubtedly a fantastic and surreal work of art, with elements that will make you think for hours about its meaning. I highly recommend this animation, it is all Japanese culture showing its importance and its impotence when it comes to showing a differentiated plot.

  18. Akira Anime Review - Classic Masterpiece@reviewzzz2079d

Anime films have become a large edifice that never stops giving and a large industry that competes with Hollywood and major filmmakers.

Anime movies and series do not end and we are waiting with passion and eagerness for our date today with a new manga that joined the list of wonderful works that have become a high edifice in the anime world until it became a unique artistic jewel

Anime films have become a large edifice that never stops giving and a large industry that competes with Hollywood and major filmmakers.

Today, as part of a wonderful and distinctive review, we will revive the story of the Anime Master, and we will take you on a wonderful journey in a movie that achieved a great achievement in a short period and was able to top all the platforms and compete so strongly that some considered it one of the best films in the history of anime.

So let's talk a little bit about Akira

    unnamed.gif

    The story

In the late 1990s, specifically, in 1988, the world is exposed to a very strange accident, which is a huge explosion that shakes the globe and does not stop it, but rather causes a strife that flares up and throws the world into a third world war.

But these things did not happen by chance. Rather, a boy with supernatural psychological powers was curtailed, and he was discovered, arrested and kept away, but what next?

In 2019 the world began to change, and gangs began to form and terrorism controlled them against the largest governments, and here we will have the leader of one of those gangs, Shotaro Kaneda, that hero who gained supernatural powers after a minor accident that he was exposed to mad governments and seeks to stop that disaster before he takes over the world and falls. Again as it happened in the past.

    image.png

    Impression

As we mentioned, the film’s story is characterized by an atmosphere of excitement and distinctive atmosphere. The film conveyed to us an image about the reality in which we live and the future that we fear. It is not only a science fiction film, but it conveys to us a message that this year has passed peacefully what will be next.

The film also focuses for us on another aspect of the heroes, their personal lives and their desire for freedom. They are not as gangs as the government imagines them, but rather they are leading a revolution against government corruption and the nuclear and technological threat that surrounds them.

Although the film was released more than 30 years ago, it gave an accurate perception of the events in which we live as if the scriptwriter traveled through time to write this wonderful story for us, and the events of the film and feelings and all of this were a classic combined with a scientific imagination of what will happen in the future and the film did not stop At this point, it gave us a strong dramatic performance between the characters and each other and the relationship between them and the motives that made them go through it.

    image.png

    Characters

We cannot deny the role of the prominent characters in this film, their relationship with each other, and the enthusiasm that they ignited within our breasts throughout the events of the film.

They have performed their role to the fullest and were able to deliver to us the desired message.

Friendship, loyalty, loyalty and trying to survive are all things that you can understand and relate to.

And if you have a favorite anime character, I tell you after watching this movie, all of the film crew will join your favorite list after the amazing performance they gave.

    image.png

    Photography and music

Despite the classic graphics presented by the film, it was the height of magnificence and beauty. This film brought about a great artistic and technical breakthrough and was able to provide us with amazing performance and wonderful colors, and despite the release of the film in 1988, it presented graphics for twenty consecutive years.

As for the wonderful classical music, the film did not skimp on us with any magnificence or beauty. In this aspect, the music also provided us with something different that made us merge with the story and the exciting events greatly.

Perhaps the music, if we separate it from the movie, will be enough for us to raise the hat for them, as it is a wonderful classical music that you will be able to call it at any time and in quietness to remember the past and live in a wonderful classic atmosphere.

In the end, whether you prefer anime movies or not, but watching this movie will give you an impression of how the film industry began in the modern era and how it was a historical vision from more than 30 years to our current era.

My review of the movie is 9/10

    1/10 Don't watch this anime

2/10 Awful, I wouldn't even bother wasting my time watching this anime

3/10 Bad, not a good anime, it's really bad

4/10 Not good at all, I would rather see something better

5/10 Meh, it bored me after watching it through the begining to end

6/10 Okay, it wasn't the best, but had some good ideas in there.

7/10 Good, it's a good show. (However, most of the time, a 7 can either be that I thought it was a good show, (Or Movie) and had good elements, but it's not something I'll come back to again, depending on what the show is, or how it went. Most of the time, it will be a show that I'll watch once)

8/10 Great, it's a great show with alot of stuff in it that will make you continue to watch it, even if it has some issues in story or plot, it's still worth watching, even if there's no flaws, just depends on what it is

9/10 Awesome, it's really awesome, so much epicness in this anime

10/10 Excelente, 100%, watch this anime, you will love it

Bonus Rating System - If an anime is Good and Great, at the same time (or at least getting up there) 7.5/10 and so on. It can also be a boost of how much I liked this anime and because it's really good or brilliant. Not to mention, the F***Up rating for an anime that is like....Wha?

My review for Akira (The anime film)

  26. Anime Reivew: Akira@thatanimesnob2981d

Akira is regarded as one of the most famous anime movies of all times, hailed for its cinematography and historical importance as the title that showed the west how animation can be far more than kidstuff. But how does it stand the test of time after all these years?

The theme is definitely hard to work on a modern audience. Back then science fiction was all about making technology seem very dangerous and scary, able to destroy humanity, or help it evolve into a new form of existence. This is no longer the case, since by now technology is a wonderful thing, full of videogames we can escape to, and have cyber sex. This does not make it bad, just outdated and down to personal preferences.

The tone still works fine. It is rather campy but focused on being a dystopia, where civilization became decadent, politicians are incompetent, people riot and expect a messiah to deliberate them, before everything blows up to smithereens.

The plot was and is simple, a result of cramming a huge manga into about two hours, simplifying and changing considerably several points to the point all you are left with is a fairy tale version. Reading the manga to get the full picture is not excusing nor improving anything, so yes, it is nothing much to talk about.

The characters suffer a lot because of the simple plot. They feel bland and shallow, closer to plot devises than people. Although many of them have different goals and motivations, there simply isn’t much time dedicated on anyone besides Tetsuo. Who by the way is the antagonist, not even the protagonist. This role belongs to Kaneda, a standard delinquent teenager who could be easily replaced by anyone else in his gang and you wouldn’t tell the difference. It’s Tetsuo who constantly changes throughout the movie, from a weak underling, to super saiyan Vegeta, and eventually to a huge Kthulu baby.

There is a decent attempt to portray the psychological damage and frustration everybody feels, but it comes off rushed and even silly because of the over-expressive way the characters are drawn. I know many who have a hard time telling if they are being serious, or to distinguish men from women because of the rather simplistic facial structure.

The pretty colors are of course the thing that still looks gorgeous and decades better than most of any other animated title of today. Extremely detailed, with multiple layers of animation and a high frame rate, all of which is hand-drawn. It is a splendid piece of work, even if it’s otherwise a minor aspect of what makes a movie good.

The music part is hit or miss. Most of the songs contribute to the eerie atmosphere of the setting, with the voice acting ranging from decent to god awful. And this is not limited to the first English dub which was done back when voice acting was a job nobody gave a damn about. Even in the original language, the actors don’t use the proper tone of voice half the time. It’s a bit distracting but otherwise nothing you can’t get used to.

After this breakdown, it becomes a 50-50 chance for someone to like the movie, thus making it controversial. Theme: based on preference Tone: yes Plot: no Characters: besides Tetsuo, no Animation: yes Music: yes to BGM, mostly no to voice acting

I personally find it very inspirational, very close to the problems of the era it was made in, and not about beta males porking their sisters in some school. It’s also retro, so it automatically becomes better than most of anything that came out in the past decade. It has some major issues but at least it’s a dystopia that makes sense, and not a piece of shit, written by Urobutcher. This is more than enough to keep it in my favorite anime list, and if you disagree with that, it’s because you grew up at a time when technology is all about fun and games.

The staff of Oh My Jump! Shonen Jump Shikyū o Sukuu (Oh My Jump! Shonen Jump Saves the World), the live-action series centering around Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, revealed on Friday that voice actor Akira Kamiya will provide the opening narration for the series. Kamiya has voiced many characters from anime adaptations of manga that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump, including the titular Kinnikuman from Kinnikuman, Ryō Saeba from City Hunter, and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.

The staff also unveiled still photos from the show.

The series will premiere on January 12 at 24:12 (effectively 12:12 a.m. on January 13) in TV Tokyo's "Drama 24" timeslot. The series will air as Drama 24's 50th work, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the magazine.

    Previously announced cast members include:

    • Atsushi Itou as protagonist Hiroshi Tsukiyama (pictured as Luffy from One Piece* in image right)
    • Shigeru Saiki as Chōyaku Tsuchida (pictured as All Might from My Hero Academia)
    • Shuntarō Yanagi as Shinji Kaneshiro (pictured as Taison Maeda from Rokudenashi Blues*)
    • Tohru Baba as Asuka Kurozuka (pictured as Kenshirō from Fist of the North Star)
    • Hitomi Satō as Miki Kigurashi (pictured as Arale from Dr. Slump)
    • Yasufumi Terawaki as Kōsuke Mizushima (pictured as Shiryu from Saint Seiya)
    • Nogizaka46's Rina Ikoma as Tomoko Himura (Pictured as Naruto)
    • Kobayashi Kendō as Jusaburō Ōarashi, Hiroshi's boss (upper right)

The story begins when Hiroshi Tsukiyama, a salesman that once dreamed of being a hero, witnesses his senior at work being sexually harassed, but he decides to pretend he didn't see anything. It is then that a mysterious man named Chōyaku Tsuchida takes him to a secret club named "Oh My Jump!," where adults discuss their favorite Shonen Jump manga, chapters, and characters. There, he meets Shinji Kaneshiro, a struggling manga artist skilled only at copying other people's work; Miki Kawagishi, a doctor who happens to like cosplaying and is seeking a marriage partner; Kōzuke Mizushima, a fancy man in finance; and Tomoko Himura, a college student who loves Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga.

The series will include the "secret stories" behind the creation of some Shonen Jump works, as well as urban legends surrounding the magazine.

Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine launched in 1968, and has since then become home to many iconic manga and anime franchises, such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star, Kochikame, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gintama, My Hero Academia, and many more.
