Two days ago was the 13th anniversary of the premiere of this wonderful series, which I consider, and many people also consider, the best of all time. I remember watching the first season a long time ago but it wasn't until recent years that I and my sister had the joy of watching this great show in its entirety. A decision I do not regret at all. Not a minute was wasted and as the memes say, Vince Gilligan seems to have really thought of everything. Breaking Bad premiered on January 20, 2008 and has remained today as an unattainable benchmark.
Hace 2 días se cumplió 13 años del estreno de esta maravillosa serie, la que considero y muchas personas también consideran, la mejor de todos los tiempos. Recuerdo haberme visto la primera temporada hace mucho tiempo pero no fue hasta los años recientes que junto a mí hermana tuve la dicha de verme esta grandiosa obra al completo. Una decisión de la cual no me arrepiento nada. Ningún minuto fue desperdiciado y como dicen los memes, Vince Gilligan pareciera que de verdad hubiera pensado en todo. Breaking Bad se estrena el 20 de Enero del 2008 y se quedó hoy en día como un referente inalcanzable.
Breaking Bad tells the story of Walter White, a kind and caring chemistry teacher who also works part-time at a car wash. Walter is diagnosed with cancer, leaving him with only a few months to live. His family has many financial problems, so he decides to make a last request, making money to ensure the welfare of those close to him, together with one of his former students linked to the world of drugs, Jesse Pickman, by selling methamphetamines using a mobile home as a walking laboratory. During the series we will see how Walter White goes from being an upright and principled person to becoming a ruthless person who only thinks of his own benefit.
Breaking Bad nos narra la historia de Walter White, un profesor de química amable y atento con su familia, el cual trabaja también a medio tiempo en un lavadero de autos. A Walter se le diagnosticará cáncer, quedándole así pocos unos pocos meses de vida. Su familia tiene muchos problemas económicos por lo que decidirá hacer una última voluntad, hacer dinero para asegurar el bienestar de sus allegados junto a uno de sus exalumnos ligado al mundo de las drogas, Jesse Pickman, vendiendo metanfetaminas usando como laboratorio andante una casa rodante. Durante la serie veremos cómo Walter White pasa de ser una persona recta y con principios a convertirse en alguien despiadado que solo piensa en su propio beneficio.
The character development is the best aspect of this entire work and this is noticeable throughout the cast of characters that make it up, but where it is most noticeable is in the main characters Walter and Jesse. The two begin as a team with a clear objective, they both think of benefiting from all the new business they have planned but as the plot progresses technically one will become the other's dog, a pet that he will use at will to achieve his ends; Walter will become a despot who thinks that the end justifies the means and the objective they had set for themselves? That no longer matters, his real interest has changed, he does what he does because he likes it. So we will have one character who will become a sociopath and another who will become extremely fragile and mentally weak who will be crying out for mercy.
El desarrollo de personajes es el mejor aspecto de toda esta obra y esto se nota en todo el elenco de personajes que la conforman, pero donde es más notorio es en los personajes principales Walter y Jesse. Los dos comienzan siendo un equipo con un claro objetivo, los dos piensan en beneficiarse de todo el nuevo negocio que tienen planeado pero conforme avance la trama técnicamente uno se convertirá en el perro del otro, una mascota que usará a voluntad para conseguir sus fines; Walter se volverá en un déspota que piensa que el fin justifica los medios ¿y el objetivo que se habían propuesto? Eso ya no importa, su verdadero interés ha cambiado, hace lo que hace porque le gusta. Así que tendremos un personaje que se volverá un sociópata y otro que se volverá sumamente frágil y mentalmente débil que estará clamando piedad.
In Breaking Bad a lot of importance is given to colour, too much importance, so much so that it seems that this is done in detail, taking care of every millimetre. Vince Gilligan has already said it in different interviews, colour is something fundamental in this series, although most of the time things like this go unnoticed if you don't know what you're watching. Each character during each scene is dressed in a colour that represents their mood, for example: Walter White during most of the story will be dressed in green, reflecting money and greed, Jesse during the first season is dressed in red, reflecting danger, death and murder, Skyler, Walter's wife, is dressed in blue, which means coldness and loyalty, and so on with the other characters. Colours are also mixed according to the situations that occur, as when Skyler finds hidden money she is dressed in blue but at that very moment she is wearing something green.
En Breaking Bad se le da mucha importancia al color, demasiada importancia, tanto que parece que esto está hecho a detalle, cuidando cada milímetro. Vince Gilligan ya lo ha dicho en diferentes entrevistas, el color es algo fundamental en esta serie, aunque la mayoría del tiempo cosas como estas pasan desapercibidas si no sabes qué es lo estás viendo. Cada personaje durante cada escena están vestidos de un color que representen su estado de ánimo, por ejemplo: Walter White durante casi toda la historia estará vestido de verde, reflejando dinero y avaricia, Jesse durante la primera temporada se la pasa vestido de rojo, reflejando peligro, muerte y asesinatos, Skyler, la esposa de Walter se la pasa vestida de azul, que significa frialdad y lealtad, y así con los demás personajes. También se mezclan colores según las situaciones que ocurran, como cuando Skyler encuentra dinero escondido va vestida de azul pero justo en ese momento lleva algo verde.
This show has left a great legacy, it is a before and after in the world of television. It has left us today things like a Guinness World Record for having an almost perfect score, a film that shows us what happens after the much acclaimed end of the series giving a real closure to our beloved co-star, we also find a prequel almost as good as Breaking Bad itself. I'm not afraid to say it, this is one of the best series in history, a series that slowly develops its characters step by step, creating a palpable evolution, with a duo of protagonists that work perfectly together, impeccable costumes, direction and production resources, all of this forms something that may never be surpassed until after our death.
Esta obra ha dejado un legado muy grande, es un antes y después en el mundo de la televisión. Nos ha dejado hoy en día cosas como un Récord Guiness por tener una puntuación casi perfecta, una película que nos muestra qué ocurre después del tan aclamado final de la serie dándole un verdadero cierre a nuestro querido coprotagonista, nos encontramos también con una precuela casi igual de buena que la misma Breaking Bad. No tengo ningún temor a decirlo, esta es una de las mejores series de la historia, una serie que va paso a paso con lentitud desarrollando sus personajes creando una evolución palpable, con una dupla de protagonistas que congenian a la perfección, recursos de vestuario, dirección y producción impecables y cuidados a milímetro, todo esto forma algo que quizás nunca va a ser superada hasta después de nuestra muerte.
