Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) [ENG/ESP]@yaslenysofia258d
ENGLISH
Greetings @Movies&Tvshows community…
You know, I was sorting through some things over the weekend and came across the VHS of Atlantis: The Lost Empire , and someone was talking about how underrated this movie was at the time. That's why today I wanted to revisit this cult Disney film that had a lot to offer, both in terms of theme and characters, but has been the least talked about. So, here are my impressions and why you can't miss it if you haven't seen it yet.
Directed by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, Disney brought us to the big screen in 2001, an adventure-filled animation, a fantasy and science fiction story based on a literary and philosophical myth named in the writings of Plato. It featured the voices of actors Michael J. Fox, James Garner, Cree Summer, Don Novello, among others.
The film was not well received, leading to the cancellation of a sequel series they had planned, however, I just found out if they released a film, video, I really didn't know how things went there, I think it was only released on DVD itself, called Atlantis: Milo's Return, even some of the voices were replaced, but I couldn't talk about it because I didn't see it, I think I'll look for it later.
After some scenes of the megatsunami that threatened the city of Atlantis and the queen of that empire consumed by the crystal that protects everyone, we find ourselves in 1914 with the young Milo Thatch, a young and peculiar linguist and cartographer who works in a museum; in addition to being obsessed with finding the lost city of Atlantis, following in the footsteps of his late grandfather. After being fired from the museum, he gets a unique opportunity when his grandfather's old friend, Mr. Whitmore, who was not only a millionaire, but also wanted to finance the expedition to find that lost empire.
Milo gladly accepts, embarking into the depths of the sea with a crew led by Commander Rourke. After intense challenges on their way to find Atlantis, they finally reach their destination, but, to their surprise, the place was inhabited (believing they would not find citizens), meeting Kida, the princess of the Empire, who reveals that they have forgotten their history and technology, so Milo will help her rediscover her past thanks to the knowledge he has of it; the film will take us on this adventure to know the lost Empire and the fight to protect the heart of Atlantis.
This movie is one of my favorites from Disney, its aesthetics and story always captivate me and it saddens me that it has not received the deserved praise, its failure at the box office and that it had a more comic book and action-adventure style that, apparently, did not resonate with the public at the time, I have not even seen that live-action remake, which right now seems to dominate the studio's cinematographic world, although I think it is better, so as not to ruin the story, at least they made it like the film "How to surrender your dragon", in which the characters were more in-depth.
What I like about this film is that, in addition to its aesthetics, which I like because it was a different style than what the studio had been bringing us, the setting and the characters they presented to us, the one of pursuing what you have dedicated so much of your life to, even if they didn't believe you, even so, you did not intend to give up and managed to surround yourself with those who were willing to trust in the knowledge you had acquired, were the attractive elements that caught my attention. Adding that, this whole tale of Atlantis was extremely captivating. A civilization under the sea? I think that for a child it is intriguing and lets your imagination run wild.
-A unique visual aesthetic, with distinctive character designs.
-A fairly mature story, with attractive literary references.
-All the characters are memorable, even when they are secondary, since they have their specific appearances on stage, which leave their essence.
-A great and exceptional musical section, and the father of all Latin Americans (Chayanne) performed the performance in Spanish, which makes it even more memorable for me.
Just like Treasure Planet and other films, Atlantis, at the time did not generate profits for its studio, but has had greater significance than many others, it has been part of the cinematic culture, with a unique story and visual elements that have made it a reference to explore with other visual styles that provide greater variety and do not focus on a single character design and even on the environment and objects that are part of the narrative that is being developed.
I share with you the VHS that I still have:

¿Saben?

With just one more paper remain for me tomorrow, I took the risk and liberty of starting my post exams movie time now.
In my defense, it's a movie I've long lusted for and have shown a large act of self control in avoiding it till now.
Atlantis The Lost Empire
***
### Plot
> Milo Tatch has always wanted to go on the grand adventure and uncover the treasure that his grandfather dreamt about: The Lost City of Atlantis.
On his final and most desperate try, he manages to come across his grandfather's old friend, and with his resources they find the lost city, but without Milo's help, it's going to get missing once again.
***
Now I know when I said *"it's a movie I've long lusted for.."* most people would think and may had tried to guess what new movie he had left his books for.
In actuality, this film is an old one that came out in 2001. It's also the first version of the City of Atlantis that I've heard and personally the best I've seen.
Tales and legends of the past like the Lost City of Atlantis, The City of El Dorado, The Fall of Pompeii have been the inspirations for many wonderful literary and cinematic works.
Yet, like I said earlier this year, I'd center my search on past cartoon's amd movies, to find a way to preserve them fornthe coming generation.
Just recently I showed Rio to my nieces and they've fallen in love with the movie... Played it three times everyday for 3 days till their mother had to delete it.
Now they're making everyone turn deaf with their rendition of the show's songs 😂😂😂
This show by Disney like I said was one of the lost funny movies I remember.
It didn't do quite well monetarily for Disney due to the rage at that time going towards the new Disney Princesses coming out, but I fell in love with it.
What I Liked
***
If you asked me this question then and now, the numbers of things I loved about this show would only increase and be in more detail.
The movie was awesomeness in its entirety and everything started from the great
##### - Plot.
The plot of the show was awesome. I've always been in love with myths and legends since when I was a child, and for me back then this was the first I was introduced to the legend of Atlantis.
The idea of brave explorers going to look for a city underwater was quite wonderful, a lovely plot to spark the adventurous imagination of young children and seki😂.
- World Building
I think Disney absolutely outdid themselves with this. We get to see an entirely new world here.
The pictures and buildings and vehicles, everything was so different and futuristic and straight up awesome.
Atlantis was a different world, apparently hundreds of years ahead of the earth and indeed it looked that way.
- Animation.
The animation was splendidly done too.
At this point it's not a joke nor a shade but an honest plea that whatever Disney was doing before, they should go back and relearn it😭
It's just unbelievable how 23 years later and this show still looks as good as this, still sounds as good as this. It aged like fine wine 😭.
- Characters
One thing I loved about this movie was the uniqueness of the characters.
Like they were all so detailed and different, from Sweet down to Mole. Everybody had their moments and with all that was going on, we got to know a little bit about them.
Of course the main focus was on the protagonist, Milo, but all character's were in view and all were loved.
The antagonists in the other hand were some what shunned. It was almost intentional 😂😂
General Overview
***
It was a lovely even after I just watched it 13 years later, my sense of awe and wonder are as strong as ever.
It just goes to show that there are loads of old gems out there that have been forgotten, somewhat like the lost city of Atlantis.
We just have to find them and keep them safe.
I give this show an 8 out of 10.

Hello movie fans. Today I want to talk to you about another Disney animated movie that is also one of my favorites, with a very similar style to the previous "Tarzan" movie, combining traditional animation with CGI. For being the first time that Disney brings out an animated project in the science fiction genre, they did it very well, although what I don't agree with is the failure it had at the box office, which doesn't do it justice considering how cult this work ended up becoming nowadays. Produced directly by Walt Disney Animation Studios, this animated feature film is one of the first to move completely away from the typical fantasy films, fairy tales and musicals, which caused it to receive mixed reviews at the time of its release. The film has a great voice cast, including Michael J. Fox, Cree Summer, James Garner, Leonard Nimoy, Don Novello, among others. I invite you to stay and remember one of the best animated works that the great mouse franchise dared to release in its best days.

The film opens with an incredible event that happened thousands of years before Christ, with a huge tsunami that completely wiped out an entire civilization, the great Atlantis. Or so it was to happen but for their leader, King Kashekim protected his people and his daughter, Princess Kidágakash from the enormous flood, gathering in the "Heart of Atlantis", where there is a powerful blue gem that protected the city. However, the queen is consumed by the crystal to later generate a dome-shaped sphere to cover Atlantis just when it is completely flooded, remaining at the bottom of the ocean during all this time. The millennia pass and between the years 1910 a cartographer and linguist named Milo Thatch presents his project concerning Atlantis to the Council of the Smithsonian Institution Museum in Washington D.C.
The board rejects Milo's proposal to fund an expedition to search for the "Shepherd's Journal", which is an ancient manuscript containing all the information needed to reach Atlantis, the lost empire. While our protagonist is marginalized, a mysterious woman takes him to an eccentric millionaire named Preston B. Whitmore, who in the past was a great friend of his grandfather, Thadeus Thatch. He gives her the famous diary, after financing an expedition to find it and thus return the great favor his friend asked of him before he passed away. Now, his grandson, Milo Thatch with his great knowledge in cartography and linguistics, along with the information on how to get to Atlantis, will be part of another great expedition that Whitmore will finance to visit the lost empire along with a great team of experts.

Trama
Below, I will leave you the trailer of the movie:
This is one of those movies that make you think about how great Disney was at the time when they dared to bring out projects that were far away from the usual fairy and fantasy stories and created incredible stories with a level and style that are incomparable. This film deserves to be remembered as a cult film because of the impact it had on an entire generation, in addition to bringing to the animated screen one of the most popular and iconic stories in the industry, written by the great Jules Verne. Beyond being a simple story with a beautiful soundtrack and funny characters, this film is one of the best you can find in the genre of science fiction and adventure together. A work that brings the best of traditional animation together with the best of CGI and cinema of the time. I can't remember the absurd amount of times I've seen this movie since I was a kid, the way it fills you with emotion and makes you want to watch it from start to finish is something that is very difficult to achieve in many movies nowadays.

Let's start talking about the story, which was inspired by the tales of Jules Verne, which shows us for the first time in this century the great city of Atlantis. The first few minutes of the film are enough to make you stay until the end, with an impressive demonstration of power and greatness, an advanced civilization that possesses incalculable power and that by fate was banished from the world, sinking and remaining at the bottom of the ocean for millennia. This story is full of drama, love and nostalgia to know what in the past was one of the oldest and most advanced human civilizations in history. The secret of eternal life, power, the future of humanity, all this is mentioned in this story full of action and adventure. With characters with whom we can easily identify, Milo Thatch, the protagonist, being one of them.
Milo is one of those protagonists who do not stand out for being strong, famous or very good looking. His intelligence is everything but his reputation and popularity is not the best, being a mockery for the world of science of his time. However, his dreamer's spirit and his research concerning Atlantis takes him far away, getting to know the great lost empire. Along with this, Milo meets Kida, who we could say is the closest thing to a "Disney Princess", being the daughter of the King of Atlantis. This title makes her carry a destiny, a legacy that, like her mother, she has to fulfill, giving her life to protect her people. However, this is not what she wants, since her dream is to know what exists in the outside world, which attracted her to Milo, who comes from that unknown world. But their meeting will not be entirely fortuitous, which makes this movie a roller coaster of emotions. The perfect blend of love, adventure, humor and drama in this film is fantastic.

The technical work of this film is impressive, being one of the best animated works I have seen in its time, which has the artistic collaboration of the great Mike Mignola (creator of the Hellboy comic book) along with a great computer animation studio, or CGI. The mixture of this with such a fluid and impeccable artistic style made it receive multiple accolades at the time. Even now it remains one of the best animated works Disney owns in the science fiction genre. Its soundtrack, on the other hand, is worthy of being praised and remembered by all due to the great work done by James Newton Howard. All in all, a very well made animated film, with a beautiful story full of action, adventure, drama and comedy; besides having characters of all kinds that you can easily love or hate for a lifetime. A way of painting the great world of Atlantis with a way of seeing the world and today's society, leaving us clear messages and an admiration that deserves this audiovisual wonder that I recommend to see, if you haven't done it yet (and if you have already seen it, then I invite you to see it again).
Personally, I give it a 9.5/10 rating for the genre of science fiction, action, adventure and comedy.

I might have seen this movie or at least part of it when it came out because I had faint memories of it. It was a pretty cool action adventure movie. It is a little boy's dream where crazy machines meet massive fantastical landscapes. It is better than a lot of other action adventure movies and this is animation, and is even a good movie for adults. It stars Michael J Fox as the lead.
