   Por aquí estamos de nuevo hablando sobre otra película de este característico actor, digo característico porque todos sus films tienen un camino, un estilo, una peculiaridad que hace que a los fanáticos de él, porque me considero uno de ellos, nos guste y nos llame la atención así sea para pasar el rato. Sabemos que Liam Neeson está de retirada por lo que muy probablemente estemos ante sus ultimas películas, que esto es sinónimo de que sean malas y pesadas de ver? - para nada, al contrario y apoyándome de lo que dije anteriormente, todas siguen teniendo su sello personal.

   Here we are again talking about another film of this characteristic actor, I say characteristic because all his films have a way, a style, a peculiarity that makes us fans of him, because I consider myself one of them, like him and call our attention even if it is just to pass the time. We know that Liam Neeson is retiring so we are probably facing his last films, that this is synonymous that they are bad and heavy to watch? - Not at all, on the contrary and based on what I said before, they all still have his personal stamp.

   La última película de él de la que hablé por acá fue "The Ice Road", una del año pasado que la verdad me gustó bastante para lo que esperaba. Y me gustó porque ya viene siendo común que en casi todas sus apariciones haga el papel del justiciero en búsqueda de la verdad al que no le pueden tocar ni a su familia, amigos o compañeros de trabajo. Pues bueno, esa es prácticamente la misma premisa que veremos en Blacklight solo que Neeson no es un camionero sino un "agente" del gobierno de los Estados Unidos.

   The last movie of his that I talked about here was "The Ice Road", a movie from last year that I really liked a lot for what I expected. And I liked it because it has become common that in almost all his appearances he plays the role of the vigilante in search of the truth who can't touch his family, friends or co-workers. Well, that's practically the same premise we'll see in Blacklight, except that Neeson is not a truck driver but an "agent" of the U.S. government.

   Travis Block (Liam Neeson) es una persona, digámoslo así, que trabaja fuera de los libros oficiales para el FBI, algo así como en las sombras. Es un operador que lo que hace básicamente es rescatar a otros agentes encubiertos que han quedado expuestos por alguna razón. El tema es que un buen día descubre, gracias a una periodista, que existe un programa que está asesinando a personas inocentes, a ciudadanos americanos y que aparentemente está siendo manejado por el mismo gobierno.

   Travis Block (Liam Neeson) is a person, let's put it this way, who works off the official books for the FBI, sort of in the shadows. He's an operator who basically rescues other undercover agents who have been exposed for some reason. The thing is that one day he discovers, thanks to a journalist, that there is a program that is killing innocent people, American citizens, and that apparently it is being run by the government itself.

   Ahora al ser él quien quedó expuesto termina estando bajo el ojo del FBI convirtiéndose en una incomodidad para las altas esferas del poder. Al final todo se resume en una carrera por descubrir la verdad y lograr hacer justicia, cosa que es lo mejor que se le da Neeson. Para ver esta película les sugiero quitarse el traje de críticos por poco menos de dos horas y simplemente ver el film con la mente en blanco, solo disfruten la trama.

   Now that he is the one who was exposed, he ends up being under the eye of the FBI and becomes a nuisance for the upper echelons of power. In the end it all comes down to a race to uncover the truth and achieve justice, which is what Neeson does best. To see this film I suggest you take off your critic's suit for a little less than two hours and just watch the film with a blank mind, just enjoy the plot.

   Que les puedo decir de esta película, que es exactamente lo que esperan ver de un trabajo de Neeson? - pues la respuesta es si. No hay que ser muy profundos para entender que este tipo de films no van a llegar muy lejos pero la forma en como entretienen al espectador es la misma de siempre. Ver a Liam, o en este caso a Travis, enfrentarse a agentes del gobierno, usar armas y lanzagranadas, tener peleas cuerpo a cuerpo a pesar de su edad y trata de desenredar una conspiración gubernamental son cosas de las que es imposible cansarse de ver.

   What can I say about this movie, that it is exactly what you expect to see from Neeson's work? - Well, the answer is yes. You don't have to be very deep to understand that this type of film isn't going to get very far but the way it entertains the viewer is the same as always. Watching Liam, or in this case Travis, take on government agents, use guns and grenade launchers, get into hand-to-hand fights despite his age and try to unravel a government conspiracy is something you can't get enough of.

   Y es que la trama es sencilla y directa. Al principio no entiendes mucho que es lo que está pasando porque suceden muchas cosas a la vez pero todo eso es un preámbulo para mostrarte el contexto de las cosas y lo que necesitas saber para comprender el trabajo de Block. Si creo que es un poco más lenta en comparación a otras películas de Neeson, no solo en acción sino en desarrollo, como dije la trama es sencilla pero esto no es impedimento para que sea medianamente disfrutable.

   And the plot is simple and straightforward. At the beginning you don't really understand what's going on because there are so many things happening at once but all that is a preamble to show you the context of things and what you need to know to understand Block's work. I do think it is a little slower compared to other Neeson movies, not only in action but in development, as I said the plot is simple but this is not an impediment to make it moderately enjoyable.

   Hay que entender que Neeson tiene casi 70 años así que verlo hacer este tipo de películas que siempre van a conllevar algún esfuerzo físico tiene que suponer algo de admiración. Pero no todo son golpes y disparos, detrás también hay una parte de periodismo de investigación, buscar la verdad, armar ese rompecabezas para así exponer a los culpables. La periodista Mira Jones (Emmy Raver-Lampman) es la encargada de esa parte y la que le da a la película y a la trama en realidad un poco más de profundidad la cual es muy necesaria.

   You have to understand that Neeson is almost 70 years old, so seeing him do this kind of movies that will always involve some physical effort has to be something to admire. But it's not all blows and gunshots, there is also a part of investigative journalism, searching for the truth, putting the puzzle together to expose the culprits. The journalist Mira Jones (Emmy Raver-Lampman) is in charge of that part and the one who gives the film and the plot a little more depth which is much needed.

   Decir que me aburrí viéndola es mentira porque sabía perfectamente lo que me iba a conseguir y lo que iba a ver que no es otra cosa que un thriller lleno de conspiración y acción. Lo único que pudiera decir es que predecible en muchos aspectos, supongo que ya teniendo la visión muy clara de lo que es un film de Neeson es comprensible que pasen esas cosas. Pero no se confundan, con esto no quiero decir que la película sea insufrible de ver, diría que es la ideal para pasar el rato un sábado o un domingo por la tarde.

   To say that I was bored watching it is a lie because I knew perfectly well what I was going to get and what I was going to see, which is nothing but a thriller full of conspiracy and action. The only thing I could say is that it was predictable in many aspects, I guess having a very clear vision of what a Neeson film is, it is understandable that these things happen. But make no mistake, by this I don't mean that the film is insufferable to watch, I would say it's the ideal movie to pass the time on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

   Los personajes en general me parecieron decentes, puede que a uno que otro le haya faltado más convicción y fuerza, Aidan Quinn (Gabriel Robinson) quien hace del director del FBI. Si es el que dirige una de las instituciones más grandes del mundo lo mínimo que quiero ver es que tenga un carácter y un temple digno de un personaje con semejante responsabilidad; no lo vimos así. La periodista es lo que es, una persona con agallas e intuitiva que siempre va a buscar el bien y la verdad sin importar que. Gracias a ella, quien es el enlace o el pegamento, la película tiene un sentido.

   The characters in general seemed decent to me, maybe one of them lacked more conviction and strength, Aidan Quinn (Gabriel Robinson) who plays the director of the FBI. If he is the one who runs one of the largest institutions in the world the least I want to see is that he has a character and mettle worthy of a character with such responsibility; we did not see it that way. The journalist is what she is, a person with guts and intuitive who will always seek the good and the truth no matter what. Thanks to her, who is the link or the glue, the film makes sense.

   No vamos a hablar mal de Neeson, todo está dicho. Es una historia que si me la cuentan sin decirme quien es el protagonista muy probablemente hubiera dicho su nombre. Hay un elemento que no nombré pero que en la película verán que también siempre está presente en todo lo que tiene que ver con Liam, uno que yo diría es sumamente importante para el desarrollo de la trama y que explica la personalidad de su personaje.

   We're not going to badmouth Neeson, all is said and done. It's a story that if you told it to me without telling me who the main character is I would have most likely said his name. There is an element that I didn't name but in the film you will see that it is also always present in everything that has to do with Liam, one that I would say is extremely important for the development of the plot and that explains the personality of his character.

   Vamos a darle un 6.5/10 porque si la noté ligeramente más calmada que films anteriores. Creo que era una trama a la que se le pudo sacar un poco más pero también entiendo que son películas con un presupuesto muy limitado y con un gran actor pero que inevitablemente va de salida. Si la disfruté, me entretuvo la hora y cuarenta minutos que tiene como duración, a pesar de todo pienso que cumple con las expectativas que te creas antes de verla y porque al final de cuentas es una película de Liam Nesson, es imposible que sea mala. Les dejo su tráiler para que le echen una mirada.

   Let's give it a 6.5/10 because I did notice it slightly calmer than previous films. I think it was a plot that could have done a little more but I also understand that these are films with a very limited budget and with a great actor but inevitably goes out. If I enjoyed it, I was entertained by the hour and forty minutes it has as duration, despite everything I think it meets the expectations that you create before watching it and because at the end of the day it is a Liam Nesson movie, it is impossible for it to be bad.
