It came to an end after three seasons And just like that. Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda along with their new friends Seema and Lisa show us the life of women over 50 in New York City. This series in its first season tried to include a lot of that, characters and situations that bothered many people who gradually moved away and those who stayed to see the following seasons could enjoy an end for me worthy for now, although HBO confirmed that there is no fourth season, I say those who stayed because I know of many people who after seeing the first season or some chapters did not want to continue watching it (I know).

The fact is that we arrived at the third season without any change in terms of inclusion, since we did not see Che anymore and Rose, Charlotte’s youngest daughter, we accepted her as an elle. Está serie en su primera temporada trato de incluir mucho de eso, personajes y situaciones que molestaron a muchas personas que poco a poco se alejaron y los que nos quedamos para ver las siguientes temporadas pudimos disfrutar de un final para mí digno por ahora, aunque HBO confirmo que no hay una cuarta temporada, digo los que nos quedamos porque se de muchas personas que luego de ver la primera temporada o algunos capítulos no quisieron seguir viéndola (conozco).

El caso es que llegamos a la tercera temporada sin ningún cambio en cuanto a la inclusión pues a Che no la vimos más y Rose, la hija menor de Charlotte, la aceptamos como elle. Aquí más bien hablamos de temas mucho más contemporáneos para la edad de las protagonistas como sus relaciones de parejas, hijos y trabajo. Cuando terminamos la segunda temporada Carrie estaba apostando todo a una relación con Aidan, no sé cómo podría funcionar algo que la primera vez terminó tan mal, cómo pensar que se había superado el pasado y la desconfianza. Entiendo un poco a Carrie en cuanto a tener la esperanza de que está vez iba a funcionar, pensar que si volvió a su vida es por algo y solo había que tener paciencia porque el destino me está diciendo que ahora si.

Recordemos que ella dejo su trabajo en la firma de abogados para volver a la universidad y estudiar un máster en derechos humanos para volverse activista, también se está divorciando y está descubriendo una nueva parte de su sexualidad que hasta ahora no habría explorado, entonces Miranda está teniendo estos cambios drásticos en su vida y comenzando de cero en muchos aspectos, es lógico que no sepa cómo actuar o que actúe precipitadamente en algunas situaciones.

Otra cosa a la que quiero hacer alusión es que hay algunos personajes secundarios de los cuales tenemos mucho tiempo en pantalla y que en nada ayudan a la trama Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicol Ari Parker) la amiga de Charlotte y Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), en mi opinión podríamos a ver tenido más participación de Steve y Harry e incluso Brady. En este orden de ideas también tenemos tiempo en pantalla de Shay (Sara Ramírez) que en principio ayuda al carácter development de Miranda pero que de cierta forma hace que la serie se aleje de la trama central que es la amistad de las chicas. Tampoco me gustó que en cierto punto los hicieran parecer ancianos con la sordera de Steve y la operación de cadera de Carrie.

Con Charlotte me gustó mucho lo que hicieron, podemos ver al personaje original lidiando con los desafíos de tener 50, siempre poniendo por delante el bienestar de sus hijas a pesar de que a veces le cueste un poco asimilar algunas cosas debido a sus valores conservadores, esto es bonito porque refleja lo que hoy día viven muchas madres en procesos de aceptación con sus hijos. Con Carrie también me gustó mucho lo que hicieron, a veces es un poco desesperante ver que pasa el tiempo y no supera la muerte de Mr. Big, pero así justamente son los duelos, no tienen hora ni fecha, incluso a veces algunos no los superas solo aprendes a vivir con ello. Fue de cierta forma cómico el hecho de que intentara empezar a salir y que le fuese tan difícil creo que eso también forma parte del proceso del duelo y nos da una muestra de lo mal que lo pasan las personas tratando de súperar perder el amor de su vida. La escena de las cenizas me encantó le da a ella su cierre y lo hacen de la manera más digna para ambos, en su puente y con su vestimenta muy a lo Carrie, porque no podría ser de otra manera.

En mi opinión, a pesar de que hubo algunas cosas que no me gustaron para nada como la muerte de Mr. Big y el excesivo tiempo en pantalla de algunos personajes, "And just like that" logró su cometido y nos dio una buena narrativa de que paso con la vida de las chicas, no siento que sea necesario continuar con la misma en una segunda temporada, sería intentar preservar una franquicia innecesariamente, pero ya veremos qué pasa. A few days ago I made a post referring to what I thought regarding "And just like that" which is the spin-off of Sex and the city post here as we were already half way through the season, since the series ended in this post I tell you my final thoughts. Let's start:

The first thing I want to talk about is Miranda's story, too much criticism has been raised based on how this character was taken, it has been said that she lost her essence, that she became a joke and many other things and in my opinion I think they managed to perfectly capture the situation she was going through and how anyone could act in the same. Let's remember that she left her job at the law firm to go back to college and study a masters in human rights to become an activist, she is also getting divorced and is discovering a new part of her sexuality that until now she would not have explored, so Miranda is having these drastic changes in her life and starting from scratch in many aspects, it is logical that she does not know how to act or that she acts rashly in some situations.

Another thing I want to allude to is that there are some secondary characters of which we have a lot of screen time and that in no way help the plot Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicol Ari Parker) Charlotte's friend and Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), in my opinion we could have had more participation from Steve and Harry and even Brady. In this order of ideas we also have screen time for Shay (Sara Ramirez) which in principle helps Miranda's character develpment but in a way makes the series move away from the central plot which is the friendship of the girls. I also didn't like that at a certain point they made them seem old with Steve's deafness and Carrie's hip surgery.

With Charlotte I really liked what they did, we can see the original character dealing with the challenges of being 50, always putting the welfare of her daughters first even though sometimes it is hard for her to assimilate some things due to her conservative values, this is nice because it reflects what many mothers live today in the process of acceptance with their children. With Carrie I also liked very much what they did, sometimes it is a bit desperate to see that time passes and she does not get over Mr. Big's death, but that's just how grief is, it has no time or date, sometimes you don't even get over it, you just learn to live with it. It was somewhat comical the fact that he tried to start dating and that it was so difficult for him, I think that is also part of the grieving process and gives us a sample of how bad people have a hard time trying to get over losing the love of their life. The ashes scene I loved gives her closure and they do it in the most dignified way for both of them, on her bridge and in her very Carrie-esque outfit, because it couldn't be any other way.

In my opinion, even though there were some things I didn't like at all like the death of Mr. Big and the excessive screen time of some characters, "And just like that" achieved its purpose and gave us a good narrative of what happened with the girls' lives, I don't feel it's necessary to continue with it in a second season, it would be trying to preserve a franchise unnecessarily, but we'll see what happens. Hace algunos días salió al aire el spin off de la famosa serie de Sex ans the city, y que lleva por nombre "And just like that". La serie toma lugar años después de la original y de las dos películas. Cuenta con el casting original -parcialmente- ya que tenemos a tres de nuestras cuatro protagonistas y gran mayoría de personajes secundarios lo que es genial, tenemos la gran ausencia del personaje de Samantha Jones, ya que Kim Catrall decidió no volver al papel..Aunado a nuestro casting antiguo tenemos nuevos personajes que llegaron a "condimentar" un poco las cosas.

Como la historia tiene lugar años después, naturalmente nuestras protagonistas tienen que lidiar con problemas inherentes a la edad que tienen ahora y a la época en que vivimos. En este sentido, nuestras protagonistas deberán sopesar cosas como la soledad, problemas de género e identidad sexual de sus hij@s, problemas maritales y asuntos laborales. Para quienes fuimos fans de la serie original es súper interesante ver qué pasó con nuestras chicas con el paso del tiempo.

Lo que me ha gustado

Primero y principal los vestuarios. A pesar de que no tenemos a Patricia Field, quien es la vestuarista original de Sex and the city, el estilismo de nuestras protagonistas fue llevado por los asistentes de esta y realmente dieron en el clavo. Los vestuarios son exquisitos y una de las cosas que más me ha gustado es que es súper acordé a su edad conservando la esencia de los personajes y dándoles un estilo de 2022. Otra de las cosas que me gustó es la actualización de los personajes, en Sex and the city original Carrie trabaja escribiendo para una revista y ahora lo hace formando parte de un podcast.

También ha sido bastante comentada la inclusión tanto de personajes que forman parte de la comunidad lgbti+ como de minorías como personas de color. Es un update que le hacía falta a la serie y que ayuda mucho al desarrollo de la historia, donde algunas de nuestras protagonistas están tratando de redescubrir su sexualidad.

Y por último, naturalmente es genial que lograrán traer de vuelta a los personajes principales y a varios de los recurrentes de la serie original, hace que todo se sienta muy natural.

Lo que no me ha gustado

Creo que lo que más me ha chocado es como decidieron tapar el hueco de Samantha, no por decir que el personaje se mudó al Reino Unido sino porque continúan nombrandola y haciendo referencias inhecesarias a ella. Lo otro que tampoco me gustó fue que mataran a Mr Big en el primer capítulo, entiendo que fue para desarrollar la historia, ya que Sex and the city se basa básicamente de la vida amorosa de Carrie, pero no siento que realmente fuera necesario ya que es el amor de la vida de Carrie y pasaron demasiadas penurias como para que no tengan un final feliz.

Se que algunas personas han odiado lo que va de serie, pero para mí ha sido muy entretenida e interesante, esperemos a ver si está opinión cambia para el final de temporada.

A few days ago, the spin off of the famous Sex and the City series "And just like that" was aired. The series takes place years after the original and the two movies. It has the original cast -partially- as we have three of our four main characters and most of the supporting characters which is great, we have the great absence of Samantha Jones' character, as Kim Catrall decided not to return to the role...In addition to our old cast we have new characters that came to "spice" things up a bit.

As the story takes place years later, naturally our protagonists have to deal with problems inherent to the age they are now and the times we live in. In this sense, our protagonists will have to weigh things like loneliness, gender and sexual identity problems of their children, marital problems and work issues. For those of us who were fans of the original series, it's super interesting to see what happened to our girls over time.

What I liked

First and foremost the costumes. Even though we don't have Patricia Field, who is the original costume designer for Sex and the City, the styling of our leading ladies was handled by the assistants on this one and they really hit the nail on the head. The costumes are exquisite and one of the things that I liked the most is that they are super age appropriate, preserving the essence of the characters and giving them a 2022 style. Another thing I liked is the update of the characters, in the original Sex and the city Carrie works writing for a magazine and now she does it as part of a podcast.

The inclusion of characters that are part of the lgbti+ community as well as minorities such as people of color has also been quite commented on. It's a long overdue update to the series and it helps a lot with the development of the story, where some of our main characters are trying to rediscover their sexuality.

And lastly, naturally it's great that they managed to bring back the main characters and several of the recurring ones from the original series, it makes everything feel very natural.

What I didn't like

I think what shocked me the most is how they decided to plug Samantha's hole, not by saying that the character moved to the UK but because they keep naming her and making unnecessary references to her. The other thing I also didn't like was that they killed off Mr Big in the first episode, I understand it was to develop the story, since Sex and the city is basically based on Carrie's love life, but I don't feel it was really necessary since he is the love of Carrie's life and they went through too much hardship for them not to have a happy ending.

I know some people have hated the series so far, but for me it has been very entertaining and interesting, let's wait to see if this opinion changes for the season finale.

#HBOmax en Diciembre rescata de la nostalgia una serie que nunca se fue del todo. Luego de su final, contó con dos películas poderosas y ahora un recuento de lo que sucedió luego de los acontecimientos de las películas. No es otra que #SexAndTheCity (Sexo en Nueva York en España o Sexo en la Ciudad en América Latina).

Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte y Samantha -esta última de forma omnipresente-. Son ahora cincuentonas casadas, con hijos adolescentes, esposos y trabajos que las han obligado a reinventarse. Pese a lo que pudiera parecer, el hilo argumentativo de la serie no está agotado. Como ya es costumbre en las tramas de las series de ésta última década, muy a su manera y estilo presenta giros en los acontecimientos que logra sorprender.

La serie sigue teniendo esa comedia sutil, subida de tono y con hálitos de romance que exacerba la nostalgia. Son cincuentonas si, pero no han dejado de ser mujeres y la sociedad siempre esperará de las mujeres mucho más... es el toque de machismo que nunca habremos de perder.

Con un guión sólido. Un elenco que aún echa en falta a Kim Catrall pero que logra no suplirla, pero si decirle sin palabras al espectador que Samantha está, logra de muy buen grado llevar a cabo los episodios que sobrepasan los 30 min habituales de la serie original.

Y como era de esperarse, la producción vuelve a hacer un desfile de modas único con Nueva York como pasarela principal.
