  1. CineTV Contest #45 - Con Air: when flying is dangerous [ENG/ESP]@neiraurdaneta1250d

Hello friends, welcome to my blog, when talking about movies involving airplanes, several come to mind that have impressed me for their characters, plot and actors, but one in particular comes to my mind, "Con Air", a film that was released in 1997, directed by Simon West, starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and John Malcovich, whose performances made this movie shine, not to mention the cast of actors that accompanied them: Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, Monica Potter, just to name a few. It is one of my favorites and I watch it every chance I get.

For many people flying is scary, I, on the other hand, love it, it is one of the things I like the most, even though I have not traveled for years, whenever I had the opportunity I did it and enjoyed it, in a flight you have the opportunity to meet people and I have a lot of anecdotes in each of the trips, one in particular reminds me of the tape, when the plane in mid-flight faces mechanical problems. The screams of the passengers and the fear on their faces I felt it in my own flesh and seeing it on the tape reminded me of those moments.

On a short trip from the capital to my hometown, the plane faced a storm, which caused the last 10 minutes to land to be dangerous, sitting next to me there was an older man terrified and he did not understand why I was so calm if the plane was shaking so much. I was really scared, but there was nothing I could do, just hope for the best and stay calm, so during that time I just talked to him and distracted him from what was going on around us. Fortunately, we landed safely and the man thanked me as he got off the flight for my help

One of the things I loved about the film is that at all times you are attentive because the pace, although fast-paced, has its pauses, it tells the story so that we understand that not everyone is bad, that bad deeds are paid for and there is always time to redeem oneself. One of the best scenes for me is to see Steve (G. Greene, a dangerous serial killer), playing tea with a little girl and singing. The action scenes are extraordinary, keeping you in constant suspense and glued to the seat. The performance of Cusack (Larkin), the agent who will chase the hijacked plane and who will join Cage (Poe), to prevent the escape of the convicts from the plane is an explosive duo.

Finally, this movie has a little bit of everything (action, drama and suspense), but the best are the performances of its actors who highlighted the scenes with their work. Flying is a magnificent experience for most, but for others it is a terrifying experience, but statistically you are more likely to have an accident in a car than in a plane. Although the film is already 27 years old, it is a film worth watching and even now its scenes are thrilling.

  2. CON AIR (1997) Review@jeremiahcustis2136d

Despite the fact that this film is almost a quarter of a century old, it's still a fun one. This is probably Nicolas Cage's most memorable role. He's played the badass hero many times, but Con Air is Mr. Cage at his best.

    celluloidshot0003.jpg

Con Air was made for $75 million and made $224 million in the box office. They don't tell us how much movies make on TV, VHS, or DVD, but studios expect to make as much as it did in the box office over a ten year period. So it probably made at least $500 million over the years.

Nicolas Cage plays Army Ranger Cameron Poe who accidentally kills a drunk man while protecting himself in a parking lot bar fight. The black beret was only worn by the Rangers until some knucklehead generals and the Army Chief of Staff stole it and gave it to ALL US Army soldiers. When they saw how hard the Rangers trained, Army brass had the foolish idea that all soldiers would train as hard as the Rangers if they had the beret too. I had the honor of serving with some Rangers and I can't tell you how mad they were about having their black beret stolen.

A bad lawyer convinces Poe to plead guilty which gets him seven years in prison.

When his flight home gets hijacked by the scariest cons around, Poe sticks around to protect his friend and a female officer.

    celluloidshot0017.jpg

Cyrus the Virus is played by John Malkovich who is the leader of the gang of jailbreakers. He is a criminal genius and mastermind of the escape plan. Cage is the star, but Malkovich gives the best performance.

    celluloidshot0023.jpg

John Cusack plays the good cop and is on Poe's side. There are many other great actors in this film, but I only took screenshots of the best looking scenes.

Con Air is one of my favorite movies of the '90s. It has a great soundtrack and mixes comedy with action perfectly. I would give it four out of five stars. Thanks for reading my review today. What was your favorite Con Air scene?

    Self defense?

I always find it a little curious that the writers have some one that has been highly trained in self defense accidentally killing an attacker in self defense. Whatever happened to disarmament? Guess we wouldn't have a movie then would we?

The cast includes John Malkovich, and Ving Rhames which give Nicolas Cage decent bad guys to respond against. Combine this with a decent pace, some interesting scenes, and some big explosions you do end with a reasonable action film. I never saw this at the cinema and I do not believe I missed out on anything.

As mentioned earlier we have Cameron Poe a highly trained and decorated Army Ranger. He has arrived back home and encounters a few locals that like the drink too much. They wait for him outside the pub, whereby a brawl ensues, one of them pulls a knife, is accidentally killed. Which results in Cameron being sent to prison for seven years.

Seven years later, Cameron is released and his transport is a prison plane that is also transporting a number of highly dangerous and resourceful prisoners. The prisoners manage to take over the plane and plan to leave the country. Can Cameron stop them, and get back to his wife?

It is a Hollywood movie so no rewards for guessing that the good guy wins.
