Paraulata, Beckyta, and I were teenagers when Candy Candy arrived on Radio Caracas Televisión, and from that moment on, we became part of its fan club. It aired during prime time for children, I think it was around four or five in the afternoon; I don't remember exactly. This channel competed with Venevisión for ratings. We all wanted to watch our favorite cartoon, and the remote control was passed around so we could try to watch it. We'd change channels during the commercials until Mom intervened and yelled:
"Please, you're going to break the remote!"
She would keep the TV remote, and whoever she chose would watch whatever cartoon got on. Later, she decided that whoever finished their chores first would get the remote and watch their favorite cartoon. I think this was around 1976 or 1979, when the first episode of this series premiered, something like that. I should point out that Venezuelans in my generation, and for many years before, used the term "comiquitas" for all cartoons and anime.
Candy Candy marked a turning point in the history of anime in Venezuela. They had already aired anime series like Speed Racer, Marco, Astro Boy, Kimba, and others. But when the freckled Candy Candy appeared on television, it was a total sensation, especially among young teenage girls. I was fascinated by this series, but, as always, there were always critics. They said that with her pretty face, Candy had a boyfriend here and another there.

But that's not the case; they were her friends, people who reached out to her and supported her. After reading many pages on psychology, specialists in this field, and human behavior, I've learned that her parents' abandonment and everything that happened to her left deep scars. Perhaps some people seek recognition, hugs, and brotherly love. But for Candy "La Pecosita," this was what helped her move forward.
Despite growing up in an orphanage, she decided to fill her emotional void, and she stood strong and continued on her path. Although some people may not accept it, this void is difficult to fill. It requires a lot of patience, psychologists, psychiatrists, conversations with friends, hugs. Above all, a lot of love. I recently heard a specialist say that human beings have until the age of seven to load information onto the chip in their brain.
According to this man, this is the information people use to shape their behavior and attitudes as adults. To change that mindset, you have to "put in the effort," as we Venezuelans say. However, I accept his opinion, but I don't share it, and from my point of view, I believe change is possible, especially with a lot of love. Importantly, some people change with therapy and become more inclined to help others.
It's Paraulata and Beckita's favorite anime series. Candy is cute, with her long, golden-honey hair that the wind would blow, sometimes styled in two little buns with bangs. She wore cute little hats and carried umbrellas to protect herself from the sun. People said she looked silly, but that wasn't true; she was a good girl, a little shy, with strong values despite the traumas of her childhood. She lived smiling and with good vibes, and believe it or not, this causes envy and toxicity. That's just how it is, and it happens in cartoons, anime, soap operas, series, on TNT, and in real life.
Where did she go, did she find love? That was a harsh criticism. Well, that's not important; women can have lovers too. That was in the last century, and it was criticized. They can have two or three at the same time; everyone lives their life as they see fit, if that makes them happy. Women have the same rights as men; I consider this opinion and criticism of Candy to be sexist. If I had to choose between Anthony, Terry, and Terry, I'd definitely keep all three, because it's very difficult to choose.

Candy Candy was very popular, and suddenly so many memories of my youth are flooding back. Each character has a trait that makes them special. It's an example of resilience and how people, despite suffering and so many tears, manage to overcome adversity through sheer effort. "If you look for me, you look for me" is the opening song of the series; it's very beautiful. Its lyrics are dedicated to friendship and unconditional support. I love this song. Beckyta studied hard and put in a lot of effort. It was the only way to get her to sit down and do something, because that was the only way she could enjoy her show. She'd go crazy if she couldn't watch Candy. Although that almost never happened because it was the two of us against the boys, since my older sister didn't watch cartoons. And my brother Manuel, who was on our side, whatever Dorys and I said, he followed us and indulged us. So many years have passed, and it's wonderful to remember those days again.
Despite the circumstances and everything that happened to our friend Candy White, she was able to persevere and achieve her dreams and goals. In short, she wasn't alone. Just as she encountered difficult people, she also met people who helped her and offered their friendship. And she could always count on the hugs of Clint, her pet and friend, Coati.

Paraulata, Beckyta y yo éramos adolescentes cuando llegó Candy Candy al canal de Radio Caracas Televisión, desde ese momento somos de su club de fans. En el horario estelar de los niños, creo que era a las cuatro o cinco de la tarde; no lo recuerdo muy bien. Este canal competía con el de Venevisión, por el rating. Todos deseábamos ver nuestra comiquita preferida, y el control iba de mano en mano, para tratar de disfrutar. En las cuñas se cambiaba, hasta que mamá intervenía y gritaba:
“Por favor, van a dañar el control”.
Se quedaba con el control de la televisión y el que ella decidiera era el que finalmente se veía. Después resolvió que el que terminara primero las tareas obtenía el control y se veía su comiquita preferida. Creo que esto fue entre los años 1976 o 1979, que se estrenó el primer capítulo de esta serie, algo así. Destaco que los venezolanos de mi época y muchos años más atrás, denominaban comiquitas a todos los dibujos animados y anime.
Candy Candy marcó un antes y un después en la historia de los anime en Venezuela. Antes ya habían transmitido series de anime como Meteoro, Marco, Astroboy, Kimba, entre otros. Pero cuando apareció en la televisión la “pecosita” Candy Candy, fue una locura total, sobre todo para las jóvenes adolescentes. A mí me fascinaba esta serie, pero las críticas, como siempre, no pueden faltar. Decían que con su carita linda Candy tenía un novio aquí y otro allá.
¡Gentecita esta, chismosa!
Pues esto no es así, eran sus amigos, personas que le tendieron la mano y la apoyaron. Después de que he leído muchas páginas sobre psicología, especialistas en este tema, la conducta y comportamiento del ser humano. El abandono de sus padres y todo lo que le sucedió le dejó huellas profundas. Quizás algunas personas buscan reconocimiento, abrazos y amor fraternal. Pero a Candy “La Pecosita”, esto le sirvió para seguir adelante.
A pesar de criarse en el orfelinato, decidió llenar su vacío emocional, y se levantó con fuerza y siguió su camino. Aunque algunos seres humanos no lo acepten, este vacío es algo difícil de llenar. Se requiere mucha paciencia, psicólogos, psiquiatras, conversaciones con amigos, abrazos. Sobre todo, mucho amor. Hace poco escuché a un especialista decir que hasta los siete años tienen los seres humanos para cargar información en el chip de su cerebro.
Según este señor, esta información es la que utilizan las personas para su comportamiento y actitudes cuando son adultos. Para modificar ese chip, hay que “echarle piernas”, como decimos los venezolanos. Sin embargo, acepto su opinión, pero no la comparto, y desde mi punto de vista, creo que sí se puede cambiar y sobre todo con mucho amor. Algo importante: hay personas que cambian con tratamientos y son más dadas a ayudar a otros.
Es la serie de anime preferida de Paraulata y de Beckita. Candy es linda, con su cabello largo color oro y miel que el viento movía, a veces con sus dos moñitos y “pollinita”. Unos lindos sombreritos y paraguas para protegerse del sol. Decían que tenía cara de boba, pero no es así; era una niña buena, un poco tímida, con valores a pesar de los traumas de su niñez. Vivía sonriente y con buenas vibras, y aunque no lo crean, esto causa envidias y toxicidad. Esto es así, y esto sucede en dibujos animados, animes, telenovelas, series, en TNT y en la vida real.
¿Dónde llegaba, encontraba un amor? Fue una fuerte crítica. Pues eso no tiene importancia, las mujeres también pueden tener enamorados. Eso era en el siglo pasado, que era criticado. Mas pueden tener dos y tres a la vez; cada quien hace su vida como le parezca, si así es feliz. La mujer tiene los mismos derechos en referencia al hombre; considero que esta apreciación y crítica hacia Candy es machista. Si yo tuviera que elegir entre Anthony, Terry y Terry. Seguro me quedo con los tres, porque es muy difícil escoger.

Candy Candy fue muy popular, y de repente vienen tantos recuerdos a mi memoria, de mi juventud. Cada personaje tiene una característica que lo hace especial. Es un ejemplo de resiliencia y de cómo las personas, a pesar de sufrir y de tantas lágrimas, logran salir con esfuerzo. “Si me buscas, tú a mí” es la canción de inicio de la serie; es muy linda. Su letra está dedicada a la amistad y al apoyo incondicional. Se las dejo para que recuerden estos bellos momentos.

Aunque no lo crean, las sociedades están llenas de personas envidiosas, hipócritas, manipuladoras, psicópatas y tóxicas. Como las quieran nombrar. Así como Eliza, Neil, señora Legan y otros. Sin embargo, también hay buenas personas como la señorita Pony y la hermana María. Hay personas a las que les sucede de todo, desde que nacen; en mi país dicen que nacen “estrelladas”. En el caso de Candy Candy, sobrevivió a la nieve, a las personas envidiosas, entre otros eventos. Y no dejo de creer en ella ni de sonreír. ¡Ahí se las dejo!

It's very typical when someone is moving at a snail's pace and you're getting desperate, although sometimes it even sounds affectionate.
