I think this helped a lot for Netflix to fully trust in this, his new project, now made together with Lenore Zion, with whom he already worked in Channel Zero.
From my simple point of view, those claims about an homage to Lynch were true and false at the same time.Why do I say this? Because we must go to the original story on which the miniseries is based.

The city of Los Angeles in the 90's, where abnormal things happen, but the characters act normally in the face of mysterious and even absurd events. That's the first thing you have to keep in mind for you to make a connection with the story. If you don't get past those barriers in the first episode, I doubt you'll finish watching the eight chapters that make up the mini-series.
Strange happenings occur from the very first sequence, where Lisa Nova calls her friend Code, a young man with connections to people in the city's underworld, to allow her to spend a few days at his house. The protagonist is followed by a motorized vehicle, something she doesn't seem to care much about, because she is running away from something more disturbing. A terrible event that occurred when she shot the last sequence of her excellent short film.
Strange characters, zombie deaths, witches, spells, rituals, cats, sex, dreamlike experiences, nightmares and a lot of black humor, all this becomes an everyday occurrence in Lisa Nova's life. She seems to be special. Why, for whom? Not for the film producer, who will not hesitate to make her sign a contract and then keep the rights to produce the film that will put him back in the limelight of the most successful in Hollywood.
The setting in the nineties, remains faithful to the novel, but they could change the dates on which the story takes place and the moral decadence that surrounds the world of the rich and famous of the mecca of cinema would be the same. Selfish beings, sycophants, opportunists, sexual exploitation of aspiring celebrities. Hatred will drive Lisa Nova to do the unimaginable to achieve her goal. Make Burke suffer and regain control of the film. The help of that mysterious character called Boro, who seems to know things about her, will be vital to achieve her goal. But what will be the price to pay? Everything is unveiled from the first episode, so I warn you that you must be prepared to accept the proposal, because after a nasty scene, surreal and crazy, where a newborn cat is involved, there will be no turning back. La ciudad de Los Angeles en los años 90, donde ocurren cosas anormales , pero los personajes actúan de forma normal ante hechos misteriosos e incluso absurdos. Es lo primero que tienes que tener en cuenta para que logres una conexión con la historia. Si no logras superar esas barreras en el primer episodio, dudo que termines de ver los ocho capítulos que conforman la mini serie.
Extraños sucesos ocurren desde la primera secuencia, donde Lisa Nova llama a su amigo Code, un joven con conexiones con gente de los bajos fondos de la ciudad, para que le permita pasar unos días en su casa. La protagonista es seguida por un motorizado, algo que parece no importarle mucho, porque está huyendo de algo más perturbador. Un terrible hecho que ocurrió cuando grabo la última secuencia de su excelente cortometraje.
Personajes misteriosos, muertes zombis, brujas, hechizos, rituales, gatos, sexo, experiencias oníricas, pesadillas y mucho humor negro, todo esto pasa a ser algo cotidiano en la vida de Lisa Nova. Ella parece ser especial ¿Por qué? ¿Para quién? No para el productor de cine, que no dudara en hacerla firmar un contrato para luego quedarse con los derechos de producir la película que lo volverá a poner en la palestra de los más exitosos de Hollywood.
La ambientación en la década de los noventa, se mantiene fiel a la novela, pero pudieron cambiar las fechas en que se desarrolla la historia y la decadencia moral que rodea el mundo de los ricos y famosos de la meca del cine seria la misma. Seres egoístas, aduladores, oportunistas, aprovechamiento sexual de los aspirantes a ser famosos. Tanto la novela como la mini serie se pueden catalogar como una gran sátira de todo lo que rodea la industria del cine, esa parte que no vemos, la que se oculta detrás del escenario, donde lo sórdido predomina y no hay glamour.
La mini serie puede que abre demasiadas sub tramas y algunas se alargan de forma innecesaria, perdiendo un poco de fuerza toda la sátira y denuncia sobre el star system. Hubiese sido maravilloso enfocarse un poco más en los entretelones de la industria. El foco principal es Lisa Nova y sus deseos de venganza contra el hombre que le robo su película.
El odio impulsara a Lisa Nova a hacer lo inimaginable para lograr su objetivo. Que Burke sufra y recuperar el control de la película. La ayuda de ese misterioso personaje llamado Boro, que parece saber cosas de ella, será vital para lograr su objetivo. ¿Pero cual será el precio a pagar? Todo es develado desde el primer episodio, por eso les advierto que deben estar preparados para aceptar la propuesta, porque después de una desagradable escena, surrealista y loca, donde un gato recién nacido está involucrado, no habrá marcha atrás. Lo tomas o lo dejas.
What the hell are they showing me? I thought to myself at the end of the first episode. I liked what I saw, but I understand that many of you, will decide that you won't watch the remaining episodes. I'm just telling you that you will miss out on scenes that for me were fabulous, and that reflect that much-talked about homage to the style of the famous filmmaker that I named in the introduction of the post.
Although its aesthetics, black humor and disturbing scenes, are exciting, I didn't feel it was a transgressive mini-series. I think the screenwriting team, led by the two creators and consisting of Haley Z. Boston, Matthew Ross Fennell, Christina Ham and Mando Alvarado, lacked more guts to make something incredible. Perhaps for the new generations some scenes will be unpleasant and they will consider it transgressive, but for many others, who are familiar with the works of the filmmakers to whom they make references, it will seem like a light product.
The black humor, present in all the episodes, is partly what manages to level the production and make it entertaining in the parts that should have been cut a little. In this I will be a little harsh, because it seems to me that there were too many writers involved and when the whole story ends, we realize that they could have summarized and built it with fewer episodes. I think the result would have been better, although I was never bored, because it has enough humor for us to enjoy it.
The characters Lisa Nova, Boro and Burke are the best developed in the story, because all the events revolve around them. Lisa Nova wants to make a name for herself in the industry, but the industry, represented by Burke, devours her before she realizes it. Aunque su estética, el humor negro y las escenas perturbadoras, son excitantes, no sentí que fuese una mini serie transgresora. Creo que el equipo de guionistas, encabezados por los dos creadores y compuesto por Haley Z. Boston, Matthew Ross Fennell, Christina Ham y Mando Alvarado, les falto mas agallas para hacer algo increíble. Quizás para las nuevas generaciones algunas escenas sean desagradables y lo consideren transgresor, pero para muchos otros, que se conocen las obras de los cineastas a los que hacen referencias, les parecerá un producto ligero.
El humor negro, presente en todos los episodios, en parte es la que logra nivelar la producción y hacerla entretenida en las partes que debieron ser recortadas un poco. En esto si seré un poco duro, porque me parece que fueron demasiados guionistas involucrados y cuando finaliza toda la historia, nos damos cuenta que pudieron resumirla y construirla con menos episodios. Pienso que el resultado hubiese sido mejor, aunque a mí nunca me aburrió, porque tiene suficiente humor para que la disfrutemos.
Los personajes Lisa Nova , Boro y Burke son los mejores desarrollados en la historia, porque alrededor de ellos es que se van encadenando todos los acontecimientos. Lisa Nova quiere hacerse un nombre dentro de la industria, pero la industria, representada por Burke, la devora antes de que pueda darse cuenta. Es cuando Boro, aparece dentro de todo ese sub mundo de fantasía presente en la historia, para jugar con todos ellos.
Who the hell is Boro? At first it's not very clear who this cat-worshipping woman is who has a group of zombies at her command. Is she a witch? A demon? A vampire? Not do we know what her interest in Lisa and her past is. Boro is really the one who pulls the strings in this story and has a very clear objective, but one that he hides from everyone. When Lisa discovers Boro's true nature, it will be too late to undo the deal, because when you make a deal with Boro, you have to keep it.
The balance between the subplots is the weak side of the whole mini-series. The revenge against Burke is the main axis, but it also includes the personal drama of Lisa Nova, who must face the demons that haunt her, on the one hand the dreams/nightmares with her mother, a faceless being, because the only thing she has of her is an old photograph with her back to the camera.
The other subject that torments her will make her appearance, Mary Gray, the actress who starred in her short film and with whom she had a sentimental relationship. She also wants her own revenge for the atrocious event that occurred on the last day of shooting. An event that will be revealed little by little as the chapters progress.
Added to all this is the subplot of Boro, his origins and the identity of the person we see physically. These are small detours from the main plot that lengthen the story. It is still entertaining, but by making us forget Lisa's revenge for moments, it weakens the central axis in a way.
If you are willing to accept this world created by the author of the novel and now adapted to television, it is a miniseries that you may like. Although it is not a great work, its madness is very funny and it seems to me a great risk for Netflix to have invested money in a proposal that I'm not sure will bring them the expected success.

Tampoco sabemos cuál es su interés por Lisa y su pasado. Boro es realmente quien mueve los hilos en esta historia y tiene un objetivo muy claro, pero que oculta a todos. Cuando Lisa descubra la verdadera naturaleza de Boro, será demasiado tarde para deshacer el trato, porque cuando se hace un trato con Boro , hay que cumplirlo.
El equilibrio entre las subtramas es el lado débil de toda la mini serie. Ella también quiere su propia venganza por el atroz suceso ocurrido el último día de rodaje. Un suceso que se irá desvelando poco a poco a medida que avancen los capítulos.
A todo esto se suma la subtrama de Boro, sus orígenes y la identidad de la persona que vemos físicamente. Son pequeños desvíos de la trama principal que alargan la historia. Sigue siendo entretenida, pero al hacernos olvidar por momentos la venganza de Lisa, debilita en cierto modo el eje central.
Si estás dispuesto a aceptar este mundo creado por el autor de la novela y ahora adaptado a la televisión, es una miniserie que puede gustarte. Aunque no es una gran obra, su locura es muy divertida y me parece un gran riesgo para Netflix haber invertido dinero en una propuesta que no estoy seguro de que les traiga el éxito esperado.

Catherine Keener plays Boro, the enigmatic woman who has a special interest in Lisa. She seems to have knowledge of witchcraft, and promises to fulfill Lisa's wish to destroy Burke's life. But not everything goes as Lisa thought, while Boro will continue to pull the strings, as a master puppeteer, who moves within the underworld of Los Angeles, where creatures, zombies and beings from beyond walk among us. Great performance by the actress who along with Rosa Salazar will have good chemistry when playing their roles.
Eric Lange plays Lou Burke, the nasty producer of Holywood, hysterical, charlatan, manipulative, harasser, all the flaws of such powerful people in the entertainment industry, are represented in this character. Surely the actor was inspired by Harvey Wenstein to build his character. He will be easy to hate, because he is a despicable human being. A fight between him and Lisa has started, caused by the ritual that Boro. Who will win? I have seen the actor in many movies and TV series, for example in Narcos he plays a CIA agent. He is an excellent actor and here he plays a character we will hate.
The rest of the actors that make up the cast of the series are well selected, but it has caught my attention the actress Siena Werber who plays Mary Gray, a character that will take importance in the middle of the series. Her character is the actress who participates in Lisa's short film and who will make a first alliance with Burke and then with Boro. I loved the look of the actress, she is not very well known, I think this is her most relevant work.
Who else is in the cast? Jeff Ward plays Roy Hardaway, a famous Hollywood actor who will have an affair with Lisa (and they star in the mind-blowing love scene). Manny Jacinto plays Code, Lisa's friend with connections everywhere. Young Daniel Doheny plays Jonathan Burke, Lou Burke's beloved son. Hannah Levien plays Christine Woods, Code's perky girlfriend.
No cabe duda de que la protagonista es el personaje que añade el reto de llevar toda la acción de la historia, afortunadamente sale victoriosa, la serie juega a su favor. ¿Quién es la actriz? Si viste la saga Maze Runner y la película Alita: Battle Angel, la reconocerás.

Una excelente interpretación de la actriz, con una fantástica y alucinante escena , que no puedo destripar, porque debes verla ¡una auténtica locura!

Gran interpretación de la actriz que junto a Rosa Salazar tendrán buena química al interpretar sus papeles.

Seguramente el actor se inspiró en Harvey Wenstein para construir su personaje. Será fácil de odiar, porque es un ser humano despreciable. Una lucha entre el y Lisa ha comenzado, causado por el ritual que Boro. ¿Quién ganará? He visto al actor en muchas películas y series de televisión, por ejemplo en Narcos hace de agente de la CIA. Su personaje es la actriz que participa en el corto de Lisa y que hará una primera alianza con Burke y luego con Boro. Me encantó el look de la actriz, ella no es muy conocida, creo que este es su trabajo más relevante.

Brand New Cherry Flavor is one of the strangest and wackiest mini-series you'll see this year. It's hard to recommend it to everyone, because I don't think most will make it past watching the first two episodes. I'm glad Netflix takes risks with this kind of product, to please people with different tastes. It is a production of great technical quality, the production design is fantastic, a believable and aesthetically fascinating nineties setting, accompanied by a fabulous soundtrack. The detail is that its plot will be enjoyed only if as a viewer you forget the logic and enter fully into the established dynamics. Attention, this is already the case in the book, not that they have invented it for the mini-series.
Let's see who are the daring ones who are going to watch the eight episodes hahaha. I just hope you like it, I was entertained, it met the expectations I had and I find it a strange, crazy and fascinating work.

Brand New Cherry Flavor es una de las mini series más extraña y descabellada que verás este año. Es difícil recomendarla a todo el mundo, porque no creo que la mayoría pase de ver los dos primeros episodios. Me alegro de que Netflix se arriesgue con este tipo de productos, para complacer a gente con gustos diferentes. Es una producción de gran calidad técnica, el diseño de producción es fantástico, una ambientación noventera creíble y estéticamente fascinante., acompañada de un soundtrack fabuloso. El detalle es que su trama se disfrutará sólo si como espectador te olvidas de la lógica y entras de lleno en la dinámica establecida. Atención, esto ya es así en el libro, no es que se lo hayan inventado para la mini serie.
A ver quiénes son los osados que van a ver los ocho episodios jajaja. Sólo espero que les guste, a mí me entretuvo, cumplió las expectativas que tenía y me parece una obra extraña, loca y fascinante.
